Hmm good question, well I don’t know if it’s right for me or any other to do that, because each person judge by their beliefs I’d say, but then again when you need something in order to survive, you have to change your natural entity to do so, for those people who suffer from obesity related diseases at certain level they have to perform a surgery to survive any future outcomes, or someone that is dying from a heart disease and have a heart transplant, that is changing the natural entity and life expectancy, 'cause is not his heart that is making him live longer it’s an outside agent. As for cloning, it wouldn't be bad to have a heart, or lung if you need it, I have a strange vision disease in one of my eyes that can only be fixed at the long run with a cornea transplant, if I could clone something that can get me that cornea, There wouldn’t be any church, nun or pope stopping me from doing it hahaha! ANDDDD..I think religion shouldn’t stand in science way, only each people morals should dictate what is right and wrong for themselves and their actions, not everyone is a religions kind and others shouldn’t be hold by anyone’s beliefs...nice song by the way, makes this thread more dynamic.

Putting aside any moral/religious aspects, in my opinion it wouldn't make sense to clone someone who was dying for the fact of having them with you (replacing the loved one with another loved one).

From a scientific viewpoint, the clone would have to grow up. A cloned person would not just suddenly appear at the same age as the one being cloned.

As far as trying to duplicate your loved one, yes, they will look like the person who was cloned as they grow up, but they will obviously not "be" the same person as the one you are trying to "replicate." Each being is a combination of life experiences; knowledge, interactions, memories, surroundings, etc. You would obviously not have shared the same history or experiences with this clone.

As the clone would be born an infant, this new person would develop it's on memories, not call up memories from the original. Not to mention there would be a vast age difference between the clone and the survivor of the loved one who died.

I don’t know if you put it in that case, i think the natural way of meeting someone is the right way, you imagine you engineering your perfect mate and teach them what you want them to know and how you want him/her to be... that would've be really boring and selfish..

Another eerie thought comes to mind. Every time you look at this clone, it would be a constant reminder of the one you lost. On a genetic level, yes they match, but on many different levels, they are NOT the same person.

If you could psychologically force yourself to believe it's the same person, and get some kind of peace from that somehow, that might work for some - but in the essence of their being/life experiences - the clone is not the "same" person.

Taking to a point that might be easier to imagine....

Say your pet doberman runs out into the street and gets creamed. You can go out and get another doberman. You can name the dog the same as the other one, teach it the same tricks, show the same affection (or lack of). Genetically, these dogs are very similar (yes, I know not exact), but dog #2 (even though you treat it and teach it the same, is not dog #1, no matter how hard to try to make it dog #1. (and yeah, I'm sure some people have done this - no harm no foul - to each his own and all that.) My point is - in essence, it's not the same being.

I have to agree with BloodyJack, once your loved one is gone I don’t think you can ever truly bring them back or recreate them as such. I personally wouldn’t find any comfort in having a replication of my loved one either.

Fascsination how a percentage of people speculate on ways to lessen a lose, even to the extreme of cloning. Those that practice such things hardly need any PR, the grieving or easy marks. How many people think that cloning is something new, it has been an observation that stem cell research ( the advancement towards limb replacement) takes a back seat as a "hot buzz topic" and cloning becomes attractive to obessed pet owners, who are usually irrationally expectant of the process.

So people want to make believe deaths seperation is not finite ( except in memory) They want something more sensational to shooth grief, rather then
Mourn properly. First the pet.. then the kid?

The simple answer is NO.

Now if you think of cloning like in science fiction stories,where you take blood sample of someone and hours later you have a full grown version of the person.They may look like the person cloned,they may even have the same mannerisms but they are not that person.As in some stories they have the memories of that person,up to the point the dna was taken and cloned.

From the science fact version of cloning,they are not a true clone of the person nor will they ever be that person.Even from the point of birth they would have different memories,different experiences and feelings,they will grow up to be an entire different person.So again NO,I wouldn't want to clone a lost loved one.

If I could clone somebody it would depend on how it would happen. Would they have to take someone's egg that could be a whole different person to do it? I believe that everyone deserves life. I may want someone back, but they're gone. Their clone could never be the same person. They wouldn't have the same memories, the same experiences. Perhaps just to see the face of someone you knew and loved and to look at the clone would make you think of the person. I personally would not do it, but there are reasons I could see others doing it.

I am on the side of DarkWolfman on this. This putting my religious aspects aside of this. We have yet to determine the dilemmas of this. Would there in fact be genetic complications to go with this. I know that the cloning of animals have showed problems with life span and genetic disorders, where mentally or physically.
I understand not willing to lose someone we love, yet this science is not proven further for us to go ahead with. And the memories of the original in my mind could not be duplicated making the clone a stranger. This in all rights remind me of the movie pet Cemetery, when the child comes back a total different individual than before they had perished.

As for is it right to clone? I honestly believe if there were knowledge we were not suppose to have - we WOULDN'T have it. If we are not suppose to heal ourselves or others than we would not have figured out how to make medicine. stem cell research may some day come and is fast approching. Seen the movie and it was in all parts a classic of the future.

But killing a clone would in fact in my belief murder of another living being. So would society infact tolerate this for the life taken may extend a life at hand.

this is not like organ transplants where the individual dies and we are blessed with their organs to help others this is like your own gentic assembly line. a part goes bad I shall replace it.

Even if you could bring back a loved one as a clone, that person will have taken their memories and life experience with them at death. A clone may develop new interests based on new experiences from the beginning of it's life. Life for the clone would be different, it's new life experiences would shape it's life and needs differently than that of the deceased. Would you really be gaining anything?

Cloning a person and using stem cells to help an ill person is two different things.Using stem cells to help someone paralyzed is something almost everyone would agree on.Stem cells aren't a full grown person created and designed to replace a kidney or liver.Cloning for all tense and purposes is making a replica of someone so you can harvest their organs for later use.True "cloning" is nowhere near like people come to believe.They see a sci-fi movie or read a book and think a clone is developed in a chamber,where it grows to adult size in a matter of days.Stem cells can be taken from the placenta of a new born or created in a lab..they aren't living,breathing individuals that have a face or hearts of a living person.Stem cell research is something I support,if they had it up and running where they saved people on a daily basis,my mother would still be alive and cured of diabetes and the second cancer bout she had wouldn't have killed her.

i am not sure how many people have heard about the problems the honey bees are having. but from what i know the honey bee is pretty much the key to our staying alive as a race on this planet. for if the honey bee dies the world would starve to death in about four years. so if cloning became illegal we as a race would stave. i am going to have to find some more info on the honey bee issue.

From what I've read, just because something (or someone) is an identical copy does not mean the personality is as well. Would really suck to have a copy of your lover made, then realize that just because it LOOKS like him or her, it's very definately not him or her due to a major difference in personality.

I don't see the point of cloning. Not for any particular reason mind you , just that if you had one good go around with someone or something you cared for , it just would not be the same.

The point in time which to entities met and spent their time together can never be duplicated.

Cloning another would mean a different time , with diferent memories in a different situation. Nothing would be as it was before.

Cloning would maybe benifit the meat producing industries in the way that a good producing animal could have his or her line continued as such , but then it could also be continued by good breeding practices.

Say cloning were to happen and YOU cloned yourself. Do you think that person would have the same soul , or lifeforce as you? You cannot recreat YOU as you are . On the upside , having your "body" cloned , would be useful in having transplants down the line should organs fail due to age.

Speaking of cloneing Kyle XY is a perfect example of a perfact clone. How ever it is way out of scientific reach to actually incubate. A clone for 16 years in a fluid close to that of the human womb. And then down load a whole computer even if it was by accedent.

There are too many implications here to deal with. First of all the 'Clone would not have the same traits as the real person,(passing or has passed) They will look the same but will not act the same. So i wouldn't clone anyone close to me dew to heart ache of them not being the same.

you could never clone life experience, personality, perspective, or soul... and to me that is the main issue.
it would be no more than selfish to recreate a physical body for our own emotional longings.

as far as being able to clone a lung or limb for someone with a medical condition... that's a whole different ballgame, an advancement which hopefully could be successful in its allowing people to live a fuller life.

i think though if cloning body parts would be fully successful it could eventually pose a "problem" per say if some people kept recloning parts of their bodies that were ailing in order to live on and on. 80-90 years or so is enough time for us to leave our mark... and death is coming for all of us in due time.

I agree with stem cell research. Certain cures obtained from such research may save some in my family who may die and don't have to. As for cloning, the more I think about it, it isn't for everyone but if someone wants to I see no issue. It's like I am pro choice, so I'd be pro choice with cloning, if you want to and take that chance, go ahead. Is it playing god? I wouldn't go that far.

To say that everything is out there presented is to be ignorant to no end. If i had the power to make idk... live longer and healthier life i woouldnt give it to the world, sounds like a good thing to give but who knows what bad things will bring in the long run as well. DJJarak~cloning individuals the soul can not be cloned along with it. The person that is cloned would bare its own traits and expeirences thus being totaly different from the person before.

As much as I miss loved ones that have passed I wouldnt want to have a clone of them, it would have the same memories of things w had shared and I dont think that the orginal person would want that either. I have heard a lot of peolpe saying that they would want to clone a family pet, and I wouldnt want to do that either, for the same reasoning. Just because they look just like the person or the the pet they are not the same and i think it would just lead to missing the person or animal even more with not being able to share the same memories .

If you believe the chicken came first then humans a.) have souls, b.) the soul is attatched at conception, and c.) would have to believe that a human that isn't concieved would not have a soul (unless God deamed to give it one like some of the immaculate conception theories)

If you believe that the egg came first then there is room for debate as to when, and if a soul actually exists, which species have one, and what aer the moral implications of murder of species.

People who believe humans have never been animals (either because of creationism, or because as soon as animal was invested with soul they became human), tend to be against abortion, stem cell research, and cloning. Either because of indoctrination or because of rational conclusion based on devine teachings.

People who have doubts about devine teachings, will never be satisfied unless the test every possible theory; most of which will cause ever deminishing damage and pain to teh world we live in.

I couldn't do it even if I really loved the person because to me they still wouldn't be that person. Morals has nothing to do with it. If I love that person then I'd want the real them.

I would clone someone that i knew that will pass away in a heartbeat.. I truly beilieve in cloning and i want my dog cloned. Now the real tricky part is if i cloned my mom or boyfriend due to the fact would my cloned boyfriend like me and he will be young when i am old.. My mom wouldnt be my mom she wuld be little when i am big. I would stay i would stick to pets and not humans.

Cloning has its good points yet many scientist would like to alter gentics to make them bigger or better, yet tampering would eventually hamper the strain into something yet controllable.

I wouldn't clone anyone or anything. - even lost loved ones. When they are gone, they are gone...no use dragging on the inevitable, ie death.

If someone was going to die and if you clone them they may not be the same person you knew before.. Plus doesnt that say we are not all unique and special if we can simply be replaced with a clone.
