So I’ve read some profiles in which few members believe in the; “Everything happens for a reason” statement as a real fact in universal occurrence of an event, what are your views pertaining to this assumption, do you have an experience where you can say “this happened to me for a reason” or do you believe everything it’s just pure coincidence to this date? Do you believe in destiny, or just random chance? You can share; life, dead, paths, person/people, circumstances, opinions, theories, beliefs, etc.. To support your experience/idea.
Oh nice subject.:) Sometimes the way things happen, the peeps we meet, the lessons we seem to learn from those meetings and experiences, many things occuring just in the nick of time,it sure does appear that way.But then,I really dont know.Destiny? Sometimes I think yes, sometimes,Im not so sure.
Why not both?!? Maybe I'm too open-minded, but honestly, I think some things happen for a reason and others are pure coincidence.
For example, one of the most recent friends I've met, has somehow inspired me to restart my writing endeavours. In a matter of a couple days, I've written many new things. I think our 'meeting' was meant to happen; I've found my Muse of sorts to induldge talents....
On the other hand, same person, just so happens to have her birthday 4 days before mine...doesn't that seem prudent for the definition of "coincidence"?
We are actually limited to a near Spartan uniformity as a world, which raises. The question how common is our daily life that we desire by degrees to call trivial, or mundane sycronisity some predestined prophet unfolding, then ignore that by such reasoning failure is imminet, and losing a few to trial and error advances the species some how.. "? Check out the Darwin Awards.
I dont believe in destiny or fate, but I do tend to think there is something to coincidence and synchronicity. As for whether or not things happen for a reason...maybe sometimes they do, and sometimes not so much.
Mostly though, I think people like that phrase because it reminds them that no matter how bad something might be, there is something potentially valueable to be learned from it. Usually we dont see it right away, but in hindsight, alot of times you can.
Nothing happens for a reason, we make it happen, we have free will, there for we choose to be in that situation, it was not supposed to happen to you, you just stumbled down the path that it did.
Without a few dings, we learn harder lessons later, when we do not geL so well. Rites of passage, and accepting, and serving consequences play a role in that. Those that say" it was meant to be." can be found to later say, " Why does this always happen to me." so many peple waiting for things to happen to them, wishing intuition, lacking any initiative.
My grandmother went to the store and randomly bought milk. Didn't need it. Was driving by this shabby apartment complex, knocked on these strangers door, and gave them the milk.
Coincidentally, they were broke and the baby was starving. My grandma believes God sent her there, maybe he did, or it was pure circumstance.
Hmm alright then and how about near life or death experiences? I am for one that can say statistically talking i should'nt be alive right now, few years back i had an accident where my car fliped backwarsds, it was in the freeway, and cars in Puerto Rico drive fast and crazy as hell, it was a crowded day in the expressway, and one of my tired popped and the car started going to the right and consecuently hitting in between a intersection, so i fliped and flew up to the left and car where getting ripped by the left side side as well as fire starting due to friction, statistically talking none of the car hitted mine at the few seconds about 5 cars passed in the sides of me about 55 - 60 and my car was taking two of the main lanes, if one of the car happened to hit mine, I surely be dead since my head was hiting the car roof and it was on fire, the minimum bump would sent me off fying without a face or head, so someone pulled me off quick and I only ended up bleeding from my nose and walked off only with 6 stitches. The possibilities of occurrance of me not dying that day was so low it make it seam like I wasnt meant to died that moment,"miracle"? coincidence? dont think so, i dont judge any of my beliefs due to that incident but i do believe when death is up for you it is and when its not, is not. and I can personally say it happened for a reason, im still here or that i didnt died that day... so now i drive lika old lady incas eone of the fucking tires conspire to kill me again LOL.
My friend crashed his motorbike and was seriously injured . He had major head and spinal injurys , the doctors said the chances of him coming out of the koma was small . A few days previously he,d heard about making a koma note , which was a basically a list of songs that really pissed him off . They were to be played to him if he ever fell into a koma . His mum found the note in his wallet and played him the songs repeatedly. He woke up . He made a koma note 3 days before the accident , Weird
~moonbubble~
Thats a remarkable story, it is so strange tho, why would he do such thing as a coma list in the first place? did you asked? As for mine, I messed up few times on the wording, if someone dont get it, i'll happily explain it again.
I believe in both destiny and fate. I have seen proof of these two very interesting subjects all my life. I can in my own world, say that "everything happens for a reason" is exactly what it states. If it were not ment to happen, then it will pass in time, but...If it did not happen then it was not supposed to happen, or at least not the way it was expected and or intended to.
A perceptive mind can relate the "everything happens" phrase rather nicely without thinking to hard on a counter subject. But like I said, I witness it on a regular basis.
I personally believe we come here to fulfill something. There is a plan or maybe I should say a goal. How we get there is of our own choosing. I think sometimes we just make the wrong choices and don't fulfill this plan. Many times what we think of as miracles may be nothing more than a nudge back onto the right path. I like Jung's concept of synchronicity. He had many conversations with Einstein before he formed all of his views so the perspectives are not only from a spiritual/philisophical perspective but science as well. As far as "free will," that is a religious concept so I personally don't take that into account pertaining to the topic.
Excerpted quotes: (from my own article)
Both were profoundly influenced by their conversations on acausal time (the concept that time exists as a dimension and it is only our conscious minds that perceive it moving). From those dinners Einstein went on to develop his famous theory of relativity and Jung went on to create the concept of Synchronicity (Meaningful coincidences).
Synchronicity has also been explained thusly:
The principle of synchronicity is based on the concept that everything in the universe has some kind of correspondence one to the other. There is a "classical idea of the sympathy of all things." There is a link, there is a bond, so to speak, and even so-called inanimate objects have a form of communication. In other words the whole universe is a living breathing entity and its various life forms, in all the kingdoms (animal, plant, mineral, human, etc.) are not as removed from each other as previously thought. In support of Hippocrates, Carl Jung said: "The universal principle is found even in the smallest particle, which therefore corresponds to the whole."
( Synchronicity, An Acausal Connecting Principle, by C G Jung, pg. 74.)
Is there a scientific theory to support synchronicity?
"... They are finding that the isolation and separation of objects from each other is more apparent than real; at deeper levels, everything —atoms, cells, molecules, plants, animals, people — participates in a sensitive, flowing web of information. Physicists have shown, for example, that if two photons are separated, no matter by how far, a change in one creates a simultaneous change in the other." 3

(From: A Wink From the Cosmos by Meg Lundstrom ,www.flowpower.com/synchro.htm, a version of this appeared in Intuition Magazine, May-June 1996 pg.)
Azuredark said " Physicists have showen , for example , that if two phrotons are separated , no matter by how far , a change in one creates a simultaeous change in the other "
This is the quantum theory of non- locality a possible explanation for why such things as ESP and Voodoo dolls might be belived to exist .I,ve never thought about it in relationship to synchronicity . Very interesting ! Thanks for throwing that up .
I,ve often thought that we are indeed all part of the same system , and that includes accross time , so our future and past are all one , but we can only experience time as a linear progression . I dream things in advance of them happening , and have often wonderd how this was possible . My own conclusion is that everythings already happend , and some times it,s possible to perceive things out side of our current time ( future events ) for example . But i still dont know which comes first the chicken or the egg . Do i perceive things because they have already happend or does my perceiving of them bring them into existance ? The later would mean that we some how bring our own existence into fruition on a very subconscious level . I like the former better , perhaps i,am just more comfortable with things being mapped out for me . I dont know just some of my musings . I do think if we notice these things it,s an indication that we,re on the right track .
I personally believe in the notion of Destiny and fate,
Some things are pre ordanied to happen while others we think happen for a reason is ppre noted off the thing we had just done.
Are our lives so mundane and pre organized for us that every day is the same logical norm. like a computer does the job day in and day out.
Now if this is to be than we reason who or what has predesigned our lifes structure? If not us making the choices in everyday life.
The non locality theory is from a book i read a while ago entitled Introducing Quantum Theory by J .P. Mc Evoy and Oscar Zarate .heres what i found relivant .
Interactions under Non-local Reality
1 The interaction does not diminish with distance.
2 It can act instantaneously ( faster than the speed of light .
3 It links up locations without crossing space.
" This means that in spite of local appearances of phenomena , our world is actually supported by an invisible reality which is unmediated and allows communication faster than light , even instantaneously ."
I need to actually use the net , then i could provide actual links . Sorry i,am learning not to be a technophobe , still buried in books.
Hmmmm, To think about something as predetermined fate logically you have to ask several questions. Like, "If my life were predetermined why am I here?" or "What would be the ultimate force that guides my life and why or how or what predetermines it?"
Is life sychronized? Or is it just a bunch of random events that occur with sometimes amazing timing? I would like to think that some cruel things that have happened to good people weren't meant to happen. Such as 9/11, because who knows how our lives would be right now if the terrorists had a change or heart? Then there's the age old belief- "The future is not set in stone..." Who actually believes that?
As for me; I have no idea if I believe it or not. The idea of it seems sort of depressing to me. However, I like the random and the seemingly chaotic. I revel in it... sometimes (Hmmm....maybe the answer is simply sometimes!)
It all seems very philosophical, and it is of course going to be something on which we all disagree.(as of course is pretty much everything on here)
I don't have much to say about the topic at hand, but I had to address something:
"My grandmother went to the store and randomly bought milk. Didn't need it. Was driving by this shabby apartment complex, knocked on these starngers door, and gave them the milk.
Coincendentally they were broke, and the baby was starving. My grandma believes God sent her there, maybe he did, or it was pure circumstance."
The operative phrase here is "shabby apartment complex." The fact that the people inside were starving, while remarkable, is a great deal more probable when considering that in all likelihood, most of the tenants of said complex are broke, living paycheck to paycheck, and struggling to find food anyway. I'm glad she was able to help someone though.
I do not believe in destiny so there for I dont believe that things that hapened in the past simply happened for today. In my opinion, for that to happen it would require the help of a deity who is pulling all of our strings. Due to my lack of a belief in a god, goddess, etc. I dont believe that is a possibility. However, I do believe that things in the past have led up to what is happening now even if you dont see it. Perhaps you being mean to someone yesterday made them mean to another person, which caused that person to drive recklessly which ended up putting a friend of yours in the hospital. In short I do believe in the "butterfly theory" and that nothing is currently happening today without some reason.
I believe that each person has a soul and each person have a different path too travel on lesson too learn and things too explore and debts too be paid and reward too be gained.... We all are in different level as in VR.... Some see things in different perspective and experience things in different way because its there life story and free too do as they wish .. we all have different fingerprints and their not the same and cantbe duplicated,.. but this much i know there some who base their life on scientology and other on spirituality.... and why is this so we all have a different journey too explore it doesnt make one person wrong or right as there is light and dark it just make the world be balanced.... we all have different paths to the same truth, Despite subtle variation in the route utimately we all arrive at the same destination.......
Also, if you want to get into semantics, everything DOES happen for a reason. For example: I got up for work this morning. The reason is because I have to go to work to keep my job. The reason I want to keep my job is because I need money, which I get from working. The reason I need money is because I have expenses. The reason I have expenses is (a lot of reasons). This can be traced back ad infinitum, to more or less detail. What annoys me is that people never seem to understand what the phrase actually entails.
Here's what I think, I think that a lot of things happen for a reason. I've always been one to think that. My grandfather died, and at the time, I couldn't picture what the reason could possibly be for his death, but now that I am older, I see now that his death helped me to go into music. He was a musician of astounding talent, and at the time I was hesitant to learn an instrument. Now, I can play an instrument, and I sing, and it's all in his name.
My sixth grade year was one piece of crap, but before that, I used to think that life was all happiness and joy. Now I realize that just because things are bad for me, it doesn't mean that I cannot smile. My experiences in my sixth grade year of school taught me that.
My Junior year of high school, I was struggling with what I wanted to do in life. Would I become an astronomer, an artist, or a writer? But then I met a wonderful person. She became my best friend, and seeing the way she drew helped me to realize what I wanted to do. If there is one thing I never let go, it's drawing, and I have her to thank for that. Because she inspired me to pick up a pencil, and open my horizon's, my art looks like THIS! I have her to thank for that.
I believe in destiny and fate, soul mates and the like. As of right now, I am in a relationship with someone I deem to be my soul mate. We may be separated by distance, but it doesn't mean that I do not love him.
But that does not mean that I don't think certain things happen purely by coincidence. Some people I meet, it's just a coincidence that I meet them. Ten years from now, I may meet someone that I had passed on a street, not looked at a second time or said hello, and become great friends with them. That, I believe, is coincidence.
But I also believe that everyone has a destiny, a purpose. What each person's purpose is, I have no idea, but I do believe that we each have one. So maybe it's a little of both? Maybe our lives are run by both coincidence and reason. Who knows?
I have no idea. I really believe I should have been dead from a lot of the stupid things I have done and always wondered why I am still here.. What grand purpose am I supposed to serve, cause right now I feel like I am taking up space..
Back in 98, when my aunt was alive, she never married, and always lived at home with her parents... Her mom died in 91 so she was around to watch her dad... Well to make a long story short, her dad died in 98... the day after the funeral she goes in to get gall stones removed and the doc fubared up... Exactly 2 weeks to the day she died... Was her purpose to just watch over her parents? This is rather odd IMO...
(I am a bit nervous cause it seems I am following the same route... all I know is since my dad left my mom in december she has no one, so i have to put my life on hold to stay at home to be with her as she is poor in health and companionship... when she dies, will death my knockin on my door???)
Also, ever hear death comes in 3's??? It really seems the case... Numerous examples of that... latest one.. my good friend Barb just died of cancer a few weeks ago... We are having remodeling done to the bathrooms here and the one guy's aunt died that same weekend and also the other contractors family member died that weekend... I just find it too weird...

There are no coincidents. I firmly believe that. Every event that happens in our lives, happen for a reason. The reason may not always be clear to us, at least not at the time, but we will eventually come to know the 'why' of it. There was no reason on this earth for my 19 year old son to be taken from me. At least not that i can think of, yet he was and i have struggled over the last 12 years with that question. Yet, i understand that these chain of events had to happen for me to grow. Hell of a wake up call.......but i also realize that in his 19 years.....he lived a lifetime and it was time for him to move on. I sometimes think some of it was to bring me back to my faith because if I didn't have that, he would be lost to me for eternity. I've come to meet someone recently that if not for predestination........there is absolutely no reason why the two of us should have ever crossed paths. And i still don't know why. Just know very strongly that this person is supposed to be on my path and that it is leading us somewhere. So, no, i do not believe in coincidence. Fate is what it is.
I love to thing that things happen for a reason and some things are destined/ pre determined
While sitting here thinking about it i glanced up at the wall where i have a poster that says
"Its the choices we make not the chances we take"
I've always been a firm beliver that everything happens as a direct consequence of a choice we have made, the choices we make put us into situations both good and bad, sometimes a choice we make will work out and good will come of it and you'll go"Ohh awesome must have been destined" or other times it will elad us to learn a harsh lesson of life that had to be learnt
I don't believe in coincidences. I do believe in destiny and fate. And yes, everything happens for a reason. Your guardian angel watched over you that fateful day for a reason! Perhaps you realised the lesson needed, and by changing your driving from that experience, you may have already saved numerous other Lifes!
To Save one is to save the world etire!
Saying that something is a stroke of fate or "meant to be" is just a way to make a bad situation seem to be good. One obstacle may lead to another but it all starts with you and what you decide to do. You control your destiny and what you want out of life no one else.
Not neccesarily, You didn't choose your parents, or the way they raised you. A big part of the person you are today comes from vast genes from both ancestors, what you know, the morals, the way to express and path you choose (if any of the above) are response from things you've been cultivating since the dawn of your life, you had to start to walk before you run, as you had to read to write, as you had to talk about guys to experience for yourself later on, everyone has a different story, and noone chooses to come or to whom is going to raise you, yeah many people changes what parent taught them, but that change is simply another response of things that happen every second at every point of the individuals life to walk, think, act that specific way along an specific path, you may be the most christian raised kid, you started hanging in school with a gothic kid at 8th grade, and keep hanging day by day and you start to like things he likes, having at bestfriend and start opening up for yourself, and later wake up graduating the gothic kid few years later, maybe you been raised as someone by parents, but something changed you along the way, yet you still have inner persona from both of your parents that nothing can'y change. Every comment, in every page, of this site, that you have read, and you find quite comfortable in your perception of believing in something changes your ways to look at things radically. So everyone in this site have a reason of why they think how they do, being carried for way to long by "experiences/things" they find comfortable for their being. In conclusion paths are just things in the past that makes you decide for things in the future. And that is not pure coincidence. A killer is not born is made, you can't have this very loving person and find him/her killing the other day, killers come with struggles since early years and many things seasoning up there in the head, you are not born killing, you are programmed by tough experiences, teachings, or conflicts to think as such.
Coincidence is the skeptics point of view. The "everything happens for a reason" is the believers point of view. Therefore, it would all simply fall into the "eye of the beholder" category.
Trepidation states:
Nothing happens for a reason, we make it happen, we have free will, there for we choose to be in that situation, it was not supposed to happen to you, you just stumbled down the path that it did.
I reply:
Yes, we do have free will but that doesn't preclude destiny or fate. In many things, we are faced with a choice. It could be destined (or fated) for you to be in a certain place or situation at a given time, but your free will still determines the outcome you choose.
As for the original question...
I don't have any personal stories to relate, just my personal opinions. It is my belief that every choice we make in our lives affects how our future takes place. I feel that throughout my life, I have been fated to participate in certain events and the choices I made determine who I've become. I might not have said it here before, but I live life with no regrets, regardless of any bad choices I might have made over the years. Life is a learning experience so with each experience, whether the choice made was good or bad, I learned something and grew as a person. If I went back and changed any of those choices then I wouldn't be who I am now. I wouldn't know the things I know now.
So, do I believe in fate or destiny? Yes, absolutely. I believe we are fated/destined to face certain situations throughout our lives. Is the end result of these situations fated/destined? I don't believe so, no.
Is that confusing enough?
Sometimes things happen for a reason and sometimes it is pure chance... I don't know if I would go as far as to say fate, but might be if you truly believe in that.
I'm a believer that everything in the universe and on earth is connected together emotionally and mentallly. I believe we are all say.... dealt certain cards in life, and those personal or unique experiences are in place perhaps to guide or help others that may need or seek of it down the road that we encounter. I believe we have moments we FEEL has a reason and there are times of coincidence too. You can find a reason in all things if one wishes to find them. So in that connection, we can say... psychically connect to others anywhere in the world, perhaps beyond, and to those close to us, to complete strangers....or are they? ;)
As for my personal experiences on this subject...there have been plenty of moments that things i have dreamt about was shared with others based on a connection to someone psychically speaking, i have dreamt of a friend's dead grandmother and mother and home he grew up in as a kid which i have never seen either of them before. He confirmed all that i told him. There have been other moments like this that have been confirmed mostly by those that are closest to me. That's all the evidence i need really. Whether or not there's a reason for it, if it was just a coincidence these things were seen, both are a possibility. I still believe it's all about connections. :)
Well if we look theosophy in the quest, then everything is formulated at the time of birth of Universe full of six elements and souls and spirit (sixth element is dark matter). evry reach and evry happening including chance is written in the formulation yet the conscious can change the formulation...
its all formulated just like Genetic codes...
I belive we have a set destiny, Some of the things that happen to you on the way to it happen by chance but then some things have to happen to fulfill what your destiny is meant to be
I neither believe in Destiny/Fate nor in purposeless existence. I believe that, like all of Nature, there are general Laws for the operation of all things, be they physical or spiritual. And when we obey or disobey Laws, we reap the consequences or rewards therefrom. If one leaps off a cliff, it is not Fate nor coincidence that results in their subsequent fall to earth; it is simply the result of actions taken that are affected by universal physical laws... in this case, the Law of Gravitation. So also, in life there are Laws of Natural Consequences by which all of our lives and our progress therein are ultimately governed. When we learn and make good choices, we will reap the benefits and the progress and the wisdom that corresponds with such choices. When we do not, the opposite will occur. The few exceptions to this only prove the greater rule.
A few quick examples: If one does not drink and drive, one will never be cited for a DUI. If one does not smoke, one greatly reduces the risk of lung cancer and so many other smoking-related diseases and conditions. If one acquired a college degree, one will generally fare far better economically speaking than another who drops out of high school. If one does not engage in promiscuous sex, one's risk of acquiring an STD is astronomically reduced.
If one makes good choices early in life, then one is far better positioned in life to take advantage of greater opportunities later in life: better education, better job, better mating opportunities, better home, better... etc. This is not a result of destiny or fate... but of having learned to make good choices and acquire the resulting wisdom, growth, and progress both material as well as emotional, physical, and spiritual therefrom.

I am simply agree with Lord Upir'
The matters and its result is based on Cause and Effect and there is no chance to negetivity. Coz its effect always will be negetive. Action does give results and chosing right action will not give you negetive result at all. Present is the result of past acts and future will be depend on right acts. there are three type of acts
one give result instantly
other gives result in long term
third are those acts which change your complete resolve the entire nature...
the kinship is based on third type of acts....
~Upir~ have certain points but contradictions can be found in his view...
Cause and effects are part of 'reasons' of things that is enough to kill the notion of 'no coincidence and no reason', he explained various things very well in the conceptualization of "Intelligent design", but if the universe and the rules of the universe are mend to create, and in consequence create us, second line creators/designers so far/known, isn't that already a "reason" yes if you throw yourself to a pit you are surely going to die by universal forces such as gravitational force, Duh! common logistics, but our conscience is what is in act to commit such decisions, our poisoned or sane conscience is what makes us do things, to say Intelligent designer>the universe that sets parameters and bring life>makes babies and we grow in knowledge> in developmental phase are corrupted or acquired with programmed traits> take decisions such as killing or creating< doesn't that make it a "reasons", if we create and recreate for various purposes/need as: cloths, watch, toilet paper, planes, cars, medicine, etc, doesn't that make it a "reason" for a designed variable? to quench a certain need in daily basis? taking that notion in macro-scale doesn't that make life itself a purpose over something, or plants, life forms, universal bodies, parameters, food, sex, and all programmed things in plant/animal/human/unnatural life itself a purpose of creation as complex organism/ natural mechanism?
Ok just to throw my hat in the ring, I do believe it can be both. Something can happen as a point of destiny. Something purely chance.
But no matter what it is, that it occurred to teach us something about ourselves. To make us stronger, more understanding, more loving, compassionate, doesn't matter as long as we understand it and do learn from it.
Although personally I believe in the butterfly effect, (because it is very easy to logically reason out the effects of an action, or mathematically calculate the effects AKA 'Numbers' style), the human mind is trained from very early on to recognize and seek out patterns. This results in us superimposing a pattern where there is none. One famous set of coincidences seems to link the assassinations of Kennedy and Lincoln, and the conspiracy theorists use them to support their theories.
Example: Lincoln’s assassin shot him in a theatre and attempted to hide in a warehouse; Kennedy’s assassin shot him from a warehouse and attempted to hide in a theatre.
Surely this coincidence results from two different individuals taking a series of snap decisions (probably involving the path of least resistance) to evade their pursuers, and not from some underlying pre-destiny( or for that matter a sinister CIA plan).
I honestly believe...it is for a reason. People come into our lives that we can learn from, whether we agree with them or not. Things happen in our lives, maybe a lesson to be learnt by it.
Yes, we do have a free will to chose what is right for ourselves, and how we conduct ourselves in certain situations.
