Did anyone watch the special television program last night about "The World in 2100"?

How much of the global catastrophes did you believe?

Such as "the summer of the dragonfly", famine, riots, the extinction of fuel such as gas and oil, climate change, and etc?

Do you believe the world will start going downhill starting this year up to 2050 A.D.?

Do you believe we will try to stop such a catastrophe?
Just go about our lives until the panic sets in?
Or do you think we will die off from ignorance?

Do you believe the program was generated and broadcasted just to create paranoia or fear?
To tell the truth and give the world a heads-up?

There are a big group of people that see what is going wrong with the world and that it is leading to trouble. Sadley there is a bigger group that doesnt aand i think they are they ones that will fail us. The show you are talking about i didnt get to see but i hope that they were showing us to warn us and give us knowldege about possible things that us as humans could cause. I hope one day we can find a way to keep our earth healthy but it might take a while.

Correction it was called "Earth 2100", it was a 2 hr. series that aired on ABC June 2,2009. It was informative for something of it's genre.

They said it was based on actual fact and evidence,but it was also the same as the equivalent to a scare tactic.

The reviews I read on it today just said it was propaganda fueled by the government and "extreme green" companies trying to get us plugged in and into buying,hybrids,windmills,and etc.

Even so, what would be SO wrong about that?

The event was entertaining. It made you think.

Global warming isn't a myth,but what they went into seemed iffy,or it could be the fact most of it was something you just couldn't wrap your head around, because your life is comfortable. And it seems far-fetched.

Truthfully though, who would really care about what happens before that far into the future? I buy what I want because I earned the money to do so.

I will have passed away long before that timeline so I do not see the relevance of the media advert for such documentation.

I believe man is trying to stop it but its far too late to do anything now. About 20 years ago they might have had a chance but its far too late to even think about doing anything now. I guess we just have to ride it out because there's not much else we can do to prevent it

I seen it, was very interesting on the global effects happening, yet the presumtion of it happening so fast and radical is just absord. i think alot of the tv programs latley are trying to get their hands on the end of the world scenerio.

But like i said fasinating logic was behind it, yet this kind of reminds me of the Movie"Day after tomorrow" when they predict the global tragedy and than it happpens within a week.

SS' In practical context, it is a matter of what we leave for those to come. Most people leave out break through in varieous fields of science, break through pending on current research.

I look at how much resistance, and flack Bio Engineers are getting for Modifying food, from mostly misinformed activist, and reactionary groups. Then I observe how little those same reactionaries, and environmentalist bring to the solution table.

Gloom, and Doom is a great drum for mass hysteria, because it can
always be defaulted in a debate to .. " well we can not ignore the damage,and exploitation that already exist." it becomes a matter of degrees.

Futurists like writer Phillip K. Dick speculate what the worlds future COULD be like.So the special is mostly nonsense...and to some paranoid people the show will scare them into doing stupid things like hording food,gas,etc.

Those that tap the Worst Case Senerio Genere blur the lines between fictional, and practical spectulation. Anything that assesses the current condition, is lost in sensationalism, ( don't get me wrong though, I like a good envirnmental extreme perspective every now and then) to many
seal themselves into freiting later dates. We seldom recover from any tragic event.. Before some hack self titled writer presents fiction as scientific.

As mentioned earlier, many dooms day hype senerios are twisted sci- fi story plots.

Much like the series that is also playing on the history channel of the world after humans. Speculation on the planet and how things will be. We will never know.

Much like the scare in 1999 on speculations of the outcome of life. we are now seeing it played out to the speculation of the prophecy or myth of 2012.

What really irks people that invest in " WCS" is when they " dig up" assets to have cash on hand. I read an article relating to people who took big losses with MMAs' in the 2000 scare, fear promted them to take advice of a guy claiming academic backing, and name dropping Economic Analist.. Suggested " vaguely" on A popular Radio Show.. That banks could, suffer, " and" Money Market Accounts could be lost.. All the " sources" verified through his published book, and "video". But no one counts the misses .. Right?

I have a friend who is one of those people who started harding food and ammo waiting for the world to crumble.

My thought is why, they would be the first place ran sacked by hundreds of people. ammo won't last that long.

yes most of us will be long since dead and in the ground but our children and so on will be still alive on this planet. is it not right for us to make sure that our future our name sakes and so on and so forth have the same rights as we have now.

looking back at the world in history as it was told in books we have scared the earth. many of the things that was alive then we have wiped from the earth and possibly our future.

most of us view that as like i have already read some one say. i made that money my self so i can spend it on what i want. yes that is true. but i hate to say this the future of our children and what not rest on OUR SHOULDERS no one else's not the government not the EPA the future of this planet is on our shoulders and the choices we make. so if the world does end in that way all those years from now it is our fault. no one else's as we where careless in thinking oh they can stop it.

All of these bottom-feeders (top notch conspiracists) thrive on such media and societal attention.If they can scare someone or a mass into believing such "theories",their product/s sale.

Also, the green police, win as well in such a situation. Since they seem to band with the bottom-feeders, and tend to make such global accusations look like fact. We tend to believe such theories more when leaders of such organizations believe it themselves and come up with their own theories to fuel it.

The government also gets a win/win in this aspect.We all should know why.........."money and fear=control".

I think or either we end up with a handfull of people living by the year 2100; or end up under one globalist power, that will control everything, it will take plenty of wars for both/any of those scenarios.

Honestly I'm more worried about the Aztec Calendar is more frightening. They prediction is for 2012. Their cosmic calendar has never been wrong.

The Calendar just end that year doesn't mean the world will end, 'Supposely', what scientist explain that is something cyclical, so if we had the Aztecs in present times; means that they would had to make a new calendar for the 5th world, now people take this end of 'forth to fifth' like the end of everything, but is a transition. What happenes in the transition? Who knows,is just there for anyone to fill because nobody knows.

Why worry about 2100? We got more problems NOW, then to be thinking about a "procrastination" about the "may be". Our economy is going down the toilet. Our environment is collapsing; from the ocean to the forest. Soon or later, there will be so many people, that mother earth will not have the capability to produce food. Our water supply are so polluted, that is insane to think about it. 2100...Can wait to see it!!

I did a long article way back on the 2012 scenario and I am not so worried about anything to do with the Mayan/Aztec calendar and more the timeperiod and not exactly date and what is going on in space that will affect this planet. One area I didn't research was what the Aztecs had to say about it. They are still living and have their own area in Mexico. I went to college with an Aztec.

As for the future I see more families going back to the extended family living where generations live together in the family homestead so to speak because they will need to combine resources to be able to get by. It is happening now where in some areas of the US a middle class family will never be able to buy a home. Therefore, I see them pooling together. It's already started in many areas where families are living together, grandparents, children and grandchildren in one dwelling.

If we do not stray from the path we are in right now, trash and virusis would be rampet in this world. For at some time in the future human life would be so promenant that we would almost cover every inch of this planet and many species in life would be extinct.

Disease has been around since the dawn of time, yet man exists. Natural disasters have been so as well, yet man exists.
But to take an indepth look at evolution of technology created by man over the past two and a hlaf centuries, we are forging far too fast forward without realizing the seriousness of the consequences for the future.
When a verse in the book of revelations stated "Man shall destroy Man" I really wonder why so many believe it to be related to war alone?

I like the idea of the man destroy man. True we have gone forward to fast that the repercutions of knowledge and understanding has not been given on the balance in what we have upset.

my first degree was in physics and i teach my classes that global warming is complete crap. mostly the result of junk science and then its supposed to be followed like religion.
the computer models used are seriously flawed (so much so that they cannot predict PAST weather patterns when all of the known variables are entered).
fuel...if we are allowed to get and use our fuel, i think we will get along just fine till we have the replacement technology in place.
weather...i fear we may be in for global cooling based on something called the Maunder Minimum (a minimum number of sunspots...yeah, i know...whoda thunk the sun might have anything to do with the earths temperature!).

diseases...most likely have plenty if the world warms...but still have em if it cools

food...would have more growing seasons if the earth warms...and serious famine if it cools.

the last small ice age ended in the mid 1800s, so it stands to reason that the earth would warm afterwards.
news flash folks...check the temps for the last couple of years...its not getting warmer anymore.

We are finding better ways to measure Ozone .
Some ozone is man-made by various kinds of air pollution, which then reacts in sunlight.
and this can add to or take away form global worming.

I was reading recently that the US actually made some significant changes recently... not as big % wise as the rest of the world, but when you consider they consume more than the rest of the world combined, it actually becomes a significant factor for conservation.

I think it said 87% reduction of currant usage of fossil fuel in 20 years. And 23% of energy is to come from renewable resoarces in 10 years. Some tyope of energy credit program to industry.

Some estimates say that there will be total reduction in 10 years because the US will run out of nonrenewable fuel arround 2012 and a few years after that they will have pumped the last of that out of the earth.

tarsand projects will theoretically last 50 years at the current rate of consumption but the US doubles it's consumption about every 8 years for a total of about only 15 years usage.

If the US actually reduces usage a little every year (and the mortality rate exceeds birth rate) the plan might last us long enough to not run out of energy, before we find new sources.

i dont think we need to worry about energy honestly.

we can build more nuke plants...non polluting and safe (regardless of what some would have you believe. my degree is in nuke physics and i used to be in the health physics department at a nuke plant here in the states).

we have more coal than anywhere and we have the tech to make sure it burns clean.

we have oil if we are allowed to get it. we have to tech to get it cleanly and safely, and our own researves are enough to run this country for over 100 years.

we do have wind..we have solar...etc etc, and we are doing research all the time to make new and more renewable sources.

that said, i think the tenents of global warming are crap. the world did warm for a period...but has been cooling each year since 2002 (i think...please check me there).

either or, the govt just admitting to surpressing a report saying that global warming just wasnt happening...in fact if anything its going to be gettng cooler for the next 50 years or more.

i think that if govt will just get its over reactive nose out of our lives, we have a pretty bright future. otherwise im reminded of the book 1984...
big brother will be watching us...ofcoarse its for our own good.

There is a lot of 2012 bullcrap as you call it and not all of it is scientific or deals with a calendar. Some of it is scientific dealing with space and is a fact and NASA has a few programs going on they don't hide but people are always complacent. All they want to do is earn a living, go on with their daily lives and they don't think of the future and most don't care as Soulshroude stated. Why should anyone care about something that might happen after they are dead but I think we should care about what happens to our children. Global warming was a simplified term used to reach the masses about polar ice caps melting and the subsequent gulf stream change.

The correct issue is global climate change;

things that alter the gulf stream is part of it, but also; carbon polution of specific areas that affect rainfall in other parts of the world; dams that alter the floodpatterns; the erosion profiles of our coasts; and the demolishing of rainforests that effect weather patterns.

I notice you did not address coastal flooding or drought conditions due to dams, and rainforest depletion.

Climate change involves floodplains turning into dessert and rainforests turning into plainsland et al. Cities are manmade nongeographical element of themselves that affect climate... so are Dams and dikes, and piers, and a plethora of other elements that we do not consider when we complain about abnormal for climate weather.

i believe that in the year 2100 that we will still be here but the world wil be lower on slow supplies but we will be able to survive and we deff will have probs in the future but were not gonna be dead i rly think we need to pull together and be a good solid naton and stop fighting each other or we will go extinct just like the dinosaurs but we will die by nuclear war cause thts how im predicting the war will end its on the news alot

20,000 years ago there were glaciers in the US. Things change, have changed and will change. Just as there have been many times before, there will be catastrophes, social upheaval, wars, disease, famine and drought. Humans can only do their best to overcome and survive.

The Bubonic plague (black plague/black death) it was around 1300's up^.

Plague is not the same as epidemic.

Plague has been around forever and did kill 1/3 of europe in one go arround that time... but it is not the only time plague ever killed people.

The plague has been killing people forever, and I bleieve still does in rare circumsances.

It's just that the conditions of filth that the plague thrives in is rarely encountered today.

I also believe that while our level of technology continues to rise exponentially, our capacity to wisely use that technology continues to plummet. As a result, it seems a tragic yet foregone conclusion that at some point in the not-too-far distant future, "critical mass" shall be reached and we shall indeed destroy ourselves and probably this planet in so doing. I heard about the Mayan calender that the end of the world is 2012, which is called pole shift.
I found a documentry on youtube called: December 21 2012 the END? (Part 1 of 6).

I didn't watch the said program but i have seen other programs that have probably had similiar theories on the world coming to an end, antichrist theories and many more theories. I think some of it is bullshit because there have been natural events that happen every day that are predicted to be catastrophic in the future and such.

I think that in time natural gases, solar energy etc will aid in helping humankind when gas, oil etc runs out.
I believe that things happen for a reason whether we knw that reason or not.

Things that have been prophesized like the return of the antichrist in 2060 is possible but it can also be impossible.

I believe that until a major catastrophe like katrina (only on a bigger scale) or somethin like that hits nobody is gonna do shit. Panic wont set in until its too late and many wont survive if somethin like katrina but bigger hits. Society overall is ignorant.

I think its a combination of both. Some parts are to give you heads up that anything is possible. Other parts are to cause paranoia and fear.

A few years ago a religious cult convinced a number of people that a spaceship was coming to take the believers away. Followers sold everything and tried to buy their way into the new paradise. Of course the chosen time came and went, the space ship was a no show, and the sheep ambled off searching for the next messiah.
Unknown numbers believed the world was about to fall apart on January 1 of 2000. Many hoarded food and water, moved into the woods leaving behind friends and jobs. Know what happened? They were unemployed and feeling foolish on January 2.
2012 is the next great ending predicted by the Mayans who didn't even predict their own ending.
2060 was predicted by Sir Isaac Newton after years of studying the Bible with heavy concentration on Revelation. He proved his date scientifically and with the aid of mathematics.
Basically almost every generation has predicted an end date for life as we know it.
Once it was done out of fear and stupidy. Now it is done for ratings and for profit.

I'm sure some of it may come true. Pandemics seem to be becomming an issue. As for catastrophies, they have been happening all along. Some of it is for shock value also. There are some weird people out there. They have strange belief systems.

I think that living our lives will be more important than thinking of the unexpected doomsday that awaits us. Why fear it? You can't hide from it. As long as the sun sets in the west and rises in the east I shall not worry. The year 2100 is a long way away. 2012 will end up being just like the year 2000. Hype and hysteria. You can't change nor fix the destiny and fate of a planet. It's cycle begins the day it is formed in the galaxy and when it ends.....Goodbye.

The world in 2100 will be just like today, no difference at all. Research in medicine will be to the max. The life expectancy of a human will be 100. So, I don't follow programs created by environmentalist with the purpose of making me believe that earth will end to exist. Never will happen.
