I've been listening to people's thoughts on the "end of the world" that is supposed to happen on December 21, 2012.

Many people say that it's because the Mayans "predicted" this theory.

But I've read more on it and they didn't predict anything, that is just when their calender happens to end.

So what are your thoughts on this topic?
Is they Mayan calender correct or not?
If not, how and when do you think the world will come to it's end?

Hal Lindsey, was once a big name in "calling" the Revelation date. What about someone predicting something optomistic?

My thoughts are that it is a big hoax and that it could be the government or religious persons trying to scare people into their religion.

The Mayan calender could be correct but it also could not be correct. Many different calenders predicted 2000 to be end of the world and it is now almost 2010.

The world can end at any time for any reason whether it be known or not.

Well I think it could just be that they got tired of counting and decided to stop the calendar at 12/12/12... or maybe it could be a prediction of the end of something... however I'm not certain it's the end of the world, especially since "their" world ended long ago. Should it truly be the end of the world is there anything we can do about it? Is panic and fear helpful in some way?

well I am from missouri and we are the Show-Me State.. LOL I think that people are just reading into it more than it is and everyone is freakin over it. I swear I have had family and friends ask me and I am like I can leave home today and get hit by a bus, yet, I am not gonna stay in the house till the day is over..

Movies and books etc, are all making alot of money off this, whole mayans calender predition. I mean why can't it just be where they left off.. I do not think any one knows when the world will die or destruct or any other thing till right before it happens just my opinion.

If I got it right they never said anywhere that the end of the world would come. It was just that their callender ended that date. If they would go further they would have to do lots and lots of maths. Their callender was far more complex then ours.

Its just another way of people making profit , books movies , t-shirts , and the wackos that are gonna take it seriously and kill a dozen or two , of people!

A lot of what has been predicted yes has come true but so has many other things that are predicting the end of the world.

do not know why poeple are panicing that much, the logic in this case would be that: the guy typing or writing or hitting with the stone hammer onthe stone tablet was simply tired of doing it and said: ok, over 2500 years in advance is enought, the rest they can figure it out themselve.

I do not beleive in the end of the world, at least not this way. So I think the guy just got tired of writing. And stopped.

the end of the world could mean any thing, and it doesn't exactly mean that the world is going to blow up and that the human race is going to vanish from the earth, it could mean a number of things, it could mean that the planet starts to change in some way and we all evolve in to something else, it could mean that little green men will come and finally show them selves, if you truly read the bible, and truly understand what it tells you, it does not mean that the world is going to vanish and that man kind is going to die off, it just means that something is going to change and it will go down in to history, but that is my thoughts on that, as with many religions in this world death is only the next part of life, it is the part that allows the next generation, our kids, our grand children, so on and so forth to live and allow them to have there chance to live and make there own mistakes as we have made ours, and what not, i guess i am about the only one who views it that way, but as the saying goes, when the abyss stares at you the only thing you can do is smile back at the abyss,

I seen this a lot on youtube about the planet X, or somewhat.. Most of those things are brainwashing containing too many holes! In my knowledge I don't think it's not going to happen.

Other then slight shifts in the earths polarity due to magnetic disturbances from the nearby black hole, as well as the earths axis going to an indistinct rythm due to planetary alignments, the equator shiftings its location and the oval earth becoming circular.. Nothing cataclysmic such as the movie: Numbers, with Nicholas Cage.

Weather will be off shift, as it has been for about 5 years now, but no one will die from an epic proportion catastrophe as rumoured. The 2012 awakening will be that of a metaphysical level alone. Whether or not December 12th or 21st are relevant is in the eye of the beholder. I am sure we will all find out the "truth" of it all January 1st 2013.

If something is going to happen or not, I dont know. There are a thousands of different ways the world could end every day (sun spots, comet, ect) the trick is knowing when to stop focusing on your death and enjoy the time you have left.

So after the date, all those who promoted the hype, and psuedologic will release books about how they "thwarted the pending events". Notice how all the end time forecasters are never questioned about missed predictiments? There are a few good authors that have books on why end time forecasters behave as they do, and why people are attracted to same.

Last research shows that the Mayan Calendar actually goes beyond 2012... I think that the "greatest minds" of the world postponded the "End Of The Wold" somewhere around 2460. Actually, if a giant asteroid arrives here early, "Armageddon" might happen even tomorrow.
I don't think the end of the world will be on a nicely established date... 21st of the 12th month in 2012... nicer would've been 21st December of 2112.

Another thing to consider into the equation is the Writers of these forcast, and how they arrange (like flowers) the various pitches. They even campaing against each other when another is discredited. Their degrees, and suspect credidials. make them no more then published Tabloid digest. Like writing a sci-fi book, and insisting it is real.. only they may (or may not be) buying their own pitch.. they use a shallow vaguery, that sheds as they get a larger demographic.. they start out scraping for grants grants. Often, one can find outright plagerization from late sci-anolog collections. A few years ago it was Egept, then it was Mars.. So with dates.. Relgious Folk.. and Pseodo science (pseodo acadimia) are both real grimm about.. how often does anyone go.. Gea I forecast that by 2075 science will prevail, and superstition will lose its grip over the populous, and all those who expoit (in any degree) those who fleece (or gain from fleecing). While I am concerned with 2009 11 09 2009, people are already giving up their future.. if you really want a date to mope about.. how about what youare failing fufill today. think what you pass on to those who live beyond 2020.. 2275.. think! But.. dont be so preoccupied.. I have my personal "End time short story.. now I am starting to think I can pass it off as a real progressive event.. one that takes place around 2020 all the flotsam will clatch on.

When I read the thread title I was going to predict the same thing as you SF. I believe it is just when the calendar renews, not when the world ends. I believe they said there were other calendars from the Mayans that also ended to be continued.

MAYAN CALENDAR'S NOT QUITE ACCURATE, THERE IS A SERIOUS SHIFT THOUGH, PLANETS CHANGING LIKE IT HAS FOR MILLIONS OF YEARS, AND NOT MUCH WE CAN DO ABOUT IT.

I think its all a load of crap, honestly. I mean, how many other times have we said that the world was going to end on a certain date? And we're still here. When the world does end, we're not going to know about it until its too late.

If you look closer into the majority of these predictions they say "it's the end of the world as we know it" which is actually very different from "it's the end of the world". Another phrase I've seen with the 2012 predictions is "It's the end of an age". 12/21/2012 is the end of the "age of Aquarius" and the beginning of a new age. For most of us we use a yearly calendar that end Dec 31st but that doesn't mean that Dec 31st will be the end of the world only the end of a year and a new one begins and the same is true for the Mayan calender theirs is just much longer than a year. Even if you look at revelations in the Christian bible when it speaks of the "end times" it's only the end of the world as we know it, but not the end of the world as in total destruction because it says after the "end" Christ will reign on earth for 1000 years. Just how would he do that if the world is completely destroyed? It also says Christ and the end time will come like a thief in the night. Meaning by the time people figure out it's here it will be too late. One of the big things to look for if you follow the Christian bible is peace in the middle-east since there is supposed to be if I remember correctly 7yrs of peace in the middle-east before the "end times" and it's not looking like that will happen anytime soon.

well concluded ~Wolfie~, from your approach it seems that society is still indeed stuck within the dark ages at their own free will, always following their leaders, believing in the individuals that make the most sense. Whether they be preachers, political leaders, or talk show hosts that deliver a rather subtle sermon on the mount in a bantery sort of way.

All of society regardless of who they are tend to cling to idol gossip from any kind of media exposure just because it is advertised good enough to be believable in the long run. This is what the incredible fear factor of manipulation is all about.

Anyone could come up with a good storyline for the sake of their own personal agenda aka conspiracy theory, include it with a rapture connotation and any part of the world that has a belief in the system with which that storyline produces, could become a radical and shout out to the world that part of the storyline is about to happen. Those few individuals that would believe any part of that storyline to be probable, would take to it like sheep to grass.

Unfortunately, more then half of society clings to this connotation and do fall prey to the manipulation of those story tellers. They believe in it so foolishly, that they actually have nightmares and dreams about it then repeat it over and over again. Much like the media does. It must be true if it is fashionably repeated over and over again to keep society remembering what the storyline is about.

But for what purpose? That should be the real questions presented.

I think some of it is society has become so cynical it's easier to believe in a disastrous ending versus a happy one or that OMG life could go on.

Sadly the resignation of such people becomes frantic, "Why invest in anything, it is all going to be gone in 2 years." becomes a default mind set. Motive was ponder by -SS - profites.. for "prophets". The same goes for Tabloids, though Tabloid Journalist seldomly subscribe to their own hog wash. thing is, if everyone is so "positive" that 2012 is the end of the world then why are they still making long term plans, trying to earn a buck, making movies that in 2 years time shouldn't be all that important since we're all supoosed to be facing "the end".

Humans do not and would not know about "The End". In the higher' sense the 'time lines' would and will change for the whole. Somebody would needing to be a powerful psychic to 'see' 'then end'.

I watched a doco' some years ago, about Nostradamus, how he 'saw' the end and how a Angel appeared to him.

I also heard that a part of Nostradamus Predictions was 'hidden' from the world, the section WAS about the year, 2000 and above, for the predictions.

I do honestly think that there IS a main "timeline" the main realm of a string, for words of explaining it. Yeah, I do think that there IS a end, but I do think that humans do and would not know.

I personally think that dragons may make a comeback. The ones in dragon form may leave their hiding places and fly freely again. I think that's why my husband and I have been reincarnated at this time. Who better to reunite human and dragon than the current King? (We dragons turned our backs on humans long ago.)

Not sure about the rest of you, but this 2012 thing may be going a bit too far with some folks. That fine line between fantasy and reality needs to be remembered.

I have heard many theories..some are that we will become more aware..whereas others are of course the typical Doomsday predictions..Personally, I would like to know if something is going to happen...but it wont change the fact that Im going to live life the way I want and fully experience all of the wonders it has to offer, learning all I can along the way..regardless of what society is trying to scare into me...I think everyone else should do the same!

Well let's take a look about what predictions have been left unproven so far.....
The bible has been preaching about the end of the world for a VERY long time, and i have yet to see it.
Then that little thing about the world ending in the year 2000? Apparently that didn't happen either.
And so they chose to boost the hoopla of a Mayan calendar about 2012.
Whatever happened to the Mayans anyway?? Can we consider their disappearance as a factor for why this calendar didn't continue?

Whatever it is, I don't think it will happen. I won't wake up one snowy day in December and the world will be in chaos... I *do* really want to see the movie "2012" though! Actualy i believe it has been debunked. Seems NASa has been on the debunking trail and has pointed out that though the Mayan calendar ended they apparently started another one immediately.

Nor, are there any runaway, planets or asteroids that are currently heading our way. Of course, they really could be and NASA is just lying :)

First, it is not the end of the world, nor does the mayan calender or their writings claim such. It will be a time when we will need to become as one and change our direction in life or suffer a terrible outcome... Like nuking ourselves.

The mayans were a very astrological culture and a lot of their theories about the sun and solar flares has all but been acceptedly provable.

Also, different calenders have different "end dates" because they have to be converted to the calender we use. The Gregorian I think.

And at least this isn't another government created scare like Y2K I remember that time ... lol. It was just selling propaganda.

Well the planet will have some crazy changes eventually . Because the poles will move and the ice will melt into the cold salt water, as it is doing now *slowly, Yet I do not foresee anything worl shattering happening for many years yet, anything can happen. when it does then it does.

The world as we know it ends everyday. The rate of change is imperceptible to most of us in the developed world. In the parts of our planet where subsistence farming, either on the land or on water, is practiced, the rate of change is felt at a frightening pace.

There is some speculation that human evolution was influenced by dramatic climate change. That is, we mutated in order to deal with it, whereas other species did not. Whether we will continue to adapt, as in perhaps mutating to breath carbon emissions with no harm to delicate human tissue is anyone's guess.

Planet earth may not go out with a bang. It is more likely that population shifts will occur first. People will migrate for food and livelihood. Some will choose to seize territory. War is likely.

Groups who believe in the apocalypse and armageddon may choose to help the process along. In that case, humans could engineer a world collapse.

Yeah any cataclysmic event does seem highly unprobable. And hell if something does happen then it wont matter very long because we would die.
