With different religions, come many problems. On one side, followers of a belief are accepted by one another, but may be shunned by people of another faith, or they themselves may shun others for their choice in beliefs. Personally, I am a LaVey following Satanist, and I am proud of it, but others ridicule me for my belief, which I find extremely ignorant, seeing how they know nothing of the religion.
My question is, what is your view on different religions other than your own? What is your personal religion? And how would you feel or do feel, when your choice of religion is being attacked.
***PLEASE BE OPEN MINDED WITH ONE ANOTHER AND PLEASE DO NOT MAKE THIS INTO SOME RELIGIOUS WAR!!!!!***
Me personally I am pagan and I think everyone has a right to their ovn belief! I dont want to be pressured to be any religion and i generally stay away from religions and people that say that their way is the one true way! IDK about your way my way is mine!
Thanks for contacting me about this thread. I am probably one of the most tolerant people about the faith of others.
I am, and I really am stretching the definition, a Wiccan, or more properly a Irish pagan. Our kind was faced with the choice - as history records, of being "xtianized" or else.
We now refer to those intolerant of the faith of others as Cowens.
Our teaching say clearly that :
1. Although all souls have issued from the Light, each has its own separate identity.
2. Each an individual with its own paths.
3. Therefore, let there be no condemnation from one soul to the other that they judge one another in their paths in their chosen identities.
4. For each soul must learn a lesson and experience new things.
5. What is right for one soul may not necessarily be right for another at the present time.
6. Therefore let all souls feel free to experience and live as is needed in their attainment to Divine Perfection.
7. Each individual must follow the path that is best for them lest experiences be lost and times be wasted by following after the attained experiences others have set before them.
We don't feel it's right for anyone to push their faith on beliefs on anyone, and that everyone is entitled to finding their own path.
Problem is, as we all know, the world we live in is pretty warped in the way people treat each other over this kind of thing.
It's funny - we have what we call the "Warning Rune" that warns of the kind of people who ridicule the faith of others. Some of the older members here or readers of the Leinster Ledger in my Journal may remember it.
Cowens are as Cowen's be
Their lives are filled with insanity.
Very little they say is true
And what they promise
they do not do.
Their ways are selfish, vulgar, crude,
their language disrespectful, rude.
They proclaim a faith they loudly preach
but do not live the things they teach.
Intolerance and a narrow mind
are things that keep the Cowen blind.
Until at last the truth they see
they'll live their lives in misery.
Kind of fits, doesn't it?
Great thread ..
I've been a Satanist all my life and I also like LaVey .
I am a modern Satanist with a touch of Luciferianism .... I am tolerate of those with different beliefs ..i can even have a meaningful debate as long as they refrain from personal attacks .....I tend to shut them down quickly when they do attack my beliefs .....
I was raised to be a Pentecostal Christian!, Also attended a Church of the Nazarene elementary school. At age 11 my Mother married a Jewish Doctor and she fully converted to Judiasm. We were keeping Kosher in my Mom's hosue and speaking prayers in Hebrew. On the weekends we attended church with our grandparents and our dad. Why is Mommy going to hell??? Jesus is not her personal savior anymore!!! Quite confusing for an eleven year old. My father became a wannabe Nazi and Jew bashed my mom on our visits with him. Now I follow the left hand path of Lavey. I am My own God!! Thanks for traveling along my confusing Christian- Jew - Christian- Satanist path. To Each His or Her Own Choice of Spirituality!

Therein lay the True "key" to the whole of the label-wars!
As a personal 'thing' I do not follow the direction or ideology of any single (here comes those labels) Religion, Faith, Belief or Practice.
It is my humble opinion (reached after decades of real study) that far too much pain (pain as a whole: I.e. Emotional, Physical and yes, even Spiritual among others) is associated with the labeling of ones personal choice(s) when it comes to the (very general use here) term of "Religious Practices".
In an ideal world / realm everyone would accept one anothers views, opinions and practices without prejudice, persecution or other forms of bias.
As this state doesn't exist on a large scale, there are a few of us (and the number is actually growing too) who find No Right or Wrong with any such following, practice, rite or worship in general. The term is accurately defined as "Neutral" and in our case specifically, it is a truth of "Being" (spirit, soul, energy). While this is not a perfect state for many, (because to accept anothers views, opinions, 'beliefs' in general) you have to "learn" about the other options out there.
Many can't or won't see past those blinders or limits they have upon themselves for reasons that if listed herein would make a book of its own. This "choice" to learn about different applications, theory, practices etc. has to be with an "open mind" as it was so accurately put. That challenge alone can break most efforts.
In a means to assist, not preach or teach; "If" you do "want" to "learn" more about a different view other than your own, keep in mind that there are very few of "ANY" label who are "true" to it that will attempt to convert you into something other than yourself now days.
The best thing to do with what you learn is to apply it to yourself in the best way you understand...and where there is no or little understanding to begin with; ask.
Very good topic.
My religion is personal but I believe to each his own. I wont look down on others for believing what they choose.
I am wiccan/Shaman
weird i know but was raised this way all my life
we all walk our own path no one can judge for none has that power my ways of thinking we all bleed red and all have our walks so be it no one should judge none without walking in the others shoes and know what there road has on it
so judge none and well said obonewits
I study and practice wicca. I have experienced first hand ridacule for my beliefs. Those that are so closed minded that they cant look outside the box of what was spoon fed to them, there whole life. If they dont understand, then it must be evil.
I keep a open mind, and I feel to each there own. You can always aquire knowledge on many views. I respect those that follow how they believe, instead of following long like sheep, with no purpose.
Before I speak my mind on this, I'll say I am the most hated for simply being Anti-Religion.
I do respect others beliefs, but a belief itself is not a religion.
A religion is a set belief that others follow with no original thought.
Furthermore the word "believe" is spelled "be lie ve" with the word "lie" directly in the center. It is not fact, it is not truth, it is an opinion!
Most people get so addicted to using this word "believe" or "belief" that they begin to confuse facts with their own thoughts, thinking that facts not known to them are the beliefs of others which they reject for (WHAT THEY THINK) but do not know!!!
To fix this, one should not leave one religion to follow another, for the only way to destroy something is by not giving it any power. How can you truly remove something from existence if you build a foundation upon the very thing you seek to abolish?
In every group, someone will always want to take charge and play leader. Having control over others. Yet the chain is only as strong as it's weakest link, so it is better to go your own way.
Be your own leader,
walk beside people, not in front of them,
avoid people that do not listen...
I used to be a minister and fell away. My beliefs didn't match the dogma. It is individual to each of you, wiccan, pagan, satanist, buddist, hindi and etc. We all have our own belief systems that work for us. We walk the path we chose.
My religious background is almost as colorful as Darkpassion's - LOL!
In my opinion, each person should have the freedom to believe and practice what they want, as long as they don't harm others.
I mean no offense to anyone...
I think most "religions" are of blind faith that there is something greater and a better place in life or afterlife that people want so badly but will never get, I guess it doesn't hurt to hope and wish, but to me it's a waste of time and energy. I think all the focus should be focused on myself and what I want to happen in my life, I am my own God, I preform my own miracles upon myself, no one else accept me and who I choose to be in my life.
If I give up on everything and don't try to do anything for myself I will be in hell, but as long as I stand strong and don't let things I can't see get in my way I will remain in the heaven that I have created for myself with my family. When I die, I'm dead. I'm not sleeping, I'm not dreaming, I'm not going anywhere... the only thing I'll be doing is rotting and feeding the worms.
With that said, and I'll go ahead and clear up that the word "Satan", in my vocabulary, is what is burning inside of me, "Satan" is me and is mine, it's my flesh and my bone, my mind and my soul... my will to stand strong.
Hail Satan !
I am aw Wiccan, but also study Buddiahism and about Shamans.
Religion should never be a arguement but a respect of what one views as their own personal choice.
Religion does not exclude original thought; wherever did you get that idea?
I am a Baha'i
We believe that all religions radiate from the same God.
That all Books, and the Manifestations/Prophets bring us greater understanding of the Universal Truth.
That all Humanity is equal.
God is one, Man is one, and all the religions agree.
To illustrate this we often think in terms of schools. A grade one teacher does not have less math comprehension than the grade 6 teacher, they simply teach teh foundations for the next grade.
Each Manifestation (of God) reveals the lesson to the entirety of the class, whether everyone in the class "gets" the spiritual lesson, or not is up to the receptivity of the individual.
The teachings will affect the individual, regardless of whether they prefered Mrs. Rubenstein to Mr Smith.
More or less... no analogy is perfect.
If we recognize that we all follow some way to enlightenment that should be enough.
But we all walk our own paths, mine is through shamanism, necromancy, sorcery, alchemy, vampirism, quantum physics.
In view, to publicize religious diversity is a bit like calling out a racial slur where none is needed. It is called provocation. What does it really matter what religion anyone is? They are all bowing down to the same "God" in retrospect, anywho.
To stereotype anyone into any set category is to basically start the ignorant debate. Zealots do it all the time. The media causes this type of frustration and so the watchers of the television get their social standards and ideas from the propaganda being spewed out by the media.
The only thing I have against any kind of religious views are those bible thumpers on the streets preaching like they have a reason to. Telling the passer-by's that if they do not believe in "God", then they are destined for hell. Who the hell are they to judge someone that they don't even know.
Hell yes I am ignorant of others views, specifically when they spew out their hypocricy in my general direction. Who gives a damn what religion or belief system I work with. Go away already... I am trying to listen to the music in my headphones.
On Tolerance.
There shall be no slavery of the mind." --- Victor Hugo
As the number of new religious movements continue to increase in membership, the necessity to defend the right of people to worship as they please, as long as they do not harm others, is also increasing. Religious bigotry stems mostly from ignorance, fear, and spiritual competition. None of these need be reasons for engaging in religious intolerance and bigotry. I'll address why this is so here. But first, I would like to write about "tolerance" itself. The word is defined here as follows:
TOL·ER·ANCE (n.)
1. The capacity for or the practice of recognizing and respecting the beliefs or practices of others.
2.a. Leeway for variation from a standard. b. The permissible deviation from a specified value of a structural dimension, often expressed as a percent.
As Robert Green Ingersoll pointed out, to "tolerate" someone is to make an "assumption of authority" and it is therefore invalid to say to another "I tolerate you" or "I tolerate your religion / beliefs." One does not have the authority to "tolerate" someone else's religious beliefs: that is the default condition, and requires no act or largesse on anyone's part. Therefore when I write about religious tolerance, I am speaking about the fact that one has no right to perform any wrongful act against a person or group based only upon that person's or group's religion, religious beliefs, or lack of religious beliefs. The default is if they cause no harm, leave them alone.
Note that harmful actions caused in the name of a church, religion, or religious belief are certainly open to criticism: it is not being intolerant or bigoted to castigate criminal, unethical, and immoral behavior. Indeed, it is a human being's duty to oppose criminal acts regardless of who commits them. Crimes committed in the name of religion are still crimes, and must therefore be denounced.
Molko v. Holy Spirit (46 Cal. 3d 1092; 762 P.2d 46; 1988 Cal. LEXIS 236; 252 Cal. Rptr. 122) to wit: "However, while religious belief is absolutely protected, religiously motivated conduct is not." (Sherbert v. Verner (1963) 374 U.S. 398, 402-403 [10 L.Ed.2d 965, 969-970, 83 S.Ct. 1790]; People v. Woody (1964) 61 Cal.2d 716, 718 [40 Cal.Rptr. 69, 394 P.2d 813].) "Such conduct remains subject to regulation for the protection of society." (Cantwell v. Connecticut, supra, 310 U.S. at p. 304 [84 L.Ed. at p. 1218].)
Crusaders torturing Jews.
IGNORANCE. Discriminating against someone for their harmless religious beliefs (or lack of religious beliefs) out of ignorance is probably the second greatest "reason" religious discrimination and bigotry occurs. People may believe they "know" something about a church, religion, or religious belief that they do not in fact know; what they believe they know may be inaccurate. It is often the case that the only sure way to know what a religion actually teaches is to watch how members actually behave: if they do no harm, and do not cost non-members their time, money, and other resources, then ignorance is not a valid excuse for intolerance and bigotry. Education is the cure for ignorance. That education must come from the church or religious individuals themselves, as well as from the community that church resides in. (However, it is very often the case that the best information about a church or religion comes from people who have once been members but are no longer members.) If the community is not being harmed by a church, one must TOLERATE THAT CHURCH. One has no moral or ethical reason to do otherwise.
FEAR. People trust what they know, and distrust that which they are not familiar with. If one encounters an unfamiliar church or religion, it is only fair, ethical, and moral to withhold judgment for or against that church or religion until it has demonstrated itself worthy of fear--- which the vast majority never do. When the "newness" of the church or religion wears off, the fear will diminish.
SPIRITUAL COMPETITION. The worse offenders against religious tolerance are members and leaders of competing religions. This is a shame, as those who are religious bigots have failed to understand the fact that to be accepted themselves, they must accept others. There are many reasons why people belong to the religions they do: the chief one being geography and familial tradition. If they are happy with their religion, and if they harm no one, there is no reason to object to their choice of spirituality.
If someone's religion "does not break your bones or pick your pocket," you are ethically and morally obligated to LEAVE THEM ALONE and thus tolerate them. It costs you nothing to do so, and it is wrong to do otherwise.

In all religions, beliefs, and practices there are fundimentalist, and fanatics, in time religions, etc, will police their own. Until then there will always be those who fan the flame of conflict.
worth noting is that there are people who are rather indifferent to what others belief, they are free to state their reasons for not subscribing to the beliefs of others, to often believers receive their reasons for not believing as assaults to their religion, they are offended by even genuine curiousity, when a person seeks to be educated about a persons belief, or religion etc.. it is so counter productive to insult, or otherwise berate the person inquiring. To many people want to avow their beliefs, and what they feel their beliefs extol upon them personally.. then they balk at educating the very same people who they engaged with their witnessing. There is a place for testimony, and that place is in company of others who share a belief. When one shares in a public venue, their will be questions, and there will be others present who have a more indepth knowledge of what a person claims to believe, there will be others who once subscribed to a belief, that challenge a persons interpretation of that belief as well, this is not a personal attack this is part of the education process, when a person spouts off about their title, or rank their are often challenges even from fellow believers, too often their are believers who simply want to impress others with their Faith, often they become pious in behaviour, even in matters out side religion (sports, politics, hobbies, professions) this is frown upon as social fax pau'.
I never grew up with any religions. Now for the past 15 years, I've been living in the south, where there is a church or a walgreens on every corner. People here are not tolerant, in my opinion, and everyone assumes you are a christian. There are some areas in the city that are predominantly Jewish, but aside from that, not much else.
I keep my views to myself when it comes to the outside world, but I ask questions because one of my bosses is JEwish, and one is Catholic. I'm just curious.
I've studied many different religions and beliefs, and I've just come to the conclusion, my own opinion mind you, that not everyone can be wrong. There are so many different religions, mostly based on geographics, who is someone of another religion to say that they are going to a "hell" because they're not something else? I find it silly.
I think you just need to believe in something, have something that you think is a higher power, no matter what it is. I just don't believe that there is one true religion.
**and I love OB when he gets on his 'splaining of stuff....
I'll admit there are some religions that i'm not very familiar with but really i'm not the type that likes to fall into one type of catagory either. I keep a wide variety of friendships from different beliefs and if they wish to talk about it or share it, they can but they don't preach it to me which i have more respect for those that do not. I have gotten a taste or definition of what some beliefs are and i do have some agreements with many that are being taught. Not just one.
Therefore, i just call mine Angel-ism (after my name lol) meaning that, whatever i believe is my own and what makes the most sense to me.
I noticed that whatever belief you have, and even if you don't have any, you're going to be judged anyway.
I don't follow any religion, even though I was raised as Roman Catholic, and read about other religions and practiced.
I don't judge others from their religion but I hate it when I am the one being judged.
I don't follow any particular path, I just guess anything is possible but for me nothing is affirmative, just all questionable, have many doubts and hopes too.
I was raised as an agnostic.
Our motto was: Don't know, don't care. Go to church if you want.
And we didn't want. But we celebrated Christmas and Easter; with less emphasis on the religious observation, and more emphasis on the pagan/commercial aspects.
So in that sense; we were completely ignorant of Christianity and it made me a little envious of people who had a sense of faith, even if it was a result of life-long indoctrination.
As I got older I dabbled in Satanism, mysticism, Buddhism, and Christianity from the perspective of an objective observer... but nothing really appealed to me. I'm still agnostic. My girlfriend likes to remind me that I don't believe in anything, which isn't exactly true, but it's close enough that I won't argue the point. I'm pretty tolerant of religions and beliefs because they all seem to provide something useful to the believer.
So, I say "To each his own".
Thoth posts
'.. As I got older I dabbled ..' I had a sense you were a Dabblerist.
mm-hmm, I figured you'd know that about me.
I also dabbled in Zoroastrianism but found it impenetrable.
I stick with the default practice of humankind.
Everyone practices (and some believe in) what few are content with.
Vita est iam
what's the default; Sun worship?
I can get behind that.
One obsticle to religious/spiritual harmony is those religions (mostly fundamentalist) that preach, and publish material that presents claimed research on other alternative/less established beliefs, practices etc.
I would also note that that the same factions are equally against people with different sexual idenity, politics, and often culture.
While all the general/moderate practicers, believers, etc present cover for their bigotry, and contempt.
There are Xtians who are lousy represenatives of Xtianity, and there are lousy reps of satinism, they both share one thing in common, they usually have no foundation for their superficial, self serving belief.
I like the poam about Cowens.. It brings back memories.
My view on different religions is that everyone has the right to choose in everything including religion. Everyone has the right to choose to have sex or not. In the end all religions lead to the same place.
1. Closeminded, judgmental people who think they know but really don't are such because it was the way they were raised and it was instilled by their parents. One or more experiences will change their mind.
2. i'm very openminded and know a lot about different religions. I get bored easily and look up different religions, cultures etc and have an open mind on things in general.
I'm Messianic Jew. I'm not Christian but i'm not Jewish either but a mixture of both. The basic Christian beliefs and celebrating Jewish holidays.
I am strongly against people attacking other religions for whatever the reason is whether it be ignorance, close mindedness or whatever. No religion should be attacked for any reason.
The term Open/closed minded is out of context. A more relavent phrase is narrow minded. Open Minded vs Close Minded misses the mark on faith issues.
When people start claiming to have some intimate
physical tap to divine sources, it is not being ignorant to dismiss their claim, sadly when people profess such
intimate physical embodiment they often declare people are being insulting to their beliefs, beliefs, and faith involve no confirmation, and no one is "closed minded"
for not being entuisastic, or convinced by the claimed confirmation experience testimony of others.
It is a ruse that socially inadapt people use, usually normal development passes that phase in Junior high. It is not their belief they are pitching, it is their professed 'experience" that they are impressing upon others. sadly they mistake general disbelief as rejection of them, or their belief. you can hardl;y "win" with such people.
It is not enough for a person to accept, or be indifferent to their belief, practice.. etc, they want that extra something from friends, or associates. It is often that such people have a new experience every month or so.
everyone has the right to believe in or who or what they want... no one should be forced to believe anything that they dont want to.
As well as a right to believe, but a right to not believe, and a right to present their reasons for not believing.
The same right others have of professing their beliefs in public.
Everyone has the right to believe what they want, and how they want to believe it. Its a personal choice and like choosing the clothes we wear, the food we eat or the place we live, we have the right to believe what we believe.
I don't knock anyone or judge anyone for their beliefs. The only time I will arc up and get angry is when someone tries to shove it down other people's throats and tell everyone that they are wrong in their belief.
I am pagan I guess in my beliefs as I believe in a universal mind or spirit rather than an individual god.
If anyone tries to tell me they are wrong I have one question for them, to prove to me they are right? With real proof not something created by mankind but real proof... and I may be swayed.
Dabbler, it's a right that exists mainly in Western societies. These same legal rights do not exist in other parts of the world, say, in the Middle East. For example; you are not free to practice Judaism in Saudi Arabia. In fact, if you have an Israeli passport, you won't be granted a visa & will therefore be denied entry. They still hunt witches there, too.
The concept of an individual's "freedom of religion" is purely due to the Western post-Enlightenment movement.
One of the original questions above was:
And how would you feel or do feel, when your choice of religion is being attacked?
I'd be willing to bet that for most religious people, there never was a choice. Religion relies on the indoctrination of the young, more so than the perpetual faith of the converted. I bet that the percentage of Believers who "chose" their faith is rather small, compared to those who were raised within their faith. I'd like to see some data on this but have been unable to find any.
As an agnostic, I don't really have a religion. But I continually choose to remain agnostic. This choice often comes under attack especially this time of year. How do I feel? Defensive, really.
as a satanist i know the feeling of being "attacked" during this time of year... I feel anyone that claims a religion should know about more than just theirs. I was raised to be a Holiness Christian, I was part of a Roman Catholic church 8 years ago, and a missionary baptist soon after... Satanism is the one where i felt most at home
I lost my religious belief yrs ago. However I do not grug against anyone for their belief as long as ppl do not try and force feed me then I will accept ppls belief. To do so is why the world is the way it is. Because ppl cannot let ppl have their own ideas and beliefs. Ppl cannot let others think and feel as they please and as such we have hatred and until everyone can sit back and not judge ppl for who and what they are we will always live in a world full of hate.
I like to ponder, one of my theories is that this universe is part of a particle of an atom making up for all we know a particle of dust on some guy's sweater. I do have a feeling that theres only one everything, and we are all a part of that so whats with all the fighting.
(I resisted saying "far out," right on, man. ohhh that was just as bad. oh well. Most everyone has a tree hugger moment from time to time, right?)
Sociologically, we live in a primitive world. Even those who consider themselves secular this or that reveal how their natal religious upbringing influences their thinking. It's sad, really, but they do take comfort in being with like-minded others. Fellowship is the one aspect of religion that is simultaneously attractive and repulsive to me.
Well Religions ae like Lifestyles there are so many and well myself I respect them all, I am Wiccan and was taught to respect everyones lifestyle and religion. We are all diffrent why would we want everyone to be the same that would be boring LOL
Some do not cre for my belief yet, that is ok I was one who helped get it passed as a religion in my state so I feel all beliefs should be respected and learned as well so that you do not look ignorant when attacking someone elses belief. many have no clue as to what the belief is all about yet, want to trash it. That is just sad and ignorance in my opinion.
All beliefs have a purpose for each person whom chooses that particulure faith. So you should what it is before you ever knock it.
Yet, most wars are based on Religious beliefs if we stop and actually look at them as a whole (wars).
myself I respect them all, I mean who am i to care what one practices, I freely practice what I want.
my views and belifes are simple
we all have a choice which is true to them, no one religion is better then the others. i may not agree with other religions but i have no right to tell others what they can and can not belive
When I was little my mom made me go to a Catholic church against my will. So of course I went and one day I said to the teacher that what if i dont believe in God? She just said it with a weird smile "Then your going to burn in hell.Unless you let us save you."
.... Yeah that just scared me. Even now it haunts me in my dreams.
But aside from that I Don't believe in any religion at all.
Everyone can believe in anything they want, I won't judge you for that. You have free will.
Religion is the opium of the masses. Humans use religions as a hope, that when time of death arrive, they go into a little heaven. well, surprise, you are now dust!!!
i am pagan and believe that each and everyone as a right to choose their religion.
I have studied all kinds, especially American Indian and Christianity. Mostly because that is what I was raised with around me. I branched off into Irish religions, as half of my family is also Irish.
From there, I got interested in most everything. What views I have are my own and I don't enjoy discussing it as it starts arguments. Any type of disagreement makes me sick to my stomach (even intellectual debates), so I simply don't do it.
I will be the first to admit I have a slight issue with Satanists. It has little to do with their religion, but some of it does. Their doctrine clashes if you read enough of it to actually notice, but that isn't the point. There was a large branch of them here and I accidentally found out about them. That was it. Nothing else.
They killed my pets (3 puppies, 2 kittens, about 12 dogs, and 2 full grown cats) and tried to kill me and the people living with me at the time (10 individuals, 3 underage). I never understood that. We didn't offend them, yet they attacked us and we barely escaped (mostly due to having 3 witches on the premises, 1 of which was an ex-Satanist herself from up North).
Ever since, I tend to frown when I see anything that reminds me of that. I am trying to get over it. I don't like the reaction, but it is instinctual. Still, when I do try to check into the literature on the subject...there are several different branches that clash with each other on doctrines and I don't understand how all of them can be the same religion. Even Christianity has different paths, but all of them seem to have a common basis. I see nothing common to ANY Satanic path, so why are they the same religion? Rename it and call it something else to keep from confusing people.
Do you worship yourself, or the Christian 'Lucifer'? Why are they both called the same thing?
They should have changed the name if they didn't want people to get confused and make comments about it...Yet I all of the time see Satanist getting pissed off when you assume they worship 'Lucifer' (or vise versa). Don't get pissed. Your very religion confuses outsiders; if you choose to worship it, expect confusion on the part of others.
It is non-understandable the way it stands now. It would take a massive rewrite to correct the issue (and with as much time has passed since the conception that won't ever happen). So, I doubt I will ever bother to try to understand any path of Satanist other than the Lucifer worshiping branch, which I do understand somewhat.
In my opinion, there will always be individuals who are cowards by themselves who seek to intimadate others for perceived wrongs, they operate under pretense of religious/spiritual, this includes, most established religions, and is not limited to Satanism, and often such people use sensational interpretations that appeal to others who are looking to excercise the same violant impulses, that they would not be able to
act on individually. Often there are drug dealers, or pushers that find such groups ideal for their operations.
It could well be that the group that appeared to be, and identified as Satanist was a drug ring (as is often the case with "Satan Worshipper" sects.
Just as often adherents of Islam are cited as Jyhadist.
It is encouraging that you are aware of the distinction between the two "denominations".
There is a distinction.

I've always been a tolerant person. I am an Episcopalian, and I spend a lot of time in school studying Theology (recently completing the diaconate seminary and one more year for my Theological Education degree). The more I study, the more I grow in grace, the more I realize Christianity is but one way. I don't put God in a box with human limits and boundaries. And as I said in another thread- I believe God speaks to all people through their cultures and languages. Being Agnostic is about believing there is something out there, you just don't know what it is. In many ways, I am Agnostic by that definition. But I pay homage to the unknowable through my faith. I put a lot of stock into the ancient stories - but I don't believe in Biblical innerancy. I put my focus on the moral of the story, and don't get caught up in literalism. I value the history of people and what they've learned through faith.
And to say something about 'blind faith'- what faith isn't??? "Faith is to believe what you do not yet see; the reward for this faith is to see what you believe." -Saint Augustine
There have been documentaries about people with near death experiences- to the tune of this: Each person sees their version of God during these times. Even people with no previous beliefs in these studies have seen something. What does that say about it all? Whatever we're most impressioned by will reveal itself.
My God is genderless and imageless to me. I cannot 'know' God visually. I refuse to put a human spin on it, like most humans do. We're so egotistical, even our monsters look like us.
I completely agree with Images in words when it comes to religion and god or gods we put them in our image and therefore our terms.
That in itself to me is the basis of intolerance... Religion or spirituality is suppose to be a personal journey of the spirit what path you use matters not as we all meet in the end at the same place, and start again.
If somebody does not know about the 'end', then how can they understand about the 'end'? It would be about a 'personal experience' with/who at the 'end' on the journey of life. As each one of us do take the Individual path, as a Individual. If each one of us does belive in their own 'god', then wouldn't there be like 7 billion gods? As some people do belive in one Supreme Almighty God, with "different stories" about him over the years... It would be somewhat confusseing to know about with/who at the 'end'. As I said abit before, it is about a "Individual personal experience" with the (god/higher power). It is just my view point - thoughts on the subject.
Again Images you summarize so well.
Too often people over invest in their religion, or spirituality.
They want an irrational sensational confirmation in return for their devotion, which often leads to pious behaviour. The thing about piety is that it leaves those with moderate core faith with the impression that they are missing out on something personally.
I always tend to avoid Believers who introduce themselves prioritizing their religion.. example..
"my name is .. and I am a _____, how about you?"
I rather get to know a person prior to being confronted by their beliefs, or politics.
Peoples preoccupation with spiritual matters often
has an underlying mental deficiancy, or social desperation. This is potentially dangerous, because there are those who target such people for exploitation, by catering to their irrational desires. It goes back to the history of Fakirs that traveled trade routes, and Performed "Miraculous Feats".
I am going to be absolutley blunt about this, and I am not worried about offending anyone, because I care.
If you live through life not questioning anything you know, you will know nothing. Ignorance is only bliss to those too ignorant to see the whole picture. Those too closed minded, self righteous, or self important to think different. You are no better than I, and I am not better than you. We are both forms of energy, moving into form, through form and out of form. When I die, my energy will spread out and give life to new things.
All in all, if you were offended by this, then good or bad. Maybe you will rethink your purpose in life. Is it to save yourself from Hell? Or would you rather put a foot in the happiness circle and help contribute to mankind as it is now and how it will be in the future?
Lovise, for what you wrote, is the reason I love to read your comment and journal. Yes, humans like to forget to live, by worrying too much about death. The pass, is gone; The future, is a maybe. So, live for the present and I do guarantee, that you will be more happy. Religions were created with the idea to control masses, that simple. Oh Oh, is only my humble opinion.
Vita est iam
Why obsess over an After Life, while this life is still active?
In my dying moments, I intend to have no "I-Soulda'" thoughts. "I shoulda' lightened up."
"I Shoulda' been less formal."
Every day, I walk around and hear people talk about their religion as if they are right, and their path is the chosen path. If you go down another path, you're wrong, and you will go straight to Hell. Choose their path and you will be enlightened. I'll just shut my ears when religion is being talked about, and I'll walk around with Fate by my side. Someday, someone will listen to what I have to say, and someday, someone will accept me for what I believe in and how I believe in it, of course, I'm not perfect and not in any way saying that I believe in the right way of life. No one is that perfect, not even God. But my string is curving down a path every second of the day and Fate is holding my hand to guide me to my next step in life and death.
I see two types of Spiritual/religious people, those content with faith, and those intent on impressing people with their devotion. Very little education is offered by the latter, they empisis all the experiences they have, and titles they assumed, nonbelievers are not intrested in such intricate matters.. all they want is a summary.. often such individuals rarely associate with fellow devotees, I hazard to suggest that it is because they take too much liberity with interpretation of basic doctrine. Splinter groups are filled with people wanting
"fireworks, and prickly skin".
-claps- Bravo! Once again, Dabbler!
I'm religious myself, though I follow Kemeticism and Norse Mythology, I believe in God, though I do not follow him, and maybe I'm daying empty words, but I agree with this.
When people cross the line, and expect others outside their faith to be as entusiastic as they are, and interprete that lack of enthusiasm as personal rejection.
It is one thing to educate others about their beliefs, but some aspects of a persons belief are best shared with fellow adherants to that faith, it becomes evident that those who exile, or are shunned by their faith tend to be overbaring with nonbelievers, often making socially uncomfortable atmosphers. Thou this is not limited to religious adherants, it also occures with Sports Fans, and Political individuals.
Why do we provide education to theories as if it is truth? Isn't that all religion is?
Very concise PSI, such behaviour often leads to piety.
After people become indifferent to ones belief, they up the ante with claims of physical manifestations, visions, and voices.
Disclaimer: Visions are relative to Native practice, I am not referring to such practices here.
Even if there was no religion, it would still be in chaos. People may be blind in all ways, whether it be race, creed, ethnicity, or locale. I agree with you. Religion causes further divide, but some people are able to see the bigger picture. It's sad that the world has come to the place it is today, and sad that people can't think this same way.
The one in the world is one who has sight, but has no vision. I don't think of you any differently, I just don't like being accused of causing the demise of the human race.
I am the only God that I answer to. I will not bow in prayer to a God that will not hear my prayers nor protect the meek and unprotected in this world. I alone am responsible for my actions towards my fellow man and will protect all in my world from my perceived injustice and morality.
Extactly! That's the answer, I look for today! Thank you. -smiles-
i try to be very open with all religions and keep any personal sentiments to myself.
it makes me very angry, i - being pagan (kemetic orthodox), still being forced to go to a baptist church, and having to listen to them slander other religions.
i'm sure as a satanist you will understand. in fact, i am particularly defensive of satanism because of all the misnomers and fallacies associated with it.
that is probably one thing i hate most. listen to people preach and preach about the evils of other religions when they have no idea what theyre talking about. if they did their research and backed up their claims with facts, then i would have no problem - but it is rarely ever like that.
it makes me very angry when someone attacks my religion. if someone can approach me with their beliefs and discuss things civilly, than i am okay. but when someone comes up to me yelling about how stupid i am and all of that, it makes me want to go crazy and hurt someone. :)
~Doru~ speaks like a true buddhist. If or if there is no God(s) or higher powers at work, is not the point. It is the point of the individual to seek out divination within the self before proceeding further. Once this awareness has been obtained, then they will more then likely figure out the truth..
"There is no spoon..." ~ The Matrix
Doru what you say is true that we are responsible for our own and our own actions. I will not say I do not pray, I do pray, yet, I do not go to confession as some religions do. I mean how does another human forgive you of *ALL* your sins they cannot, they are human as we are.
yet, many have a deep faith in whatever they do believe in and that is ok with me. Cause I also have my own faith yet do not poke it down anyones throat.
people will always be ignorant to a certain degree as for religion goes, because there are so many and everyone believes whatever they choose without taking the time to learn or try to understand them.
The one thing more ignorant then sermons that address other beliefs, and practices. Are the people who leave those chuirches, and adopt the sermons as instructional, simply to rebel against the church, such people fall right into the ranks of suckers that follow egotist who gather such suckers to boost their peer esteem., or to increase their privite agenda (often drug related).
satanists are misunderstood and automatically people think they are evil people i hate that.
I myself am wiccan and if people attack it i deffend it to the end and i wont lose.
Well, Its been some time since I've posted on VR, not to mention being active. So anyone who does remember me may remember me becoming a Shinto.
well, things have changed a lot since then, funny how ones real path comes to them when they least expect it.
Well, I'm Hindu, more so follower of Shiva, and from what my faith has given me in insight is that regardless of what faith you follow, regardless of who you call your God and or Goddess, they are just the face of a one supreme being, an essence that is neither male nor female, but is something that encompass all.
However ignorance on faith, those who just go off the face value without doing research are an issue. I've ran into the issue a few times, which on a role playing site for white wolf, I have a Hindu character who follows the beliefs and such and what not. Because I portray the character as it should be, how I would be if I could fully without the restrictions I have do to my life in the military, the individuals, mainly two, have deemed my character racists, offensive and utterly wrong.
when presented with the facts of their claims as idiocy, they retort back as "even if it is true, still shouldn't do it" which these individuals are neither Hindu or Indian, yet some how believe what I believe, what I study and how I portray it, are utterly offensive and wrong.
This is just an example of such ignorance, faith is vast, too much to just get a firm understanding of with just a skim over. All of us are learning something new, even if we feel he have an extensive understanding of our followings.
Those who claim they know everything are the most dangerous and ignorant individuals because to know everything is to know that you truly know nothing. Faith is not something completely static, as it is changing as our lives change. Though some aspects remain the same, core aspects stay written in stone, it does not mean the faith in a whole is just simple and has remained or will remain as it has.
I will admit I have come off as a know it all, I let pride get the better of me, however I have learned form this and do what I can to change that.
Well, not sure if this helped with the topic any, I hope it has, if not I'm willing to clarify a bit more.

The biggest problem with religion is that they try to push their belief onto you.
I couldnt care what ppl practice or preach. I dont have a religion and as long as they dont try and push me into their religion I let it ride as who am I to tell ppl what they are to believe in.
Not all religions attempt to push, a lot of main streams do, but all in all its how its presented by others is how it comes off as being pushy.
Granted in the Christ based religions or the main stream faiths there are passages that speak that those who do not follow need to be converted, which is where you get others who attempt to push such onto others.
Yet when it comes down to it, its the people. Some are willing to take that passage in the attempt to 'save' others while many are willing to see it, but do such recruiting on a more passive scale, letting those who feel the calling naturally, be found and come to them.

Were Fundimentalist cross the line is when they start crusading against other practices, and beliefs, often perpetuating negative assumtions (read slander) on other faiths, or practices.
On the other hand, alternative believers, and practicioners often assume all denominations are "heavy" on other practices and beliefs, simple not the case.
another thing is that some in alternative beliefs, and practices cannot accept that some in established faiths, and practices are simply indifferent to their personal beliefs, and practices.
They are observers of those of other faiths, and practices, commonly followers, and practioners are the only example they may encounter. This preceeds education by a credible (empisis credible) instructer, or clergy.
Their are fantatics in all beliefs, and faiths, sadly they are often at the forefront, being very vocal in public, or
constantly misrepresenting a larger collective.
People also forget occasionally that not all who don't subscribe to beliefs, or practices never subscribed. Some people explored, then unsubscribed for what ever personal reason. They are not ignorant, they have perhaps learned something that changed their devotion, or shifted ideals.
I am the divine or I strive to be that. I worship myself and my family and my dearest frinds for they are my gods and godess' they are the ones who answer my prayers who comfort my fears and show me the way forward in times of troubles
I will not bow down to anyones God, never and I will not be told how to behave by any religion either

Let me tell you something, I live in a country called Malta. Here the majority assumes you are Roman Catholic, in fact we're surrounded by religious symbols and religious ceremonies everywhere, and so religion is everywhere here.
Recently, two names of children were mentioned on the news paper along with their mother's, because it was written that she is a Satanist and that she is getting her sons in the wrong path, all this because there was the Wiccan Pentagram tattooed on her arm.
A woman got fired from work because she is vocalist of a metal band, so it is believed she is Satanist, therefore evil and blababla
When I was a teen and wore gothic/punk clothing and the Wiccan pentagram, I was bullied and called Satanist, evil, and other crap. I had people staring at me and the teachers and the rest of the staff blamed us for everything bad that happened, because we were judged as the ''bad kids''.
Lately on the news paper it was written that cremation is legal unless it is not done against the Christian belief.
So practically, even though our country is not harsh as much as Muslim ones, being non Catholic should be kept secret otherwise you'll experience trouble.
Oh yes I know what it means to be surrounded by ignorance.
i find the hindu religion very interesting im open minded toward all religions
deathnitegrl that is so sad, i feel for you..
Did you know that it was only in the 1960's that the UK stopped making witchcraft illegal? You could be put in prison for life before that Decade. I think it was 1961 but not sure exactly.
I am a sationist i have been for the most of twenty years
but for some reason people who "look down" upon what i am and i do not believe that there is anything wrong with being what i am, i know that this might come off strange to most but i believe that most who do this are in fear of seeing something bigger and i really do not wish to say a higher power or being,. now here is my question am i wrong for having a strong rooted connections to my religion?
too many wan see two dimensionally when it comes to their beliefs, or practices, for or against. However there are other potential reactions to ones discloser, To some not simply not being intrested in their belief, is offensive. One need not be empatically against their beliefs, or practice, just being indifferent sets the believer of.
Such people need to consider who they share their belief with, and why they opt to do so.
As deathnigh points out, their are active bigots that
persue individuals with beliefs, andpracticesthat are notcomplient with an assumed majority.a very real issue, but when I see people whine that "No body believes how commited I am to my beliefs." I am really ready to laugh at them, what are they expecting?
who cares what you believe. I hear "I don't care what people think of my belief."
Well what about when people don't care about your beliefs? That doesn't make them ignorant.
Now when a person confronts a person regarding their belief, the line is crossed.
Exactly, I am tolerant yet I don't see the same things by the believers around me.
I can't say in public that I don't believe in the Catholic religion and give reasons, because where I live it would seem that I am being disrespectful, but then the fact that I can't express my opinion and that I have to be surrounded by religion everywhere, that is not considered disrespectful towards me.
Our latest issue is the taking off, crosses out of classes.
LordBaalNox, no I didn't.
Here it is not illegal to practice other religions, but still our laws are Christian based.
Taking crosses out of classes in my view is a good thing, therefore the politics of religion is taken out of school. Schools are there for a learning experience so religion has nothing to do with the curriculum.
We had the same issue about 20 or so years ago when I was in Junior High to High School. The state came to the conclusion that religion had nothing to do with scholastics. Therefore, students may not be subject to the forced prayer during the hours that school is in session. This mandate should apply to all schools in all states regardless of the age specification.
There is a time for learning on the scholarly level and a time for religious practices.
A student once said "If I wanted to pray I would go to church... What ever happened to the pledge of allegience?"
If I'll state my opinion on this issue I'll get out off topic and ranty heh.
"Here it is not illegal to practice other religions, but still our laws are Christian based."
Wait a minute, isn't that a bit assed backward? I thought Christians were supposed to be the most tolerant? I might have been wrong...
Well, before you preach tolerance you need to be tolerant yourself.
Fundamentalist are the real element that chokes our masses threshold for tolerance, and co-existance.
Every faith, religion, spiritual collective, has a fundamental element, and it is all about how they interprete their Belief, Text, etc.. often has little to do with the whole belief etc.
Fantatics, and Zealots are fueled by Fundamentalist Idealism. Such individuals are apt to turn against others in their own ranks, as well as nonconverts. This is not limited to Established religions, their are Fundamentalist Wicca, and Fundamentalist in Alt. Religions, and Practices. Though I sincerly note that they are more active in addressing such elements.
well personally i think all you people are going to hell and...oh...sorry...wrong topic LOL
jokes aside, i think that all spiritual people are following the same basic spirits/beliefs but calling them different things.
as for tolerance, i once used to find myself christian bashing on a regular basis until a friend of mine that was a fundamentalist christian asked me why i did it.
i told her that i thought christians to be very intolerant.
she then said "so you are intolerant towards christians because you think they are intolerant?".
i thought about that for quite a bit, and like to think i have become far more tolerant overall than i once was.
~W~
The default is if they cause no harm, leave them alone.
i keep quite about my religion here as ive sometimes been attacked over it on this forum.once or twice.
I like to try and keep an open mind about everything. Religion is no different.
I like to learn about other religions or ask questions. I like to try an understand everything that I can so as not to offend anybody.
I don't have a religion, really. I don't follow anything.
I just watch.
I have my own ideas ,they really dont adhere to one belief /path or another ,but are more of a mixture of many I suppose. So I pretty much keep it to myself as to not to offend or force it on others. In turn,as far as I am concerned, they can believe what they want because when it comes to any kind of "God or personal path,it is just that...personal.
Everyone in my opinion has the right to practice whichever religion and follow any god that they choose. I am agnostic however I will not slam a Satanist or any other who follows the word of their faith because their opinions do not match mine- it's our birthright to choose which god we follow and what we call him, her or them.
When individuals of various faiths expect those who don't subscribe to their faith to cater to their practices, it becomes disturbing to the general public, as well as people of other faiths.
If a person expects everyone to be entuisastic about their chosen belief, or practice, they are being irrational.
There are somewhere around 7,000 recognized belief/religions compounded by sects.
Sadly indifference offends some people, when an individual states their personal reason for not subscribing to their belief.
Same issue with Politics, Sub Culture, or Sport fans.
if I was a foot ball(soccor)fan and I was to attend a sports bar that had a BaseBall game on, would it be rational to expect them to change the channel whiole I was their, then accuse them of not respecting my Sport, and tell everyone, "You don't know how foot ball is played, scored, or anything.. your ignorant.."
"I am a foot ball fan!"
My own spiritual path, I refuse to call it a religion, as the term implies the ideal of organizational practice these days, is of the left-hand path philosophy, and self deifying in nature.
I have drawn from both Satanic, and Setian sources for the most part, with other bits culled from others I have encountered along the way.
I certainly believe that it is the right of all people to choose what religion / spiritual path works for them. I have studied many different spiritual paths and religions over the years, some to the point of participation for observational reasons. NO human has the right to declare what is the one true way to anything, especially someones' choice of spiritual advancement.
That being said, a statement was made here that I feel was missed entirely, or perhaps ignored intentionally, that I feel I must address.
jennaKARRO
Pertaining to your remarks about the individuals that attacked you and your friends, and sadly killed your animals. I can almost certainly guarantee you those individuals were in no way true Satanists on any level. And would have been unable to quote you a single law that forms the basis of Satanism. Given that some of them were teenagers, it is more likely that they were simply using the most grandiose ploy they could find to use for scare tactics in your local area. A true Satanist would never harm an animal. Especially within the confines of the events you described.
I also believe you are misinformed as to the notion of Satanism in general. There is only one form of Satanism that is recognized formally, just as there is only one form of Setian philosophy that is formally recognized. While there may be malcontents that have chosen to use the moniker, this does not make them Satanists by definition or practice. I can call myself a Buddhist, but if I don't prescribe to the original doctrines as put forth by it's founders, then I am "NOT" a Buddhist. While I know Satanists that partake in blood rites, I know none that simply kill in the type of reckless abandon that you described. And I would challenge their claims if they did. Please do not cover those of us that follow a true set of spiritual beliefs and practices with a blanket intended for showboats and fearmongering teenagers. It does not serve you on an intellectual basis.
Ever Forward
LuciferChylde
Danka LuciferChylde. I fully agree and stand behind what you said. In now way were those people Satanist, as I am one, I know what happened is against our Laws. I would like to say, that its people like that who keep the fowl light on Satanism, and they disgust me
Everyone has the right to believe what they want (at least in America and a few of her allies), but absolutely no one has the right to "preach" to you without your consent, because no "one way" is right for everybody. Nothing can be proven beyond all doubt by the finite individual, so to claim you and you alone know the only way is to claim absolute knowledge, and to have absolute-or perfect- knowledge is to in fact be God who, according to popular consensus, knows everything. The faith of your choice is better demonstrated with actions, not words, don't you agree? If, for example, you're a Christian, you should probably just live out your faith and let it be an example to others, keeping your flapper clamped unless asked; nothing is more mundane or intolerable than listening to some pompous wank go on about why I should follow this or that path (which is really just another way of saying follow me and adhere to my little world so we can get along...in other words, Obey me!), when they themselves have no real clue as to what they're talking about. If your an atheist, don't spend so much time trying to disprove something that isn't there! I don't believe in Santa or the Easter bunny, but how ridiculous would it be of me to excert so much time and energy in trying to convince others that they didn't exist! In the final analysis, we are going to believe what we want to believe and thats all there is to it. True wisdom, in my opinion, comes when we are not only comfortable with our individual beliefs, but are also tolerant and respectful of the beliefs of others as well. Take your beliefs seriously, but not your brothers. Who cares if your a Buddhist and your neighbor is Ted Nugent-live, people!
A reoccuring issue that raises my concern is the individuals that confront others in their faith with claims of Divine Experiances, or Extrodinary encounters, that confirm how touched they are. such behaviour is ridicule to those who are content with faith.. (belief without evidence), it makes a content devotee feel left out, which predisposes them to perpatrate the same behavior.
Such individuals disturb others, then when noone receives their claim with entuisiasm then the cliches are invoked .. "Your just close minded." "Anything is Possible." "I know what I experienced/saw."
The bottom line is what relavence does a persons 'experience" serve to another believer, yet alone a non-believer?
Such desperate behaviour exceeds practical faith.
The concesus of this thread demonstrates that people
are aware that not just Non-believers are found to be Ignorant of Beliefs/Practices, but often those who claim to subscribe to Beliefs are ignorant, and they resort to perpetuating stereo typed propaganda, or adopt fictional portrals.
When people declare their beliefs, and they draw a persons curiousity, is it not reasonable to expect a summary?
Otherwise whats the goal in declaring your belief, or faith with others?
I like to know what my friends believe, or practice.
I like to know what appeals to them personally about a belief or practice.
i certainly don't want to hear about how repressed they are for their beliefs, and how nobody accepts them for their beliefs. How people are just so uneducated about their beliefs..
Bigotry toward an individual based on their beliefs is
not acceptable. Not bothering to study a belief is a persons perogative. Indifference to any belief, or practice insults some people, when people present their reasons for not subscribing to a belief, or practice, the same people get personally insulted.
When a person makes a claim of physical confirmation they present themselves for inquiry.
Acting as if there are no reasons to question the credibility of a testimony of an experience is insulting, is a failure to accept that their are so many examples of fraud/hoax, and misinterpted events.
Such convictions are not equal to basic faith, and beliefs.
I am a Hindu, but my family has been quite relaxed.. I've been exposed to many religions, views and beliefs from young, I would say... I've been taught to be tolerant.. and yes, that came from experience too.. Society played a huge part in that.. I love reading on other beliefs and faiths.. I would say that I am not too ignorant on another's beliefs, I may even shrug and smile if I find it interesting. I have nothing to say, I guess.. I don't have to accept what another believes in... If my belliefs were attacked, I wouldn't retaliate. Everyone has been 'attacked" in one way or the other. If it brings one joy to go around attacking another then , well, it just shows how immature that person is. Yeap..
I think everyone finds their own light, their own something to grasp onto that compliments who they are & how their life is. I don't view 1 religion different than the next. Yes, each has its own meaning, thoughts, practices & so on, but in a way we all end up practicing or worshiping something, someone or a higher power albeit in a different way. I don't consider myself to be under any 1 faith or religion even though i believe in God. I have yet to experience my faith attacked, but then again i don't really think it would phase me in the slightest. Most people i have come across have never been hateful, obnoxious or rude to me. Most just ask why i don't affiliate with a church. I find it rather wrong to bash someone else because their beliefs are different from another persons. Its sad that people are ignorant of other religions. We could learn a lot from each religion or at least know a little more than we did before so next time judgment wouldn't be passed, but i guess i try to look on brighter side of things at times....
"A true Satanist would never harm an animal."
I would like to address this statement.
Satanism in the past dealt with the most evil and heinous acts known to society, including murder. The New Age philosophy and or practice of LaVey Satanism should be entitled something else entirely since it acknowledge the individual not as an "evil" but as a "deification." Its law forbids the murder of any living creature to my understanding and should therefore NOT be deemed as true Satanism, since as stated above, TRUE Satanism was in the past, the most EVIL of practices by those of whom actually "worshipped" the devil.
I won't get into any discussion about religious freedom in America other than to say it is slightly better now than it was.
I would describe myself as an agnostic pantheist. A brief explanation would be that I believe that when I die I will become a different part of the universe than I am now [or perhaps, though highly unlikely, I will enter a parallel universe]. But in no event will I be the same as I am right now; or even the same as the moment I die. So, what I am saying is I will be something else; somewhere else.
And that does not mean it will be with a god of good, a god of evil, a god of mediocrity or any god at all. I don't really care about that because I have no control over it. I may have some spiritual form after death but I doubt it. But if I do, I will deal with it. I will probably end up being eternal molecular dust. But if I am not, I will, as I once heard in a Clin Eastwood movie "endeavor to persevere".
By now my opinion on the religion of others should be obvious. I don't care what your religion is. This makes me very tolerant of the religious views of others. I do not act negatively even when others try to press their religious beliefs on me. As long as you don't kill innocents or in any way hurt children or the child-like, or attempt to take away my freedom to act in whatever way I choose as ong as it harms no one else, I have no problem with you or your religion. But if your religion violates one of these three canons of mine; HEAVEN HELP YOU.
