Starting with the head down, I'll cover all the best places to "get a bite."


The external carotid artery-- This is the most common place of all to have a vampire bite. This is the artery in the side of your neck where you take your pulse, closest to the surface between the jaw, slightly under the earlobe and forward, and the collarbone.

The jugular vein-- This vein is a big no-no to bite. Extending on either side of the trachea (the throat), following down the neck from the chin to the collarbone, this vein is very dangerous to pierce. The jugular leads directly down into the heart and carries all the blood from the brain. The jugular vein is much larger than the carotid artery, and so carries much more blood. Very few people in the world have survived a severed jugular vein (we're talking single digits). So, unless your vampire has... um... fangs of steel and a very still victim, a jugular bite could be potentially deadly. The obverse side to that is it is very easy and quick to kill someone that way. Ripping out the throat, by either severing the jugular vein, puncturing the trachea (the windpipe), or both, causes a very quick death.

The median cubital vein-- This vein is the one in the elbow where, if you've ever had blood drawn, that is where they stick you. Hey, if a hospital can use it, so can a vampire.

The ulner artery-- This is the artery in the wrist. After the neck it seems to be the second favorite place for vampires to bite. Remember this though, the vein lies under some tendons (unlike the medial cubital which is right under the skin in the elbow), so that could pose a problem with biting.

The greater saphenous vein-- This vein runs along the inside of either thigh. The vein is large and deep; it would take a big bite to get down into it, but its location makes it a nice... foreplay move, if you have such an amorous vampire.

The femoral vein-- This vein is the one at the back of the knee. Like the median cubital in the elbow, this vein lies close to the skin and is an easy bite if you have a victim face down and willing to not kick or unable to kick.

But can't some of those if practiced wrong kill someone? You know, bleed out?

of course it could but one must tread with care

in most cases the "bites " or cutting is not so bad that their is a major danger to the donor

most of the wounds can be resealed with pressure and clotting
deeper ones might need butterfly stitches

one thing to remember is not to be ruled by your hunger
dont let it get you to the point that you loose controll and rip the donor wide open

also a person who is a bleeder shouldnt be taken as a donor anyway as theyre blod dont clot and they keep bleeding

use descretion

use commonsence

keep the wounds small in nature just big enough to get what you need


but this is only my opinion it dont make it a truith it dont make it a law :)

p.s. if you do bite the inner thigh vein your prey will spasm, bleed out and may die.

thank you for a most detailed post. The thigh points seem to be missed as well as the cartoid. Taking from the thigh can be erotic as well as filling the hunger.

actually the one behind the knee is fairly close to the surface lol

but note i may say bite but nature did not grace me with 6 inch long fangs so most if not all of these are actually hard if not impossible to bite to
what i practice is to use a steril needle or similar to pierce the skin and penetrait the vein

no kidding about the vein behind the knee being close i accidently cut the damn thing once took forever to stop bleeding.

Being impulsive, I tend to do as I feel at the moment of consumption I am not in a rational state when my desire drives me.

Also Twilight this was a good anatomy lesson. I appreciated it. My favorite spot I would have to say is the greater saphenous vein , it's closest to my other favorite spot, but you didnt list that :P

yeah that is why i recomend using caution and keeping the wounds shallow

be careful where you bite, u may bleed to death...

3. SAFETY
Use sense when indulging your nature. Do not flaunt what you are in public places. Feed in private and make certain your donors will be discrete about what happens between you. Donors who create rumors and gossip about us are more harm than they're worth. If you engage in blood-letting, put safety and caution above all other things. Blood-born diseases are a very real thing, and we cannot risk endangering ourselves or others through irresponsibility. Screen donors carefully, making certain they are in good health both mentally and physically.

Never overindulge or get careless. The safety of the entire community rests upon each member's caution

4. CONTROL
We cannot and should not deny the darkness within. Yet we should not allow it to control us. If our beast or shadow or darkside is given too much sway, it clouds our judgment, making us a danger even to those we love. Never indulge in pointless violence. Never bring willful harm to those who sustain you. Never feed only for the sake of feeding, and never give over to mindless bloodlust. We are not monsters: we are capable of rational thought and self-control.

Celebrate the darkness and let it empower you, but never let it enslave your will.

9. RESPONSIBILITY
This lifestyle is not for everyone. Take care in who you choose to bring into it. Those who are mentally or emotionally unstable have no place among us. They are dangerous and unreliable and may betray us in the future. Make certain that those you choose to bring in are mature enough for this burden. Teach them control and discretion, and make certain that they respect our ways. You will be responsible for their actions, and their behavior in the community will be reflected back to you.

11. DONORS
Without those who offer themselves body and soul to us, we would be nothing. We cannot be other than what we are, but it is the donors who sustain our nature. For this service, they should be respected. Never mistreat your donors, physically or emotionally. They are not to be manipulated or leeched off of for more than what they freely offer. Never take them for granted. Appreciate them for the companionship and acceptance which they offer us, which so many others would refuse.

This above all: appreciate the gift of their life. That communion is sacred. Never fail to treat it as such.

Here's something else to try if your donor consents, of course...

While you are one one side of the neck at the carotid artery, if you apply pressure on the other side (bilateral carotid pressure) this will cause the person to swoon.

Obviously, this must be done with caution and is NOT for beginners or someone who does not have a competent grasp on Human Anatomy 101! ! !

If you get carried away while suckling on one side while applying pressure on the other side and that person swoons - do NOT continue [a you-should-already-know olde rule of thumb] because you could be sucking on a corpse within a few minutes if you are intoxicated.

I---myself would choose to cut somewhere...along the arm with a sterilized knife of some sort. I'm not too keen on biting my veins, I despise veins and always will.

I'd much rather cut and drink than just bite and drink...

call me wimpy, but hey, I dont like veins. lol

So many places to bite and take nourishment from one's body. One might want to make sure that their partnervictim is not on blood thinners or is not an alchoholic. This will prevent clotting and might lead to bleeding out. Practice safe and drink up. Vegetarian, non-smokers taste the best.

lovely. although I'm sure that my lover/donor wouldn't like the deep ones.... I wouldn't want to hurt him badly either.

and I don't think that the person's diet plays much into the taste of their blood. I know it changes the taste of.... other things.... but I don't think it would make much difference in blood.

With that being said.... (this might even sound random/idiotic, so forgive me) but has anyone noticed a difference in the taste of different blood types?

the inner thigh is best used when the donor is already dead this and the one in the throat are the best to get plenty of juicy nectar quickly :D

Arteries have a much higher flowrate than veins so definitely be careful around arteries... blood squirts from them like a fountain....

I must say I prefer to bite in the inner leg or along the lower part of the shoulder blade area (don't know why about the second one but I do)

I found myself in Anatomy class a couple times learning about the various arteries and licking my lips that was a hard class to get through without thinking of blood, I still like my neck bitten and thigh my two favorite spots.
