I feel I need to open a pandora's box here and ask how others view reincarnation. Is it real? What of the documented proof of others who under hypnosis have talked of other lives and people? Do others believe that it is in some form another version of Vampirism? the thought that this soul lives forever? Please post your beliefs on this issue I am truly interested and fascinated and welcome all replies regarding this.

There is a Doctor who specialized in hypnosis and claims that:

"...people who have been hypnotised and then asked to recall information from the time before they were born have sometimes give extraordinary and verifiable information that would suggest that they have lived before. Using hypnotic techniques for past life recall and life regression, I and others have shown that some people are able to give verifiable information about past lives and quote historical facts which they have no way of knowing. Information about past lives has also been obtained from children who could not possibly know the detailed facts they relate."

I believe it's very much real.

from my knowledge of the human brain i would indeed concur that anything is possible. We have unlocked such a small percentage of the sercets of the universe and of our exisitence. I have no doubt that reincarnation is a possiblity.

i do believe in reincarnation. there are quite a few stories out there (documentable) where some child knows something about his or her former life. sometimes leading them to an address hundreds of miles away from their home, and knowing not only the name but also rather intimate details of the deceased.

my fave is the little boy that was a ww2 pilot that knew all the details about his aircraft, about his wingman, the carrier he was based on and his death. the mom tracked the pilots down at a reunion, and found the guys wingman and the wingman verified all of the details the boy had stated.

As with most 'unknown' quantities in life. It could be possible.

But, as mentioned we know little about the human brain.

but overall i would tend to side with the fact that from the day we are born, we are soaking up information and learning all the time.

so, think about this. The people in the experiments, most likely have 'watched' programs about history and such from a very young age and have retained this information.

So, they, are not talking about a previous life, but simply about a television program they watched at a young age...

therefore no reincarnation, simply re-remembering what they have seen or read!

you bring up a very valis point Damagedviolins, some can recall things retained within their minds yet when some give distinct details and describitions of a past time I feel they have lived before
I feel many are here over and over for several reals. and have help mold history in that same sense.

I have read many books on Recarnation.
The stories are very good reads.
I also read a book on Karma the author stated that
if we smoke or really drink in this lfe and we don't quit,
we take our bad habits in our next life with us,
for it is something we have to learn.
I have had really wonderful message with this medium,
in which I learnt 3 months later my Father I never knew was in the Spirit world.
Maybe we will just theorize recarnation.

But I do believe in it. They have too much evidence out there to prove these stories do exist. As techonlogy adavances so will more of the
truth.

I agree...some people...including children have recalled murders and events that are NOT public... not everything is posted on television... many people have found bodies based on things they have "seen in past lives" I think it's too obvious to say it's not possible...

and I'm sure that the professions took into account what is on television and what is not... because that's WAY to obvious to call out... They do have a degree in something... so I don't doubt their intellect by missing such an obvious things such as television.

and I also believe that the spirit of a living thing is simply energy... and energy cannot be created not destroyed... so I feel our bodies are simply recycled as energy passes from the dead to the next living. If we all died and just sat in heaven or hell if you believe in these things... it would be pretty crowded with thousands of years of dead people before the world ends

I agree with most of you here reincarnation is possible. we as a race a species only use about ten percent of our brains of which we only truly use six percent so with that said we truly can't say we understand the human race as so much is not understood. I for one believe that the human soul is immortal only the vessel said soul inhabits is mortal over time it ages and dies only leaving the soul behind to return to the realm of the living to continue its journey until what ever purpose that soul was meant to do is done.

I personally believe it to be true, I have had my own children say some really off the wall stuff that has made me believe it even more and have had strange recollections and nightmares as a child that have made me wonder. I have yet to truly "verify" anything but I have seen and experienced enough to make me believe in it and seek out more information.

It's the only religous aspect I've never questioned. It's easy for me to belive because al I have to do is look at my family the way we act and behave as realize how absolutly diffrent I am from them my mom always jokes that I act like someone from another time and I think it's because we carry traits from each life we live and I carry some very strong ones this time around.
As for the vampire thing I'm totally in the dark about it its a new concept I've never consitered before but it doesn't jive for me.

someone very close to me once had an abortion. many years later she had a son. when he was about 3 he told his mother that he was glad she was his mom. he thought for awhile she didnt want him because she was going to be his mommy before, but she sent him away.
so for along time he lived in the trees and watched her till it was time for him to finally be her son.

he is a smart little boy and has amazing word usage, but i think that is just because he is smart.

but the conversation....i actually heard him say this myself, and all the little hairs on the back of my neck stood straight out.
was very cool

That IS cool! My son was born with a huge obsession with anything cowboy and horses which I guess is fairly normal for little boys lol but when I paid for him to get riding lessons is when it got weird, he loved caring for the horse grooming, feeding, walking it around etc. but when it came time to ride he refused to get on the damn thing, after I paid a good chunk of non refundable money for it I was a bit frustrated and asked why he wanted the lessons but wouldn't get on the horse, he then got all teary eyed and said "I don't want to die again Mommy"???

my personal opinion is that it is real. I have no documented evidence to prove it. No scientific fact or statistics to show anyone it is real.

Just what I personally believe. Only with that is my opinion based. It is my firm belief that it is real. So many unexplained events that can't be accounted for.

Take for instance knowing someone but yet not knowing them.

You meet person A for the first time in your current life. You feel like you know them from somewhere. Then you ask them don't I know you, Person A usually states No, then perhaps says I had the same feeling about you.

How is that explained? How do you know them yet not know them?

I believe they are a person you have meet in another lifetime. This is how you have that connection. This is why I do believe it exists.

I fully believe in reincarnation, though I'm not sure what my belief is "specifically."

Has anyone else heard the theory that there are "old" souls and "new" souls? As in, some have been around longer, and lived many lives, whereas others are just beginning in the Cycle?

To start off. I have read no other's response on this because i don't want to become part of the debate.
Merely i wish to add to it.
Reincarnation is impossible to disbelieve in my opinion, because the cells that flow through every human being has run through the earth. There is no new cell since the conception of the universe, merely split replicas of the original, and it is destined that the same cells will flow through multiple humans, animals, plants, and all matter.

i worried alot about believing the wrong thing when i was a kid, but ive come to the point of believing that whatever the truth may be, there really is no reason to believe that there is a being that is so pathetic that it would harm you for not believing a certain thing.
i also suspect that there may be different ralities for different people.
ie...some people are reincarnated...some may not be.

some may go to heaven, hell, the summerland, the light, whatever, and some may just
die.

i think it may have alot to do with your own beliefs.

I strongly believe in reincarnation. A lot of people cant remember their past lives. And some can. In my opinion it having a life but dying and continuing living in different times till the person fulfills their life or/and purpose. And we are recreated. Its a long and non-ending process. It also shows the wisdom we have gain during our past lives (for those who can remember)

I believe that there is vampires that can live for many generation, and also that people can be reincarnated. I know of a few whom I have met over my lifetimes, and memories do not prove wrong. There are people I have met in the 1300's, 1500's, and on, up until today. Memories do not fail me, but some people's logic do

I believe in reincarnation, I believe that our souls are recycled because there is something that we must finish if not in this life time then the next, Cause you can't seem to get it right. Earth is hell. We are all born in hell, and have to work at making it to heaven. that is why our souls are recycled to get it right. some live for a very long time cause they have unfinished business in hell. I believe we have an ultmate choice though, but some who can't or refuse to learn have to go back to get it right. The worthy can stay in heaven or choose to come back to live again. I believe in angels also they are the mediators. The soul collectors. I believe in the tunnel that we travel down when we die, of family we will see on the otherside. I am not so sure of God but my mind is open to the possibilty. I don't understand how if a person believes in Satan can't believe or refuses to believe in Good if not God. Because all things have a Ying and a Yang. Everything has an opposite.

This made me laugh...

actually.... when they burn the body... it's just one at a time, so it's impossible to NOT get your loved ones ashes... and they are very carefully monitored and labeled.... plus... at funeral homes many people don't die at the exact same time... so timing alone will guaretee that the body cremated is your loved ones.... My brother is a mortician and I don't see how they can possibly get your loved ones ashes mixed up with another... it's not like highschool students are doing this job... you need training and a degree.

I've heard of rituals used for reincarnation, but it was more designed to request someone be reincarnated in a specific way...also, when I say "I've heard of," in this case, I mean I probably read it in a book and it was probably a work of fiction, so take this particular post with a grain of salt.

I believe its true and especially in the whole reincarnation stuff. I think animals have it a lot as well or else they wouldn't be able to do anything they already do. Its like a clay model. you use the same stuff but keep making a new looking creature. In other words you use the same soul but put it in a new body over and over again.

i believe in reincarnation in my opinion a soul lives on forever the vessel may die but the entity inside it lives on moving on to a new vessel. as for hypnosis i believe in that too but i think it varies within people. all of us have some sort of mental block and if once break through well good for that person.

in the germanic and norse beliefs, it is thought that a soul stays in a family line. this is one reason that certain names stayed in use in a family. so that if uncle bob died, he could return in a few years when baby bob was born. baby bob would also share in uncle bobs luck...a very real thing in the germanic path.

Thanks for sharing that video link LW. I know this is gonna sound sappy to some people but it made me tear up a bit over it. I think if more stories like these were told more openly, people who are doubtful or skeptical of it, could really use it to show others that yes apparently reincarnation is a fact of life. So again, thank you for that. :)

The most likely reason if we don't remember is that we or something is blocking the memories.

Wouldn't the spell for reincarnation be kinda dangerous?Or backfire?

Here is something you all might like to read...

http://www.near-death.com/evidence.html

One thing that comes to mind about reincarnation, and that I find pretty compelling is language and the fact that some have been found to know and understand a language they have never known or even heard before.
Another thing to think about is the karmic debt and how it pretains to ,and determines reincarnation.

Crapp,posted before I was finished..

But as far as hypnotic regression and things like that as evidence,to me it doesnt hold much to support it.To me,that isnt proof at all.
Also, many are explainable as a prior memory in this life.
However,I do believe that as we learn more in the fields of quantum physics ,resonance and such,we just might be able to find the evidence needed to help explain and support it.If there is any.
Either way,I am not taking a chance and I make damn sure I learn from my mistakes etc...just so I wont have to repeat it all just in case.

having studied some quantum mechanics i can see how it might effect reincarnation, but i havent read any theories.

oceanne is there an actual theory that has been put forth to describe reincarnation? i would love to see that.

im not so sure that subscribe to the karmic debt thing, but thats about personal belief (as is so much) and perhaps not provable.

what i find so interesting about reincarnation is that it is something that is actually provable.

Im not sure on any published theories LW,but I have a couple of my own.And I have found two things that could possibly be behind it.But I really must do some more work on it before I say anything.Soon though.
If I do find anything out there I will sure let you know.

karma...isnt the whole basis of reincarnation based on karmic debt?

Im not so sure about that.Reasons being is that supposedly, some other entities envy mankind and our souls.I wonder why that would be.
I have a feeling that while we might be reincarnated,we dont come back as other creatures.Of all the accounts that have been memories and such not one that I know of has ever been someone saying they were a cat or dog or whatever..
But then,on the other hand most of us do have a close affiliation with certain animals.
So whos to say.
One thing I have noticed though is that alot of these memories are always of some one who was a king or queen or some other person who was famous and who made some kind of difference in the history of man.
I often wonder about that too.

i think karmic debt and such are human overlays over nature. we try to justify things and give them a pattern that might not actually exist.
reincarnation is (probably) a fact. if that is the case, its like airplanes can fly. the airplane doesn't needs the permission of the gods, or anything else to do so except to obey the laws of physics.

the whole karma thing forgets that each culture is going to consider different things good and different things to be bad.

today more and more people consider love between man and man or woman and woman to be love...therefore good.

but in many cultures, especially of the past (including most of the time of rome, ancient israel, ancient egypt, and far more as well.

so would being gay that was nice to people make you come back better, or worse?

just one example to consider

and of coarse thats only my thoughts.

Thing is,what to do you feel you have a right to anytime you do something"good"?What would be your expected reward?
there are those who do good things for others and sometimes their luck isnt so great.Could that be their karmic debt from the past at work?
Maybe so.

Religions that believe in Reincarnation:

Hinduism, Jainism, and Sikhism; the Buddhist concept of rebirth. Druidism as well. Although the majority of sects within Judaism, Christianity and Islam do not believe that individuals reincarnate, particular groups within these religions do refer to reincarnation; these groups include the Hassidim, the Cathars, the Druze and the Rosicrucians.

Many Christians regard Jesus as a divine incarnation and they and many Muslims believe he and some prophets may incarnate again.

Hindu gods are said to have reincarnated.

Celtic religion seems to have had reincarnating gods also.

The Buddhist concept of reincarnation differs from others.

Tibetan Buddhism believes it is very rare for a person to be reborn in the immediate next life as a human.

Plato taught that "all learning is but recollection" because we have innate knowledge of universal ideas and we need only recall our buried memories. He also stated that the number of souls must be finite because souls are indestructible.

Benjamin Franklin held a similar view.

Then you have people that study past-life recalls.

Twentieth century Ian Stevenson, a psychiatrist-parapsychologist at the University of Virginia, gained a level of prominence for publishing more than 2,500 case studies from around the world of children that seemed to him to be able to remember events in a life that had ended, often in a violent way, before the child was born. He also believes that our birthmarks and congenital deformities (on children) which he reported corresponded to fatal wounds of the deceased.

Westerners accept the idea of reincarnation including certain contemporary Christians, modern Neopagans, followers of Spiritism, Theosophists and students of esoteric philosophies such as Kabbalah, and Gnostic and Esoteric Christianity as well as of Indian religions.

Literally this is just a small portion of things and stories that can be found by simple research, and that doesn't include other people's stories that has yet to be told. ;)

I wrote a poem about it a few years ago when I find the poem I will post it if anyone is interested. the bible passage talks of reincarnation in a sense. I believe that it is possible to remember past lives however improbable it my be. Scientist have proven that we all have genetic memory, in our DNA which does everything form dictate your skin and eye color to your predisposition to getting certain diseases. We are also born with instincts which are genetic survival tools, that pass down generation to generation.. These could be a form of genetic memory. Using this information I believe that it is possible, however improbable, to have actual memories of past ancestors. But you would have to be a direct descendent of the person. Basically no (great-great-great….ect) aunts, uncles, and cousins, would not be able to pass their experiences onto you, for obvious reasons. When dealing with the idea of souls there is nothing to prove or disprove it is base solely on faith with no facts to prove or disprove it. So I really is up to you whether you believe in it or not but these are some of my views on this particular subject.

Amazing that a child could research this so well, but I suspect parental involvement, this 10 year old would have no problem, especially with the internet at his disposal and being a very avid player of flight shooting games, it's easy to see that the truth it that it's a gimmick that most likely the parents are involved in to sell a book. Remember kids will do anything for a parents approval, love, and not to mention bribes. Sorry it still doesn't prove it. the fact is it is all hearsay with a well coached little boy. look at “The Sixth Sense” that boy is a great actor, but really that's all he is, an actor. Just because it’s on the news doesn’t make it true. Propaganda brings in more viewers.

There's a few posts asking for scientific proof, but figuring science doesn't really explore the bounds of the supernatural...

you're not ever gonna find it.

Science only explains things of nature... So TV Shows where they have devises and monitors hooked up to see spirits and things like that are just fake.... because anyone who studies science in depth realize that to prove something scientifically you have to have a means to replicate something over and over again with the exact same results... and a medium to measure the results, as well as constant environments and so on and so fourth... so it's impossible to prove anything of the supernatural just because science isn't the art of studying the supernatural...

it's the art of studying the natural...nothing more.

So if you're looking for science to prove things true or false... it's never gonna happen.

I have to respectfully disagree .Mostly because while science might not be able to replicate reincarnation or certain things directly,I believe that science will someday find and be able to explain the mechanisms behind many of these "supernatural" things...because they arent supernatural.JMHO.Example ghosts. Now while they havent PROOVEN ghosts to be real, there is a way to supposedly detect them ..ELF etc.. Science has already proven that ELF exists..you catch my drift? ;)

I mean they used to thing a man/God in the sky shot them down after another man/God smithed them for him. I mean come on. I'm not saying it's not posible it's just I won't put much stalk into it with out better evidance.

Science (from Latin: scientia, meaning "knowledge") is a systematic enterprise of gathering knowledge about nature and organizing and condensing that knowledge into testable laws and theories.

Figuring the definition of science is...stated above... no...science does NOT explore the supernatural... they are just people who think there is a correlation but are obviously not people who study science.... obviously...

Science does NOT study the super natural....

Therefore cannot prove the supernatural...including reincarnation.

As I stated,I respectfully disagree. It is because of these suspected correlations that more amd more scientists are beginning to explore mechanisms BEHIND some of these so called "supernatural" phenomenon. As we get more and more into physics,we are finding mere and more that would allow for,and suggest that some of these phenomenon are real. Therefore, providing at least some evidence .

This thread btw, isnt about science verses belief. If some require evidence in order to believe it,then so be it.Others do not.We will all eventually see whether science will find evidence of reincarnation as well as other things..Until then, why mark yourself as bias.for those who would like to take another route other than science,There are teachings such as Buddah and other religions that would suggest reincarnation..What a person ends up believing is up to them.

While I personally find reincarnation logically dubious given that it seems illogical to constantly repeat the same life cycle over and over and over again, yet that is simply my own reasoning on the issue.

As for science being unable to provide any evidence for the supernatural... this is so not the case.

When Humans were ignorant of what caused such simple natural phenomena as sunshine, rain, thunder and lightning, plants and animals, the stars, comets, etc., ALL of these were interpreted by our ancestors as being supernatural and caused by supernatural means.

It was only thanks to SCIENCE that all such supposed "supernatural" phenomena were explained and Human beings have benefitted immeasurably as a result of such greater understandings. Thanks solely to Science, no more were hearts being cut out, virgins being thrown into volcanoes, "witches" being burned, "vampires" being staked, etc., to "appease" the supernatural gods and monsters that were once so ignorantly and ridiculously believed to be causing all of this.

And thank heaven for this fact, or else we all would still be engaged in such disgustingly vile activities attempting to appease "supernatural" beings that don't exist and weren't causing any of these.

Thus... we all owe an enormous debt to the Age of Reason that initiated the Renaissance Period and the Ages of Enlightenment that were all triggered by Humans finally beginning to QUESTION that which they had previously called "supernatural" and sought to actually explain... through Science and Logic... that then called "Supernatural."

Point being... Science is what makes the "Supernatural" no longer supernatural but, instead, understood... and reveals belief (of which this forum topic contains nothing but) for the highly questionable whims of emotion, vanity and fear that all such ultimately truly is.

Therefore, given this undeniable fact of history, when anything "supernatural" is believed for which no actual evidence exists... anyone with an ounce of Logic must question whether such exists at all.

Believing, alone, doesn't make it so, people.

To use a simple analogy, if the "Supernatural" is the "boogieman" hiding under the bed, Science and Logic is the parent with the flashlight who raises up the bed covers and shines the light under the bed so the child can see that, in fact, nothing "supernatural" actually exists.

If the child is smart, he/she will be happy to look under the bed with the flashlight and learn, thereby, to seek out answers to fears and doubts rather than screw shut the eyes and refuse to actually look or question.

If, on the other hand, the child prefers to refuse the flashlight, enjoying the emotional thrill or his/her fears or for fear of "offending" the imagined "boogieman" by using the flashlight of Logic and Science... well, what can be done?

After all... truly, none are so blind as those who will not see.

That is a good way to put it into perspective Upir.
Also,I might point out by asking who is anyone to say that reincarnation ISNT natural? IF it is real, then obviously it is most likely a natural phenomenon.Being natural does not mean that something or someone isnt spiritual.
SOMETHING that occurs in the Universe makes it happen. The Universe isnt supernatural. At least I dont feel that it is.Crazy and impossible to understand, absoloutely!but in the end, most likely natural.
Even the dimensions,if they do exist, wouldnt be suprnatural. They would be a natural part of what is.
So the uncalled for facepaw stamp GOChaos, and the snide little peal of laughter and "WIN" comment from your girl? Really? only makes you look foolish and petty. There is no win or loose here, only learning.

And yet it still stands to reason that it is STILL under the category of supernatural.....

Or have we put it under another category all of a sudden? The fact remains that until so called science can catch up...we are still in the dark ages on this one. Which is what is being discussed....Supernatural.

Sounds like its time to stone that witch again! *grins*

Now,getting back to the topic, there is some compelling evidence in a case of a boy who had perished in a crash.Several years later,a very young boy in the same town kept claiming to have memories of another family there. He was really insistant that he should be allowed to see this family. He knew their names and everything, claiming to recognize people in family photographs.ok,that is all well and good, but what stands out to me is,after a while I believe someone noticed some similarities in the handwriting of the young boy and that of the deceased. After being examined by several forensic handwriting experts,it was concluded that the handwriting was almost identical.

We would all benefit from a little sense of humor too...but then apparently some take things a bit more seriously in their world than is healthy obviously....

Also agreed..it is a matter of belief. Whether one sees it as being a scientific provable fact or not, it doesn't negate the answer one way or another of whether it is believed in ones mind set. Plain and simple. Which I do believe was the onset of this thread.

I for one, do feel it's real, I have heard and myself had experiences with it on a personal nature that I am not inclined to share as it is not open for public display. Suffice it to say like anything else in this world that is held beneath scrutiny it shall always be up for debate.

Humor is great,as long as it isnt at another's expense in the public forum in an attempt to mask belittlement. In this case, mine as you so graciously stated in your message.
Shame that.

The importance of evidence is to substanceate beliefs or help one form them. Some have hard belefs that are based on faith. Some need some tenative evidence. And some go further in that they need hard core scientific evidence.
bottom line is science has been working on gathering that evidence when it comes to reincarnation.Personally,I hope it succeeds. For alot of reasons.

I understand where you're coming from oceanne and I agree that science may one day catch up and prove many things that many hold to be "supernatural."

But, I for one prefer that it as many other things remain faith based. Without faith, there is no hope, and without hope, there is nothing.

(again, just my opinion. This is intended to be as respectful as possible)

Yet... where track records are concerned... does not Science provide a far far better track record of being correct than ever does belief (faith)? After all, unlike belief, Science welcomes criticism and correction in achieving the ultimate goal of seeking Truth. Belief, on the other hand, does not abide any such critical examination given that it is not founded on any such search.

Only the Scientific Method of approaching any theory or belief offer real hope that has the best chance of being vindicated whereas, all too often, belief and faith alone have proved time and time again to offer false hope at best.

Few beliefs if any have ever been actually vindicated and the hope and security they offered proved correct. And history is strewn with the millions of those who have been forced to become victims of its cruel demands, whims, and petulant pride.

True, science does not yet provide answers for everything. Yet only science provides the hope (there's that word again) that eventually such answers will be within our grasp if we carefully follow the evidences far enough.

However, as belief seeks no evidences and promotes no logical considerations of any such... there is no real hope in belief of ever ulitmately understanding anything.

Whether reincarnation has any validity or not... one thing is for sure: for now, only time will tell. ;)

Hope.Yes indeed, that is something we all need.Because you are so right K,without it,we dont thrive.
And this is an important factor in reincarnation..the hope that we can come back and fix mistakes we have made in prior lives. The hope to someday transcend into an existance with no ill.
We look for hope in different places. The hope that faith is founded and sor some, the hope that sciencce could bring by letting us know these things can and do exist.

I believe strongly in reincarnation .. I have had very detailed memories/ dreams of past lives ... that were more detailed and real then just a dream ... So much when I awake I still feel the emotions for hours afterwards ... and the dreams will repeat over and over ..

Upir, I understand what you are saying. But, to offer maybe the other side of the coin....Please, bare with me on this one...

When Georges St. Pierre fought Matt Serra, on paper the science said that Georges would win easily. That did not happen. Matt knocked him out.

Then, the rematch....

It was proven, that Matt would win. But, Georges made him look like a novice fighter and beat him easily.

Why?

Because, Georges had faith in something that hadn't been proven yet. Thus, he had hope.

There are things in this existence that science can't explain, mainly because of the human factor. We are not perfect creatures and reincarnation does epitomize the human factor.
