Excorcism is probably one of the most widespread practises in the history of man, and almost every religion has a context where in excorcism and possession is considered a possibility, eventhough the interputations and the methods can vary quite alot.

Within christianity it is rather widespread. It can be read in the bible, how Jesus excorcises demons from men, and into pigs. The most famous kind of excorcism though, is the roman-catholic ceremony which has remained unchanged since the 18th century. An excorcism is mainly based on telling the evil spirit, that it must vanish, and even further ritual things are used in excorcisms, such as crosses, holy water and simular.

Within Voodoo (Vodun) excorcism has taken another approach; they are a part of the religious rituals, and the spirit is called a Loa. It leaves the possessed at the end of the ritual. The same is actually also found within christianity, being possessed by the holy spirit - which is a common practise in several churches.

In the sumerian mythology there are also found several rituals to excorcise evil spirits with, and it is even seen in the famous Gilgamesh Epos where Lilitu has taken seat in the holy Hululupu Tree, but is driven out by Gilgamesh.

Please can you elucidate as to where the discussion is intended here, since I can see no leading question from you, but only a statement of 'fact'.

Can the human beeing be possessed by real Demons?

My opinion is that only exists ours "inner Demons"..

personaly and this is my opinion..
i think possession is a personal battle within ones self....faceing up to ones own demons...this i beleive is also the cause for multiple personalities....to battle the darker side of ones self....rather then embraceing it

I would have to agree with RIP. Most cases of possession (christianity) seem to revolve around those that have been spoon-feed the idea of said possession from an early age on. They tend to be religious in nature, and they surely have a mind filled with all sorts of colorful demon names.

Psychoses have also been attributed to being possessed by demons and spirits. Schizophrenics for one, with the voices they can hear and those with bipolar personality disorder..... many things can be written off medically...... but then, there are those that cannot.

I agree that Possession mostly to be one's inner demons...maybe obsessions, compulsions, etc.

Like Desires states...maybe most medically related....I mean for those who know me I have OCD and my thoughts are consumed by random non-logical patterned thoughts...but I wouldn't call this a demon.

But, if that is the case...who here is going to perform the excorcism?

By noticing the deviations between an individual's cellular residue, depossession/exorcism can easily be achieved.

I believe that many are just mentally ill but there have been cases that seem to be genuine possessions..I cant rule anything out "as they say they is much more then meets the eye"......

It is in how we deal with this not I think whether the person is possessed or believes they are possessed that is the real issue..........

If the person believe they would be helped by excorism then well go ahead I have heard of cases that have gotten better due to the practice christian or some other form then well let them and learn from it...

Cultural practices are there own we cant look at them from our own and say something about it not knowing what those are this makes us ethnocentric...........

I have to agree with those that have stated that there are many medical conditions that mimic possessions. Our minds are such powerful tools that we still have only a base understanding of its workings.

I have seen young healthy individuals who have no medical reason stop walking, or ones that have been exposed to psycho-trauma combined with a head injury remain in a vegetative state even though their EKG’s and other tests show up within normal parameters. So for me to view possessions as an illness or aspect of the mind I totally understand, and agree with. Just because we do not understand it or it seems different from what we know, does not mean that at some point we will not progress far enough to have this knowledge.

I believe that, in some cultures, but, only in the oldest people...the "possession" is made by induction...

Like, the oldest people,living in Portugal, they believe strongly in demons, God, Satan,...if someone tells them they are unlucky or something bad happend, cause of a spirit or something, they run to search a "Bruxa", (portuguese name for Witch).

i think when most people hear the word exorcism they think of the movie the exorcist. in all actuality exorcism is a practice in catholosism the idea of a priest facing down a demon with holy water and a crucifix is nothing more than a very entertaining hollywood show.


True catholic exorcisms are totlly different than how they are portrayed in the movies.

I totally agree with you RIP that our mind can really play tricks on us and that in my opinon it is totally inner demon that one may be facing and not the actual Satan or evil spirits, unless I witness an actual Possession insomeone it is just real hard to believe. just my opinon

I agree that your brain can play many tricks on you and well drive one crazy so to speak, yet I have seen some stuff that I am not to sure how you would explain it or believe it to be just your mind. Of course they say Genius borderlines with Insanity.... so, it just is what do you believe is possible....

From my understanding of this. I see people who have claimed to be in possession have two differnt personalities. Doctors will call it Mulit personality disorder. However, I do belive if you alow yourself to be the object of possession it's easier for the spirits that dwel in this world to obtain there own exsistance with in you.

I wil go along with the fact that there are tricks that our brains can play that we have no understanding of.

I would not discount possessions as a trick of the of the brain though. But in my belief it is very real and very serious.
it is not like the classic tales of possession but it is a thing to watch out for.

well,I have practiced Energy work,Chakras,Auras for many years and while I have encountered some very dark and sinister vibes from certain individuals I don't believe I have ever actually witnessed a true case of possession.

I belive in possesion and in Excorcisms. I think in your religon, like you said befor, has to do with it, but I think that there inner and outer demon's like I said it is all in what you belive...

the actual possesion and exorcism that the movie The Exorcist was based on happened an hour and a half away from where I was born. It happened in Silver Springs MD and it was an 8 year old boy not a girl at all that was possesed

Well I completly beleive in possessions as well as the tool of Excorcisms. I have witnessed my own acounts as well as I have a close friend who's father is a minister and as a child her and her family where made to go and watch these accounts so they could pray and prayer circles. I have seen things such people put curses on a home or person or oblect and people come out and take the bad energy out of that thing etc. There is and will alsys be a battle between good and evil.

I definetly believe in possession! I also do think that sometimes a persons mind can play tricks on them or their inner demons can surface. Years ago tho, things like possession were more accept I guess you would say! There was not all the medications, & docs to just label someone as crazy & lock them away. Now days that's what we do! I'm not saying that everyone in the nut house is possessed, I don't mean that at all, but I think it's very possible that some are! The doctors keep some of them so medicated, that you probably couldn't tell if they were truely possessed or not! Things like possession are just another thing that I think society is unwilling to accept so no one really wants to know! I mean how many doctors do you think would ever say that someone was possessed or might be! They would lose there license & probably get labelled as nuts too! I definetly believe in it & have been witness to it! To those that have never seen it, be very glad you have not.

i personally do not believe in them. at this point that is. maybe if i had some time in which to research it more i could have a better understanding of them.

I don't think that you have to believe demons or such to be possessed by one. whether you believeor not, you are still able to possess by these creatures.

they are out there. just becuase you don't believe in them doesn't mean they don't exist and they can still hurt you.
