I've read it. I read anything to do with Vlad. I was disappointed at how little historical information was there of him.

I find european authors too longwinded. They are just not as exciting as americans write. They don't hardly stay with the story, they want so to drone on with how they feel about things. I read it all, but it could have been done so much better.

It is an amazing book. Fact of Fiction, it is a wonderful read. I will soon be in the process of going back through this book to dig out topics (Countries, cultures, etc.) that I wish to study, myself.

The Historian is about just that. But it is about much more. It is about Vlad Dracula (Drakulya) and his wish to find the right historian to write his story. Much in the vain of Interview with a Vampire, yet this is more about the prospective writers seeking out the main character of their story. It is a good, hard, read... I suggest you pick up a copy. :)

I am reading it now, and almost finished. I found parts of it fascinating and many parts very slow moving and hard to get through. For the most part, fascinating information on Vlad and the history of his times and surrounding areas. I recommend the book...it really gets you sucked in with the first part of it.

Though I found the reading to be a bit dry at times, I enjoyed The Historian none-the-less.
It tended to get longwinded at times, but I think that was well within the tone of the book

The book got mixed reviews, but it is most definitely worth reading. You can find it in just about every chain book store. I bought mine at Barnes and Noble's

i think i need to read it again but i think it is a very exquisite book and a very fascinating story.

A very good insight as to the life and times of Dracul - very brutal and superstitious. Even in the flashbacks of her father's in the 1950s and how it was.

I haven't had a chance to read that book... is that what the movie The Historian was based off of?

I think there is a Sony Pictures movie based on the book to be released in 2006

I think the current move you are referring to is the Librarian.....who researches history in and Indiana Jones fashion. The Historian is not yet a movie....but it seems will BE one.
The Historian is decent. I actually listened to it on CD...as many have said..parts drone...and my mind wandered...and yet parts were excellent and I imagined I was there in the "study" with them.....waiting to see what would happen next.

I have read through half of it.. Its kidna a slow paced book, but when ever I get intristed something disastress happens in my life.. lol.

I've read it. Fasinating book really. I didn't agree with alot of the history however. Some of it I found myself questioning.

I got the book when it first came out and was so disappointed. It was very boring and left me wondering, how the heck did she sell the manuscript for $2million. She is a first time author and it set a record...they hyped this book up so much...what a let down!!

similar in story to another book I had read a while back called "I am Dracula"-- basically Vlad looking for someone to document his story.

The Historian is the book.....and is rather slow with sa few interesting parts.

It is an interesting read...you do learn alot of Vlad's time and war between countries and leaders. The author did quite alot of research and it showed.. yes the pace could be faster, but it was intriguing and interesting... and you did like the characters.

An excellent read. Reading a book with this much detail is a joy. Wonderful book.

I strted to read it, but as a result, stopped. lol I dont really like historical fact. non fiction books. for me, its like trying to get a kid with adhd to sit still for a few hours.
not gunna happen.

I generally love the historical fiction genre. I am still slogging through this book. It's not a page-turner, though there are sections that will charm you. Nothing really new or captivating, so consider that before hefting it up...it's not a weekend read.

Best feature: charming coming-of-age story involving a female protagonist

Worst feature: long passages that do not move the plot forward lead to a slow-moving pace that drags sometimes for whole chapters.

Unfortunately, I have to say that I didn't care for the book too much. I read about a quarter of the way through it and completely lost interest and had to put it down.

i own it although i havent picked it up yet to read it along with several outher books..... it looks like it will be a great one when i do find the time to read it..........

I have read the book a couple time and now reading it for the third time. I loved it and it is one that you can't put down. A little creative and better than stephen king he is a little flaky.

Ok I just read it.......It seems to be dealing with the Impalers quest to find the perfect author to write his biography....

i to was disappointed by the lack of historical facts about Vlad. But i thought over all it was still a very good book

finished reading it. it seemed like a good book but lacked in the facts department for my taste still it is a good read.

I got the book as a Christmas present from my mom (minamurray). I very much enjoyed it - although I liked it more for the historical aspect, not so much the vampiric.

It was much less fantasy-laden as many vampire stories, and I enjoyed it more because of it. The way it was written made me feel as though what was happening was perfectly rational... like the character of discussion could literally pounce any moment from my own closet! I liked that much better in contrast with, say, Robin McKinley's Sunshine, which was much more of the fantasy genre.

I highly recommend The Historian.

Finished it,and i though it was good,drags in a couple of places but that happens in every book,its worth the read

I have also started reading it, but find the hard to get through parts really boring. It is interesting, but very slow paced.

I bought it and Saille is reading it at the mo.
She says that it's a hard slog at times but still enjoyable.

I just bought this & just started reading it although I shall concentrate on it more as from next week when I'm back home.. The plot seems very interesting although it is so immersed in details that I was at least once cut off the main plot for awhile.. I don't usually like that, yet I think it's quite high standard... more to come once I've done much more reading.
