What I would like to know is, since most here believe in "past lives" , do you believe you could have been something else other than human , or is it species specific?

my memories are always that of a human. Past lives are supposed to be a journey of learning. How can you learn if your a caterpillar one past life? It's my opinion that reincarnation is species specific.

i do believe that in the past life it is possible to be something else other then human. Would be interesting to fined out.

I agree with ravenna, past lifes are about continuing knowledge, and as such i believe that you would continue in human form till you absorbed all knowledge.

While I have almost always heard from others that you could be any living thing from plant to animal. I myself don't believe that you can learn and grow that way. Since I believe that is what it's all about, I think you must return as a human being. It's the gender, race and other such that change to give you the chance to walk in the other guy's shoes, so to speak.

Just to argue,........ how is it not a way to grow and or learn from being another lifeform, do not they have ANYTHING to offer? Or is the human nature , so self-abosorbed, in itself, they see no other intelligence but their own?

animals rely on instincts. They will not go against their instincts (I'm sure there are some exceptions). Humans are special in that we do not always follow our instincts and we make choices. Being able to make choices is what makes the choices wrong or good and makes us liable for them. Animals can't be held responsible because they do not make choices. Hence, we wouldn't learn anything in animal form.

i agree with someone that said. animals run on instinct. what would be the point to come back as a animal. here is a thought...

you know how from the age 0-7 you really dont have that much of a memory.
what if all "New" souls live their first few as animals just to learn to run and trust your instincts.
then they graduate to human when you can start remembering that you might have had a past...
(i hope that made sense, if not let me know i can expand on it better)

I believe in past lives, but not as an animal. A human has to go through approximately 5 stages to achieve eternal rest. These stages may not take only 1 lifetime. Eternal rest is when we are done with our lifetimes, and we can rest in our non-worldly form, or we can return to Earth if we so choose. This is stuff from nonfiction books I have read. i for sure believe in past lives. i think that dejavu comes from something like that. i feel like i have such an old soul compared to my age in numbers. i was def around in another lifetime.

oh and i dont think its species specific either. i for real think my cat was an owl in another life. lol

I do believe it is human return, for there are things that we must learn on this plane. I believe if someone murder someone and did'nt learn from the experience, then they will come back and they will be murdered. That is only my thoughts.

I have memories of what I can only describe as animalistic in nature.
Whether or not they are memories of a past life as an animal I cannot say.
But it has carried over to my immediate aura. I tend to attract predatory animals, and spook most others (like horses)
But that may just be me.

Instinct is instinct, common sense is common sense , bad judgment is bad judgment, ..... animals have "IT" , WE have" IT", some and or both on different levels. ......... AN animal , thinks very simply, humans do too, now, If I were a brain surgeon, would I be more intellegent, ?........ over you the dishwasher?.....more than likely , but... does that make me "better than you"...NO........ ,HUMANS ARE , of the higher intellegence , but that does not mean we are smarter!There is SOMETHING to be learned from ALL lifeforms......

I believe we are intelligent animals and that all life has some what of a soul or spirit that can evolve once dead to be what it desires most. The concept of reincarnation really is a creation of a new physical form for ones soul and an evolutionary spiritual step. I always felt when one dies they can determine their own paith to either move beyond this world or return to it.

I never thought I was reincarnated and most likely I was not (never had any experience indicating such a belief) but I do feel some people are. I hope when I die I can become a diffrent species such as a wolf or even a shark... It would be interesting to be a predator and see what happens.

I believe that it is possible for both but that is just my thoughts on this.. i think it just depends on the person..

I'm glad I haven't run into any of this on VR, but most of the people that you hear of who have had past lives were always somebody famous. Now why is that?! Seriously though, some religions believe that what you are reincarnated as is based upon what you did in this life. I don't know of anyone personally who has clear memories of a past life, though.

I believe that we could have been some other form in a past life. There is no actual proof, but I still believe that it is possible.

I agree with Foreverseeking. I believe that we as humans are animals, too. Us, humans are mammals, and mammals are animals. Simple as that. We may be more intelligent in some form or way. But, I also know that when it comes to the wild and natural instincts, animals have the strong point, there. There is so much that we can learn from animals in what they have to offer to us, and then the same in what we can offer them in return.

There are some cultures that believe that you can be something other than human depending on the kind of life you lead. However, personally I don't believe it. I don't believe that every animal has the same amount of consciousness in everything that they do as a human with an immortal soul would.

I'm a firm believer in reincarnation. But, I find it a bit hard to fathom the purpose of becoming something other then human. As stated, animals rely on instinct, and their nature. There's nothing more to it. Whereas, reincarnation is about gaining knowledge. From what I can remember, what glimpses of past lives I have managed to catch, it has only ever been in human form.

Sometimes I have dreams of things that is hard for me to figure out how i would know.

I am positive that I have had past lives. I had this feeling for a long time. I finally went to a Psychic fair, and had my cards read. She told me things that certainly pertained to feelings and fears that I have. It was actually a relief to know what happened and what caused these fears!

well the native people believe that past lives can be in the form of animals or people it is not species specific but most cultures believe that you can only reincarnate as a human

I dont know but I dont think so....I think once human always human...once a cat always a cat...even though I had a cat once that made me and my mom question that LOL. I swear that cat acted so human it was weird. She even would use the toilet! (no one trained her) That's why when I first saw Meet the Parents I cried laughing thinking about my cat snowball...Also she would sit at the dinner table and eat lol. I swear it's all true.

I believe and this is just my opinion (as always..lol) that I have lived a past life as an animal. It has been stated here in this forum thread "animals rely on instinct, and their nature. "; but isn't that what we as humans do as well? I don't understand how that would make it all fall out of liine.

well the basis of reincarnation is not gender specific. and mosty earth base religions have a very close relationship with animal spirits. i belive i have been a few animals in my time on this plane of existance

Good question because it leaves an opening for belief of soul and spirit and the difference between the two in regards to human and animal.
I believe since we are in the animal kingdom, that we may have natures transfixed within us already that are a part of the overall "Nature" of nature. As per one persons ability to survive in an environment outside of Civilization and feel just as home with it as he or she would in their normal habitat.
I don't think that mans spirit could have been at one time within an animal but rather that mans spirit has shared the relationship of that animals freedom of life.

Well I don`t know if I had a past life as a animal , but If I was to be any animal It would a bird .

To pass beyond we must experience and learn from that experience. There is no "Cap" or limitation to this experience and therefor I believe that not only is reincarnation not species specific, but is infact not ever living specific!

I believe it is feasable to incarnate as a stone, a tree, a breath of wind, a beam of light, a tune, a concept, many different and incomprehensible things to our limited human minds, but from which our etheric spirits can gain learning. However as this learning is beyond human comprehension, there is no way you would be able to access it on anything beyond a very subconcious level!

Do you not feel attunemment with certain stones, of attachments to certain harmonies?

There is a great deal of learning beyond the human realm of comprehension, and it should not be discounted.

One of the things they do say about past lives is if you were male in your last life and still thought of being male but came back as a female it is possible for you to have male traits like being a tomboy or in some cases being born gay or bi there are many ideas on this and probably to many to count but it is one that makes some sense to me.

The only past life that I am aware of so far has consisted of a human form...

you come back as what ever you need to to learn your lesans to move on to the next life what ever that is

Let me briefly comment again on instinct....we as animals should have have it......most animals rely on it for survival.
Remember , the sunami ? The animals were leaving , they knew something was wrong. With a few exceptions that recognized the warning signs, most people just sat there and were oblivious to what was about to happen. I feel , again with the exception of a few, some of our animalistic insticts have been conditioned out of us through the centries.

i think that past lives are not species specific. if u can live whether u are human or animal then u could have had a past life. I thik I was a dog at one point.

Honestly I have never thought of having a past life I mean it might be possible but if I have had one I have no memories of it. But I believe that you can be anything, animals feel I believe as we do, love, hate, jealousy, and pain so I believe that we could have been other species not just humans.

I believe you can have spiritual guides but never have a past life as a animal cause as it was already stated our past lives are journey's of learning.

If one is pre-disposed to believe the past lives view of the cycle of life, then yes, why wouldn't you be another animal in a previous life time?

There are some who believe affinity with animals in this lifetime is an indicator of having lived a lifetime as that animal before.

I think that living a life as an animal would provide a great deal of benefit and plenty of opportunities for learning. I would love to be a dolphin for a lifetime. :)

Others are of the belief that if you are 'good' you go up in terms of lives to lead and if you're 'bad, you reincarnate as a lower life form. I don't subscribe to this personally because that makes the self-absorbed association that humans are at the top of the food-chain... and therefore 'above' all other creatures on earth.

I personally, was an elf. If someone was a creature not from this Earth it would be called otherkin. If someone was a creature from this Earth they would be called therian.

If you believ all things have a spirit and believe in the karmic circle of life, I see no reason why the form reincarnated can be anything...

Your soul represents your life. In other words, you are what you are in any life. So, if you are a human in this one and really messed it up, the chances are good that you will be put into something other than human so you can appreciate your human form more when you do not have it. It is early everyone, sorry but that is about as fast as my brain can go. :)
I do believe that you can come back as anything. I don't believe that humans are the lowest form as I have read. We are not, we are the highest form and not to be religious but God made us in his image. Whichever God you choose, the general concensus is that you are 'like' in form as that of God. Past lives happen, but I think they happen in human form. The sex can be something that changes I would think, but form.. nah that is like putting an elephant into an ant. The soul is just too big.. :)

I have taken human form several times.

I don't have any past life memories, but my husband and I were joking around the other day about the cat - I would almost swear that he used to be a water God/sprite/etc... the way he plays in the tub...(if you want to understand what I mean, check out my journal.)

Now, he remembers that he's a cat in THIS life long enough to stay out of standing water, but he sure does enjoy being around water.

I agree with crossoflorraine1, instinct in in both human nature and animal nature. everything has a soul. i dont think there are boundaries within the realms of reincarnation. I think if an animal can come back as another animal, and a human as another human then how can it be that a human couldnt have been an animal before. in the cave men days humans were more barbaric and animalistic. how do we know they didnt get that way from having been an animal in the past?
