xStarGirrlx's thread about "changes" got me thinking just now, so i thought i'd start my first forum topic!
Are there and FEMALES here, who consider themselves Lycans or other type of Wolverinesque Canids???
It seems that it is favoured more by the Male gender of this genre of people, and the ladies tend to be dolphins or faeries etc!
and NO, before anybody starts, i am NOT looking for a Mate! I was merely asking a question about stuff i adore!
Pffft! LoL
lol.. I love dogs, wolves, etc.... anything to do with that family really. I don't consider myself to be one but I can and do dominate them quite easily. There has only been one dog ever that didn't fall for me. lol... I used to work at the local clinic grooming dogs.. there was one who was so mean he would bite his owners for no reason.. but around me, he was quiet as could be... :P
I'm more of a cat person merely because I was never allowed a dog in my room. However, I do find them more appealing. :P
I, for one, would love to meet those who are into wolves.. or perhaps a were or two. :P
I personally believe that Lycantrope would have to have both male and female counterparts. If a person believes himself/herself, a Wolf hybrid, if you will, then I would assume that they would want a mate. I think wolves are lovely creatures, but I am a cat person, so I don't have this issue.
Interesting post topic!
For the record, yes there are male and female, and even female Alphas, like most others species, to mate requires them both
Yes there are females out there that are lycanthrope. Some are alphas just like the male. You cant have predominantly 1 sex & not have enough of the other. How would the species survive that way? (thats just my thoughts) I have to ask though, when does the person really know if he/she is truly lycan? Yes i realize im off the subject with this question but im just curious.
Depends who wrote the RPG these weres follow..... seriously REAL weres have a culture same as wolves. There is an Alpha female, who must be able to kick any bitchs ass in the pack. Her mate is the male Alpha.
I have chatted with a couple of female that consider themselves to be lycans on this site.
I think more men tend to identify with the werwolf because the are typically strong, show no ferar and are very primal in their actions. Many women think that most men are these things to. So it may not be a far stretch.
I know for myself there are times when I feel more akin to lycans then I do to Vampires.
This topic is nowhere as easy as any vampire topic, theres entirely too many opinions and statements on this that can easily be shot down by most others out there wheather for lack of knowledge or belief. Funny..it's easy to believe in vampires, and so seriously hard (for even those who claim themselves vampires) to believe in lycanthropes/lycanthropy.
In this open forum, all I will add is a very simple answer to this, for the most part it is a male dominated society,it's more likely to evolve in males, but yes there are dominating females involved.
And... depends on who you are and your lifestyle, this doesnt exactly revolve around stupid RPGs. (although there are many out there that claim this lifestyle, but only because of RPGs...which can be deemed as "fakes")
I'll end it here before I write an entire book about this subject in this forum. :)
honestly,i dont ever rember seeing afemale exceptin underworld.
I dont recall seeing any female lycans in that movie either, but then again, I didn't realize this topic was about Hollywood.
:/
Actually as far as movies go, there have been as many if not more females than males. The Howling, Ginger Snaps, The Curse, An American Werewolf in Paris, and perhaps the list goes on.
As for my take on this thread, I do believ I have met as many if not more female Lycanthropes in my life time than males. And most I know could whip the shit out of any male out there alpha or not. It is more of a mutual respect thing in my opinion though that enables this dominance more so that status or order.
This is an interesting thread. I hope this one goes on for a while.
I cannot imagine there NOT being female lycans, the universe has a strong emphasis on balance... so if there were no female lycan's there would be no balance if that makes any form of sense probably not so i will stop dribbling now.
Absolutely not. Anyone that tells you different is selling you something. Even if I do not use the words "lycan" or "werewolf," I do identify with the wolf. I am female, and I am strong. Awooo!
there would have to be, it is how the world survies u have both sexes except frogs as they have both in one
Thanks folks!!
I agree that there ARE females, i should have added that, but i am aware i waffle a lot on here!
However, my question was more to do with the NUMBERS.
of COURSE there WILL be females, but they seem to be more feline or "feminine" creatures, as it shows their nurturing side.
Even though Wolves are a family unit for life, and the Females and Males work TOGETHER! Unlike lions etc, where the male just sleeps and gets fed!
you know that the alpha takes control in a socitey like that I don't think it makes a diffrence about the sex and yes I know I few female lycanthrope
as for female lycans yes they do exist. i know of at least one on this site. as for me i carry mostly canid traits. i actually do have elongated canines upper and lower. and i am in the alpha role. granted my fiance is a straight vamp. she also is a alpha in her own right
I am surprised that so many people have taken this thread to not answer the question. Instead it seems to be about if there are female lycantropes or not.
I personally do see it as predominately male, not because there are not alpha females in the groups. Because most Alpha females will not tollerate the stupidity of the males.
The ones that are involved and think they are alpha typically are not and give a poor example by their proclaiming their status. True alphas do not have to state they are such, they are.
Liebe.
Thanks.
I was waiting for someone to say that!
I didn't want to speak my point in case people took it the wrong way.
The fact of the matter is, I believe that those that walk around displaying their "alpha dominance" is just a macho bravado show, and MANY (though not all) would scram and hide at the very slightest Bark of another Lycan.
Especially the females!
My reasoning is, just in real life, a good partnership would consist of equality, but either can be the "Alpha" in various aspects of different parts of their lives.
However, when one NEEDS to take a stand, it only takes "The Look" and the male knows he's gonna get hurt when he gets home! LoL
Of course, the females don't get the look very often, but again, a short growl is all that's needed to "command" respect etc.
It is vary Rare to hear a female displaying these (sometimes nonsensical) acts of machoism, as many males do, but when it comes to it, they DO have a powerful Alpha-system!
The thread turned into a very good discussion, so i was enjoying it either way.
I think the reason it's rare to see/hear that is that many find it distasteful and totally not needed. A look can shut someone up far easier and without having to seem so boorish in public.
oh how to answer this..
In a pack there is always the two Alphas..
the strongest of them..then come your beta's..those that are under the Alpha..
The females tend to act in a way that Lions to in the wild, from what I've seen taking control to do most of what needs to be done yet at there mates side.
No I do not think that the Lycan community is male-dominent..rather a well balenced pairing...
female shape shifters usually take the form of a bird - a hawk or an owl for instance. male shapeshifters tend to take the form of a wolf or tiger, because the traits of that spirit is more suited to the male. it is all to do with your spirit animal. its not that women cannot have the wolf spirit within them - just that they are statistically less likely to.
very well put Karnstein.
i agree with you, and that's the way i intended it to sound when i mentioned cats birds and dolphins earlier!
i just wondered if there was a particular trait in people that brought forward the Lycan side of things as opposed to any other.
For example, i COULD have been a snake or a shark, or even a monkey, as i can be too mischievous, but my spirit is DEFINITELY Canid.
Thanks!
I like your concise yet so precise answers! :)
Now I have to disagree. I think this idea of seperating spirits based off of gender is silly.
Too often people look to gender as an identifier of spirit. This is not the case. And to think such is in my mind nothing more than sexism. We are more than our genders and statements like that do nothing more than make assumptions on just gender.
First of all, I kind of resent being called a dolphin or a ferret. I am a vampire and a witch: thusly not an animal.
But I digress, back onto the subject at hand, as far as there being female lycans. Female wolves are the alpha dominant in the pack, so why would they not be in lycans?
I'd say yeah there is because it wouldn't make nay sense to not have any. And I also second what the lady above me said. (sorry I didn't know your name)
lycans are not wolves though. a lycan cannot successfully mate with a wolf and sire / give birth to cubs. and i'm not saying that wolves are male and dolphins female - i just said that the spirits that they represent are of a type that are more commonly found in one gender than the other. if you say that both men and women are all exactly the same, and think the same way - then you are denying reality.
Well it would depend. In most animals the male is viewed as the top of the chain of command, the only exception I can think being insects like ants and bees. Over the years the females of the human have become alot more vicouse so I can see a female in command. In werewolf "packs" (atleast the ones i've seen) like a wolf pack thier is a alpha male and female. Both are extreamly protective and territorial. So I would say by personal oppinoin that it is a more the strong-willed ruled society then a male-dominated society.
this is not something i have actually given thought to .. but a very intersting thread.. just from what im reading im would imagine that there would be females
i think that there are woman that are lycans but there are more men
Lycanthropes are mostly male dominated...but i know some females
i am a lycan female, and i am both dominant and submissive but my new mate is dominant and with the powers he has not only as a changeling but lycan and his special powers of balance of both worlds, I have chosen to be a submissive,I choose who I am and I know several lycan females who do as i do
there are male and female counter parts for a the lycan clans..the male leader is concidered Alpha the female is concidered a Lupa meaning mother of the pack and yes females can rule.
If there are male lycans, then there has to be females. Like every creature out there, they require a mate. I agree with what you are saying though, you hardly hear of females considering them sleves to be lycan. Personally, I do not consider my self to be lycan or a vampire, but this is a very interesting thread.
The alpha male and femal if they mate and get a daughter she becomes an alpha female and she is the one who choose any dominat male she wants and therefore makes him a alpha, but personaly I never saw one, exept in movies, so I need to wait to see if oenw ill show up and present herslef.
there is actual a few documented cases of women who felt they were lycan
I have some friends who are lycans or have some tendencies... not girls, just boys... I am not saying there are not girls, but maybe one of the characteristics is that lycans are big and strong... maybe stronger than a normal guy... I think that would be very difficult find a girl like that... ***just my opinion***
I definantly not in my world. I am the farthest thing from a woman that could possibly depend on a man, for anything. Yet, in all honesty--not in a sexual way--I do like to keep men around. When it comes to certain situations, that I will not talk about here, we like to pretend that we are the weaker of the species. But, it is known that it is the female wolf that does the most active hunting, the males just eat.
I do not shapeshift whatsoever. But I do prefer "lycans" over "Vampires". "Vampires" are overrated and just plain boring now. It was fun to imagine when you're younger and don't know any better. But now...they're just boring to me.
By just web surfing i have seen a lot of females that consider themselves to be Lycantropes...
Just a few thoughts...
First off we are assuming there are two means to spread lycanthropy... mating and infecting.
I have heard that females turned by a lycanthrope rarely survive the first change, because their bodies cannot take it. There are a few that do...
There are rumours also that suggest lycanthropy is hereditary... and passed from father to son, and so on... indicating that a female lycanthrope would indeed be a rarity.
To address another point I saw in the thread... about the continuation of the species... female lycanthropes would not necessarily be required. Anything that can take human form can mate and reproduce with a human...
And another point... someone said something about women not possessing the same instincts or attitudes towards violence... That made me laugh... the term BITCH was created for Lycanthrope females... and I know a few women that could make minced meat of a few lesser wolves...
Just a few thoughts
Nikolai
Well if you believe Kelley Armstrong and her series about Lycans, it's difficult for female Weres to exist.
Yes there must be male and female lycantropes, however I for one am not. Interesting forum topic though! :)
I have always felt more at home with weres than vamps and do consider myself to be one..but as for being an alpha I would say no. I prefer to be told what to do by a strong mate.
as a lycan, and alpha-male of my pack. let me say there are females. just like wolves, we have an alpha-pair, one male, one female an they equally control the pack, but the alpha-female does submit to the alpha-male
like nature, it sure dictates a male society with his mate as a counterpart, many werewolves even in film present this same case. but why could not an alphia be female a question to ponder, with society ever changing and the females being as dominant in todays life as male why not.
there is never just an Alpha-male or female there are the only mating pair of the pack. in all things they do it as a team, except that the final decision goes to the male, an example would be the vice-president and the president. the vice has say over everyone else except the president but they are still a team
i know several female lycans. hell, i was confused for one once. haha, that was a weird night.
i condsider my self something of the wolven traigt but i'm not sure what it is but i do take more closely to wolfs than anything else
With Lycan traits being so masculine a lot of women will not admit to having them. Even in this day and age most girls are brought up to be feminine and delicate. That is why a lot of women will not admit to any sort of masculine traits. I don't care what people think and therefore will admit to having a lot of these traits.
most woman dont like to admite they have this stonger side to them. In socity men are to be the dominat ones protecting there females
:P What ever i am a lycan and i'm very happy to be one
most woman rather not consider themself a wolf for that would make them a female dog or commonly refered as to bitch . vampire/witch is more powerful so that why we dont join thee lycans but im sure there are females out there that would like to be considered one
I have encountered just as many females as males if not more. I think that the societies are male dominated not because the males are necessarily stronger but because most of the females choose to be submissive to their mates.
Another thing I don't think that it is really a choice of thinking one day 'hey I like wolves I am going to start saying I am a lycan' or 'you know what vamps are cool so I am going to be one'. Saying that females choose more feminine animals and males more dominant animals is basically saying that they are RPGing.
I don't know about lycanthropes but wolves (the animal) are almost always run by the dominant breeding male with the 'alpha' breeding female dominating all but the 'alpha male'. There's studies that have found different in captive wolves but are so rare in the wild as to be an anomally.
Now for the metaphysical (with the disclaimer that faith obviously allows for anything). IF someone were truly influenced by a wolf soul or wolf personality or literally a werewolf, then that would still be subject to mankind's greater ability to think about and therefore reject instinct. SO while a wolf pack would almost certainly be male dominated, a 'werewolf' pack could be a matriarchy, oligarchy or democracy depending on how much instinct could be over-ridden by the thinking mind.
All movie roleplaying asside, is there anyone here, that seems to be answering so certainly, that actually lives their life in this manner. Well, I do. Frankly, women, if proven themselves, have just as much say or power as their male counterparts. It comes down to personallity traits or types, completely human, that dictates where you stand. If you are a leader, you lead, no matter what is between your legs.
it is not difficult for female werewolves to exist how do u think there are full blooded werewolves? There can be half breeds but they can not heal themselves instantly like the fullbloods
It is the wolfs choice for a mate....though some do say that a mate is already chosen for the wolf and other creatures of the night it is like soul mate....do not put it down for it is possible
Lycanthrope are a dominat species in any case wether it be female or male.
In general we tend to here about the male wolves more but I have a lycan friend who is female i think its due to the fact that the women hide it better than the men
You are who you are, be it: lycan, vampire, witch, ...
In nature everything has a balance, as people have already mentioned.
there are supost to be female lycans but there the queens they do nothin leavin the males to do all the work and huntin they just get first feed
alpha is alpha... male or female..it is all about dominance
The Lycan who was glaring at me and my vamp friend last night at the bookstore was male... But I personally know a few female Lycans as well, one of whom is the Chieftess of a great clan. I think the genre draws more male fans and admirers because of the physical prowess and warrior nature of the breed in general.
i think in general this is a male dominated society but i am sure as with all societies there are females as well in this too.males just tend to be more dominating
my best friend whom i call starhowler is very much into lycans and wolves and has me more interested in the subject. quite frankly, i think there should be more female lycans.
Luciferrising could not have said it better as a human in certain aspects in the relationship I have with my husband and family I am dominant in others he is
Yes most lycans truthfully are male but it can just depend !!! a true lycan Is a hybrid of werewolf and vampir but women lycans must be born with the lycan blood inorder to be lycan at all!
by nature Canids are a male dominated group...
but the chick in American Werewolf in Paris was HOOOOOOTTTTTTTTTT
i was told that the Lycans were the vampire protector during the day light hour. male would be best for that job, but female are nice to have as well.
