what happens supposedly is all of ur best and dominate traits come out

that or if your born in to it then even as a small child your heightened all ready. ive seen others cross over and its not just the best of what they have get better, but what was ones weak is now like 200 times stronger.
i know when roma crossed over he could not see wroth crap in the night, now he can stop me from scaring him dead on. he had great hearing now he can tell when my heart is racing, even if it dosent look like it.
and its all on that person on if the take what they have been given, and not trun from it.

Speaking of examples a friend of mine, one who turned me on to the vampire and wiccan world, used to tell me that she could hear a lot better and see better too... her eyesight wasn't the best to say the least she was going blind.... but now she see's better than I do and I have perfect vision.... It took a long time for her to tell me that she was a vamp though and so I didn't find any of this out until about two years ago when I told her I was going to become wiccan and that I was interested in the other part of her life she was keeping hidden.... It's crazy how it works but she scared me the first time she showed me how her senses had become sharper....

Its only the natural process, it is for every creature the more it grows or age the more it gains ins power, streinght and knowledge.

Its always been my opinion that it works like a blind mans hearing being heightened, or a deaf mans sight...

the question becomes(for me anyway), what sense did we lose?

I would think our weakest sense(s) would be heightened in order to make us a better hunter.

Do not forget even normal people can gain some if they try hard (aka train themselves). Ever closed your eyes and try to see with your ears (I do not practice often so I can not do it as good as I could). But thats just saying that if you know what you can improve might as well as try and make it stronger.

But some people that are vamps get a super charge on there senses as far as I can tell. Well at least a few of them anyway. So those parts that would be week might be normal or stronger then normal.


But in any case if you just have more energy flowing through you things just get better. Some vamps get a big boost or are helped to get that boost.

it has to be something surreal that comes in a flash.

As you develop, your senses develop and get stronger, It's a path of self discovery.

i think that the traits in a person that stood out in their mortality just become enhanced when they change.

I Believe when vampires and there chosen victm are in a sort of bond. When he or she bites there victim and drains there blood it's not really for food or life as most are said it's to be..It's more of a bond or love forming between them...But that just my thought...

I guess I have to take issue, lol...sorry. People are either born a vampyre or they are not one. Sometimes in close proximity to a vampyre in a continuous rapport there can develop a pseudo type of vampyrism in a donor. Sire is a word from Vampire: The Masquerade.
The word itself is archaic and has nothing to do with teaching or mentoring. It is a term that is masculine and is used in breeding and was used for someone of title.

People are mentored and assisted through an awakening. If they have one they were always a vampyre. Not all go through this...some do and some don't...it is not a given and like anyone else some have certain traits and others don't. We are just people and it's not that mystical.

I think it is simply because it opens a door in your mind that was closed due to lack of belief or understanding. The door gets kicked open so to speak, and you become truly aware of the power of the body, mind and spirit. We are an amazing species that knows very little of its full capabilities.

The senses are heightened first, then the vampirc nature comes out. It has nothing to do with a bite, unless you have hot stage lights pointed at your face. You have these abilities, and if you wish to call yourself a "vampire," then so be it.

I THINK it is due to the nature OF a vampire...

They have a heightened smell just like an animal smells their *prey*.. they use it as a Tool.
Night-vision.. as they need that.
Hearing.. for listening to Sounds from Afar.

I have VERY acute hearing.. I can hear White-noise and it hassles my ears!!
Also I can hear a bat.. It tickles as it is such a high pitch.

We ALL have at least ONE super-sense.. Vampires have mostly ALL heightened as they actually, NEED it.

I would not say that all of the senses are heightened, only things like smell and hearing........i dont really see how others can be heightened, it is all down to how you use your powers........if you work on it, i'm sure that you could heighten them all on your own through time if you worked on them..........

I think as vampyrs turn their sences become overwhelmed like wolves, who use these sences for hunting and surviving. chemical reaction or not. if we do not heighten our sences we will eventually have a wooden stake in our heart.

It can be really challenging answering questions here- because you never know if the thread's author is talking about fiction or fact. As for 'people'... you can heighten any senses you choose to focus on. It's humanity, not vampirism.

If you're talking about books and movies- it's whatever the author wants it to be.

my personal experience is this. i didnt relise i had heightened sences till i actually starting hanging out with ppl. slowly i relised i could see, hear, and smell far beyond any of my friends. and my reflexes are kinner too.

so i had no real 'awakening' process. aways been this way.

vampire blood to most scentist beleave it was an accident a virrus but others saw the heighten sences but dont know how 2 control what is heighten so it hasnt been reserved as an idea for a soldier

the senses in a human being are weak, on average we only use 10% of our ability to sense things, when you are sired your senses lose a restriction and highten in a sense, they don't actually increase but they open to thier full potential, and as for the actual turning, well you just have to find out for yourself.

i'm answering fatalreaction, i know it's not in the "vain" of the post. anyway the first vampire was suppossedly entered by a demon that made it long for blood.

I don't know why but it seems that while I was with my ex(who had lycan characteristics), my sense of smell really became more acute. Obviously smell is a lycan trait but still. Along the lines of vampires, my biggest sense that seems to have heightened is knowing when there's a human presence around me but not within sight. I can usually predict how close/far away someone is from me before I even see them. it comes in handy when I'm walking through a seemingly empty parking lot at night when I'm leaving work.

That could be true. I really believe in vampires being born with their sense and the senses are heightened through aging, being at the best during puberty.

but i can tell that i wasn´t born a vampire, but when i had my awakening, i certainly developed certain new abilities...

They do seem to hold that...they are different but at the same time can blend in quite well. Perhaps that is why they are so dangerous?

I think Vampires are born with it. And the senses just get better with age.

I agree with Marlene. I'm not saying you have to be born with it cause I may be wrong but I have yet to find a vampire that wasn't born with hightened senses.

I think that vampires would have to develope heigtened senses because they would need to survive more than a human...

now days with current vampires i think that the change is mostly metaphoric although there are probably some inner changes that occur inside and mentally that we don't see.

well...once you become used to your new abilities and what you have now become you are bound to have heightened sences and abilities that come with the territory of consequences as well

As for the original question... It is not the bite but the Awakening of the mind and spirit that the Embrace represents that is what opens up the mind for the perceptions to be heightened.

well if you were to look at it that when they bite you there saliva gets into your bloodstream and mixes with your blood.......i heard its like an adrinaline rush

All I know is that when a vampire bites you, you get some of their D.N.A., so in truth, you will partially become like the vampire who sired you. Also, you gain the powers that they have, which include, but are not limited to sight, hearing, and other senses being heightened.

I think that a vampire's heightened senses evolve as they age. The older they get, the more their powers become stronger. Feeding may also be a part of it. I believe with age comes wisdom, and wisdom is power.

I guess it has something to do with the fact that when someone becomes a Vampire, they shed the things in their lives which don't matter leaving room for things that do. This would naturally make them more aware in general.

I would have to say when the vamp grow's the sense's are heightened...

I think that the senses that become heightened after being sired have to deal with your environment...like if you live in a dark place either you vision gets better in the night time...or you can feel the vibrations on the air...like that you know..

i would have thought that when a vampire bites you, some kind of hybrid gene or chemical or something is released and multiplies in the body which allows your brain to become fully functional, therefore allowing you to become smarter, faster etc

I think the reason is due to becoming more self-aware of what is around you. I also think its power of suggestion that if you tell someone if they drink a glass of kool-aid from a speical jar you hold that there eye sight will improve 20%. Then I think if the person is the state of mind to believe this to be true then they will have improved eye sight.

Then again.... blood is the fluid that carries the cells though out the body... a very complex liquid that is needed to substain life... the smell of copper... that lovely smell that makes the mouth water... out of no where.... that alone is a heightend sense that I do not think all people hold... to even smell blood... Such a complex nature Vampirism is.

I think I am pretty much in agreement with Lav who seemed to really hit the nail on the head.

I don't think it is so much heightened senses as it is heightened awareness.

All our senses are bombarded with so much input every day that we screen so much out.

As you become more aware of your vampire nature you tend to let new things in and screen out the other stuff that may become distracting.

You lose your singular soul and gain another damned but more powerful one.

If you became a vampire just by being bitten by now everyone would be a vampire, its an exchange of blood however it doesnt take much blood to do it.

I believe it is all over time as well.....everything comes with practice(well so I've always been told)

It has to do with some sore of mutated blood that the sire carries. When the victim drinks the sires blood, that mutated blood mingles with our own, kinda like a virus and begins to take over and making more clones of it'self. It is then that over the years as the newly created vampire understand whattheir abilities are, they then become more adept and stronger.

I personally would not know if a vampire had heightened senses or not, and if they do it is either like you said a chemical reaction or they just learn how to perfect them over the years to help them stay alive...

In regards to vampires(being Undead, reanimated corpses), the main reason for heightened senses? Lack of any white noise. They are no longer blocking out sounds from their own body to listen to other sounds. No breathing, no heartbeat, nothing. It would be safe to take this train of thought further by saying that if you lacked any white noise, you would naturally be hearing everything else around you better.

If we're talking about "born" vampires, psychic vampires, etc.. I believe it would come down to the fact that there is a supernatural state about them in the first place. A psychic vampire might have heightened senses due to "reading" the people/things around him/her much more clearly than others. Born vampires may have trained themselves to have acute senses in regards to blood and sounds about them as a survival method.

Lastly, all predators on this planet have some sort of natural heightened sense. Snakes have Smell and heat receptors, large cats have pupils that let in more light, etc. Each being is adapted to survive the maelstrom of life, and prey upon its preferred food source.

Thats my take on it. =D
