First of all, I’m not criticizing anyone for what they believe, Nor in this post am i asking for proof. Anyone can say and believe what they want, i really don’t care. This is a very simple question for all you Magicians out there:
How did you learn magic ?
well to answer your question you dont learn magick you study it by reasearching about it and finding out all about the different kinds of magick their is out their. For me i already had it in me alittle my granmother did it and my aunt was a witch also. I just had to embrace it and start studying it which i have for a lond time now i just dont always use it. you have anyfurther questions just message me ok hope this helps ya
study, observation, try and fail method, intuition. If it worked, it worked, but found out the reason why it worked.
Its still a learning process. Will always be a learning process.
i thin some is hereditary. ive been doing it since i was small
From the time I was a wee child- magic had always fascinated me.
My favorite movie as a child was Hocus Pocus, I saw something in that, that others didn't. I was obsessed with witches and recall that I used to attempt my own 'incantations' around a tire swing with flowers from the yard.
As I got older, I began researching Witchcraft, it's origins and any religions that held any affiliation with Witchcraft.
For me, I've always felt it was deep rooted. I've looked over many books, but what it came down to was, every spell I made up on my own, seemed to come full circle.
Personally I believe that magic can not only be taught, and studied through books, but it can also be something from within oneself.
I agree with InfernalImage..It is something that is inside of You, something that happens and You learn each and every day..I happen to found a Mentor who enjoys teaching me as i enjoy learning..
Always had a fondness for it and now i have found the One to teach me..
I agree with infernalmage, although i have been able to practise since I was 8, i tend to follow the same guidelines that Infernalmage seems to follow.
Research, Cast, Find out how and why it worked, understand, cast again, watch the results.
yes while some is hereditary, some of it is also learned from other dirrections. Never be too sure of yourself or it'll come back and bite you though
I agree with mener. Its part an inbourn connection as others have said. But its not worth a pot to piss in if your not intelligent enough to move past the herritage angle. I have know many who don't have it inbourn and learned it, and are better then those who claim it in blood.
Blood is only part of it. You have to strive for it. Above all else, if you have it you should learn it.
I like many have been at it since i was very young. about 5 or 6 years old. Learning more on it every day.
but there many ways of looking at that also...some may not have known it was inside them until later, such as me..And Shane has and is teaching me if you do not believe and put your all in it, it wont work..also be careful and not go against nature..Be right in what you are doing so it doesnt come back and bite your ass harder..
There are many who can teach magicks, and I am sure you will find a mentor when you really are ready to learn glenn.
Good luck with it.
Mener
I agree with Mener on that...I wasnt looking but He was there waiting for me..He is awesome and i have learned alot from Him and different ppl
There is only so much a teacher can provide.
It is really better to learn magicks on ones own, and talking to peers about what they learned. Not following one stricture over another, as the flavor of magick varies from person to person. One has to find like person to their own energies in order for someone to successfully learn.
Trial and error.
Mostly from books and from my social circle.
Have any of you ever heard of a form of willpower magic? That is how I learned. There are no ceremonies involved, except for the awakening. I learned about my immense amount of blood magick through someone very close to me and everything spiraled from there.
Kage
A lot of people in our position would call that one of two things......either psychic powers (mind over matter) or chaos magick. I prefer the latter being a minion of chaos myself.
I don't know too much about chaos magick, but I do know about psychic powers, which it is not.
A focusing of energy to enhance a characteristic, ability, or strength of an individual is what I consider to be chaos magic.
I consider what I do to something completely different, though it most likely has a name. It requires a great deal of concentration and a strong will. I have seen herbs and such used in chaos magic before, that I know. I believe what I do would be considered more spiritual than physical.
So, none of you amazon'd for books i see? Well, maybe one or two you, interesting though. Thank you for your thoughts :)
When I was knee high to a grasshopper, my cat taught me. Some will understand.
That's cool billy. I was taught by a spectre of sorts LOL.
I was lucky I had teachers and mentors along with the help of spirits of old witchs, warlock, magicien, and entity gifts in th eart
My father is a Witch, and so he was the one who introduced it to me. He taught me the basics and is still the one I go to when I am unsure about something. Other than him, I am learning on my own through research and experience.
I really do not know magick, i know about spell casting, i guess that is a form of magick, and i learned by reading and doing that is the only way you can learn...
First thing... to those of you who have posted replies in here there is no k in the word magic
Secondly you can learn magic it's not all heredity if you can do things from birth and that's the only way then you will never need any tools or incantations
Now for my views on this subject...
I have read many books and have had members of my family who were well known in their respected magical field that have helped a lot in my practitioning growth. As far as I know, I am the first member of my family to be on the path of Druidry so there is a lot that I am learning there from my Arch Druid. You can learn a lot from others just be sure that it is someone that you respect and know to be truthful.
To me having a Mentor is helpful alot..He sends me things, lessons and such..Never a moment we dont talk about some kind of ritual..
With Shane and reading and watching, i have learned alot more than i ever thought i would..So having a Guide, Mentor is better for me
lol! depends ^_~ do u mean staged tricks/ or spells? lol
well magic i learned from my father!!! ^_~ and my friend
and Magick was learned to me by a couple of female elders with in my family as well as a few friends!! ^_~
I am talking spells and rituals...I know the difference myself
what about the higher level of control that comes with the aplication of the currents which spells and rituals generate, as well as those of rites to a greater precision then what has been written about in every book since the writing of the three books of occult philosophy?
innate ability, i just had to be awakened to the realization of what i was to tap the powers.
the few powers i wasn't born with took very little time to study and refine, studying the items i needed for spells to understand their attributes was more or less the battle for actually "learning" magic
I first learned Magick by the hands of my friend Maranda... We first started working with protection spells...
Mostly from books for me but my mom has started teaching me some too.
Inheritance of genes, and study of books, scrolls and other paraphernalia.
CemertaryClown, there is a K in magick. It is how alot of wiccan authors tell it from vegas style stage magic.
the -k was started by crowley. His Magick book 4 gives proper discourse on its nature as to the ascendancy of the soul that has achieved the ability to make their will made flesh.
I believe that it is an innate abilty that you must awaken and that comes with time.
I grew up with it in my life as certain members of my family were wiccan. I learned thru lots of studying and observation. I found books that were very helpful and wrote down everything so I could keep it all in my mind. Since I love to write I always use my own spells. Seems more effective that way for me at least.
i studied from books, seen from friends and watched fromshows
I learned from friends, but mostly I researched and studied and observed others. From there I adapted my own ways of casting.
My Grand Mothers taught me,they said I was born with it in me.
KA
I studied with family members and Coven I belong too locally… and it is an on-going learning, growing, using, process. One that I strive to perfect and too someday.
Most of all I know about magick came to me before birth, I can recall watching over my mother before I was born. I was taught by a medicine woman, and also A shaman about
Native magick, but they don't like to call it that because to some tribes witches are still considered back luck.
I found a book left by the stone circle out the back of our house, all my friends were saying don’t mess with magic and what not….
It was a book of shadows ….i found the owner a day or two latter And she became my teacher
the question i have is..how can one know if that person is a witch or not....but that person loves to learn abouy magic everyday?
i first started threw my grandmother as magic has been in my fam for quight some time
i got into it when i watched the movie "Practical Magic." My dad's girlfriend was a witch and i got a lot of stuff from her. i also found a really good REAL magic site called luckymojo.com. i also did it with a few of my friends until i moved away from las vegas.
I studied it with my brother and picked up random bits of knowledge along the road, then studied bits of info myself, from other people and Internet, etc.
Learned of it from my dad. Picked it up myself and started working to build it on my own.
Can I supliment this question?
I understand that most here who claim magic say they learned it. yet I have also read that there as those who a wilders or those who do magic without giving any thought to it. Seduction etc (IMO) is a kind of magic. Like being attracted to someone not just because of physical beauty but something deeper without having the benefit of talking with them. It is just the way they carry themselves and some je ne sais qua
Hmmm, maybe magic is just simply a form of molding the unseen forces around you to create trhe outcome you want. In that i guess you can be naturally born to do that.
OMG!! I used to have this wonderful book that had so many interesting things about magic. *cries* I lost it many years ago. I can't even remember the name of it. That's where I learned about magic. Then I continued my studies with other books.
Can't really say that I've learned it yet. I'm still in the beginning stages and I will mostly now be learning from a coven that I am in. I have found some natural ability in the past that has only continued to grow over the past year and a half. So I just go from there and will continue to build and learn.
I was given my beginning in a Covenant of Unitarian Universalist Pagan Studies (CUUPS) group class in a Unitarian Universalist (UU) church. From that beginning, I have researched, studied, meditated, and from this work created spells, rituals, and herbal mixtures for my personal use. Learning magick like any other intellectual endeavor is a never ending journey with no end or definite destination.
anything that i have learned about magick i either learned from people who are into it or books i have read on the subject.
for some its in the blood, meaning your born with it but not matter all must study the craft, it is not for dabblers..so dont play around with it.. study and study hard..I have a girl in my coven who studied for 3 years before she cast her 1st spell
for some of use it is an inherited gift that sometimes lays dormant until we feel something different when that inner power finally awakens. When we begin to exploring and read about hings the mind opens up and we begin to discover what potential we have inside of us.
I have never really found anyone that is responsible to teach me.
My initial impression of magick was negative since I was raised in a very, very strict, Christian household.
Once I got away from that and began to explore other options, I found my first experience with magick - Wicca - to be extremely disappointing, hokey, and just as dogmatic as Christianity. Not judging. It's just my thing. However, I did read the books on the topic that were available to me as well as the many sites that are popular in that community, and learned a lot of things that are somewhat "canon" in that particular magickal community.
I was very vaguely introduced to Chaos Magick, Thelema, and Satanism around the same time, pried enough theoretical information from my attractive source, and then continued to fill my brains with stuffs from tehs amasin books by the likes of Josh Wetzel, Peter Carroll, Frater U.:D.:, Aleister Crowley, A.O.Spare, Phil Hine, the guys from disinfo and the like.
I really never had or suggested that anyone else "teach" me, nor did I really "learn," beyond the basic concepts of reading information and absorbing it for reference, inspiration, or use at a later date. It was an icredibly individual experience with emphasis placed on my own creativity, desire, intuition, discipline, and preference. I decided and pondered what it was I needed or wanted or would like to accomplish out of my various activities and pursuits, and I used my researching and academic skills to learn what I needed, and then the rest was inspired, creative, passionate gobbledegook manifested in my actions and results.
So I'm pretty sure the experience is - hopefully - a little different for everyone.
its also something to practice, unless the gift is with you already, i am into spell craft more then anything... i feel the spells i do come for me because i belive in it and my mind powers are strong
past down through the generations of women in our family.
I basically learned magick from books and through people that i know who has experience in magick and spell casting and i have learned a few things online...
I read a lot of really old books passed on to my by my grandmother when she passed away. I also did some of my own research online and at different libraries.
Takes practice time and effort
Just because someone has access to a family tradtion, or has been taught one or two spells that doesn't make them able to rightfully claim a title or say honestly they have learned all the fundimentals.
Its one thing to have some great ancestor who left a book or wrote books for their family.....They were the only one qualified for the title unless each and every member of the line studied, and added their advancement of the work itself. Anyone who relies solely off of what has been done by others is no better then a child playing dress up with his mommy or daddys cloths calling him or herself an adult.
I studied and asked guestions. I joined a coven and they have been a great help. I am still learning. No one will ever know there is to know.
through a friend,
through books,
practice
coven
practice
well for starts I was Born in to it, and after that My Mother and O'Ma made sure I was taught all that they could, but most of it just come to Me, a wish or a simple spell and it always works, but I leave the Magick to the Goddess of the Night and just make My wishes and Wants known... but most of it is a very easy to control
I learned from my grandmother, the best witch in the world. (yeah, I'm proud.) I loved her so much and she explained everything i needed to know.
i was born with it but i also studied very hard to control what i was given
it's in you ... always has been.
it's like tapping into a great unknown a vast mind if you will.
same questions and answers.
I only tryed What they call cardian magic. It' s were you can take a card that has something on it like any type of monster. Summon it by saying a few simple magic words or phrases. The monster jumps off the card and comes to life. Then all you half to do to control it is give it a command or a series of commands.
Magic is something you dont learn but you except and most of time it comes natural to want to know other forces for me i have a long line witchess so my mother and some great aunts so when the time came when i started realizing the person i was it ws wasy to pick were they left off
