Regression is based on hypnosis where the person receiving this treatment will go back in time to an age that they may have lived before, a sort of juxtaposition if you like.
Past life regression is an exciting trip into your own past lives, unlocking doors in your mind that open other worlds, worlds that were yours in another time.
A case study involved an teenager speaking in a dialect of Welsh which was over 400 years old and not only is it not used at all now but to speak it with such fluency as was demonstrated you would have needed a lifetime of study, the girl in question was 15. She was able to also describe the layout of the land at that time which could only be partially proven.
Historically the facts can be checked and crossed referenced especially if the person has regressed into a public figure.
Taking this a step further let me introduce you to the woman who 'self-regressed' and became pregnant in her past life. In her normal life she also had all the symptoms of a pregnancy and on the night that she regressed and gave birth people living in the flat downstairs could hear a new born babies cries.
There are countless other stories and this phenomenon has baffled psychologists time and again.

So is it all in the mind? are these people looking for there 15 minuets of fame?
I find this very interesting and would love to hear your views and if any of you have either self-regressed or even been regressed clinically regressed.

Interesting.

Perhaps not the result of 15 mins. of fame, but some would use any means they could, but this is a very interesting procedure. I would say recommended for anyone who is doing any current path working. One must reconcile their past before they have growth,

If this is fr 15 minutes of fame I think that I would find somehing better to do then this...
Maybe psycological problems?
I am not saying that we dont have past lives, I believe that we all have them...but why bring that life into the life that we have now?

And how did those people in the flat below know:
a. it was a real baby, and not a tape ...
b. it was a newborn baby
c. ...

You get the idea. Same with speaking welsh...

There's a lot of assumption in these stories. Too much for my liking.

The welch speaker I would believe, even in my sleep without the use of hypnosis...The wife comments that I always use a sort of romanian dialect with fluencies.

On the other hand, the baby episode...I hardly believe this one to be true, as it is to farfetched...These should be on that show of truth or fiction...With that William Ryker fellow as the host.

Dragonrouge -- interesting that you should mention that, in my research I came across an article which said that regression and its involvement was in fact the opposite to 'karma' and was needed to restore balance.......but thats for another time.

It seems to me there are too many variables that are unprovable and/or unprobable. A newborn does sound different than an older baby..but many don't know the difference..so how did the people upstairs? As for the dialect-how do they know she was speaking it fluently? If it hasn't been in use for such a period there is no way to know for sure.

I've had glimpses of my past lives, and I believe regression would give me a clearer idea of what actually happened, maybe an insight into lives I've not experienced yet.

DevilsConcubine -- yes it is interesting and there are some specialist clinics that teach you how to self-regress

DixieChic -- I think that with that case study they had an expert present and recorded her whilst being regressed. As for the baby crying, I'm as skeptical as the next.

This is one of my favorite subjects.

Everything is based on theory and assumptions and personal experiences

Not sure if this will make sense.....

I do believe in reincarnation and when that happens things are always brought forward with the next life.....to better help move forward. I don't find it odd to have recollection of being some place or speaking or understanding a language that in this current life you have never experienced.
I would think that sure some people are trying to grab that 15 mins. but, there are many others whom are truely experiencing it.
I have had what I call 'flashbacks'..... and I can't say that anyone around me has ever experience my flashback with me...

Im not sure that someone else would be able to hear a baby crying.....that is odd

I believe it is very much true....They say that everyone's brain has a part in which your entire history through evolution is stored....Regressive therapy helps one to tap into it...When the human body is amazing enough for one to do Astral projection, spontaneous human combustion, energy manipulation and a lot others i wonder why people doubt this?
The human body is a fascinating vehicle for our minds. There are various things which we haven't found out and maybe we never will...That doesn't mean it cannot exist...Only time will tell i suppose....

An excellent thread....if i may say so...

I am curious about the girl that spoke Welch. I guess they must have recorded what she was saying. I would think that it would be difficult to get someone to identify much less give an opinion of fluency on a dialect like that. Unless they recorded it and had it analyzed maybe. I don't know.

If you really do want an excellent read, then I can recommend a novel by Barbara Erskine called 'The Lady of Hay'. I will state that this book is fiction, but I would also like to add that her work is based on actual events and real people. Her research for this book has lead her to regress to. It's this book that lead me to more research.

i tried it once. i found a subject who was very susceptible to hypnosis, and regressed her to a time in the 18th century where she was a young apprentice blacksmith. she actually sounded like a young man, and completely lost her Scottish accent (something Sean Connery has never achieved in all his years as an actor).

I have read 'lady of Hay' and enjoyed it, I'm just reading a book by a guy who lives locally called

'Phoenix Immortal', the writer Ian West believes he was once Lady Jane Grey.

I think there is a good reason most of us forget our past lives....which is that we need to focus on this one.

Not so sure of people doing this kind of thing for 15 minutes of fame and to go to the extent of this ... and for it to be a Child doing it and having the intellect of the Ancient Language nah i dont think it was a Ploy for fame but Yes so many a time people are quick to not believe as it has never happened to themselves and so they are either afraid to look into their Own past lives.. or have looked and are ashamed and or embarressed ...

I fully believe in reincarnation, when i was a kid i was obsessed with Swizerland and would draw pic's of houses, historically accurate costumes etc when i was 2 yrs old ( i was told this by my parents) i also spoke a few words in a foriegn language which i assume was Swiss. Also when i was 11 i went on a school trip to the french alps and was passing through a small french village and i recognised the village streets, church etc even though it was my first trip to france. (i told this story on a previous thread).

As for the baby crying part, that does seem very odd, but i'm not ruling anything out. Weird things happen.

Regression has been suggested for years. Bridey Murphy I believe was and early supposed incarnation.
It may or may not be. But the same theory and practice has been used to get children to remember things that never occurred in really nasty divorce cases. So, if it exists it is not always what it appears to be. It is dependent upon the person overseeing the regression. A person can use it create his or her own version of reality through another. There must be standards in place to guarantee it's validity.

we had a Television program on here recently about a young boy of about 8 who was obsessed with an area on one of the Scottish Islands.
The TV crew and researches quizzed him and took him to the area he was describing and he was so accurate about things he'd seen it was so eerie. He even knew of a building that wasn't there any more and its colour and this was confirmed with further research.

Hello BLOODLIFE,

Umm, regression and believing what you are seeing while in hypnosis is fascinating because I have experienced it in both forms.

I am a fully qualified in Clinical, and Advanced Hypnotherapy.

You will never be stuck in hypnosis, it is impossible. I don't know if you are aware that for years Buddhist monks have been trying to do that.

As I have experienced the pleasure of hypnosis, and have myself been reluctant to come out of hypnosis, I can fully understand why a small minority of clients find it hard to terminate their trance. However, as you will not be asleep, merely in an altered state of mind, your subconscious mind will be more alert, and anytime you want to come out of your(trance) I like to call it a dream like state, you simply wake up after only a few minutes.

Self hypnosis is in a way a form of self meditation! We all can do this. Well unless your IQ is less than 70%

Try this.

Look in a mirror, gaze into it and don't blink, now allow your eyes to un-focus as you still look into the mirror. That's right, after you read this just try it! You'll find it works, just remember to lose your focus *(your conscious mind) and watch your face starting to change to....well after a short time you will see it's like looking at a cave man (or woman if women try this)

*Let your eyes lose their focus and their vision drift away

Well obviously if you want to try regression once you get to this stage in the trance you use your self control and visualise the image that you are seeing growing larger and larger...learn to relax and let go when you do this. It may take a few attempts but It can be done! Once you can master this you then need to step into the image..Thats right, step into it, and just allow your subconscious mind to guide you into what ever direction you want to go. : )

I have done the past life regression therepy once as I won a session when I was in Virgina, I don't remember much of it at all and the session was taped and given to me, but i can't find it anywhere to listen to it, and in this day I don't own a tape player anymore, it's all CD players...but who knows, I do know that in another thread I posted that I do recall having seen someplace in 14th century France and I was waiting on a bridge for someone and I was dressed in a velvet purple dress in a way like a duchess in those day would dress. I don't recall much after that tho.

I believe what everyone is saying and this is why. People are always saying that without a past you have no future. They do not just mean learning past history but also learning about your past life. Everyone has a past life or the world would be empty by now. Our lives are like laundry. We wear them for a while, wash them 50 thousand times and when they get all torn up and destroyed, we throw them away and get new ones. That is why I believe that everyone has had more than one life. I mean, people tend not to believe in things like this because they are usually afraid of what they cannot grasp and understand. That is just the way that life goes unfortunatly

Theban - that's very interesting. I've even read that the use of music now plays an integral part in self-regression. The problem that was found with this was that the self-conscious mind would relate to that piece of music and people would just go into a state of hypnosis willy nilly.

Vampireadrian - I can see where this subject and reincarnation can be mixed up, but the two have no connection that has been proven as yet.

The concept that regression is bad for you is misled. It can be upsetting for the client yes, we call this an abreaction. Allowing the client to feel the abreaction enables them to feel the emotion of a situation in their early life that is causing issues in their adult life. In some cases the clients will have no abreaction though and thus will not be upsetting for them.

It is the same for past life regression, some of the clients will come across an issue in their past life which affects their present life. Treating them involves them confronting and understanding the issue which is why emotions can run high!

Yes BLOODLIFE, music can be used for hypnosis and works very well with most people. That said though, no words in the music unless the words are that of the therapist. So something like soft gentle pipe music or the sounds of nature are used. Certain tones can also be used, but I tend just to use either music or just my voice.

Oh and that boy that you have mentioned, I watched that program as well. It was fascinating!

The therapist has to abide by a strict Code of Conduct where anything that he or she does is reportable to the organisations that they belong to. Oh and guess what, if they don't belong to one then don't use them.

Regression is not dangerous, again Hollywood and narrow mindlessness rears it's ugly head!

As in all walks of life their are charlatans, so if you decide to use a therapist, check up on them first!

i do believe in past lives and if someone wants to know about them, i recommend a regression. There are people who take this seriously. Psychiatrists, for example.

as i said, i once found a particularly receptive subject, but i did have trouble getting her back. she was having marital problems at the time, so was probably reluctant to return to a life and time that she wanted to escape from. when she seemed stuck in her own childhood, i made the mistake of telling her to come forward as far as she could - she did. i accidentally progressed her to eight years in her own future. she could not progress beyond that point. eventually i was able to get her back to her proper time and place and waken her. i studied up more and discovered a book by a writer named Dunne called "an experiment with time", in which the author had also experimented with progression.

the danger with any sort of hypnosis is obvious, as we unlock doors that regress the person, we have to make sure those 'doors dont slam behind us.
Its why i say it should be done clinically by an expert.

i quite agree - this is not some parlour game or party trick. it should be done under controlled conditions by experienced professionals that know what to do should anything go wrong.

Interesting topic.

I feel that hypnosis is based on interpretation, and is guided more by suggestion than anything else. Maybe I am wrong though.

this is based on the fact that a person has to belive in reincarnation, I do belive in it and I belive you can with the proper instructor to see those past lives

I remember my uncle telling me about this tape he had...The tape contained certain chants and a slow southing music and was meant for hypnosis for past life regression...I did listen to it...I closed my eyes and started concentrating on the voice and music on the tape. After some time i could see this bright orange light inside me and i could actually feel the warmness of a bright sunny day...I started going deeper and deeper into this light and i could feel all my limbs going weak....It was very relaxing...But then my cousin came and woke me up...Damn...I couldn't finish the entire process...I still dont know if i was undergoing past life regression or whether it was plain old hypnosis?

Actually Karnstein,
It has been used as a parlor game and party trick...It's what some stage hypnotists do!
As I mentioned before you cannot be stuck in hypnosis, at most the client will take a few minutes to come around.
For the inexperienced or unqualified this may seem like a lifetime!
Choice of words used in hypnosis/hypnotheraphy/regression are very important and quite simply put, 'If you don't know what you are doing then don't do it'*smiles*
Do you see what it is I'm trying to say here? It's not regression that is dangerous, but the choice of words used to guide that person/client into regression that can be harmful.
Something else that I obviously need to make clear. You will not do anything in hypnosis that is against your morals. To put it bluntly, if I asked you for your bank details (while in hypnosis) and you thought 'No, I don't want to give them because it's wrong, then you wouldn't'
jagee7, yes suggestion by the therapist and the interpretation of that suggestion by the client play a big role in hypnotherapy. Which is why other techniques are used along side hypnotherapy.

I did a past life regression once...it seemed to work, but it was an odd experience. After thinking about it for a little while, I realized that the person who did it, more or less just led me into a story, and my imagination filled in the rest. I don't know if I believe in past life regression or not...I'd have to try it again with someone more qualified to do it.

It would seem that some of you are still confusing regression with reincarnation.
My understanding of reincarnation is you could have even been an animal in a previous life, a form of transmigration. But thats where it stays - in the past, albeit its argued you may have flash backs.
Regression is about finding that previous life and living it again in the present tense but under hypnosis.

I believe we see past lives through our spirits, they are memories from out spirit of their lives lived in other bodies at other times
