I’ve noticed that people aren’t really rating the quality of a profile, they are simply giving people 10s for showing up. I’m not going to tell people how to rate another’s profile but I would like people to consider rating the profiles in relation to its content, rather then its existence.

i give ppl a 10 if they've just signed up... otherwise others who have been here a while, i will rate according to the effort they've put in with a consideration of the time they have spent....

i post according to how clever they are, intelligent and how down to earth they are...if they are personable. i will not give a 10 merely because they are here. some people obviously put alot of thought into what they show us all. ;)

When I tend to view profiles if it intrigues me and makes me laugh it's an automatic 10 if not I don't rate it

Regular users, I rate accordingly depending how good the profile is.

New users, I tend to rate a 6 for starters and re-rate them later when I review their profile.

Re-rating is a good way to let the others show that they have indeed imporved thier profile as well.

That's how I go about it.

No real content, my vote reflects that.

Believe it or not I do read everyones profile, if there is a portfolio I'll read and rate it too (if there is anything in it) and I'll even go read someones jouranal if they've got my attention, and I will genuinly (sp?) rate it by how I feel. Even though my comment for the most part will say the same, I will try to add something to it based on the individul's profile...

In conjunction...I did have a forum post questioning as to why people only rated profiles...Please, for eveyone's sake, if they have a portfolio...please take the time to review it and rate that as well, we work hard to let everyone know about us what we'd like to share...

i rate ppl's profile based on content and quality of the content, if its worth it i'll give a ten...if not then i will the profile it true rating and post my comment

i dont simply rate a ten just because.

i give allmost nobody a ten unless there profile is really cool and interesting. otherwise i really rate people at how there profile is

well most should rate according to amount of content and yes litterally how cool it is.... hell most people put more writing then I did myself... I rated myself at a 6
and the re-rate option is very nice cuz some people have recived very low low scores for having squat in there ... and now that they've gone back its nice to be able to go back and rerate them!

I rate everyone a 10 just because! When I have the time to go back and read it and totally get into the profile and portfolio, I will rate to how I feel about them and what they had to say.

That's just it, if y'r throwing out rates just to boost y'r rank...then you (and I don't mean anyone in particular) are not being fair to those who take the time to create their profiles/portfolio's...nor to those who ARE taking the time to read and get to know the members and then rate them...I may not rate but 5 or 10 some nights but at least I've gone through and taken the time too read their pages to get to know them better....and no...so noone says it...I don't think I or my pages are better then anyone else....alot of people have asked me after seeing my starting date and what level I am, how I got so high so quickly...I simply took the time...granted my time and used it wisely when I couldn't sleep...I didn't run around rating just to move up...

i think the majority of time i first psent here was working on my profile, i must of spent.. 50 hrs on it alone, so i tend to rate profiles, with that in mind.. and rate the acordinly.. Time spent * Graphics * Interest * Originality * Bite factor = Rating..

I agree with most if it strikes me as intresting its a 10. I even score it high if it didnt keep my intrest. Goes with the saying "A for effort". Only the ones that reak of RPG or saying they will kill you and drain your body of your soul get below a 5 from me.

i rate according to the content on the profile as well. Upon reading a profile, i expect to atleast grasp a sense of what that person is like. If a profile is bland and leaves a bitter taste in my mouth, i will rate it accordingly. I do tend to go back and see if updates have been made so that i can rerate.

some profiles are so nonsensical

they say " i love timmy"

and that's it. They deprve us of information about themselves. ( which defeats the purpose of a profile)

Wow ok it’s been a while for me and all the new pretty faces :P. I rate a profile according to its content if its short and sweet or long and descriptive if I can understand what is being taught about that person threw there profile then its a 10 but if I look at it and its all ick and I feel like I wasted my time then its lower then a 5.

Well that's reassuring..rate high if you like the profile..

i do give out 10's if i feel they are deserved... i pay attention to the overall profile and if it catches my interest that doesn't neccesarily mean i'll rate it a 10 but it will get a good rating... i rate according to how that profile reaches out to me ... and yes Deity i am with ya on that whole bitter taste in the mouth thing with some profiles... i just shake my head on those types of profiles but i usually check back ok them later to see if they've improved or not :P

I personally try at this point to only rate new. I have rated older before but thats really next on my list lol, When i myself have more time invested. I give a number but i dont critique in words to new profiles. I simply greet in my own way, but i do rate fairly

i rate profiles if its interesting or relates to my own. and i know its lame that other profiles give breif description.

We should hunt down and drain these imposters that rate ~10~ and really give a 6/7.. drain them of their blood and throw them to the pigs.....

i rated my friends and family 10's and everyone else has been rated bye profiles

I rate 10 for the newcomers, for luck and whatnot, then I rate other profiles based off of how many times I read it. Once is never good, it means there was nothing there to keep my short attention span. Anything above is great, means I'll bite you sooner or later. If I haven't bitten you yet...don't worry, I'm working on it...

Oh and the whole ::gives a 10:: thing....honesty is the best rating, so why not give what you say you did...?

I rate profiles by my scale.To get a 10 you realy have to have extraordinary pro and pics and to have some caracteristic that draw my atention... we have to be realistic... if not, the whole rating thing has no point!

And i have just discovered Photobucket... i have been doing it the hardest way from day one!!!!.. how do you think i feel... *ggrrr......* thankfully i have photobucket now.. *cries* if anyone wants to add pics to their porofile,.. get photobucket (google search) and learn HTMl from the start then it's plain sailing

i rate fwends and famialy 10 and i rate everyone else depending on there porfile but not including the quizes that people put in

i rate on the content solely

I've also rated by prof. dtyle and info. Its tuff to get a 10 from me, but there r ppl here that have gotten tham from me. ^_^

I think people rate pictyres mostly, and dont realy care about rating...my profile has been rated 15 times before I have entered any kind of data about me...:-)

That's not necessarily true...most of the time people will rate and welcome the others and then come back and rerate someones profile when new things are added...they just may not post a new comment

I try bring honest about my ratings.. ok sometimes I refrain from rating as to give some time to the person to get his/her profile properly updated, at other time I mention my critism politely, but when I see good profiles I rate them accordingly..my conscience is clean on this matter :)

I rarely give tens, in fact I doubt I have given more than about ten of them, but do like to welcome everyone to the site, as it helped me feel welcome when I joined. However, I dont think someone should be awarded a ten for showing up, and profiles should be rated accordingly; on intelligence, effort and attitude....and Im now sounding like one of my lecturers... *Echo pipes down* x

I think that just because a person joins the site, doen't mean they should get an automatic 10 .. don't people understand how much the rating really do effect other peoples .. people who take time even when they first join to put something in their profile deserve a good rate, but for those giving 10's just because some one logged on and created a profile that says I'll add more later .. why not taek 10 or 15 mintues to tell at least SOMETHING about y'r self...

i hinestly rate by what i think, i read i like, i rate well. when i say 10 it means i gave u a 10. Ppl who say they gave u a 10 but really didn't are defiently no kool grr!

I often rate a 10. I know that my profile is full of quizzes but to me that is the best way to get to know me. This way you get inside my head and just what I want you to "see". Maybe this doesn't make since to any of you why I do this but I have a low self-esteem so I don't put much that I wrote about me there. I have opened up a bit more and added pictures and even a poem and other things. And as far as all the fancy stuff I can't do that but to me just cause you can do it doesn't mean that your gonna get a high rating..

OK I had my say.

I read through the whole profile and if I like what I see, you get a rate accordingly.. and by the way Daire, I looked at yours a couple days ago and thought it was great.
Same as your portfolio.. great pics.

I only give ratings depending on the quality of their profile. If it is just a bunch of quiz results and nothing else they don't get very high ratings. But if the profile has substance it gets a higher rating. (duh)
I don't think it really matters what people give eachother many people here are just generous.

i try to be nice to the people here to make them feal welcome but some people jsut dont deserve 10s they make an acount and put nothing in there pros suck and are a waste of space

If you're wondering why someone would say in a comment they've rated you a 10 when they really haven't, it's because they are hoping you will go to their profile and rate them a 10.

That is another thing. It's rather sad when people do those things to only benefit themselves. It's an interesting way to meet people but for Gods sake sometimes I wish people would stop being so selfish. -.-

well i rate people truthfully even if they just started and then when they add more contentand i like it i would rate it again

I have rated a grand total of 9 people with 10's
I rate according to quality.....intellect apparent, creativity...and yes i'm shallow.. attractiveness

I gave some tens to starters, but only If they made quite interesting and nice profile at the beggining.
and other profiles...It really depends on my feelings from that profile....Some of them are nice but cold. I must admit that here are only few ten pros. And I can surely say that the pro like Darknessbound has "touched my heart"

I know I've had a say, but I'd just like to ask people to think of this .. sya you rate someone a 10, and they don't have much if anything in their profile .. then when they have more time to spare, and have thought of more to add or change to their profile, they take the time to update, sometimes this take alot of time and effort. Espcially if they are being creative. Now you look at their profile and you think it's really really good, you want to re rate them, you've already given them a 10, so what more can you give them? You can change y'r comment, but you can't change y'r rate, 10 is as high as it goes .. what do you do then???? Which is why I will rate lower and leave a comment requesting more information or something of the sort, then 90% of the time, a person will message me one way or another saying hi and letting me know they've made soem changes to their profile; then I'll go look at their profile again and re rate them, since I haven't given them an automatic 10 it leaves me options to go back several times, the more they change or add to it ...

Just a thought ...

i give someone a 10 if their profile desearves it. the more time and effort you put into it the better off it is usually.

Well I don't always vote in the profile, sometimes I wait and come back then vote later. *shrugs* It all works out in the end. I like to try to comment on exactly what I liked or didn't quite like. I try not to just say "nice profile" all the time and then just rate them. A lot of times though if their profile doesn't have much I'm just like, "hi welcome, nice profile blah blah blah" rate them and leave. I try to be polite but many of these profiles have wonderful pictures and really good descriptions or short stories. But like I said I don't put much in my profile, i figure if people really want to know what I'm like they'll go to my journal or something. hee hee

If after reading a profile, I feel that I somewhat know little about the person, then the profile has served its function. Lotsa stuff, intelligent quotes, bizzare pictures are only icing on the cake, and ought not compell one to rate it higher. Gut level content is what I rate.
