If the Dark Lord (Lucifer) Lives Forever,
Then What Does He Live For?
What drives the immortal to to endure immortality. What do you live for?
Death to be honest lol. I haven't quite figured out what I'm living for.
He lives on because of those who fear him. He lives for fear and death and as long as there is death and fear in the world he will live on.
*sigh*
If you're immortal that means you can't die, it also means you don't have a choice but to "endure".
Humans live for 70-80-100 years, what do we live for? Who cares, we don't have a choice.
Tomorrow will come and you will wake up, same with any immortal. Kinda common sense.
^Agreed.
They live to live, just like the rest of us. Not many have a reason to live besides that. It is a rare thing.
For me, I live to die, enjoying all the pain and fleet triumphs that come with it.
I imagine it would be better than normal as at least they don't have to look for wrinkles or grey hair, an immortal can just enjoy life to the fullest, especially an indestructible/invincible immortal as not only do they have the eternal youth and unlimited life span that comes will immortality, but those types cannot be killed at all....courtesy of invincibility.
Point is, unlike humans, such a creature will live to THE most fullest as they would have nothing to fear and all the time in the world. They do not need a reason to live though i find having goals can keep one sane and well, not bored to death but mindless fun and chaos has perks too.
but back to the point of the topic, what does the old friend devil live for? well no one can answer that since there are so many versions of him that one cannot nail down a personality to deduce a pattern for reasons of living.
if one goes by the annoying bible, then he lives for chaos, freedom and rebellion or as the Christians say: Evil, destruction and to tempt mankind, well they say tomatoes and i say... well something else.
Sin is life and living life is sin as i like to say. If you ain't enjoying life then you are not living it correctly, one needs to loosen up, break a few rules and indulge in life's pleasures. You see, it is not the devil you should be worrying about, it is your own reasons for living that you should question.
The Morning Star if you believe in that mytho's rules over legions of Fallen Angels. He is the ruler of the 9 gates of Hell and beyond. He commands legions of those Fallen Angels through lieutenants and generals. He lives for the souls of all human kind.
I think he has a pretty good excuse why he is who and what he is and what he may live for (if, "living" is to be the term used)
What do I live for? I don't think I will answer that one on this forum...
SS, you rarely "answer" anything ever, sooo mysterious I bet.
And last I checked the "9 Gates" were a total fabrication, pulled out of Dante's butt.
If sin is life then what's the point of living? Pleasure is not sin, sex is not sin, enjoying good food ain't sin and if you think that's what the Bible says you need to read it again. It's the intentions and motivations behind actions that are sins and the willful ignorance of virtues, purposeful lack of restraint etc.
Last I checked life was full of non-sins like charity, love, being kind, and so forth.
Anyway, I stick by my answer that who cares what "he" lives for, he ain't got a choice.
heh i was just mocking the bible Xavier and how they view those that live life to fullest, to live that life to the fullest and to indulge in everything would be sin in the bible and in the eyes of christians thus i simply say: sin is life and living life is sin because i find it very amusing how tight-assed bible bashers are and how they like to deprive people of the pleasures of the world.
I don't acknowledge the existence of a god or the devil, they are just lower level myths to me. what i know exists is order and chaos, good and evil, kindness and cruelty. etc
but my point stands, one should care about their own reasons for living and asking themselves have they truly lived at all?
I already gave small explanation on how a devil could live but with so many religions and versions which paint him in different way, there could many different ways that he could live.
Better to ask what does evil live for, because that i can answer and in many ways. Well actually that would depend on the evil itself but i will say it could and can exist simply to be the opposite of good, to cause chaos to upset order, to cause change to an oppressed world, to thin the population and simply just to be evil.
Well mocking isn't really the most adult thing to do but I've mocked things a few times myself.
Saying to live life to the fullest equals indulging in all things shows a flaw in your understanding of living life. You're placing your own desires as the "optimum" for all people and quit frankly it's more the minimum that you're suggesting. I can live life to the fullest and smoke $700 of crack a day, that'll end my "full" life quick.
Indulging in all things is the fastest way to toss out your life, never mind any spiritual punishments or rewards. And to further say "well obviously it's not good to destroy your life" (which many would say) only goes to show that you have your own understanding of good and evil, right and wrong which would place it under the "opinion" category and opinions are only worth the benefits they offer.
If by chance you don't think it's "bad" for someone to OD on drugs then you simply don't care about the lives of others or the worth of life itself and are hardly the person anyone should listen to.
Unless I've missed something I think I've given the only 2 answers to "indulging". If it's bad to literally indulge in everything or do whatever you want then it means there is some form of right and wrong and that by indulging you are actively committing a wrong....kinda makes the Bible a little less silly don't it?
Of course i don't care and there is no flaw, it just depends on how you look at it and define it but you're were close, just no cigar as i meant living life to fullest as doing whatever one wants without fear of consequence etc but it's up to the individual on how they do it. Either they do it lightly and take their time or go on a rampage with drugs, sex and murder and all that other good stuff. if one dies during it, then that does not mean they did not live life to the fullest, just they did not live for long and one dies happy then who cares. A long life span is not always good and full of happiness (trust me on that)
As for my mocking, well that is aimed at the more...unstable christians (bible-bashers) as i don't care or mind about others religious beliefs but those crazies or shout in the middle of the street just are annoying.
I believe the Dark Lord greatest attainment would be to be a reflection of His children.
The 9 gates maybe a, "fabrication"... but, how do you explain the Necronomicon and the goetiatic incantation(s)? 7 Angels, 7 demons guarding the those 9 gates to the, "road less traveled"?
Gives this audience something to think about... and Dante's works are amazing poetic pieces.
The necronomincon was a fabrication made by HP Lovecraft.
Which was then used in evil dead, quite droll although it is entertaining.
The Dark Lord's desires for going on would be to undo goodness, harvest souls or test mankind depending on who you ask. I say mankind needs no testing or tempting, they self-destruct well enough on their own....though it wouldn't hurt if they decided to have more "fun" every now and again, humanity is very stuffy and boring at times.
Well assuming he exists, i'd say he is living for nothing. what does the devil do? collect souls? war with a god? play a game with god on who get's most souls? tempt humans? make deals? well which everyone you believe he does is what he lives for.
I belive he exsists though what he lives for I do not know but considering he has legions of fallen angels to contend with he causes chaos and temptation and what ever else he may choose to do.
As for me i choose to live a life of adventure traveling and seeing the good, the bad and who knows what else although doing what I want is a good thing considering how repressed some of us are in this world.
also I don't consider doing what you want as evil I think it depends on what it is if you do illict drugs then you are more than likely to kill yourself or even others however for myself I prefer to live for the day doing the things I love such as reading, writing, listening to music as well as going to school in the fall as well as being the best i can be not for anyone but myself.
though the christian faith and all their dogma makes it all the more fun to do certian sins lol it doesn't matter human nature always goes tward his darkest nature but the christian church calls having sexual relationships wrong if we didn't have sex the human species would die out and be no more we also have a need for food drink clothes and shelter my question is that so wrong to have those things and by what choice does humanity have against the dark lord so to speak that we all may choose to destroy ourselves. And what does god and the saints have to say about humanity's need for things that we all need does god have the right to deny humanity the right not just to survive but to thrive but i guess the church thinks we all have to give everything up as for me I think certian things that the church and their affilates should look at is our basic needs not just survival on spirtual texts which tell us that the end of the world is coming but should tell us how we can survive as a species I mean come on who doesn't want to survive
Well humans are like cockroaches, they always find ways to survive.
...to keep messing with the other side...the good. Hey....is just for fun that those two have been trying to control all the humans from the beginning of time. Is more like a game of chess for them..and we are the pieces.
He stands for all that is dark and painful. He seduces, he lures, he laughs. Once he has got you, he lifts his veil. Oh, the joy he derives from doing so. He lives for this. His own pleasure.
I'm not sure what or even why the Devil would do whatever it is a demon does. Seem pointless to guess on the devil's deeds anyway.
What I will say is that by definition to be immortal is to be more than mortal... beyond death. This doesn't mean that because you are an immortal that you can't die... it simply means that death is not the final.
Secondly - Everyone sees the world through there own eyes. Your perspective on life, your environment, and even the passage of time is uniquely yours. The difference between 2 days and 2 decades is measured on the scale by which you perceive the passage of that time. To someone that is immortal a decade could seem like a day.
Lastly - Is the why... Ask yourself why do you get up every day and get out of bed or go to work... why do anything at all??
The answer will be because you need to in order to enjoy the parts of life that make it worth living. You do these things because life contains something which motivates you to continue.
Sure every era has some level of doom and gloom but if all you see is teen pregnancy, war, oppression, and death than it's because that is the perspective you wish to see. Every life time has something that the generation before it did not. Look at the technical advancements of the last 100 years and tell me you don't enjoy going to the movies, listening to music, talking to a friends on the phone, flying to a city you've always wanted to visit. There are a million reasons to live from today into tomorrow, and tomorrow I'll have 2 million reasons to live into the next day. The perspective that immortaily is some how a curse is false. Immortality is the greatest of all gifts... and anyone who is really immortal would understand that.
I agree with Severus imortality is the greatest gift and that we all have reasons for living wether the human race are coch roaches or not I think if we all look at what we do each and everyday it does give it meaning. As for immortality I think it depends on what you would do or not do either by day or night I honestly don't know what the dark lord does but he probally has his reasons for whatever he chooses to do just like we all do. I think the rebellion of the dark lord as trying to be equal to god reflects that we all want to be equal wether we are male or female regardless of what people may think. I also think when god created man it was out of his benevolence and as for the dark lord we were made out of his evil. Regardless it does seem like a game of chess or checkers where the human race is pieces of the game wether we choose gods path or the dark lords is all up to us. And we all may take sides from one time to another regardless. All of us may chose light or we may choose darkness it all depends on the soul type we have in our bodies and we choose our path but that doesn't mean one is better than the other but it is what it is
I live to serve, please and love my boyfriend, maybe someday my husband and he also may be my child's father. We'll know for sure in two or three weeks!
Why would you want "serve" anyone, least of all your boyfriend? i may not know much about love and all that other weak crap but relationships are supposed to be equal and thus no one in the relationship should have to serve anyone.
Anyway back to the point, immortals would tend to view life in a different manner, having all the time in the world allows one to be very patient, however, immortal does not mean you cannot be killed or die as some silly sods like to believe, indestructible and invincible means you cannot be killed, immortality just means age, disease and other "natural" things cease to be a threat or even matter.
Haha, love is weak? That's rich. Then again you did say you didn't know much about it so you probably aren't someone to listen to.
A relationship is equal in that both people are serving each other in different aspects for their mutual benefit and growth.
Nothing wrong with serving, just don't want that to be your only purpose in life. Tis unwise.
Love is a weakness, hurt one, you can hurt the other or better yet you can use one to make the other do what you want, of course this depends on how much love there is between the humans.
Because you're not a human? Mkayyyyyy
Love is no more a weakness than blind hate a strength.
Moving on.
Personally, I think the dark lord is not the right person to discuss here, he is just a minion of a greater evil.
He live for the whims of chaos because that is what his boss wants. Then again, how do you define chaos. It is the opposite of order. Anything that will upset the balance of order is good for him. He fights all organized religion, yes that means satanism as well. It is organized, have you read their rules? Seriously, they are so similar to the rules of god, it makes me wonder why I was ever a christian at one time. Ok babbling, I will get off my religion soap box.
of course i'm human, what else would i be? i just don't like other humans and i almost always just call them by their species name or sometimes talking monkeys, puppets etc.
Anyway love is still a weakness in my view and the only time i like it is when it can be dangerous and unhinged.
of course lust is so much better, why bother getting to know someone when you can just use them for what you need, and if one has a conscience they can just tell them they want a one night stand, although there is no point in telling.
Now chaos is something that is taken for granted a little too much, in fact a lot of humans already complain about oppression. There just needs to be a little...anarchy.
dont really believe in lucifer...ive read too much biblical history for that i fear.
were he real, id think he endures because his end plan is to rule heaven.
as for an "immortal" mortal, id think they would live to learn new things, and have new experiences. once someone got bored enough, they could always try for a sun tan.
~W~
~ChalinaShay~... do enlighten this audience as to whom you think is a greater evil the Lu-ci-fer.
Got that name wrong SS lol
Yes it is interesting to see who is stronger than the prince of darkness though that title pretty much implies there could be be a king of darkness.
I honestly don't think it matters if there is a king of hell or whatever place that is considered hell. I think what we nned to look at is what Lucifer actually lives for or if he really exsists which i honestly do beliveve he does from an experience I personally had with a spirit talking bored a few years ago where a bunch of friends were messing arounnd and some very frighting things happened. We were at starbucks after a night of being out and at the time one of my friends worked there we were sitting there waitting for my friend to get off of work we were drinking different drinks when all of a sudden i felt this burning sensation on my arm the next moment i actually had a bright red burn in the shape of a hand on my arm and nobody had touched me and the next thing i know we were freaking out. Another experience I had after that fact my boyfriend and myself and i think one more of my friends were in the car we were talking while my boyfriend was driving and we were headed to tgifridays when his car literally stopped in the intersection after the red light apperad and suddenly his car shut down right in the middle of the intersection cars were headed twards us and my boyfriends car at the time would not start back up until the last moment we don't know what happened but after that fact we were pretty shaken up. So I honestly beliveve he exsist not just for chaos but for harm as well
Actually I didn't get the name wrong. the correct pronunciation of Lucifer is Lu-ci-fer. broken down it literally translates from old Latin into Enochian, "Son of the Morning". Latin, "Angel of Light) Hence, Lucis.
I was talking about you incorrectly spelling a members name wrong SS, you got the S and C backwards. >:)
So you having you car stall at an intersection makes you believe that the dark lord did it? ha yeah i can just imagine it "hmm i think i will just randomly break down a car because the two random souls in it are worth more than i can get from a war or gang wars" No offence but i doubt you and you partner would be worth it, assuming of course he exists. Though the pattern is chaotic.
Did you check the engine, oil etc or put the gears right?
Just reread what you said vamp87, ouija boards are usually something humans are warned against using due to the stories and superstition, i find the red hand print is interesting. What was the reason behind using the board and what was it that getting contacted?
how stereotypical. >:P
There likely is more to it than that, as going after power can get boring after a while and death is just a natural end to all things, not really something to live for though causing it would indeed be amusing.
One needs more than two things to keep going forever, although i guess it depends on the individual's taste.
What he lives for, well lets see he led a failed rebellion and according to the Book of Job he gets his marching orders or at least approval to do what he does from the king of heaven so I would say now he lives for being a puppet that takes all the blame. If I was to draw a comparison to something we can all relate to he would be the gun everyone blames for what the man who pulls the trigger actually does. Or the hand that the brain commands take your pick.
I’m no expert in religious dogma but I thought the Devil was a fallen angel aka The Fallen One and he basically lives to tempt the ‘innocent’ down the dark path and away from his arch enemy God.
As what do I live for, well considering we all live anyway unless we commit suicide which I have no intention of doing and I would not advocate it to anyone as there is always another path I live to learn and grow and to be basically better than I am at the moment, whether that be intellectually or spiritually is my choice.
The Dark Lord, Satan, whatever you want to call him... he lives forever for one reason only... he is eternally damned to never again see the face of God. It is a punishment worse than death.
Just my opinion. Save your anti-preaching. :)
The Anti Christ, Lucifer lives to build on his followers he lives through his followers he exists because of them just as The Christ, Jesus lives. My questions is do they really live or do they simply exist? to everything it has a balance an opposite.
-TheWhiteRabbit
As in the band or Satan?
Above anything else I think we need to live firstly for ourselves.
@whiterabbit How can they exist without living? Are you implying that they are inanimate objects?
There are many many stories of several deities getting together just to bet on their own followers and play games. I think living for so long might make me like that. You'd get too bored to do anything else. And if you're to believe everything said about Lucifer, that's pretty much what he does anyway. Gets off on fucking with people's lives. *shrugs* I don't personally believe in it but that's what I'm told anyway.
If I were given the gist of immortality, it would be to watch the world change, evolve, to see mankind explore other world. To see the beauty that one cannot see in a singe lifetime.
Some wrote: "The Anti Christ, Lucifer". If I am correct, and he told me so, Lucifer is NOT the Antichrist. Complete two different persons.
If I am correct (and I believe I am)...The antichrist is (or will be) a man that is possessed by Lucifer.
Of course to get the grand scope of everything, anyone who purposely goes against the will of God is considered to have the spirit of antichrist...
Just what I have gathered from the information I have...
If the Dark Lord Lives Forever, Then What Does He Live For?
Let's see...collecting souls, partyin', stiring up shit with The Lord, partyin', lookin' good, seducin' women and men, partyin', creatin' and namin' new drinks after himself...etc etc etc.
(It's all this puny human mind can come up with, for now. I actually think many of the replies here were great, by the way).
If you insist on calling the "dark lord" Lucifer then I am going to assume you mean it in biblical terms. Lucifer was thrown out of heaven for loving God above man and refusing to acknowledge man or however you;d like to interpret THAT.
Lucifer is cast out and then determined to prove God's faith in man unwarranted by leading them into temptation. He is not doing it for kicks, he's doing it for revenge and to prove a point.
Through his efforts to "poison" mankind, he is trying to validate himself in God's eyes. Lucifer's struggles in hell and on earth are manifestations of the identity crisis his creator incited.
God created free will, yes, but not in his angels. Lucifer is trapped by that concept because he rebelled and he supposedly does not have free will. Which means God wanted him to rebel and be cast into hell.
Lucifer lives to be validated as an individual entity by his creator.
Then again, who believes in the bible?
The Dark Lord or Lucifer lives to create chaos and temptation, he will make deals to get souls, however if you make a deal with him will he honour that deal.
Depends on how one defines "dark lord" Hitler is immortalized through his infamous actions and so is every serial killer and "evil" dictator.
However, I do not care for the bible or religion so my answer is that is it's irrelevant. Do you ask a shark why it attacks? no, it is just wired that way. If evil is evil then it is supposed to be evil and lives just for that.
If one is immortal and cannot be killed then one does not need a reason to live for something because it simply as no choice but to live.
Well the idea of a Lucifer is a misinterpretation of a verse in Isaiah which doesn't mean what is being said about it. There is no Lucifer. As for a Dark Lord I don't think I believe in that except in fiction ala Harry Potter. Since I don't believe in this I have to go to the mythos created by those that created the ideology behind this being and I guess that is to oneup God. Get people to come on down to his way of thinking and then gloat over it. Get control of peoples minds, thoughts and money...POWER, CONTROL. Other than that I don't think about it because I don't believe in the existence of this being but I do believe that man can be reckless and it is their own decision to be this way by making bad choices. We are all born and then we die and angels were killed in battle so if he existed at all and was originally an angel he/she/it could be killed.
He lives because he has to live being a immortal you lose one freedom, the choice between life and death. "There comes a time for every vampire when the idea of eternity becomes momentarily unbearable" -Lestat
For all we know Lucifer could be sitting in a corner trying to kill himself or trying to sleep forever for an illusion of death, immortality is only fun for so long.
We live because we must, not because we wish. A mortal can choose to die, but an immortal can never die. We have nothing to live for unless we decide that something is worth living for. We don't choose our lives, and neither did Lucifer. He may hate where he is, or he may like it, but the truth is, he can't really do anything about it. If you were and immortal, what would you live for. What do you live for right now. Very few people know why.
To answer one of the members above's posts there is no true choice in life or death, you do not choose to be born and neither can you stop death from coming, you can only choose to speed up the inevitable.
Lucifer isn't a dark lord. His Satan side is though. Lucifer was the pretty one, the light one. Maybe he lives immortal looking for something or someone to bring about a balance in his existence. What better reason to live if not for love? :)
I'm not to good on the whole subject but I figure they live to hurt others, see their pain, and so forth. But if they are a good kind of immortal then it's different.
