There's been some complaining about members rating other members profile low. I don't really know what anyone expects me to do about it. Any action I take would contradict the rating system I set up.

A member can rate another member any way they like.

A few of you have found out, that once you hit the top list, your rating crumbles... That's called competition. Now that Administrators are no longer in the Top Rated category, the category is a more fair listing.

Finally, some of you know that I am working on a new feature set: Premium Memberships. One of the features for Premium Members will be to see who has rated you what. So for those of you out there who are acting falsely, consider this a warning. Premium Members will soon be able to see how you've rated them.

I will not yet answer any questions about the upcoming Premium Memberships.

Cancer, just wanted to let you know that I think the Rave is great and getting better and better.

People should rate others as they want to be rated....and not rate low just to get rid of competition.

yeah i agree with u on that. personally i dont care what people rate me sure its nice but still i could care less. im not complaining im happy with everything.

I totally agree. If you don't like the fact that your profile is rated low then do something about it. Many of the members have taken time to make thier profile what it is. If you dont take the time then expect a low rating. You get what you put in.

And too that, why don't people rate accordingly, I'm sorry but I dont' think a person deserves a ~10~ just for logging on and creating an account here and saying "Fuck you if you don't like it too bad" gee that takes alot of creativity. I know everyone has their own ideas for rating, but as it's been said, there are many people who work long hard hours to make their profiles what they are. The reason their rates fluxate (sp?) so much is the added memebers and the high ratings given to everyone, so it's going to change y'r rating. Please be realistic in y'r ratings.

Yes, I was wondering that as well. AND, I agree, please rate profiles accordingly. I hope that people are not offended when I don't rate them a 10 for a 1 rated profile, when they have rated me higher. I put much thought into mine, much effort. I just want to be fair when it comes to all of that. *smile* ♥ ♀

i think everybody deserves a 10 and i have never rated anybody low so far. i don't really care about the ratings so much as i do about getting to know people.

shouldnt ones be the highest and tens the lowest....since everyone wants to be #1????

I think thats a super idea.. well knowing who rated what. At least it will achieve a sense of 'who is genuine or not' if nothing else.

If it was a matter of just rating *low* that would be grand, everyone has a choice of what to rate, but what I think most people are complaining about is the deliberate bombing of someone's profile to try to prevent them from attaining a high score.

In monitoring this event, and thinking in those terms... yes I agree a Premium Membership would be very nifty. :)

I'm not part of the Rave to get good ratings. I'm here cos i love it.

I understand most humans have an A complex (haveing to be out in front ... ya see it driving) so the thriving sensation to be #1 is understandable .... but why not rate according to content .... if they have pictures .. worded content .. rate by how much they have ... if they have NOTHING give them nothing or a 1 and move on *shrugs* no big deal.

After a while of being here I belvie everyone gives up checking there rating lol .. it is indeed amusing at first .. but then it seems more important to get your status up.

I know websites arent cheap and easy to maintain .. hence why I'll be aquiring one of those memberships (even if I haveta show up in person on Cancer's doorstep with money lmao!!!)

it's thier choice to rate, and e rated. So if it's a low rating and your that concerned then take the time to update your profile

Different rifts in conversation also cause lower scores as the day itself progresses.

DarknessBound, in your first post to this thread, I don't know what you are asking.

There's a lot of things about the site you guys don't take into consideration. I know the workings of VR are complex (I wrote it all!), but I have made all information available except requirements for Status advancement.

Profile ratings are like Status, updated once per hour.. But not updated at the same time (it's a different script). I left a backdoor though. If you click on the 'all comments' page to a profile, it will show that person's rating, in real-time. At least for now...

Now let me provide an example that I am sure many of you have overlooked. The weight of a person's rating is directly proportional to the rater's Status level. This also means that the weight of a rater's ratings will increase as their Status increases.

So let's say a Whelp signs up and gives all the Administrators 1's. A month later that Whelp is now a Fiend (10). Those 1's are now worth 10 times what they were a month ago.

Every time ratings are re-computed, the rater's Status is looked at. This makes it IMPOSSIBLE to know who has 'changed' their rating on your profile. Many of you think you can figure this out... You can't.

if people rate low just to get higher in the levels that is them but I think it is stupid and you should be honest about what you rate other people

I agree with PhoenixTempest, this is a marvellous site and if anything the prospect of Premium Membership really intueges me, and I will definately sign up (if I can afford it!)

I dont understand why people lie about what they rate, I dont tell people what I rate as it seems a bit base to just type in a number, I would rather talk to the person about their profile, instead of these identicle 'welcome' messages.

I suppose its something for people to whinge about :-S

I like the fact of not knowing what people rated me. To be honest, I really don't care if someone likes my profile or dosen't like it. It makes me feel good to see the comments or how people react to it. but its not the most important thing.

The one problem I can forsee happening with people being able to see what others rated them, is going and seeing who rated what and basing thier opinion on the number and not the quality of the profile. I really hope that dosen't happen.
But alas this is much like the world and even tho the site is "perfect" not everyone is and people will do what they choose to do.

I truly, fully understand the time/effort and to the extent complexity of the rating sysyem. I acknowledge the fact that a person/s with higer status can cause some serious profile damaging, so their buddy stays at the top... Cancer: I think what DB is asking is this ... someone new joins, you look at their profile and there is bearly anything there, so you rate them a 3, after a week or so they take the time to update their profile and add pictures and everything, so you decide that they deserve a higher rate then the 3 you gave them and give them an 8.

Does this now count a another rate on thier profile? so now instead of 75 raters they have 76 (you being two of them) or does it just changed your orginal rate and just repost it? And on the same token does this change the persons over all rating?

If you change a rating, it just changes the rating value.. Not the number of times rated.

the secret 3rd option doesn't really work here, as you have to rate profiles to go up in level.

Some people just don't have things to say about themselves, some have lots, to each their own, rate how you like, it doesn't impact your rank, just where you are in The Top.

i give the rate at the time i go back later to see changes if they made them i re -rate them. I feel its a fair way. Some people have put alot of time in there profile others have not and it shows. The ones that start by your F**k get a very low score,

I have to say in honest truth... I love every evolution cycle this site has been through, and I can't wait to see more. Glad to be here.

What I don't understand is why you would want to know who rated what. You should just be thankful that someone took the time to look and rate your profile. I don't think that information should be open to anyone. As stated by Cancer, the rating changes value as a person's status increases.

So why you want to know except to maybe go back and rate that person low or high.

I myself have rated anywhere from 1's to 10's and I don't normally tell someone what I rated them, but when asked, I do.

So try asking and you may get a response.

or something else that's just been copied and pasted. seemingly just to get a higher status

Ish not my fault...I always give them a 6 or higher....depending on how much stuff htey have to put in their profile to begin with...

I rate on what they have in there profile.If you have stuff there I give you a good score.But if there is nothing you get a 1.But I do go back and look at the profiles that I gave a 1 to and if they have added things then I rerate them.

Just remember, not everyone who says ~10~ actually gave a ten, like most (even myself with my greeting) have made a greeting and the paste it in rather then type something everytime. Some that do that also add a line or two extra depending on what they see. I do that. But not everyone that puts ~10~ really does.

If you can't put a nice comment on someone's profile them don't. I really don't need to have a negative comment, that is just uncalled for. As I stated in my first post, rate other as you want to be rated. I guess I should have said rate and comment.

i must say that i didnt join the rave for the ratings. i joined because there are people here that have the same interest that i have. im not going to lie, i do find it cool when i have a really high ranking in the profile rank, but if i dont, i dont care, thats not, in my opinion, the point of this site. if people dont like it, then this isnt the site for them

You are correct demonschild66669. With all this moaning and whinning about ratings, how are you meeting new people. Also, I rate by what I see and what I read. Yeah, I have read every word of every profile. There are some that are awesome and some that are boring. So again I ask, Why would you want to know who rated you what? And why you moaning about having a low rating. And futhermore, most of you that are moaning have high ratings anyway. So what is the problem?

i agree Phoenix, if u don't have anything nice to say dont't say anything. I wouldn't want to see anything negative, if i see a profile i dont like i rate it low and leave a comment suggesting how to make it better. I'd like to help them not make them feel bad for a crappy profile!

I have spent over 100+ hrs building mine.. I know exactly what it takes to build a profile.. I had to learn html, from scratch.. i have put a crazy amount of effort into it. SO i can understand why people can get a little pissed off, when they find they are being rated unjustly. But, like it has been said, the main reason for thissite, is to educate people and to learn.. learn and learn again.. Also, i wouldl ike to point out, since i joined it has helped me to help otehr people and have inspired many.. this is the greatest satisfaction/feeling ever.. I am very happy to be a member of this truly wonderful site.. and i will end with a comment i got left recently... to sum it all up.

i agree... people do complain a lot about getting a low rating.. it's not the fact that we don't like them, it's just some don't make a profile, and it's just blank, i try and be fair and not give them 1's, or anything below a 4... i at least give a 5 for nothing in a profile at all.. that's how i see things..

I think negative comments on profiles are useless besides the " please tell us more info" or " we want to know more about you" comments. Some people dont know how to do html codes. Even just being able to copy and paste them into a profile confuses them.. ( it used to me until I had a cheesy web t.v. P.O.S. IF you can learn on one of those, you can learn on anything!)

I rate very fair. I don't want to see the typical lines of ( mind you this being the only thing on the profile)

The profiles that you can see passion in are very interesting. I love reading them. They are very interesting. Some don't even have to have pics, just the words they use to take you to thier world capture me.

Well, we're meandering from the topic a bit here.

We're not talking about fairness. There are people that rate my profile a 1. If you rate my profile a 1, you're out of your tree. There is no reason in the universe I should get that rating. But I do. I'm not saying this as the creator of Vampire Rave. I'm saying this as the creator of Cancer's profile.

That being said, people can rate however they want... And soon, Premium Members will be able to see if certain users are lambasting them without cause.

I was adding things and making it look fantasic ..*giggles* and okay okay i will admit it i forgot to save it elsewhere ..*slaps forehead* i clicked on 'Submit Changes'...the server could not be found, i refreshed and GONE!!!!! ....I was cross...still no matter i will do it all again ..but better this time ..muahahaha....

My point I think is that I now have no profile to rate ...but I had to vent a little and so here seemed like the most appropriate thread ..lol

There have been a lot of server issues today. I'm working on fixes.

Cancer, great work.. Would it be possible to maybe have the option of only rating 7+ for the profiles that deserve it? i realize there's a hell of alot of members and checking each one would take many hours, but surely your trusted admin ccould do it for you? i doubt that would be possible..there are far too many profiles to revise. This would turn to a tyranny over whos profiles are deemed worthy of a 7+ and whos are not. It might ignite serious problems.

this issue is everywhere, ive seen it on yourvoid.com and vampirefreaks.com, its eaiser here to have a lower rateing since there is not that many ppl here as like yourvoid and so there shouldnt be anycomplaning, besides its not that important that you get the top list, its jus a list that is to tell who is supposedly the "best" things change and no one stays on the list, everyone is important...

I can see everyones point in this discussion. personally i could care less what others think about my profile.. i put info there so people can get to know things about me. i myself cannot rate anyone below a 5. one thing i am not sure of is this. is it correct that if your rated low then your status doesnt go up.. if so then i believe the rating system has a fault. i love vampire rave, but it should not be a popularity contest. ai went through enough of that in school.. i came here because i felt welcome. a place i could go and not be judged. isnt ratin judging? i also love that right now there are no fees for membership.. i wouldnt want to know what others rate me as anyways.. sounds like drama would be the result.. There is NO web community that has a rating system like Vampire Rave. This is because there is no web community that has a Status System like Vampire Rave. The weight of a rating is directly proportional to the raters level. Hense Whelp votes count very little... And this of course, offsets rating fraud.

Excuse but are you bothering in the first place... my humble opinion sometimes you have to keep a step back and let the system flow albeit the complains... the Rating system works marvellously as it is I can assure you... to add a note theres another thread run by Elly which regards Profiles... so the equation come square, Better profiles = Better Ratings period.

Oh, I have no intentions of changing the ratings system whatsoever.
