I would like to hear the members opinion when it comes to homosexuality and bisexuality. I know what the books say, becuase I've read most of them. But I would like to hear what your personal and philosophical thoughts are around this subject.

Why do you think gay people are here?
What is their mission and purpose?

You have worded things so that it sounds like people who prefer the same sex are somehow different from everyone else, and anyone with the 'open-mind' that you seek for thread participation, know only too well that this isnt true.

Were all people, but if people insist on all this pigeon-holing and labelling, then the world wont change in regards to descrimination.

how bout this:

heterosexual people have been reproducing too much. homosexuality is an effort to put a "check" in place...to allow sexual gratification with a partner and without the risk of reproduction,
additionally, it can work as a safeguard, so that if heterosexual couples over-did the child-bearing thing, heterosexual couples could pitch in on the child-rearing

Good answer... I feel included by the way you responded, I myself am a homosexual so I know what I'm talking about when it comes to feel included or not.

What I mean to achieve with this is to make people think about homosexuality... I know that I am like anyone else, and I'm not trying to separate gays and straights.

I'm hoping people will try to open their minds and accept what is. And sometimes both gay and straight feel they need to see a purpose in homosexuality, like they do in anything else... Like love and peace, war and death...

It's not unatural for people to seek a meaning and purpose in things, it's actually very common. It's what makes us want to learn and move forward to understanding this world we live in. I myself, growing up in a non-accepting family, felt I had to have a purpose like anyone else...
Also did many of my friends...

When we find a REASON for things being the way they are we tend to accept them more easily and LEARN about it at the same time.

Mind your own business

Takes care of religion, sex, as well as everything else.

If it is not harming another consenting adult you neither need to know about it nor think about it.

Do not push your beliefs on others and they do not push on you.

for the first time ever i think i agree with mslefaye... i do not think gay people have a mission, other than the mission that all living creatures have.

i was just taking the question as meaning to find a biological or practical-design explanation for homosexuality...

I hate it when people try to make a scientific argument against homosexuality being natural by saying that "sex is for reproduction, so sex with a member of your own sex doesn't make biological sense."
There are plenty of biological explanations for homosexuality.

basically my opinion goes, i try to stay open minded enough that if i really wanted to have sex with another guy i would....i'm heterosexual, but what's that really matter. why do we feel the need to classify everything. it doesnt matter what you are. if you take away the stigma that religions have placed on homosexuality, then no one would care, but unfortunatly things like predjudice get passed on from generation to generation....and from george bush to george bush....so the chance of us having a "truly free" america any time soon is slim to none.

well there are manythings that will arise from this forumn as long as we don't insert political and religious view points i think they will let it stay open. I believe what my psychology teacher say that some of us are born like the wrong sex and somtimes if a person is goign to be born a hermaphrodite the parent is forced to decide a sex for them and give the kid hormones. because of those occurances we have that and no its not a sickness and so on there are those who also choose to be gays and lesbians. there is also a mental aspect as well.

Its just another Form of Love, like some people love Corpses...Or others Blood....

there are a few ways to look at this.....
scientifically speaking.....we are a biological computer programmed for specific things.....and I hate to be the one to point this out...but from a purely scientific aspect...homosexuality would be a bug in the program so to speak.....
on the other side....it may be a biological program designed to limit our reproductive rate...we would not be the only animal with this....many animals have things such as this when they begin to overpopulate.....
personally I have no issue with this however......as I do not beleive in pure science....we are not advanced enough to say we know the answers yet scientifically.....
as to the meaning.....and purpose.....

Homosexuals have the exact same purpose on this world as straight people they are here to find love,friends, and have familys. their is no big differance between homosexuals and breeders except for their choice in partners. well..i think that one of the interesting / important / valid aspects of the question, lies in that people who are against gay rights like to insist that it's an unnatural practice and must be by choice or by error because homosexual sex serves no reproductive purpose...

if you really feel strongly that gay people are on the same ground as straight people and should be treated as such, then it's important to give the issue some thought and consider the "book" side and the "scientific" side..so that you can effectively counter-argue. if the attempting repressors are going to try to use a biological argument, we have to be ready to counter it...which can easily be done if you know a little *more* science.

most people posting seem to feel very strongly about the issue and about how it shouldnt even be an issue...but it obviously is (i mean...dammit...we can't even let gay people get married...) and arguments strictly along the lines of "it's right and i dont need any proof because i just KNOW that all people are equal" wont cut it with someone who's going to argue back...

For Me, Straight/Gay/Bi is a term (label) used to help others identify something about us. Love doesn't work in terms of labels.

I strongly disagree with homosexuality. I don't believe in it because of course, i believe in the bible, but i would never put someone down for being gay or bi. i have a lot of freinds who are gay and bi, and i don't really have a problem with it, i just don't believe in it. As for why there here and what there mission is I honestly don't know. I don't really think anyone was born gay. God made us to love the opposite sex, not the same.

We all are here for the same reasons. To love, to enjoy life, to figure out our own personal reansons for being here.. so on and so forth. I don't look at a gay person and say, " I know thier purpse for being here is because they like the same sex and there is some other reason behind that." So what if someone likes the same gender. What they do behind closed doors shouldn't be anyone's business but thier own. If you aren't in there then don't worry about what they do. You don't have to watch it. Love is love no matter what way you slice it. I myself have been into a few same gender relationshps. I cared about the person for who they were not what equipment they had. I don't think there is some hidden truth as to why they are people like that like same sex. Its like trying to find the truth in some of those tabloid magazines..lol. Each person has a different purpose of being here on this earth. Some know thiers, some don't. I don't think its based on sexuality.


I do have a small issue when the " I don't think people are born gay" theory. ( and yes people have a right to thier own opinions) but, think of it this way. If a person is beating violently because they are gay and almost killed, made fun of, tormented, disowned, so on and so forth, why would they choose to like the same gender. I have seen most of this done. I have been the one person that gays/lesibans feel comfortable around because I do not judge and love them for who they are. It's a sad thing to watch someone be ridiculed for it. Why would they choose that lifestyle? I admire those who are true to thier self and honest with who they are.

I do not limit life by what gender to love... my only limit in life is the day I close my eyes for the final time.

I think my opinion is going to be a little helpful for once..

If you belive in god, even a little bit, you will understand that we are his puppets and he is our master, he gives us a "choice" when the truth is that we decide what he wants us to decide all the way from the beginning..

As simple as that, that's how god has his misterious ways.. he pulls all the cables in the gameplace from the beginning to the end, that's why he is the alfa and the omega..

But truly regarding this subject.. we don't offend him at any point by being gay/lesbian, because:

1. he mades all the decisions from scratch

All i know is that im straight because that's MY preference, and i do agree that love doesn't have boundaries but i don't see myself falling for a chick. I believe a man and a woman are supposed to be together because that's reproductively correct. I dont have a problem with bi's, gays or whatever. Evolutionarily (sp) speaking.... Homosexuality is a good idea...it helps to keep the population at a level where it does not go nuts and explode everywhere..if ya get me :)....It is a natural occurance and should be embraced as such...I have no idea why people would have an issue with Homosexuality...I think it is great how two people can meet and desire to be with each other...love is love and lust is lust...we all experience it.... we all need it ....so why would it matter where it comes from?

And besides all of that ....I prefer to go shopping with a gay guy over a straight guy anyday ...~giggles~....never been shopping with a Lesbian ...I will have to try that sometime...lol

Unfortunately, we try to find purpose in things that may or may not have any rhyme or reason. They just occur. Homosexuality is another one of those things--as well as heterosexuality and bisexuality. However, purpose seems to be the one thing in life that so many wish to possess. Unfortunately, purpose can only be found by each individual and is of little use to others who have not come up with that purpose.

My best advice would be to find purpose in your own sexuality and go with it. Unfortunately, it is not a very good response but it is the best that I can offer.

I wouldnt say there issome special purpose in it. Its just like that.
i saw one document that it seems that the thing which is "responsible" for our sexual orientation is one little spot on our back brain.
If its larger- men ussually have it larger, we are attracted to female. If its smaller- women have it small, we are attracted to men.

i don't know why people make such a big deal of homosexuality.

it has lasted for centuries.
it's not a new concept.

there are always going to be same-sex relationships.

we don't question why the majority of people are heterosexual.
