They say vampire are murderous killing machines. That they thrive to cause others pain. Some think that thier the most dangerous and yet attractive ones.My question is "How do you judge something you`ve never seen or met before?" They say that to become a vampire you have to bitten or trade blood so-to-speak. Most say you have to be born that way. A few people go and get thier teeth sharpened and pretend to be creatures of the night. They say that once a vampire you live as the un-dead for all eternity but the if thats true how can they be turned to dust with the strike of a stake in the heart. The heart that is no longer beating. They say that a vampires full power amplifies when the full moon is out. That they can disapear into the shadows, control time, and have superb speed that enable them to walk up walls.
They sometimes say vampire have clans and catagories. Each one with thier own powers. Its also said there are mostly loner vampires as well. Its stated that the garlic has no effect but others say differently. Some add crosses only work for those with have unbreakable faith such as a priest. Which in itself is rare for isn`t everyone the least bit hypocritical about what they say they fully belive in.A couple even belive in the olden beliefs that vampires shapesift into bats or have wings.
Everyone belive something different. Everyone views things in thier own ways.Everyone enterprets a book ,a bible ,a movie basically anything, in thier own way.
Are you one of the ones that belive with all your heart or with logic? Which of the belief is yours? Or like me do you only belive what you can see? Do go with just faith and what is what you were brought up to belive? Maybe you just like the mystery of it all as I do? What`s your view on vampirism? What`s your interption of it all?
Myths,Hollywood etc...those are the reasons.
No I don't go with what I was taught in nothing not only vampires.Cause I choose what to belive not others.
My belief is that vampires are normal poeple with a condition.
My beliefs are based all around the stuff that I thought of and stuff brought to me through the forums. First off I would lilke to say I don't believe in anything media related. This includes shapeshifting and mirrors. My belief is the fact that each vampire is a person with an extended ability of being a predatory animal feeding off either the energy from blood or from mind.
I am what I am, and that is all that I can be. Myths and legends play no part, besides to spread rumors of what I'm not.
they`re a complex "problem" to discuss..... but still...., I think that everything that morons (let`s call them that.....) say, isn`t true....
in time my dear you will come to see the differance between projected myth and spoken word,
very nice post all up cheers
i don't believe all the hype in books and movies, but i do believe that there are things out there.things that have no explanation happen all the time and they are labeled a freak accident or no one can explain why or how it happened. Creatures of myth and legend have never really been proved or disproved. So whos to say they didn't exsist or still do exsist. This is a truly a question that doesn't really have an answer. It's all what you believe. Great topic.
Yes, indeed, very good topic. Especially for someone so new.
As I become more and more knowledgeable about my own condition, I learn more and more how to distinguish fact from fiction. Most of what you see in movies and books are just that: fiction.
Everything has it's basis in fact, but from that little bit of fact stories are spun and stretched until that original bit of fact is lost in the web of lies told.
Fear, misunderstanding, and Hollywood has given vamps a screwed up image that will probably never be clarified.... We are humans with slightly different needs and points of views compared to the mainstream "normal" humans. Nothing more.... Never-the-less, very good post!!!
hollywood make us look like mindless killer's, i am what i am
i trust totally that as directed through our literary fictions and our movie screens that their is indeed a vampire sub society behind our own.
As Anne Rice dictates from the point of her character Marius, i believe that there is a continous consciousness out there , i feel it sometimes watching and doubtless others have felt such a feeling.
I often call out to such a creature as a vampire with my mind, almost a prayer asking them /him/her to come to me and i welcome them............. if there is such a being i believe wholeheartedly that it will come for me so i welcome it with my projections. whether it'll decide to kill me or to let me join it i dont know..
..at least i will die truly knowing.
we are what we are and we are misunderstood and overlooked
some of us are born into darkness at a young age , some older. some have a condition where they need bloods energy to sustain a balance , like if they dont drink it has a mono type effect.but dont forget the supernatural elements that go along with it, everyone born into darkness has a "dark gift". not all know what it is. they have to find out for themselves. like anything it takes patience and practice. for example witchdoctors are known to morph into animals, some vamps can make themselves invisible through meditation, or contacting the afterlife through different methods, tarrot, phychic, ex. the hollywood myths have nothing on the real religious practices of the dedicated"dark children".
I know for me the things I have 100% knowledge and faith in are things I have experienced. I keep an open mind tho and do not disbelieve others or what they have done or believe. For each of us this life is different and because I have not lived your life does that mean it is not as real as mine? To you it is just as my life is not as real to you as yours is. ok... am I losing the plot here???
Better post before I get myself even more confused!
i know very little about vampires. i cant see myself ever being one. But with the information here i could learn pretty quick
Taking folklore into account, those vampires are soulless, remorseless killers who, either willingly or not, have returned from the grave to prey on the living. And for the most part, there's not much left of free will. Tey're just motivated by a thirst.
The vampires today aren't supernatural creatures. It's more of a sub-culture. And everyone I've met, no matter which kind is different. I don't see how anyone can group them together without first getting to know more than what Hollywood portrays.
I think a lot of peope judge from the media, and take that to be attributes to be taken into the self.
I think its ridiculous to see humans as cattle, and not to see yourself as a human... but there are a lot of different schools of thought.
Good question, SingMySoul. In my first novel ("Lianna's Children"), I deal with this same question. In fact, it's sort of a moral undertone that flows beneath the whole story...is one evil because of who or what one is, or because of their intentions and the things they do?
Here's a short passage from the book in which Lauren ( a human) has just accused Angus (a vampire) of being an evil being:
“Evil?” the Scotsman queried, apparently insulted. “What do you know of evil?” He dismissed her statement with a wave of his hand.
“Probably nothing,” Lauren replied with a shrug. “Vampires aren’t supposed to exist outside the realm of legend, but even so they’re always considered to be evil. This place,” she went on, gesturing to the room in which they sat, “can’t exist by what anyone would call natural means. Again, things like that…”
“Yes,” Angus interrupted. His tone sounded defensive. “My very existence, were it known, would be considered evil incarnate. But I do exist, as does this place, just as you exist. Unlike you, however, I am handed judgment based on legends and silly stories told by people who know nothing of my true nature, nor that of the world. You consider a hawk feeding on a mouse to be natural, but when I feed it is not? You ate the flesh of an animal this very evening…I can smell it. Are you,” he asked, “personified evil?”

theres too many opinions for me to handle. so i dont know what to believe
Stewie,
No-one is asking for you to 'believe' anything. Do you have an opinion on the subject at all?
As much as we might wish it, most people won't take the time and effort to realize that they need to stop believing in Hollywood. People are too set in their ways and refuse to change.
the sub-culture of Vampyrs is unfortuatly getting "trendy" look to movie-kids (of some of the VR-profiles) its all breaking down, thats the reason, why Vampyres are popular in first sight but getting more and more hillarious.
when ppl say that its mostly all hollywood myths and what people believe of vampires to be....
if they actually did research on vampires they would be very suprised...
Darkfantasywriter, you bring up an excellent point. At what juncture is it the moral code of the individual that determines our view of evil? Or is it a societal issue that shapes us and our view of evil?
Can we actually step away from preconceived notions to actually look and see the beauty and rightness of the balance of a vampire? The dichotomy is such that we can look at just the surface or we can try to empathize with our own notions as to what makes our version of right/wrong, dark/light.
Thank you, sahahria. It's nice to see someone actually reads my posts. You're right, I think. "Good" and "evil" are perceptions and while perceptions are often considered to be individual manifestations, there are, as you pont out, societal perceptions. This is what Lauren was drawing on in her peception that vampires are evil. She had no direct experience from which to draw, so she fell back on what she knew of the social mores of the society in which she lived. I think people do this everyday about a multitude of things.
So then the question changes to, can we remove ourselves from such influence on our perceptions? Or is it better to embrace these notions and create them into our own truth...
I personally think that yes there are vampires and each one should be held to their own measure based off of what the circumstances are. The same with people we meet.
Still am I answering off my perceptions and while there is no right, or wrong answer; it seems many would rather dismiss Hollywood and the media instead of seeing the grains of truth sewn into the fabric of the tale being told.
I think the key to creating something original is to take those commonly-held perceptions and ask yourself "if this is what people perceive to be true, what might the reality behind that perception be?" Of course, whatever you come up with is still going to be your own perception, but you will have come up with a new take on an old subject and will have the basis for something that nobody's ever done before. That's what I try to do with my books, anyway.
a lot of peoples perception of whether they exist or not...as well as many other creatures...are created by myth....made by legend...and kept by story....each thing is made into something bigger...each lie told is made into something more apparent..possibly even impossible to see over...it is based on that..and who you are..in terms of religious beliefs most likely.
wow I didn`t think this many people would answer my thread. Interesting points of view. Thanks for answering.I`m not sure what my belief on it is. Theres a few too many facts and myths to sort out. Its seems a little complicated. Then again so`s everything. I`ve always been fasinated with vampires though and was wondering about what everyone elses views on them were. Anyone else like to add thier view please do. I like reading them. And it helps understand something when you have others views on it.
I never really thought about what I believe when it comes to vampires. One thing I do believe is that they are not mindless killers. They kill to eat, not just for the fun of it.
Good post, Kacie.
Too many people believe the stuff that they see on T.V.
Vampires are not dangerouse..... thats only for the movies...... they are posessed by need, they are generally good.
Most of the bad scary fame vamps have is due to TV, movies and myth... actually i don't remember to have ever seen a movie about a gentle vampire or read anything about that...
Personally I believe what I do because of facts I found myself. If anyone wants to know my beliefe be my guest a message me. But if you are to critsize me orargue with me about it. Don't you shall be arguing alone. And my view on vamprism is that if you really want to deicate yourself to it. Then sure I think it's a great idea and a good thing to do. If you are interested in it go for it. Just be carefull. Personally though I wouldn't because of the dangers of taking anothers blood before knowing about their blood. One thing about vamprism is that I have talked to certain people and they have taken vamprism to far. They actually believe they are full fledged vampires. And they live their life day to day like it. That's when you've taken it to far that you put your vampire / vampyre life before your human life. Like your job or school. Or even family. But life is life and you should do whatever makes you happy.
well i just beleive what i want to beleive...okiy ive never actually seen a vampire before :( but that doesnt mean to say i cant beleive in what i beleive for example yes i do beleive in vampires i mean people say that htey cant be real cuz they have never seen them for years but people beleive in there "god" and no one can se him/her so why should it be diferent for people to beleive in vampires?
theyre just people that have light sensitivity and have a slight obsesive thing with blood.......that what i think.
Everyday there is something new and interesting to learn. Vampires exist there is no doubt. Just look around VR.
I believe that vampires are real, sure. You can't just stop believing in something because you can't see it. You can't see air, but you know that it's there. I don't believe that vampires can do a lot of stuff that hollywood indorces. if vampires could turn into bats, that would have to be one big bat because where would all the mass go? I'm sceptical about somethings that people tell me, but i believe that there is a version of them out there. I know there's a "disease" that's like vampirism, but i also like to believe that there are ones out there that are actual vampires
well, if you go by the legend then they are just crazed murderers, but if you go by everything else then there just trying to stay alive
what i beleive and what i'd like to believe are two different things. i fantasize about vampires, and the romantic notions that i have in my head about them. but i don't actually beleieve that one day i'm going to look up and there'll be this tall man with the brightest ... ummm what was i saying?
oh yeah. i'm willing to let the question go at .. do they exsist? yes, in my mind if no where else.... lol
Some one has said this but I too believe Vampires are normal people who suffer from a condition
mythes, legends, a way for people of the past to explain conditions they didnt understand....
People fear what they don't understand. They create their own myths and legends to explain things.
i do believe that the basic idea is that u are born that way, and that they are good and bad, jsut like normal people. it's the choices they make. i think there is some truth to the light thing, jsut exagerated by hollywood. far as i know buffy is the only one where they burst into ash on the spot, but anyone will die if u drive a sharp hunk of wood through their heart.
i see vampirism as more of a religion if thats what you want to call it.
People read way to much into the hollywood and mythological parts of vampirism. they dont think about that actual information
that ok i've read the others you all have meaning .thats cool and everyone on here have there own right 's maybe i have no idea whats going on but thats ok feel free to tell to me .....
Everyone has their own opinions on vampirism.... but in truth ... real or fake, myth and mystery, isn't it the real vampires that oughta know? :P
these statements come from a variety of sources and most are presumptions.
there is only one truth, and few (if any) who might still breathe it...
I can run on walls! And am very agile but dissappearing in shadows and special powers sounds kinda rediculous.
Fantastic thread, well i might as well throw in my pieces of silver.
Personally my feelings on the matter are that vampires are as such:
Humanity, has a point of sustaining itself upon the matter of other forces, and there is a caste of hominid that some call homo astarus, etc....they are capable for doing all varying degrees of acts, at least what is plausable in their world and for their perception. Acting on their own behalf affecting changes based on their own wills, causeing them to act as the gods they are in their own environments, how ever that being said, they act without absurdity, they work with the what is, and how it is, and shape what is to be. At least this is so far as I have pieced together, also, the sway of power one has over the minds of man (woman) is of a primal level. Unfortunatly i cannot continue for lack of time, but for what its worth, explains alittle of my views.
it's really hard to say, I mean you could be all psychology on the subject and say it's only the representation of our warped minds trying to manifest some demeted fantacy. But then again, you do get the small hand fulls of people that do clinically need to feed on human blood. But for the most part, real living dead I belive is fantasy, because we ebalm our dead these days as standard practice, and even is vampires were real, draining them of all blood means a final death.
There are some people who can't understand due to their religion or lifestyle. Like for instance I know someone that no matter what you tell them you cannot convince them of anything against their religion no matter what, no matter how illogical it seems. Like if their bible said all green colors were blue, there was no arguing. Some people will never be able to understand even if it was right in front of their very eyes.
There are so many stories due to time and different viewpoints that what vampires really are has so many different possiblities. Then there are the liars who say they are a vampire and are really role playing for attention. There may never be a distinct difference for a long time, if ever.
There is so much out there that differnt people will deam fact or fiction as they wish. I belive with my heart because often times, logic has nothing to do with things. Very little of what I was braught up to "belive" as "truth" or "Falsehoods" are viewed the same by me today.
We will all belive or have faith in that which we choose to belive or have faith in. Some will find it hard to explain what they belive in and others will rattle off things untill you are blue in the face. We may not all agree on what different things are or mean, but we can at least acknowledge that the posibilities for all the different ideas exist in some way shape or form.
As for Vampirism, I belive that there are some who find it very appealing and some who do not. Its something that each individual must decide for themselves.
i don't believe all vamps are evil some were just born that way
It's amazing how many myths there are for so many different things in this world. What people don't understand they just fill in the blanks with their own detail and pawn it off as truth. Wouldn't it be great if we just knew the truth about everything so we could just end all BS theories about things.
Vampires are people, everyday people, like a few of the others have said. It's a condition. I also agree w/deathnitegrl. I know fact from fiction.
The media, books, movies make more out of Vampires than it should be. Just like anything that they fear. The expose it in a negative manner to sell.
I believe in vampires but its not a myth they are out there and they have a purpose just like everyone else.
I agree with satinmist exactly what she said and great post i love it well done makes me think. I love thinking and reading,
some people are just made evil because of todays society but people fear what they dont understand
I personally believe in vampires. However humanity in general likes to be fed information from popular media and what Hollyweird would like them to be . So generally peoples beliefs in vampirism and anything else is influenced by the media.
ppl whom drain your energy are usually called vampires... but lately im having this dilemma.... can someone drain energy speciafically from someone else without being as such a vampire.... for example an ex lover whom is still in love with his ex, can he drain her energy because he misses her? i know it might sound idiotic... but i had an expierence lately thats why
It could be possible for them to have seperat categories but the rest is mainly all hollywood books, and ect. I believe in what I choose to about them but when people claim to be vampires by pulling the whole hollywood thing is a little rediculous it just shows to you how much they really don't know.
It depends on the individual and how tthey got vampirism. while most people are born with it I haver seen some who magickly got it. I would highly dought that if you were born with either strain of vampireism would be killing machines as if you were born with it you would want to restain it. Of course I would do niether.
there is no doubt in my mind that vampires do exist, my mind is set. the end
I believe there are vampires out there. Not as Hollywood has portrayed them...
I also believe in Fairies and other things.
I do not how ever believe in Santa Claus my brother showed me his obit one year never believed in that again..
I am here either because I feel a deep affinity for Vampires.
I have never been worried that a vamp would jump into my window at night, heavens no I leave that one for Zombies they terrify me.
I think Vampires are deeeply sensual creatures that follow there passions... That they kill is secondary to anything..
When you eat meat for dinner have you not killed something???????
vampirism is a choice that one makes in there heart. the rest is manafest!
vampires do indeed exist, they are not myths, although the "facts" as most know them have been handed down for so long that they are most likley rooted in some fact, but that is no longer what it seems to be now, kinda like when you used to play the telephone game as a child....
i agree there is fact and they do exist but the publics opion is mostly basie on rumors an lies like thefact that we are all serial killers an such rumors like that are all media made up junk
All of us are unique to our breed the one thing in common is we need blood to survive. I learn much from the blood I spill and drink. It speaks to me about the ones who have given or I have taken it from... Blood is the life.
There is so much about vampires to be said that i do not think i contain all my thoughts into one post, Theses questions you ask the thoughts you share and the feelings you express are the very origin of this entire society we are all apart of this place is The ultimate vampire resource and directory. How many of us easly forget that simple fact? The prince's goal is to answer these questions and document all the information possible.
Futhermore, My personal view on this subject is that for one to truely understand a vampyre they must not only know the facts but also the truth, source and cause of the mythical rumurs... some may be false but where did they come from and why? The origanol Dracula tail one of the first things to bring vampires among the general public was based on a man a real person that just so happen to drink blood as part of a after battle ritual in that scence can a vampire simply be a human that drinks blood? But let us not forget that vampyres are not of one type shape or form. There is physic vampires whitch although they are "sucking" energy dont really seem like the same type of creature as a vampire.... and many myths about vampires dont really make any scence such as you mentioned the stake in the heart... why the heart? if they are living why not the head? if they arent living... why would stabbing thier heart kill them? Garlic... a plant... are they trying to say that its poison to them...? if its just a myth completly why garlic of all things that they would be weak agianst? And if your one that thinks vampires are just people who wear fangs and drink blood and "act" like cratures of the night... what is a "real" vampyre? there is no such thing? then what are people who have fangs and drink blood in the night? freaks? thats just a word... just like vampire is just a word... a label a fixation and opinion. i think if youd like to be considered a vampire and live the life style you ARE a vampire. now some may believe that there is vampires and creature vampires. meaning there is people, humans that desire and live the life style but also a true creature that the people are trying to be like... if that is true whitch on some days i believe, then those people are just waiting to be biten by a real one and are definatly willing and ready for it. I think I am one of those people as I do not consider my self a vampire but absolutly love them with a passion i await a bite on the neck from a creature vampire and only then will i consider myself one. this is all for now intill i can reorganise my thoughts.
I don't beleive that vampires are real at all, if they were then people would know about them and there would be no question, also I think people only say there vampires because they think it gives them a certain image and just want to go along with everyone else, I need to start typing because those people really piss me off.
In "Interview with a Vampire" they showed a more remorseful, loving, and moral vampire. My dad hates that movie because "Vampires dont have feelings." I replied, "Why not?" He laughed and said, "Because they are killers." Puzzled completely I replied, "So we are killers to cows but we can still love. Something higher on the food chain should have higher levels of emotions." That usually leads to a debate on a bunch of different stuff but where it gets boring outside of this question. That story pretty much sums up how I 'believe' about vampires.
~Thena
I will say vampirism is more of a way of life then anything most of what people see or hear comes from what has been made an illusion and is not the truth, for example dracula, there was a count that really drank blood, but its not like you think.
Well, I may be wrong yet wasn't Vlad a real warrior who slaughter alot of people in order to protect his peolple... etc... I mean I know there was a real man/ warrior in histiry, But anyway.. I notice that most / majority of you stating you Believe in~~ well to believe in something does not neccesarly mean it actually exist, just like having a faith it has been passed down over the centuries and cultures to BELIEVE OR HAVE FAITH~~ in something so who is to say that they DO NOT exist in reality??? I Believe anything is possible in this realm that we live in rather good or evil and I DO BELIEVE IN BOTH, that they do exist in some shape or form well just my opinon on the subject...
Myths, legends, it all depends on how a person feels about vampires.
to be honest my beliefs come from death itself, whether it vampires or not it is all embracing the darkness and harnessing the power of death and life
Tons of things about Vampires have been overdramatatized and altered by Hollywood. Vampirism is more of a condition/state of mind than "being changed through a bite" or whatnot.
my answer to this question lies within my journal.. labled fact/fiction.. very great question though..
The stories of Vampires are passed down from generation to generation, for as long as remembered or longer. With each passing there is something added, some to scare children into their beds at night and some to impress someone who hasn't heard the story yet. As far as I can tell, since things have been added on since the first, then there isn't much to believe in unless you are truly a vampire and you know what your body desires and needs to sustain yourself. As in all societies, there are the good ones, the bad ones and those that straddle the fence.
I do not believe that you have to be bitten in order to become a vampire. I am a psi-vampire, and I didn't have to be bitten to know who and what I am. Granted, I am still trying to get a complete grasp on the reality of things but I am slowly but surely learning to handle everything.
Everybody judges everybody else - that's what makes us(most of us) human.
I would have to agree completely with deathnitegrl... hollywood and other media have over-dramatized vampires and vampirism.
Vampires are simply people with an odd condition, people with a different kind of addiction. No more.
i think that this is a wonderful topic and i hope it continues.
I think tha tvamop are normal people... and they have a special ability like energy drain.... for example....
well personally i think that vapires are normal people like you and i...but thats my personal opinion on things though..and hey if they gotta eat... they gotta eat....lol
I believe that there are different types of vampyres... some with different powers than others. Some are born the way they are and others choose to be turned so to say.
I believe that you can do anything you set your mind to so if you want to run up a wall than why not? go for it but it only works if you believe fully with no doubt just like anything else.
And ya if you stab a vampyre in the heart with a stake their body is going to die if you stab anyone in the heart they're going to die! but a vampyre soul will continue to wander until a new body is assigned.
That 'tis my belief.
Thanx for the opportunity to share it.
-MixedBlood-
it is really a difficult subject to talk about since there is really no solid place to say thins and this deffinitly happened and that and that is true so it really all depends on where and when you are
Vampires are portrayed as evil because they live off the blood of the living. Is it not true that man kills creatures to survive? Is it not true that man uses creatures for experiments? Is it not true that man abuses creatures? Is it not true that man hunts creatures for sport and not necesity? With the evidence I have given, who is the greater evil: Vampire or Mortal Man?

PS-I apologize for spelling errors and if someone else has already stated these facts.
