We are human. You need a kidney, go ask your neighbor. Don't pretend like you can't, that will just set you us for a fall.
I thin the only thing that makes us different than other species is our high reasoning capabilities.
I do know think there is any difference as Vampires are just humans that want to drink blood.
unless you are talking about the mystical creature from fiction novels.
i just think its the way our mind works..how we are able to think at a higher capacity of specific things along with our level of reasoning is good..
i dont think theres much difference between the vampire & REST OF HUMANITY OTHER THAN maybe the level of their need, want for blood ect.
I agree with the other posters, that what sets us aside is our ability to think. I had a cat once and everytime I walked in the door, he was laying on the back of the sofa. He would immediately see the anger in my eyes and run. When I would leave and come back, there he was again in the same place. The cat could never learn that him and his relationship to my sofa was bad, it was only that him, the sofa, and ME was bad. LOL i thought i would share because it is comical but certaintely represents the differences between animals and us... Not to mention (and this may piss soem people off) the biggest difference between us and Lycans.
Vampires are separte from humanity because we have allowed ourselves to break out of the bonds and matrix of the feeble and restricted. There is a desire to not only articulate Power and Hierarchy but there is a new seriousness in loyalty obedience and expectation. The Vampire Community allows individual freedom to explore and become without the removal of what is vital and right. The US military does good things in making slaves and soldiers but they miss creating brilliant minds. The Education System creates many beautiful minds but does not prepare soldiers. The Vampire Community does both and that is how we are different.
GREAT question. Would like to hear your insights as well (original poster)
slave devlin
humans are more intelligent than most other animals
and vampires are more intelligent than humans
r bodies give us the chance to use r minds in ways that other animals can not even if they r smart or smarter then use
I think there is a big defernce. We have all have needs and wants. We all breath and have living organs. We all live and someday die. Nothing is forever in this world.
Humans are simply a different species than other animals. Other animals are intelligent, capable of reasoning, loving, everything humans do. We are just different, alien to each other- like a shark and a dog are alien to each other.
As far as the vampire to human question- vampdevlin's answer was perfect I think. Bravo vampdevlin!
I have never seen Computer City sell a PC to a non-Homo sapien. ;)
that is a good point. I think that vampires are very much human with a taste for blood. whether it is a need I think that I have to say any medical personnel will tell you that the body can only ingest a certain amount of blood.
humans are the top of the food chain. we are also the most destructive creature on the planet.
Well I do believe that humans are mainly more intelligent yet, there are alot of animal species that are more intelligent on the survior side of living. We are more destructive then other species also, very vain and wasteful.I could debate this in many different ways.
Vampires are in a different league all their own in my opinon. The need or want for blood and control over their prey.. there are many things that make them different
but they are still human, with the same behaviorisms and mannerisms as mundane, for lack of a better word, humans.
i think vampires are more open to most things than humans ,and are not afriad to explore their deepest darkest desires
Some words of wisdom
"man is just another animal, sometimes better more often worse than those that walk on all fours, who, because of his "divine and intellectual development" has become the most vicious animal of them all!"
If the majority of you would like to think you are something other than human, that is fine. I just think it will hard to sign up for something, lets say health insurance, stating you are not. Or, do those that believe this make it a habit in lying most of the time?
Humans are the only species on earth that study their own consciousness.
I beg to differ on that Gentleman. I mean honestly, if you look into the brain of the animals/creatures on this earth, they study their own conciousness as well. Do some studiing about it ::smiles::
There is a big deference between procreation and survival, as compared to consciousness.
Humans and Vampyres are closly related. I would say more of a question of breeding than a totaly different speices.
Mentaly Vampyres are more highly adapeted, physically our metabolisms are less reliant on "food"and can gain energy from a more powerful soure whether thats blood or life energy gained directly from energy feeding.
I have neven known a "human" to have the increased mental visual abilities or the accuracy of foresight as most Vampyres.
A friend of mine who belongs to another House, was the youngest person in TN to ever join Mensa.
Mentaly, simply a different and more eficient arrangment of neural-connections.
Ladyshelly, I would disagree. I think that most vampires are humans with a perchance for blood. That doesn't make them any different that any other human it doesn't make them more intelligent or solitary. I would hard press( not to toot my own horn) to find many of anything with as much iintelligence as most of my family has been blessed with.
unless we are talking about the mythical creature of legend and lore.
I only have one vampire that I know intimately so this might not speak for all vampires. What sets Xzavier and I apart is how detatched he is from his emotions. He is a very logical creature and can, at times, seem ruthless to me. He has feelings and emotion but just doesn't allow it to get in his way. Is that the way a lot of vampires are?
I don't know about vampires, I do know if you ask anyone who knows me I am the same way, as is most of my family. And we are very much human.
prettyviolence, I did not mean humans were not intelligent beings. Just making a point....grins
in my opion its the stuff they have been through so of corse vampires would be different. but also if you look at the genetic matiral that makes a human and a vampire its different.
First I resent the use of the word stereotype but that doesnt really matter much.
I am not aware of public domain gentic material for Vamps.
I do know of a group who studies these things and they have some samples but its all kept rather tight.
i have to disagree with ladyshelly too. Vampyres arent based all on passion. They are merely another breed of humans. a slight difference in the way they eat to stay alive. Just as humans eat meat, plants, etc and drink water. Vampyres eat almost the same and drink blood. some eat energy, which sounds odd but really its not if you think about it.
I know i've stated this kind of as a fact and i also know that it's not. it is just my way of seeing things.
I believe the reason humans are at the top of the food chain is our ability to reason logically but also to come up with and grasp concepts beyond those easily proven.
I think vampires differ in that they allow themselves to be more open to their passionate and animal responses.
We Vampires are humans, we use our minds, bodies and spirits. We conduct ourselves just as others. Because we are similiar and yet different is what sets us apart. There are many types of Vampires, this is also what sets us apart. We have feel, work, have families. We just have different tastes, lifestyles.
Step back from the books, and hollywood. I am who I am and I have no issues with it. I accept. We all need to accept.
It seems that the only real difference in logical thought, is to ask why we are.
To question our reason for being, the nature of our environment and how it all came to be.
I don't see that any other species can consider these questions.
i dont agree with the people saying humans are more intelligent than animals. they are just as smart as we are and have there own way of communication and thinking .just because we cant understand them doesnt mean we are smarter.
seems to me the actual question was mentally what sets us who claim vamp traits apart from normal people, just worded differently
I think those with vampire like traits show a certain level of lowered compassion or a certain callousness concerning topics of pain or death...not that we don't have them...we simply tend to deal with them a little better than others
What sets humans apart form every other species, is our ability to use their hands, with tools. humans were able to create tools to do the things they do in eveyday life. they learn quick, well, for a certian percentage of the population, because some, never do learn....
Whats sets humanity apart from vampires, humans are attached to theyre emotions, its like a second skin. we love, hate, feel pain, hurt and many other emotions where a vampire does not. they no longer have theyre emotions, and dont care for them.
i agree with lady shelley . but everyone is entitled to their own opinion... the only difference i believe is the intense craving for blood.....
but what darkchyld...of those of us who don't crave blood...
an energy leech is still by some definitions a vampire
I agree with prettyviolence here, it depends on what you're actually talking about, the fictional vampire or the real life ones. In some cases humans are born with Reinfelds Syndrome which is the reason why they need to feast on blood. Others just want to, and others have to. It can't all be because of anemicy because that can be treated with pills, Reinfelds Syndrome-I think-is the main cause for this.
i think that what seperates humans from otherkin is thier arrogance and beliefs that they are the best at everything. I mean, humans claim to be at the top of the food chain, but take away the tools (guns, and even bladed tools) and pit a human against a wild animal and see who really wins. I'd put my money on the wild animal, due to the fact that nature gave it natural weapons (claws and teeth for example). I don't see most otherkin walking around claiming to be that great, or being that prideful. I'm sure that there are some, but the majority probably don't.
We can think... We dont give in to our animalistic nature (most of the time) and usually use good reasoning. We also have a conscience (most of us anyways). Thats what sets us apart from animals.
the onley thing i think that sets us apart from animals is that we know how to better ourselves and improve our nature by not leting the animal in us out(most of the time).
Vampires still have the same basic concepts as humans. As does anything on this planet. They have to feed in order to stay alive, natural instinct.
As for the mentality, I've never met a Vampire so I wouldn't know, but, at a guess I wouldn't think it would be any differant from a human one.
this is why i think the differences are more mental than physical....
people with vampire traits still require food also on top of blood or energy intake...and thats one I would want proven to claim otherwise....they still age.., they still have similar tolerances to heat and cold, the only real physical difference is some have a sensitivity to sun....and I know many normal people with that....in fact most irish have that one....hehe
Daermon, nicely put. i have to agree with you completely.
Ladyshelly, i appologise, i misunderstood. i do agree with you. vampires mentally have more passion. and are driven that way. some think on a more intelectual level than humans however that's not to say that some humans dont act the same. in general though vampires do seem to think on a different level. in a different way, i guess you could say.
To some Vamyrism is just a state of mind...however
What can set a Vampyre aside from a human is their moral senses or the way they percieve things...most likely even the individual...humanity may be able to recieve or energy imprint but most cannot send it with their open knowledge...or see other vampyre the way Vampyres do...this question can lead to a very long answer and many different aspects can come into play
to tell the truth i totally agree with lutigerenglelost, about the only thing thing that does seperate us is our blood lust and our mental compacity
i dont think there is any difference, simply because there isnt any difference
vampires it seems have a different sense of morality, and a different sense of reality and concept of existence. which i think is kinda a better way to be and be more acceptable of things normal people find repulsive i guess
Vampires mentally feel like they need more to survive in my opinion
I hope that made sense
