The Ultimate Vampire Resource and Directory

I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction here...

So we have vampires in fantasy settings, vampires in alternate history settings, and vampires in modern settings, but, aside from some terrible short stories, I have never seen any vampires in a sci-fi setting. Anyone have any suggestions for me? Anything cyberpunk/dystopic future would be nice, but any future/sci-fi setting would work.

Strange question, I know. The whole swords, magic, and vampires thing gets a little boring after a while, though...

Perhaps the best in recent history that I can recall is the movie, "Ultraviolet."

Very sci-fi and a very unique take on the vampire legend. I thought the movie was very nicely done and with a very eye-popping look to it (not to mention its to-drool-over star, the lovely Milla).

anno dracula was a good one..... for sci fi that is......theres a few outhers ive ead but i cant recall the names right now......

Ultraviolet was okay, but it was kinda lacking in my opinion...

Stargate Atlantis is okay, too, but the Wraiths (I believe thats what they are called) are more psychic vampires than anything, and I'm looking for good ol' bloodsuckers (no offense to psychic vamps out there)

Good suggestions, though, so far. Gives me a good starting point.

To date,, there is 1 definate,, Ultraviolet,, and 2 possible,, the Underworld movies. i say possible only because some would say the setting for Underworld is not really sci-fi.

I'm not saying vampires in space or anything like that... Just a future setting... I guess Ultraviolet would be a good starting point for what I'm getting at.

I dunno... Maybe I am asking too much...

"The breed" might be a good movie for you.It's really just a B-rated vampire flick but it has it's moments and it's set in the future.The movie is even listed under sci-fi on imdb ;)=

By definition of anything that feeds of a human... The movie Soylent Dream would be considered one. It isnt so much about the sterotypical vampire though.

CTD: Interesting viewpoint there. I would never have considered "Soylent Green" (the actual title) to be vampiric. But, if you define vampirism as feeding from others, I can see how it might be.

Or is it more cannibalistic than vampiric?

Vampires of mars.Its a stupid movie,but its set in the future,and outter space.

There's also the sci-fi space movie: "Queen of Blood" (1966) starring John Saxon and Dennis Hopper. It's fun and a bit campy, but still has a pretty good storyline, overall.

there was an old movie long ago that dealt with vampires in space as something not from earth at all.. i believe it had patrick stewart in it.. wasn't half bad, wish i could remember the name.

OMG Im glad you corrected that title foor me.. I knew it was Green but something distracted me and I didnt even notice my typo. lol. I did mean Soylent Green... and yes cannibalistic, but I was going by feeding off of humans type thing. lol. Like I said its iffy on that one. :)

The only thing I've seen in that sort of setting is Ultraviolet, but I have to agree that I really wasn't all that impressed by it.

ultraviolet i thought was ok.. i did like how they didn't make it out to sound all supernatural..but as a genetic deal instead.

I'm with Stabb on this one StarGate's "Wraith" were the most sci-fi characters like vampires

I have not seen the Stargate show as I got sick of it after a couple episodes lol, but I did catch the end of an episode and I saw the wraiths and I was damn lol

Ultraviolet, I believe, was the most recent movie in that category. However, if you look through the movie section of the Vampire Database there are a few movies in there that might be classified into this category as well.

Ive viewed alot of movies in my time, but Ultraviolet was the most up to date one that I can remember. Very good movie, in fact I stress to everyone to go watch it

Ultraviolet has been mentioned several times.

Vampirella - she came from another planet which seems sci fi in my humble opinion.

"the Last Man on Earth" remade as "Omega Man" based on the book "i am legend"

and i take it you never watch Doctor Who? - "State of Decay " and "Curse of Fenric" as well as several of the books which were sequels.

not to mention the "Durham Red" series in 2000 AD (british magazine) - oh, and Devlin Waugh from 2000 Ad too (he's a gay Judge working for the Vatican who became a vampire)

oh - forgot the BBC series Ultraviolet (not to be confused with the movie) which had a definite sci-fi theme to it.

i suppose the alien in the second Torchwood episode was a sort of Vampire too. not a blood drinker, but drained peoples energy and turned them to dust during sex.

"Life Force" is the best sci fi vampire movie ever made. it was made in the 80s. you can find it cheap.

if you don't mind anime or manga there is always Vampire Hunter D, Vampire Hunter D: Blood Lust and Blood The Last Vampire. i know there a a number of others that place vampires into future and scifi settings, when they come to mind i'll let you know

ultraviolet is one of the newest vampire films that have to do with a different scene of vampires and humans. not quite sure on anything else to add to this.

there is a very old movie that is about vampires in space. theres the movie "IT!" very old then there is another movie " planet of the vampires." both very old.

I agree,The movie LifeForce..I think is the ONLY psy vamp movie ever made that was NOT boreing!And ..yes,cheap!
You always see blood drinker vamp movies..
and not enough psy vamp stuff.

Someone said "The Breed" it was really good for a low budget flick, theres the C- flick for Vamparila, not as good as the comic but shes from space. In Anime there are quite a few really good Vamp. tales : Hellsing, Vampire Princes Miyu, Both Vampire Hunter D movies, Blood the last Vampire is really quite sci-fi...theres more but thats all I have off the top of my head

Whoever mentioned Dr. Who, I remember that there is an epsiode in the older series about vampires.....Damn good show

The Breed was also a pretty good one! As a few others have already mentioned it & if you do watch it bare in mind it was low budget!

I believe that Dracula 3000 was set in the future,on board a spaceship. Casper Van Diem and Kristy Swanson were in it.

I guess you could call Rabid a vampire movie - she had a weird phallic tube under her arm instead of fangs, but she still had to feed on blood and couldn't digest solid food. would i be on the death list if i pointed out that Plan 9 from Outer space had vampires in? i know technically it was a true life documentary, so not really sci-fi - but you know...

Well Vampirella was kinda Sci-Fi ish and then there is the classic Planet of Blood I believe it is called. I have it on DVD it is from the 70's.

Besides those already metioned. There was a made for Sci-Fi channle movie called "Vampire Wars" which takes place in space as well.

There is a relatively new movie out (at least it was on the new arrival wrack at the movie place) called "bloodsuckers" or somethign like that. all in all it sucked.

If you are into gaming at all there is the rpg Rifts that has a setting called "vampire kingdoms" one of the better expansions for that game imho.

I think the Underworld movies are pretty sci-fi, and enjoyable to boot! Here's a speculation. Would 'The Fifth Element" possibly be considered vampiric ? Leelu absorbed everything she saw or watched on TV. Very fast study I might add.And yes, I know she is not an actual blood drinking vampire. I was thinking more on the lines of psychic vampire.

Lifeforce was from the 80s. Astronauts find a ship floating in space. The crew of said found ship are in some form of suspended animation. They bring them back to earth and bang instant space vampires.

Planet of the Vampires, Vampire Hunter D, That is all I can think of right now..

vampire hunter D is about the only ting I can think of myself other then the wraith's on stargate

I just added Night Watch to the Database. The movie is set in present time but on a different historical path. The idea being that a truce was formed between two sets of supernatural "others" for thousands of years and now in this run down modern Russia, computers are used to track connections between dark others and light others and to 'license' things like vampire turning or feeding. The main character is a good (or at least neutral) vampire that the forces of good use to track and monitor 'dark others'.

I think it's right along that cyberpunk line, though maybe not quite as futuristic as say a William Gibson book.

I know this has probably been said a lot. But Ulraviolet was a scifi movie. Even though they didnt feed on others, they were more like vampires of that time.

Also, aren't the Anita Blake books or the Dresden Files partially sci/fi and if not futuristic, then at a minimum, modern and at least on a parallel but alternate history where magic and necromancy are in fact jobs that corporations will employ?

oh. i must agree, that ultraviolet was a good movie. i enjoyed watching that very much. aside from that though, im no help. i havent seen any other sci-fi vamp movies yet.

there have been a few good sci-fi movies, blade series, underworld, etc etc just pays to look around and see what is around

I've seen those two Vampire Hunter D and of course Ultraviolet. As for Vampire Hunter D it takes place 10 000 years in the future so I think it is kind a sci-fi in a way.
