I know that some think the first vampire dated back to the times of Jesus(drink my blood and eat my body), I also read that the first vampire was traced back to China. Does anyone know for sure? Or know where to find more valid information?
only therories since the first vampire predates written history
I do not believe that anyone truly knows for sure! Most literature is open to interpretation and editing. Even the Bible has undeergone many literary changes.
Some say Vlad .. but I was watching a doc. the other day ( Vampire Secrets )
Some believe that the first accout of blood lust ( there so called Vampirism back then 1600's ) Was a countess named Elizabeth Baltory .. not sure on the last name.. Some also say Rasputein was the very first Psy Vamp.. because of his control over the royal family
i think the first vampires were secretive and that we will never know for sure when they first appeared. we can only speculate and make educated guesses
the term vampire did not appear until the 1700's. Bathory was as you stated in the 1600's Vlad was in the 1400's but as I stated earlier stories about vampire practices and creatures predate any written history wikipedia has a lot of good information on it and you can search on Yahoo or your favorite search engine. From what I've read on wikipedia the term vampire is the english spelling of the german term vampyre which is believed to have its origin in the word upir that has a slavic or russian origin. But vampire like creatures are found in but not limited to ancient greek, chinese, sumerian, babylonian and egyptian mythologies as well as human vampiric practices during those times hundreds or even thousands of years B.C. . Vampires are not mentioned in the bible because the term did not exsist, but it does mention the drinking of blood in several places. So since Vampires exsisted before the term vampire and before even written language itself it will be impossible to find the first vampire. The only way you might be able to find the 1st vampire is if you can manage to build a functioning time machine. Let me know if you manage that one I want to buy stock in "microshaft" lol
Personally, I thought that vampires were brought about when Kane killed his brother...you know how he got the mark of eternity...but I don't know if that is true. I haven't read that bible story in quiet a while, but it just would seem that they have been here since the beginning...maybe not...I will have to look further into the story of Kane.
Maybe some things are just better left unknown. Sometimes the results of our investigations can become disappointing and cause doubt of our own beliefs.
I have a book called *FORBIDDEN KNOWLEDGE* i think you may find your answers in there......
COUNT VLADIMAR VON DRACULA was real and he was from transylvania, romania,,,,,,,and he was a distant relative of my late husband they both suffered from several similar body ailments, as well as many of his relatives and descendants
I always thought it was when Kane killed Able but then who is to say for sure. *shrugs*
I would suggest to anyone that there are lots of clues to show that Vlad Dracul was obviously not the first vampyr by a lon shot. In fact the ancient sumerians used the word akhkharu....translated to vamphyr.....so i would suggest that anyone who has the time should do a search for ancient sumerians...annunaki (as they were the ancient sumerian gods) and the akhkharu. You will be amazed at what you find.
M
Ravenswing...I think your info sources are a little lacking
there was no such count as vladimar von dracula
there was a Vladimir Tsepes, younger prince of Wallachia, the term dracula comes from son of the dragon, which was a title given to his father as a member of the order of the dragon, a knighthood sect, his brother's name was Radu
there is some family linkage between them and Elisabeth bathory, but then again many of the nobility families of that part of the world are somehow linked
this info is quite well documented as easily verifiable by anyone who chooses to actually look for it
It depend what you personally view a "vampire" as being... whether you mean human or not. I would interpret that as human, so I suppose you cannot define ethics from remains in most cases!
I agree with Menefecious .
You never know what you'll find when you look for stuff .

It is very interesting to read all these answers. I also thought it was Kane and Abel.
Has anyone seen the ancient Chinese drawings of a man with fangs?
This was very interesting to me!
I would like to comment about the Kain and abel story.
The ancient sumerians had a similar story to the christian one.
The ancient sumerians believed that one called Ka-In (kain) killed his brother Al-Eb (abel) over the female Lil-Tu (lilith, lilitu etc etc)
found here
I can't say that I've read the Sumerian version of Kain and Abel, but I guess that rules out the christian version of Lilith being the first. Seeing as how the sumerian culture was long before the christian beliefs came about. However, the true first vampire is something that will never be known.
What do you think it took to make the first person be vampyric?

I already wrote a post like this at another group, but hearing talk about ancient-Egyptian vampires, I wanted to bring this story to your attention about an old vampire-story, even though it is more a "revenge-of-the-gods"-story than there are actual ("modern") vampires as we think they would look like. (I kinda got part of the story from somebody's vampire-site)
There was a time in ancient Egypt where humans entered into a conspiracy to overthrow the gods. They blasphemed against Ra (king of Gods and men) and heretical priests and magicians plotted ways to turn against the Gods for their destruction, using those very powers that the Gods had given to mankind that they might flourish and grow great upon the earth.
Ra (hearing of this plan) called to meet with Him the most ancient and potent Gods, those who had been with Him in the primeval waters before the time when with His eye (the sun) He had made life. The Gods counseled together and it was decided that Sekhmet (the force against which no other force avails) should manifest on the earth and quell the rebellion. Sekhmet would manifest and punish all those who had held in their minds evil images and imagined wicked plots.
Then Sekhmet walked among men and destroyed them and drank their blood. Night after night Sekhmet waded in blood, slaughtering humans, tearing and rending their bodies, and drinking their blood. The other Gods decided that the slaughter was enough and should stop but they could find no way to stop Sekhmet who was drunk on human blood.
As the carnage went on, the Gods recognized that Sekhmet (her rage sustained by intoxication) would relentlessly proceed with the killing until the last human life had been extinguished. Then Ra had brought to him from Elephantine certain plants which have been said to be of the solanaceae family and which can be brewed as powerful mind-altering drugs. Those plants, and possibly also opium or hemp, were sent to the God Sekti at heliopolis. Sekti added these drugs to a mixture of beer and also human blood, until 7,000 great jugs of the substance had been made. The jars were taken to a place were Sekhmet would pass and there were poured out onto the ground, flooding the fields for a great distance. When Sekhmet came to these fields and perceived what she thought to be blood, she rejoiced and drank all of the liquid. Then "Her heart was filled with joy". Her mind was changed, and she thought no more of destroying mankind.
After that, Ra addressed Sekhmet as the One who comes in peace, praising the beauty and charm of the Goddess.
NEXT: whoa!
Yes I have also heard the oldest form of vampire origionates in china called jiangshi . It means stiff corpse literaly in chinese . Some call it a zombie , not a vampire .
Vampires in ancient cultures

"Tales of the dead craving blood are ancient in nearly every culture around the world. Vampire-like spirits called the Lilu are mentioned in early Babylonian demonology, and the bloodsucking Akhkharu even earlier in the Sumerian mythology. These female demons were said to roam during the hours of darkness, hunting and killing newborn babies and pregnant women. One of these demons, named Lilitu, was later adapted into Jewish demonology as Lilith. Lilitu/Lilith is sometimes called the mother of all vampires.
The Ancient Egyptian goddess Sekhmet in one myth became full of blood lust after slaughtering humans and was only sated after drinking alcohol colored as blood.
In Homer's Odyssey, the shades that Odysseus meets on his journey to the underworld are lured to the blood of freshly sacrificed rams, a fact that Odysseus uses to his advantage to summon the shade of Tiresias. Roman tales describe the strix, a nocturnal bird that fed on human flesh and blood. The Roman strix is the source of the Romanian vampire, the Strigoi and the Albanian Shtriga, which also show Slavic influence.
In early Slavic folklore, a vampire drank blood, was afraid of (but could not be killed by) silver and could be destroyed by cutting off its head and putting it between the corpse's legs or by putting a wooden stake into its heart.
Medieval historians and chroniclers Walter Map and William of Newburgh recorded the earliest English stories of vampires in the 12th century.
Many vampire legends also bear similarities to legends regarding succubi or incubi."

Civilizations have been drinking the blood of their enemies, that they have slain in battle, for a long time. So it is hard to say, when the first vampire was.
The vampire legends predates christianity....plenty of good info on that online
As the years past all old text was destroyed or slipped into dust, so the accounts of vampirism may never bee known or the first record of it thats is..
Fascinating. Thank you all for taking the time to post all of this wonderful information.
there was a similar thread like this before and most people there said that lilith is the first vampire. but its just part of myths....
Drinking blood does not make someone a vampire. Elizabeth Bathory was a lunatic and Vlad was like a lot of warriors of the time. They drank the blood of the vanquished believing they took on their power. I'm not sure if he drank it but rather dipped his bread in it. Vlad always comes up and why...Bram Stoker...that is the reason. He was mentally ill. They say even when he was imprisoned he was impaling anything he could get ahold of like rats and such. Some things are symbolic. No one knows. There are many theories. Most think descent comes from Lilith but no one knows if you believe that is the start of humanoids on the planet. Archaeology is showing that the suggested time of the Adam and Eve scenario does not jive with fossils found. Even the Annunaki were here longer than they thought but drinking blood in many places was a show of POWER not a need. There is a difference. The Mark of Cain is a mark...no one knows what that is referring to. I know of folklore associated with the Merovingian Gnostic church that clearly states the race of the vampyre started not from Cain...not sure where it started but it says his son Enoch not to be confused with the Enoch of the Book of, joined this race and it was called Vampyre and I am not going into the other name which was out of Greece. They were here before the moon...Proselenes and it was through some rite with the Priesthood of Melchezidec...you didn't have to be associated via bloodlines but could incarnate into it. It is another theory. Most people don't know the moon was not always here.
No one can tell you the beginnings as no one knows and if it is long enough in the past it was probably handed down orally so it would be lost most likely. I don't pay attention to past life claims. For everyone who states one there is another person contradicting them. Wondering is interesting but that is all it will ever amount to.
I dont think we will ever know when the first ever vampire was...some say that it was in the 1600s, some say it was the time of christ, some ever say it was before christ, that they roamed the earth with the dinosaurs & some even say that they started off as the first cave men...but we'll never truely know...not unless a REAL vampire came & told us their life history..from first to present!!
I agree with samofthevamps, no one will ever truly know where the first vampire came from or the time frame.
There is no documents to prove either way, there are no absolutes in any belief. The bible for instance...who knows for sure that isn't a bunch of storytales.
None of us will know till we get there.
I believe the first vampire was from Eqyptian times. And there is no absoute proof. That is just something I have always felt inside and have just known. There are countless articles on that theory, but once again, who is right or wrong.
The first vampire was found in myths, legends, and storybooks
I think vampires came about when Cain killed his brother... *shrugs* , but I don't know how accurate that is.
vampires accutally go back as far as lillith and the djinn. supossededly lillth was the first vampire, but i've also heard about the djinn. should be interesting to see where this goes.
actually, the story of Lilith has been told farther back than the story of the Djinn, but according to the myth, Djinn has been around since the beginning of time.
It's really anyone's guess which come first. Kinda like the "chicken or the egg" thing
Like most discussions here it depends on what you consider a vampire.
If you are talking about something that was actually called the word vampire, then it is pretty much tied to down to 1725 or thereabouts
Thank you Daermon for pointing out that the quoted "COUNT VLADIMAR VON DRACULA, from "Translvania, Romania" is lacking:
Good old Vlad Tepes - was a Prince not a Count - his first name was Vladislav not Vladimar - he wouldn't use the German term 'von' - Dracula was his father's 'order' or a description term - he was a prince of Wallachia, well south of Transylvania - and Transylvania is only recently part of Romania and ... to top it all off, as LadyNightdancer was so kind to point out Vlad was not a vampire.
If you just go by blood drinking supernatural beings as being vampires, I still stick with the mythological 'Rakshasa' who were mentioned in the indian holy writings called the Vedas around 1500BC - or the Nepalese "Lord of Death" [Brahmaparusha] which was shown drinking blood from skulls in cave paintings dating back to 3000BC
I've started to read up on menerfecious' Annunaki from the link provided, but can't find any mention in there of vampire like activities - yet
It all depends on what you consider a vampire like STABB666 said and I agree, I knwo they found a skull with fangs in Italy saying it was a "vampire" skull and some scrolls, but this is probably a hoax...still its interesting to know, what if.....never know, near the vatican the first vampire sleeping? Kind of ironic dont you think. But its interesting also. If anyone finds more please let me know, I have found very little.
the vampire: it all started in the garden of edan with god,and then adam and eve got casted out..they had kids and one of them was cain add an e if refering to his vampire name caine..if u go to wikipedia and type in caine or cain you'll find something or if you type in lucifer
The first-ever recorded usage of the word from which our modern-day term "vampire" (Upir') originates is the 1047 CE personally penned by and signed as "Father Upir' Likhyj," an Eastern Orthodox Priest, scholar, and linguist working for Vladimir II in Novgorod, Russia.
This reference far predates both Vlad Tepes (who was not a vampire nor ever claimed to be) and Bathory (who also never claimed to be a vampire) by several hundred years. This was also prior to the later vilifications of vampires as blood-drinkers, which they were not. Of course, to speak such heresy here is akin to crying out inside the Vatican that Jesus was, in fact, a polygamist. However, both of these points are true.
I personally do not believe that there was a "first" vampire, but then again, neither do I believe that there is a seperate race that are "vampires."
do find it fascinating to see the different stages of humans that they have found in the past, though.
from what i understand we come from the middel east with lillith being the first vampire
lol.. I never said Balthory was a vamp its just one of the longest recorded mass muderers ( who went into a blood lust) and even went as far as drinking and bathing in her victims blood..Due to the times back then many believe her be a vamp..You have to look at the times then .. In our day and age we would label her as what she was a murderer who used her power to get away, until she went after many of the Nobles children mainly young maidens.. And was locked away in her own castle for eternity as punishment for her crimes
I would just like to add that the annunaki was one of the ancient sumerian myths about how humanity itself was formed. The sumerians called the vampire akhkharu. You may well spend a lot of time looking for references and/or links between the annunaki and the akhkharu, but i am sure there is one somewhere on the internet. Unfortunately, when I replaced my windows system, i was stupid enough to not write it down.
However, i do have a friend who might still have the web address (as it was from him i got it in the first place), and i will surely ask him for it when i next see him.
Regards
M
Excellent point... and precisely the source of the true first "vampires." The "Anunnake" were the "sons of god" (bene ha elohim) referred to in the Bible. And their progeny, the "Rephaim," perpetuated their true "Dark Gift" which had nothing whatsoever to do with blood drinking.
Sumer's kings had to prove their direct desendancy from the original "Anunnake" and their first generation of progeny on this planet by mating "50 times" non-stop with the female priestess representing the goddess Inanna. Only then were they proved to possess the true "Dark Gift" for which, millennia thereafter, the Eastern European "vampire" was truly known. And again... it had absolutely nothing to do with blood-drinking (a lie concocted and perpetuated so as to scare women from ever learning and participating with such males in the true "Dark Gift" of their bloodline).
In addition to my own journal entries on the subject, might I recommend the following: www.rephaim.org
what makes you think vampires are only found on earth?
karnstein --
I was not aware of any documented accounts or other evidence for vampires found anywhere other than Earth. Are you?
I agree with the majority here, there is no answer to this as we don't know soooo much about the past before written history.
Vampire... are we talking about human vampires or the ancestors of vampires altogether?
Human vampires were mythologically created, depending on the culture, by people being bitten by wolf, bat, cat, rat and gnat.
Now, the vampiresque gene would have been transfered by the initial biter, which either had it in them or were themselves bitten.
My information is all hypothetical, as there is no way to know who the first vampire was or how it started.
If the origins of the "vampire" are to be sought strictly through attempting to seek out the beginnings of legends dealing with any mythological creature or being who drank blood and/or is undead and/or drains energy and/or fears crucifixes and/or abhors garlic and/or sleeps in coffins and/or ambulates only at night and/or has fangs and/or ... etc., etc., etc., then, yes, the task is far too ridiculous to even attempt. Especially given that ALL of these supposed defining characteristics are based either on 17th Century interpretations or outright 18th-20th Century fictions.
However, if we instead seek out the historical origins, etymologies, and original Slavic accounts of the "being" associated with the names upir' (from whence "vampire" directly derives) and nosferatur, there is much that can be discovered regarding the very definite historical origins within a very specific geographic area of a highly unique race of males who were only centuries later vilified with all the aforementioned horrific traits, none of which described at all the true characteristics revealed in those original accounts.
Thus... can the origins of the term "vampire" and all that term originally meant be investigated? Oh.... absolutely. Of course, to do so would mean abandoning for the fictions they truly are almost all that this site regards as characteristic of the term, itself. And that isn't about to happen, now is it?
I watched a think on Elizibeth Bathory...They only said that she was counted as a vampire because she thought the blood of virgins made her look younger. But also that it wasnt proven nor was when they were first encountered.
I think the theory that "God" punished Cain for killing Abel is plausible. I actually told my religion teacher that too... he didn't seem too thrilled.
If valid information is what is sought, then it seems unlikely that you will ever find it on VR, since most will get stuck right back on the hamster wheel of definitions and semantics.
Those theories which are outside of the neat little boxes of evidence, are too outlandish and unprovable for the majority to consider as possibility, which leaves you between the devil you know and the deep blue sea of mystery.
Make a deal and accept the logical proofs, or take a swim and be called insane.
STABB -
You have hit the proverbial stake on the proverbial head with your remarks here. VR has proved such an exercise in absolute frustration, which is why I have not been here in months... and only the absolute boredom of my current assignment at work has caused me to check back in. It gets old quick to try and answer questions placed here with some degree of scholarship, scrupulously citing the quotes and references provided and, often, with URLs back to those points of reference only to have subsequent responders ignore entirely the points made and... instead... continue on as if the very answers they sought had not just been fully provided, and then some. Instead, as in this current thread, the responses to my own continue blathering complete non sequiturs not dissimilar to... say... something akin to the following:
"Well, like, of course vampires suck blood and have fangs and all 'cuz that's what's in all the movies. Like ... duh!!! And, btw, I suck blood too. But now my parents keep me locked in the basement cuz last time I started gnawing on my Mom's neck and, boy, did she get totally pissed! Now they think I'm 'evil' and won't let me around anyone wearing an open-neck shirt. I am just, like, sooooo misunderstood! But, anyway, I have these new really gnarly-kewl tattoos that really help me, like, extract energy from people. And, ummm, like, do you think that if I, like, got my nipples pierced it might help me channel energy more.. you know... like.. better? Oh, and btw, if I eat more Count Chocula cereal, do you tink it will help me be a better vampire, too?"
*sigh*
UpirLikhyj welcome back.
I think that some mention must be made each time Father Upir is ever mentioned that the whole thing is disputed: some very reputed sources still argue that the script you mention refers to Öpir Ofeigr and not Upir at all - no-one seems to be able to see this script , at best, we have a typed copy in a modern russian font.
Whatever version of this theory is correct, at the end of the day the priest was NOT a vampire by any common definition, I think that you will agree that point. It just happens that the letters that formed the man's name (by one theory) happened to be later used to describe a mythological creature.
All of the attempts to ask questions on this site are always made difficult by people failing to realise that their definition of vampire might not agree with someone elses - until a common point is made a good discussion will be difficult.
I would be interested to know what you define as a vampire, if I understand your arguments correctly you would say that a vampire is any russian orthodox priest !!
While it does not conform to my own personal definition of a vampire, there are some folk on here who believe strongly that vampires feed on a psychic plane that is not earthbound. Their viewpoint is equally as valid as others, there are many books and texts on this subject from people feeding on pranic energy to people actually travelling on some non-earth bound plane to do their thing.
Most anceint cultures were into blood sacrifice so maybe then or maybe some prehistoric man was the first and passed it on down the line to the present.
Someone asked if there was any evidence to suggest the existence of vampyr on other worlds.
The sumerians believed that their gods "The Annunaki" were alien creatures, therefore could that be evidence? I do not think so.
However, it is my belief that evidence can be found in a spiritual/astral sense.
As much as i hate to go over old ground (which was frowned upon). I would like to say that my belief in the astral vampyr known to myself as the Necruvian Vampyr can be proven by those who have accomplished the art of astral projection.
However, the realm on which (in my opinion) live on, is not easily found. One must travel to the astral realm of chaos and seek out a gate which has symbols that closely represent ancient cuneiform. Stepping through that gate will lead you to the astral plane of Necruvia....the home of the astral (necruvian) vampyr.
Should anyone find this realm and are able to confirm my beliefs, then that is the only proof that the existence of these vampyr is true, and would also suggest that the vampyr nation does not only live on the earth.
It would also go a long way to suggest that the vampyric nation are indeed energy based entities (as suggested earlier by another in this thread).
M
menerfecious, the 'Necruvian Vampyr' was one of the folk that I had in mind when I wrote the comment about astral plane and activities on it.
If you accept that astral travel is possible, it is equally possible that someone who is (or thinks they are by their definition) vampire will be able to travel or exist in some dimension other than earthbound.
The discussion on the Necruvian Vampyr was not 'frowned on' as I remember. It simply wasn't holding together - the only resources we could find were online and written by yourself, but even they didn't agree with each other - we never did quite get to grips with what they were:
I remember that you were arguing that they were the oldest of all vampires which were unique because they could visit an area of the astral plane call Necruvia - some earth bound vampires then managed to visit Necruvia (so they were no longer unique) they had a fight and the Necruvian Vampyrs were driven out to live on earth. You and some friends had been searching around their old home and had found some old documents that you couln't remember but had managed to translate enough to call them Necruvian Vampyr.
If there is some new and convincing argument about the Necruvian Vampyr, being they are supposed to be 'the ancients' this would appear to be a good thread to discuss this in.
I know the last thread was closed before members who are extremely adept at all things astral could participate - this time maybe they can share experiences with you from which we all can learn and enquire.
sorry not too clear there, I know that the disputed 'Necruvian Vampyr' is not the only vampire that may be somewhere other than on earth.
I know a lot of the psy vamps on here are adept at astral things, I think it is best for them to comment on this.
i dont hink we will ever know as Iamhell was saying blood sacrific and offerings were made before civalization so we may never know
.......how could a first vampire exist without someone there to create it......
Thanks for all your feedback everyone! I'm learning lots!
We predate humanity. To find historical references look in the coran and the bible. Lilith was the first documented by humans,in the garden of Eden.
Stabb i understand your arguement against the possibility of proving something through astral projection and have to say that I have no return. I do agree that in order to find the proof of anything through astral projection, you must first believe in it's existence. It is indeed a catch 22 situation that I am finding extremely difficult to get away from.
Artemka, you are indeed correct, the information I placed in other forums of other sites was rather contradictory, i have since either closed these forums or posted brief explanations. I would just like to say that when these original posts were made by me, i did seem to contradict myself in the matter in question. This was mostly due to the fact that i was finding it hard to understand what i was (in my opinion) finding.
I have to say that even now, i find it difficult to understand much of what i have seen and heard through astral projection regarding this, and I think it is a concept that I may well abandon should I not find anything anywhere else.
I have, however, learn of an ancient tome that does indeed mention astral vampyr briefly, but it does no more than that.
I realise that this is only my belief, and that many others cannot understand what I do not fully understand myself, and i apologise for all of the confusion that my investigations into this matter have caused.
I will say however, that what information i have been able to understand is that they are vampyr that were driven into the astral realms by other vampyr so they had to adapt so that they would live through the test of time.
That however, is all that i really understand with any amount of clarity.
M
I dont think anyone knows where the first vampire was found...
EvilDrakara1983
an interesting idea that Cain has to be the first vampire and a logical argument in support, nice one.
There has been some discussion on here before that the first vampire was a fallen angel.
The 'fallen angels' were all kicked out of heaven at one time over the jealously between the angels and God's new creation of mankind (one of many theories about why but they definitely all left at the same time).
They left heaven with Satan as a Seraphim and leader and were thrown down to hell. From hell, Satan travelled through chaos to reach Earth and tempt Adam.
If the first vampire was a fallen angel they existed before Adam (and Adam existed before Cain)
menerfecious
There is no need to apologise for putting forward beliefs on here, people can then challenge - debate - research and make up their own minds eventually.
That is, of course, so long as they are genuine beliefs - hopefully backed up by either published works or 'better' websites - with so many people actually using the site to promote RPG characters, fiction soon becomes fact if we're not careful
With all things mythological, especially where modern people have taken on a name to represent a lifestyle and Hollywood has taken on the same name for fictional characters, you will never get a definite answer on any question.
in any civilization there have been stories handed down orally...i believe they did and still do exist...who was the first? that i dont think will ever be known...its like tracing your family history and discovering there is a few branches missing....and as for the royal houses they are linked through marriages..so most of the royals still in existence today are related...so i would agree that some have direct lineage to vlad tepes....
Indeed artemka, there are way too many people trying to promote some kind of fantastic fantasy they have within their own minds.
I understand why my first posts were so closely scrutinised upon and deemed by some to be fantasy.
I have found, that some people who do not wish to believe or research will indeed call it fantasy.
Thanks for your kind words however.
M
vlad the impaler was considered the first vampire. He is the person what Dracula was based on. He would impale people on rods and lap up their blood or eat it on bread.
i think the best way to find out is to find out what term was used for vampire back before vampire was a word and just keep looking and looking and as far as the stories from the bible take into consideration the word STORY, the bible is nothing more than a story book to strike fear into gullible people, i mean insurance companies use the term an act of god to get out of paying damages on certain things. and yes something just arent meant to be known.
sumerians were the first to write about vampires. but vampires go back even farther than that.
the story is that vampires were born with the rest of the night tribes when Lilith was kicked out of eden and hooked up with either Lucifer or Samiel.
no one knows and if there is someone who knows there dead or alive and hideing as which real vampires would id think.. i dont think they run around and broadcast it
Although i am still not sure about Vlad Dracul, because way before he reigned, there are stories in the bible talking about not living or associating wit the blood drinkers.
I always thought they been around for as long as mankind has been. I agree that somethings are better left unknown the human has this weird thing about trying to find something out just to dispell the facts.
I have also heard the oldest form of vampire origionates in china called jiangshi .
It's so nice to get so many different peoples views here!
Vampiric lore predates many cultures..I think it is hard to pinpoint the first vampire
It depends, because people wrote down way back in the 1700s about vampires and such, but there was a blood deficiency disease that had been small in minority, but did happen. The people were not vampires, their body just could not make enough red blood cells to stay alive, so they drank animal blood. Some people belived them to be vampires. The disease is still around today, but they have transfusions and things now, so it's not the same. I guess we'll never REALLY know...
Vlad the Impaler, was the "first vampire" I guess. He drank the blood of his enemies. And he soon got the name "Dracula." Thus, the legend of vampires was born.
im jus gonna say that its been a deep dark secret since even before jesus since during man when the imagination of man went wild and when imagination turned to reality with mysterious creatures
it all started with the Vlad the Impaler story. thats when it all started.
This passage comes from this link
the origin of the vampire legend
the vampire legends start with the akarhu of pre sumerian mythology and evolved into the akhkharu of sumerian myths. later the babylonians called them the lilu who were thought to be half demon and half god or human. they drank the blood of animals as an occult rite to attain energy, this is were that myth comes from.
vampires date further back than any of us could imagine......they may have exsisted before jesus...who knows....like someone said earlier some things are better left unknown
i always figured the first vampire derived from romania or even hungary the human form of a vampire atleast...
I still can't believe that people are saying that Vlad was the first vampire when the thread discussing him has only just been archived. He wasn't a Vampire by any modern meaning - he was also quite recent when compared to the other vampire legends mentioned in this thread (he also wasn't Romanian)
To try and mov ethe thread back onto subject : Where was the first Vampire found?
I'm going to have to say India, simply because while many cultures and continents have vampire legends - India has by far the most
Ahh but if it was indeed india artemka, can you possibly narrow it down to a specific part of india?
I truly believe that the first vampire was found in the middle east, withing the territories of western mesopotamia where the ancient sumerian races once lived. It is now the southern border of iraq/iran
LOL no, I wish I could, India is a big place - I simply work on the basis that if the locals have hundreds of names for a similar sort of creature - then there must have been something that they were all describing.
As you know I do like to have something to back up myths and the Vedas has been dated at 1500BC and the Brahmaparusha wall painting back to 3000BC are enough for me .... at the moment
as I have said before I am now swinging my attention to the Annunaki and Mesopotania, it is worth looking at and - as with a lot of things, when I have learned something new - I can change my mind
One of the main problems will be with the slow development of historical writing in Mesopotania, there won't be much to look at
Yeah i know exactly what you mean artemka my friend. I to am starting to have problems in locating valid sources of informatrion to back up the sumerian myths about the annunaki and akhkharu. I did post a brief passage (which is the latest passage i have found in a long stream of information) in this thread a day or two ago.
However, I am now starting to find it more and more difficult to find any decent references to the ancient sumerian myths. Mostly due to the fact that (as you so correctly pointed out) there is so little known about these myths due to the slow progress in the arts or writing during that period.
M
i don't think that anyone could pipoint the first vampire...it's like pinpointing the first human...
