I was reading a book today called "Blood Lust: Conversations With Real Vampires" and in this book there was mention that HIV/AIDS could not be transfered through blood drinking because blood does not, in fact digest and pass into the bloodstream. It rather, psees straight through with no absorbtion.
I have looked on the internet for more information, but have found support of both instances. Does anyone know anything about it?

Also, if blood does not absorb or digest, does that kill the theory that some people NEED to drink blood?

I don't know about the "digestion" part, but red blood cells will not reamin intact after exposure to HCl in the stomach.

Either wat, HIV/AIDS can still be transmitted via a cut in the mouth, bleeding gums, a minor ulceration in the esophagus. So, even if blood can't be "digested" you can still transmitt the deadly virus.

Taken from a medical journal.

"The cells that exhibit these [HIV] receptors and therefore can become HIV-infected are: helper T lymphocytes, monocytes/macrophages, Langerhans cells, microglia and nervous endothelial cells, folicular dendritic cells, B lymphocytes, mucous intestinal cells, the retinal cells. The main reservoir of HIV is represented by the macrophages.

For HIV transmission contact with a body fluid that contains infected cells or virus particles is mandatory; such fluids include blood, semen, vaginal secretions, cerebrospinal fluid, and breast milk. HIV also is present in tears, urine, and saliva, but in much lower concentrations.

HIV is mainly transmitted through sexual relation with an infected person, blood and blood-contaminated objects and by vertical route. Modalities for HIV infection differ with the geographic area. In USA and Europe, the most frequent transmission routes are blood and blood-contaminated objects (needles sharing by injecting drug users, blood transfusion for hemophilia) as well as sexual contacts in homosexuals and heterosexuals."

See highlighted to understand that a breast-feeding baby can contract the virus via ingestion of the mothers infected milk.

This process clearly, with the receptors of the mucous intestinal cells, means that ingestion of HIV infected blood, will provide a significant chance of contracting the virus.

wow that's interesting. you don't hear about that very often. i didn't know blood could not be digested... that's new. but if there is a cut somewhere in your mouth or something, then i'd say that you can in fact contract the disease... you'd have to be almost perfect inside and out for you NOT to get it... you know?

this was actually a concern that was addressed in the mid-1980's in my hometown. AIDS/HIV was a big fright (especially when you live in a small town with small minds) in my town at the time. Most everyone knew most everyone and there was someone working at one of our most visited restaurants who had HIV. People started protesting his employment stating that if he were to cut his finger and bleed on someone's steak and someone ate it, they would get HIV. That's when a report such as the one above was posted in our newspaper...that blood could not be digested.
Funny how small towns with small minds can actually teach ya something :)

If the person cuts her or himself while coocking and lets say they are clumzy and bleed on the steak, then coock it and dont realise it was there, well the small amount of blood was expore to air, then to heat so hit to kills bacteria and germs, so it would kill also the aids virus cells, as a human cannot be coocked to kill it, but specimen are kept in cold because if in heat to high they get dstroy on lab. So my point is unless its on fresh serve food ready to eat, I would not worry.

Add to this the proven fact that HIV infects bolidly fluids, all of which are digestible, such as saliva, though in miniscule quantities.

But who would take the risk? Not me.

You know, I've thought the same thing. o_O Oddly enough I feel that it would be a stupid idea for someone to injest blood contaminated with HIV/AIDS, I mean even if you don't absorb it if you have a cut anywhere in your digestion track you will most likely get infected with HIV/AIDS. Not that people with HIV/AIDS are bad people because they're not by any means, I just dont' think anyone would personally want the disease.

I could, if so inclined, print something in medical journal that states oranges will make you grow a second manhood.

Like the original poster said, I too have seen legitimate, medical writings state that the chances of contracting HIV through ingesting blood is extremely low. Where is it obviously that HIV is in bodily fluids, a normal person would expire after drinking the huge amount of these fluids required to pass the virus over.

Because I remember what I read, not paste it. Ok, I said that I HAVE read medical reports stateing that ingesting blood is a very very low risk of passing HIV. Maybe if you copied what I wrote you would have remembered that. Now, like I said up top, I try to remember what I read, not save it somewhere for easy pasting or rescanning. The reason why I did not give URL proof, is because I can't remember it. Also, I never state that what I was saying was true, just printed somewhere, under the names of people who should know better.

Oh, and perhaps I should get the the names and number of my middleschool, science teacher, so you can rip him apart too. I remember the whole discussion he had about having to drink 2 gallons of sweat, and about 4 gallons of blood before being a risk of HIV/AIDS. Oh, or maybe we should have a little talk about the fact that my uncle died of AIDS in 93. Nah, I never tried to learn anything about HIV/AIDS while that was happening.

Well, first of all, thank you everyone for the replies. I would like to address the fact that, yes, i know that if you have a cut or sore in your mouth it can be transfered that way. I was speaking strictly of absorbtion in the digestive track. And to clarify, no, I do not plan on drink blood from someone who has HIV. I just read that in a book, did a little research, thought it was interesting and decided to start a forum thread about it. Just because the lot of us are smart enough to know that the only way to be safe is to be tested and have our donors tested as well does not mean that everyone that practices blood drinking has that much regaurd or respect for themselves.

even if you get past the cuts in the mouth or lips....there is still the low risk of contracting it through digestion....If you have HIV/AIDs it is your responsibility to tel your donor, or you partner or whomever, and it is their decision to carry on with the activities or not.
okie, heres straying a little bit but, if babies are at risk from contracting the virus through breast feeding, through digestion of the milk...isnt it possible to contract through feeding straigh from the blood??? Long shot but still...
Either way....the risk isnt worth it.

my mom is a nurse and from what shes told me is that blood is absorbed. if that wasnt true then how is it that people can get sick from each other without even swallowing their blood? when you hear the term "you are what you eat" its no kidding. the body digests food to get nutrients from it and feeds off of it. well if their is a disease in the blood then wouldnt that make it possible for you to get the disease as well? i believe that you do get HIV/AIDS that way as well.

The risk is very low once it reaches the stomach. How ever if you have lacerations in your mouth you can contract the virus. Your stomach acid kills it, but saliva does not. Now if you are directly drinking from someone and the blood isn't really exposed to air then the risk is also increased. Hope this helps

I remember an episode of CSI where 3 teens were tripping and ended up killing one of them and eating her insides. What lead them to the killers is that the girl they killed had e-ecoli or something and they in turn got the same virus from eating and drinking their blood. I know, I know, it's just TV, but an interesting thing to consider.

You have no idea what kind of shape the inside of your body is. The slightest open wound, whether it be inside your mouth, a sore throat, a sinus infection, or something internal, can cause the transfer of the virus.

I'm not sure why anyone would want to drink from an infected person willingly, but anyone who says that you cannot get any AIDS/HIV from drinking is WRONG. It is a virus. It CAN infect you.

So people, be safe, and make sure any donor/vampire is clean.

the blood may not be digested completely but hiv isnt part of the blood the blood is just a carrier agent other things carried in the blood that are not part of the blood can be digested. Also if you have even a microscopic cut, lesion or ulcer anywhere from your lips to your urethra or anus in your digestive tract there is a very high chance of it being transmitted there. Believe it or not its a bad idea to brush your teeth before you go on a date, have sex or drink blood from a donor because it causes lesions on your gums no matter how careful you are and how soft the brush is.

Regarding the whole drinking blood aspect of our lives... forget whether or not you can get it this way or that way... This is real guys... there is no cure yet, so the point is... For most of us, blood is a erotic aspect of our lives. Treat it the same way you would treat a long term sexual partner... Get tested, be monogamous, and not worry about it.

I know it's not as much fun as speculating on the details, but you have to be safe out there guys. You only get one chance with the body you have.

i agree with KCRC that it can be transfured by a cut or sore in the mouth, throut, or gums. it is to big of a risk. police officers and correction officers have been infected by imates who bite them.

Yes it can be transfared with with just a lil cut or something, it`s easy, that`s why it`s a very big risk

I strongly wouldn't recommended drinking blood of an HIV/AIDS infected person. It all boils down to being safe and common sense.

I do remember one time my best friend Zack biting our best friend CC on the ear lobe. Zack made CC bleed. CC has been HIV positive 12 years. Zack hasn't caught HIV from CC from doing that. So, maybe there's a little bit of truth in that article come to think of it.

I personally believe blood is another metaphor for energy, so I do not personally think that it effects anything other than the mental state, so digestion does not really concern me.

However, although I do not know whether you can catch HIV etc through blood consumption, if you can catch STD's through oral sex, you can catch them through blood drinking. As is completely obviosu, don't take risks, BE CAREFUL.

If you people are really worried about HIV/AIDS then don't drink blood or at least don't drink until it's been properly tested... or have sex for that matter... I've seen countless posts about HIV/AIDs on the forum No doubt they're good for information, but c'mon. It's sorta common sence... You don't want the disease, don't drink and hump

HIV/AIDS when taken into the mouth through drinking blood, or otherwise licking , lapping, or sucking any biological fluid, contaminates the mouth, the throat, and the esophagus. These areas contain many capillaries that are close to the surface and may cause contamination before the biohazard reaches the stomach. This is also true of Hepatitis A,B and C; as well as STDs.

I agree with Dark dragon's posting "the department of health recommends that all meats be fully cooked before eating.. this is to avoid catching disease from the meat," Common sense would say you shouldn't take a chance with tainted blood.

Drinking blood carries the same risks if not more risks for transmission of blood borne pathogens as oral sex. Therefore, HIV/AIDS is not only totally capable of being transmitted via blood ingestion, but it would actually be more risky than oral sex since the blood is more direct than from genitalia.

I would think that someone with HIV/AIDS and who knew of it, would be decent enough to tell their feeder... or be wary of letting people feed from them in the first place.

Know your donor... it's as simple as that.

I think that if you have any cuts in your mouth, or on the way down, you'd be able to transmit it there, if not by the digestion process.
