The psychic vampire encompasses a lot more than the commonly perceived perception of "one who takes energy from another".
while it certainly is true that vampires take energy from others, this is a trait and talent that is not mutually exclusive to the vampire, as i said previously. to wave the flag around and say "i am a vampire because i can take energy from others" is a cop-out at best. so what, i know energy workers who have this ability. i can sit and have a conversation with someone and we feed energy to each other by sharing ideas, passions, and conversation. any exchange of give and take between two entities is going to result in an energetic exchange of sorts.
so then, if this is not what defines a vampire, then what is the distinguishing mark that makes a vampire a vampyre? i have personally detested the use of vampyre as a form of spelling. it really does nothing to distinguish one from the other than to brandish the "i'm special" flag.
the psychic vampire is defined by a driving need. so far, no one has posted to this thread discussing the need/ thirst/ hunger or more importantly, what drives this need.
what makes a vampire a vampire is that they have a driving need. this thirst is a genuine need that produces physiological results even though it begins on the energetic level. the energy body of the vampire, for whatever reason, is insufficient when it comes to sustaining the entity.
the energy body, in many respects, is what i parallel with the mental body out of the traditional occult "mental, physical, spirit" bodies. as such, it is more subtle than the physical and not wholly spirit, as the spirit body is.
it is what forms the bridge between the three bodies and unites physical to the spiritual bodies to make the whole entity. when this body sustains damage, it not only endangers the whole being due to its damage, it threatens to separate the 3 that are incorporated in the entity and hold it together.
you can think of the energy body of a vampire as a bucket with a hole in the bottom. you can fill it, but it continues to leak. or... my preferred analogy:
the energy body of the vampire is like a stretching copper wire that tethers a physical object to another object from which it is suspended in air. the weight of the physical stretches the energy body (the copper wire) to the point of breaking. this stretching in the psychic vampire leads to instability and eventually some kind of failure of the energy body as a whole.
in people without this condition, the wire that suspends the physical from the spiritual does not stretch and does not pose any threat to the individual over all.
the vampire is in a constant state of energetic disturbance due to a modification of the energy body or due to an accident that causes the energy body to be damaged enough to the point that it cannot sustain itself. as such, the feeding from others is not a convenient parlor trick; it is a necessary skill and a requirement.
the vampire, as a result of the damaged energy body, manifests physical symptoms when they start getting too low on energy. from exhaustion to near complete physical shut down that has no other plausible explanation are some of the traits of the psychic vampire in need.
personally, i notice it emotionally first. it becomes harder to balance myself and then it becomes hard to concentrate. then it becomes hard to stay awake. and last, it becomes a form of madness that drives me to feed the thirst at any cost.
so. while feeding off others is not a trait that only vampires possess, the need and drive behind it is the defining tell-tale trait of the vampire.
there are several arguments as to why a psychic vampire would maintain the energy body in its admittedly altered (some would say weakened) state. many claim that the energy alteration was done in the name of gaining greater access to their ability to sense and therefore manipulate energy.
truthfully, being "a pint low" does tend to make one more aware of energy. one who took no notice of energy prior may end up highly sensitive to energy and highly empathic. one who was already disposed to sensing energy becomes even more disposed to energy and gain the ability to not only sense the flows of energy but to manipulate it.
either way, a natural side condition of the vampire requires that one manifest the ability to sense and manipulate energy.
that is the beginning of a more thorough answer on what makes me a psychic vampire. i know the origin of my alteration and what made me what i am. it is not normally a condition that can be produced, nor would i wish someone the trauma of becoming a vampire. it is a condition that can be produced from birth. some propose that the condition of vampirism is from a previous lifetime and as such, one is born into the condition. however, regardless of whether one is born a vampire or made a vampire in this life time, there is an alteration that is not natural that has affected the energy body at some point. so therefore, all vampires have an origin that points towards an event that made them what they are.

do not presume that you are a vampire until you have found that which makes sense from a rational mindset. believe me, my own understanding took not only time, but several stages of denial, before arriving at the full awakening where i understood what i was and how i came into being.
and with this condition firmly in mind, i intend fully to explore the potential of what i am and use it to ultimately become.
