I don't particularly like air and water, but I need them like... my life depended on it.
I haven't forgotten that they are two of the biggest causes of erosion. Damn them both!
Fire rocks, because I played with matches as a kid, and it led to several character-building experiences. Also, I'll embrace the Earth when the Earth embraces me... when I am in a casket (not used for sleeping, weirdos).
the earth and water are my main element I conect with, they enhance on contact my sens and habilties, they make me at ease and serein, the conexion is instant and wonderfull
Water is my element, to the point that i have never been able to even live more than a few minutes from the coast without it having an impact on the balance of my life.
That to me is the greatest energy that water has ~ it maintains my balance, my perception, my emotional state.
I believe it to be a positive force personally for me, yet i appreciate the strength and destruction that it is capable of too.
It plays on all my senses; nothing gives me more peace than to look out upon the ocean, i love the cooling aspect on a hot summers day when you dip your feet into a running river, the cleanliness of sea air elates me and the comforting nature of a babbling brook brings a smile to my lips.
i agree in the fact that water can be both a creative as well as a destructive element depending on how it is used...it can be smooth or rough, just as all the other elements too i feel have a creative as well as a destructive nature as well.
Ok looks like this has turned more into What element do you feel the most affinity for? Okay...Air and Water. But I like fire and earth/wood/metal too. (yeah, been looking into elements in Chinese system lately too)
My original response to the topic was to talk more abotu method of making the connection to elemental forces. I learned years ago, through some very Druidic bard sort of training, about a little poem called the Song of Amergin in which the author describes how he "is" all manner of natural elements. It is an almsot shamanic means of morphong one's consciousness to take on the aspects of the element or part of nature in question. "I am a wave on the sea...I am a ray of the sun....I am a hawk on a cliff..."
On the premise of "As above, so below" or that "Like calls to like" this technique of Merging (and I'm even using a Gwyddon term there) with the thing to be manipulated can achieve impressive results.
I do not have a specific element that i connect to, i would believe without being connected to all 4 elements a person would die, you can have a favorite one i guess, but i believe you are connected to all 4 equally otherwise you would not be here long...
i do think everyone has one element of there very own. i am fire, i can call forth warth when there is none to be fond.
i have learned as growing up that the elements i feel connected to have changed from one to another,i believe with experience we all find what elements are suitable for out works in the craft..i use meditations as well as written spell to connect with my elements i feel that the more you connect the stronger the energies and the powers that were once subtle now become intense in power.
we must feel the elements when we are doing rituals or casting circles. all of them flow around and through us, providing guidance for all we do.
I personally tend to connect more to air....but I feel comfortable with all 5 elements
earth, air, water, fire, and spirit
I don't believe that their energy is either positive or negative...it simply is, positive of negative comes into play with our usages of the energies
I believe all the elements contain both. And the effect that they have is all in how you use them. Fire for example can be destruction or light. I feel I connect to all of them on different levels. Some a little more than others but am slowly building the connection to all. Like I connect to wind just by standing outside at times, closing my eyes, and letting it pass through me, around me...and just listening to it and seeing what it brings.
When I am near a body of water, my feelings tend to get really calm. It feels as if some how spiritually I am one with the water I am next to as I look at it or step in it. It feels if I concentrated long enough I could make something happen with it. The feeling goes to the point where its like I would enjoy making a thunderstorm and flow with the energies of nature its self.
When it comes to the moon and I stare at it, it feels as if I am one with all around me and that I am connected to it all in some way. To me, its a very peaceful feeling which is easily attained.
I have never felt pulled by any one element..I have felt balanced by them all my whole life. I need all of them to be the person I am.
Since each element supports a different part of my system, I try to keep a solid connection every day.
Sit on the earth and lose myself in the roots.
Inhale the fresh air, and smoke from my pipe.
Feel the warmth as it burns, and as the water flows down my throat.
It is essential for me to stay balanced in my connections with the elements, or massive mood swings. However from them I have noticed that personality traits are more airy, watery, firey, earthy when I give one a greater connection then the other,
Its very unique. I am glad I am aware of such a connection.
I don't know too much about elementals or how to connect with them, and I have found this thread helpful thank you
i like fire, i flows through you when you are enraged, its the only element you don't have to call upon, its instilled in all of us, just wakening it up the the bitch, but once its awake, nothing can stop you. (god complex)
The way fire can move people is the way that the wind can move me.
Naturally it is my element...
I find bits and pieces of elements embeded in my personality. Metaphorically of course.
I don't know.. that's my connection.
I find myself in agreement with others here who keep a balance with all the elements. While at times I may draw more from one or the other, such a letting a nice breeze blow the cobwebs from my mind while I seek inspiration, I'm usually about equal with all. I do not believe they are "good or bad" by themselves. As with most everything, it's in the intent and use by humans that decides that.
I am not disagreeing that some may be more in tune with one element over another but I believe that a balance of them all lends to greater understanding and strength.
for me i take in each element but use water the most best way i found to get teh energies is swimming in a body of moving water and let it absorb into me
I personaly agree 100% with BillytheJust, in order to feel connected with an element you should become one with it so to speak.
My element as a Scorpio is Water, like most of you have said your elements calm and center.
Walking thrue a forest or siting by a stream or siting around a campfire stoking the flames or being ontop of a clif side overlooking everything below, or standing on sun warmed soil with bare feel feeling the heat flow thrue the shell that hold our spirits captive. All of this and more is how i get connected and center when all is chaos, and there seems to be no order in sight.
I have been studying the elements for a few years now, and still do not know everything or even half of the possibilities of the ALL concerning the elements.
The elements, I believe, mean different things to everyone. Depending on your balance, some are more atune to water, or earth, or fire, etc. Balancing all of the elements can be very hard and take a very long time.
I personally, have more water characteristics, but connect most and more easily with earth. The powers that I can recept and use from each of the elements can vary GREATLY against the comparison of another. That is what is so wonderful and amazing about the elements. Everyone can benefit from them and alot of people do without even knowing/realizing it.
There are positive and negative aspects that come from the elements. It just all depends on the person and what they are trying to do or accomplish.
If you respect the elements, they will respect you and perfect balance can occur.
Simply put,I take hold of their strings.Water I dont have to,but the others I do.
I think all living things have energy.
What kind and what one makes of it is up to the indvidual.
Well said Carvall It means something diffrent to everyone. I personally am pulled by water. around any water elements I feel grounded like i am part of the water.
I think I connect with all of them in some way or another. Can't really just say one or two of them.
i believe that i connect with the spiritual elements through emotion and through my own personal intent particularly when doing spellwork.
My connection with the water is very powerful; I go to the beach, sit down and just close my eyes and listen to the waves, and I'm able to tune out all other noise (people, animals, etc.) and I am able to re-energize and my mind becomes so focused, I'm able to think more clearly, and I feel so much better about myself, and more positive about my life
I am more of a water person myself because I feel the most settled when I am near any body of water. I prefer the ocean, but can also ground and center very well next to a lake or running stream.
I am also beginning to find I get the same *settled* feeling while working in my garden. This is new to me as we just moved to a place where I now have a yard. Previously we had NO outside space, we lived in a Condo or the *yard* was non existent.
as a leo my element is fixed fire and that is how i am as a person. "touch me in a harmful way you will be burned" i also get energy surrounding me at sun set and sunrise because of this.
My element has been air and water, more water than air. I was a water baby when growing up. Loved the water. I joined the navy for the sheer love of it. being stationed at places with coastlines Air began to mix in. When the wind blew, I felt it's energy empowering me. As for water I can't stand to be away from any water source. I have to be near it. Being out on on deployment on a acrrier was awesome, being surrounded by nothing but big blue water.
Fire just came intot he picture not too long ago. I realized it when I enjoy just being out in the sun. ( i know strange for a vampire) and then everytime a storm would come it had all 3 elements air, water and fire. (fire being lightning) it's a great feeling to feel with a storm, feeling the power it holds. I've come to know when a storm comes and how big it will be depending on the energy signature it gives off.
I know this sounds weird and all and I hate to bring this up, but when Katrina was close to hitting New orleans, all i could do was concentrate that I had a hand on Katrina trying to steer it away from new orleans. (I feel mental now that i have said this) But I just knew what kind of distruction it could do.
I've never been able to get a grasp on earth energy tho. I get too much power form this element when I'm like walking in the woods. When I absorb too much energy it makes me sick sometimes.
i feel that in the elements that everyone has the spirit element then they have either
fire
water
earth
or air along with it,because all things work withing the spirit in one way or another.
personally i feel a strong connection with water; however, i can feel all of the elements and in my opinion all of them are equally important.
there are different ways of connecting with the elements, as there are with any type of energy. i find that meditating helps. however, i have no real skill to share as im being helped at the moment by a coven sister of mine on being able to feel energy and meditate. im still in practicing phase at the moment.
My sign suggests I am drawn to the earth , it is true , I also feel a strong connection with ALL of the signs. Very strong energy that is so much a part of my life force....it is for me a natural high! Every living thing eminates so strongly , I feel privilaged to be able partake of it in the never ending circle of life!
I feel there is a connection.... I am a Gemini and the element for us is Air.... (now that is a general thing cause there is more to an astrological makeup than just the sun sign) Yet I am comfortable and at home in water.... I feel there are bonds with elements and they can do things for you... like I never lose my voice... Air.... the only time it ever happened was when I was wicked sick but even then I didn't talk for about a day.... But as far as the - and + thing I think it depends on the person whether or not the power is either way.... in my experience I have never felt the elements giving - power off......
There are only four elements. The identity of air and spirit is established in early mythologies of widely separated people. They are the same. In Egypt the vulture, Maut, was supposed to reproduce her species by the intervention of the wind; the Virgin Mary was also conceived at the impulse of a breath.
Some arabic legends relate that Mary conceived by the breath of the angel Gabriel; in another arabic account of the Immaculate Conception, a dove descends upon her, inspiring her with the word or breath and the word is made flesh. The angel like the dove associated with Mary is a winged creature whose natural element is air. The dove was the bird of breath, air or soul. It belonged to the egyptian goddess of love, Hathor, and to other love goddesses and mother goddesses. A dove-like bird is shown enveloping a statue of Juno, the Roman queen of the sky or air.
Air is breath and soul.
Earth is what we are. (Man comes from clay.)
Fire is the magical element.
Water is chaos and destruction.
i can say that i have a special connection with water, i don't know if it's because i'm a scorpio, and all that stuff about a water sign, but water is something very special to me... and rain most of any other water expression... it has happened to me that in a certain unknown way i can force the weather and the rain starts falling....
fire
water
earth
air
spirit
The whole universe is made out of only these five(different combinations), your body as well. Once when you gain the understanding of that, you will begin to connect with the desired, it would come automaticly.....
The key to the everlasting life lyes in these studys as well, in understanding them and controling at your lesure.
Actually the key to anything you ever desired lyes exactly in the control of the elements, in the control of the machine you are in....
And lastly, How Do You?? wont help in understanding anything, but paying attention to the most powerfull machine, to the most powerfull receptor, to where all is stored, and again rewiewed with deper understanding- Da Human Brain.
alixayron, Agrippa would have agreed with what you say.
There are [in man] the four Elements with the most true properties of their nature, and in him an ethereal body, Chariot of the soul, in proportion corresponding to Heaven... Therefore man is the most express Image of God, seeing man containeth in himself all things which are in God... Whosoever therefore shall know himself, shall know of all things in himself; especially he shall know God, according to whose image he was made.
-- Occult Philosophy, Hendrich Cornelius Agrippa von Nettesheim
i agree i do feel that all these elements are used daily even if not recognized, they are not just spiritual but physical elements as well that can be used for good or for bad.
i also feel that the elements may have a higher level of energy depending on how the constalation-moon,phases are.
i feel that these element are in everything and that different ppl have different proportions of them, on top of this i feel that we can use peices of these that we borrow from ourselves, with in and nature, with out
I have always had an affinity for water and air, even though as a Leo I am a fire sign. Water, especially moving water, and moving air, are very important to me- anything stagnant makes me feel ill
I consider myself associated with the Air and Earth elements, but always felt better near water. I take walks along a trail we have near the river to be near the three above elements. For fire, I burn lots of incense and light candles.
i believe that we can strengthen our own personal senses if we would meditate on our elements that we connect with and for those that have not yet found one element to connect with alot of learning and understanding of developing ones self inner being could help you grow a connection with the elements.
Ziggy you are incorrect if you follow the Asian outlook on the elements.
There are five:
Wood
Fire
Earth
Metal
Water
Wood hold the Earth
Earth absorbs the Water
Water puts out Fire
Fire forges Metal
Metal cuts Wood.
Wood fuels Fire
Fire turns to Earth
Earth produces Metal
Metal holds Water
Water sustains Wood
It is thousands of years old and is not only a biasis of their beliefs, it is also the founding blocks of their medicine.
I feel that the element of Earth is the one I am closest to, because I love nature, also that I was born in January, this probably pulls me more towards my element.
I believe almost everyone has at least some tie to an element, be it good or bad. I personally love the water as well, I want to live by it and swim in it. It's a very calming feeling for me to just sit on some random rocks near the ocean or lake.
I love painting pictures as well, and the elements influence and drive me.
Once you learn to connect with your own natural element, getting close to the others is a bit easier. Your zodiac sign is a clue to your element. Discover that, then meditate with it. Envision it, see it in your minds eye, or if you truly need it, have a representation of your element before you and meditate looking at it/into it. Once you learn to connect with it, getting to any and all others, is child's play.
i connect to water and hold on to it and use it to keep me strong
the element can bea pwoer source for any human if they know how to use it
my two elements are water and wind. The way that I connect with them is I stop moving and listen. I have made a connection when I can hear the individual buzzing like type of sounds they make. Each element makes a different sound for me. I view the elements as alive, like the tree is alive, but not gods.
you just have to feel the energy in not only your mind, but in your body...your going to want to experiment to which are you strongest elements...water and fire are mine....2 opposites such as myself
if i can be in water for an hour when i come out its like i am a whole new person
I can feel and sense all the elements, but the earth is the one that calls to me the hardest, I need to feel it under my barefeet and when I need comfort and to reground myself the earth and trees are what soothes me.
I feel (what I see as) a fairly decent connection to all of the elements.
I would like to think that all humans have at least the capability to at some point develop this connection. But I'm quite sure that there are plenty of people who fail to take the time to reckognize this connection they may have.
I dont believe any elements should be viewed as positive or negative. They are purely neutral. While nature can be a very harsh bizzle at times, I view nature and natural disasters as the universe's version of population control.
I spend as much time as possible with bare feet (apart from the fact that for some reason I hate shoes) because walking with the soles of my feet in contact with the earth grounds me so I'm not such an airy Libra. To me, the most soothing thing is to have a bath or sit with my feet in a creek, feeling the water draw out any impurities I have collected during the day.
I believe that the elements can be stronger in people that are 'gifted' (Empaths and the rest of the mob) and things that are generally associated with that particular element.
To explain that more .. Empaths generally deal with emotions and for the most part Water is associated with Emotions. I'm not saying that Empaths are drawn towards water more .. I just know that I am as an Empath.
Sitting out amongst the Elements I find is the easiest way to connect to them and ground yourself with them
I see the elements as neither negative or positive - they simply 'are'. They are a basic block of life and existence as a whole; some may view fire more negatively because it causes so much destruction - however, I encourage people of such ideologies to witness how the earth shakes and violently rips itself open and changes; how water rots and drowns; how air can tear things apart; and even how spirit can corrupt (anger, hatred, greed... these are all aspects of the greater whole of the spirit).
I say these things because without a knowledge of the negative aspects of all the elements, one can't fully appreciate their positive aspects, and thereby appreciate them as a whole. This, to me, is very important in the plight to becoming truly 'enlightened'.
I connect to the elements simply by living - that may sound odd or pretentious to some, but it's true. I have the spirit within me, fire to warm me (the sun), water to quench me, earth to ground me, and air to allow me breath.
This isn't as complex as some think. It's actually quite simple but can have drastic side-effects.
i feel that it is good to learn about the elements and what they all correspond to especially if someone is interested in their magick aspect and the energies which they can lend to spells.
I guess if i would have to pick an element it would have to be earth or fire, but all the elements have their purpose and are needed to survive...
I feel very much at home with the earth element. And it happens to coincide with my zodiac sign as well.
Well first off, I should say that I have heard that spirit can be broken down into light and dark (sunlight and night). For me, that holds true.
My element, based on my beliefs, is Earth and Darkness. I think it is a personal connection as well as a general one. General because I believe that all humans have an element; most are not aware.
The elements themselves have much power over their specified areas and/or their target human.
All elements are neutral. Depending on how you use them, they can be positive/negative/neutral.
I believe that the elements are all interconnected. If you think about it, they all work together and depend on each other. Think of how a wild fire works and you'll see what I mean.
The elements are also connected to us and necessary for us to live. Take away just one, and our chances of survival decrease dramatically. We are part of everything, and everything is a part of us.
I do a lot of elemental work, utlilizing all five, but I'm mostly drawn to Earth and Air.
I see the elements as an extention of creation, and myself as an extention of Creation as well. So I am directly connected to the elements. I am a part of the elements and they are a part of me. I am closer to fire, and water due to my birth sign. Over all I find that energy of the spirit works best for me.
My element is air. I connect with it when ever I am out. I talk to sister storm when she blows my way. I find I do not mix well with fire. I tend to fan the flames too well. I also don't seem to do well with earth. Water however is a good mix, a weave and flow that is often interesting and entertaining for a time.
i believe that was can make mollicules of water do strange things with the different emotions we have since we have farmones and may be able to control it:D
I feel that water and fire are my elements Earth is the one I least feel for. Air is so so.
