I am asking for opinoins here on how you decide what to rate a profile.
I have my own system for rating
whelps who have simply entered a quote and put ask me will get a 7
All coven mates and refferals from them will get a 10 all PMs get a 10.
If a whelp has done some work and put html into their pro I will give them a 10 for the effort. My husband is also a member here and he rates everyone a 10. Then if they come and rate him lower he gets mad, goes back and rerates them lower.. So what does everyone else do?

I rate based on content and attitude. Friends and members of my coven will always get a ten.

What is the big deal in this rating thingie. Don't you think it is kinda personal thing. Whatever your standarcs are then rate it! I make my profile to be pleasing to me. I give out as much information as I feel comfortable with. If someone doesn't like what I say or not say they rate accordingly. I just do not take this so darn personal, rating doesn't clearly define me............ only I do that!
A footnote: I enjoy reading the profiles and appreciate the creative work given to them, thusly I rate everyone a 10 :)

I rate on content. If you have a lot of pictures and hardley any text you'll get like a 6. If you have the words Ask Me then you get a 5. If you have a couple of sentences you get a 7. A Paragraph get's an 8. Lots of text and a couple pics get's you a 10. Also if your a guy you are rated a lil' differently than a girl. Because girls spend more time working on their profiles because they care and guys don't.

Most profiles get a four from me automatically.

PM's will get between 5-10 depending on how much information they have on their profiles -which is the same for all othr profiles too-.

People who just have pictures or things like 'Fuck off' or 'I don't like you' get a one.

I rate what i feel like
a non premium member will recive usally between a 5-10
the non premium members that just have like 1 line on there profile and pictures.
will get a 1.
pm`s get a 9 or 10.

I rate what a profile deserves... though I dont usually rate less than a 7

On a side-note... What's all this shit about "down-rating?" Somebody rates you say a ten so they expect a ten back... and when they dont get it they sulk and whine...

i actually look at everything and base my rating on effort and content

... And what about these people that rate low and dont put anything in the comments...

I am a pretty nice person i usually give everyone a ten..unless i see sumthing on the profile i do not like, or if they have nothing on there pro (unless they r whelps)..and when i say sumthin i dont like i usually mean if they say f everyone and f you and such and vampires suck..stuff like that..that just proves they really dont care about the site..im not sayin they have to like vampires but f u doesnt really sit well with me..lol

If i have read their entire profile and enjoyed it i'll give them an 8.If they have something that really makes it worth remembering i give them a 10....And if anyone gave me a 4 or a 5...i don't give a shit.They must have rated that way for a reason...I'll ask them and i'll try to improve...And i dont even care about re rates.I joined this site to gather more info on things i'm interested in and to make friends....Not to become sire or anything in 2-3 months.....

I rate everyone fairly:
1-4 if it has little content
5-8 if there is some effort
9-10 if it's very good!
Also, I don't rate premium members any differently from others, but they generally tend to put more in their profile, therefore I will rate them higher (this doesn't apply to all PMs, just the ones who have nice profiles!).

I've never given anyone lower than a 5, although I've been tempted. Free members vs PM's aren't usually taken into consideration when I rate, since I'm still a free member.

I usually rate on what I see. Even brand new people stand a chance on getting a 10 if they at least put something on their profile. I will give low ratings to ANYONE who only has "just ask", "fuck off", or other nonsense on their page. Take a couple extra minutes to put something semi-intelligent on there. Even saying something like "Hi! My name is Joe Schmoe and I'll put more on here later!" will get a higher rating.

Grammar and spelling weigh heavily into how I rate others. I'm not demanding perfection, but at least make the effort. I want to be able to actually READ the page without having to whip out my Super Secret Decoder Ring. Leave the AOHell baby-speak and "leet" speak where it belongs.

I mark down for pages that load slowly due to an overabundance of graphics, and layouts that I can't read. If the text is hardly visible, I don't care how great your background is.

I rate everyone a 10 no matter what, and if they rate me lower than a 10 i dont care im not on VR to be rated...

I give everyone a ten unless they do something to piss me off then it depends on the extent of my dislike for that person.

i rate on how they do there from , im pretty genrious on my ratting but when i rate low which is rare it is due to either some one talking tradsh about every one, some one who talks about how hot they are for the whole profile, or how life sucks and they want to die thats what gets a low rate

Generally speaking, the lowest I give anyone is a 7 .. those are people who have absolutely nothing to one or two lines. If they actually manage a paragraph or two they get an 8.. If they throw in a couple pics or a background.. or a good deal of info about themselves, they get a 9. Everyone who puts in effort eventually gets a 10 ...Oh and ports always get a 10 from me if there is at least one photo of themselves..

Well I give everyone a ten, so that they can work up to that ten so when I re rate I look to see what they have done.

I rate by content. If someone has a personal picture posted I will normally rate it a 10 because I think we are ALL beautiful creatures of nature. The times I will rate lower are one-liners like: I want to die, life sucks, fuck off, 14-year-old female showing picture of her cleavage and if all the words are written as if they are sending a text message: U R 2 lazy. English is not my first language. If I can manage to learn it, I think someone who its there first language should learn it too.

Effort goes along way with me. So try and rate high.

I rate every profile based on the amount of content, information, and the person's use of html.

Most of the time 8-10 as long as there is some effort,time put into it. Not everyone is computer techs.

I rate based on how much is on the profile, the content, if it is truely nifty and my mood at the time.
It's mostly fair, rest assured. :p

I am with you RavenKnight! I really don't give a horse patooh what I am rated and if you don't llike what I rate you (which is always a 10) don't tell me. LOL cuz again I just don't care. I am here for fun, exchanges of idea and just relaxation. Definitely not getting my panties in a twist over ratings.

A question for people who always rate a 10: what value does your rate have?
I mean, I am all for everyone being perfect and being an acorn for the mighty oak tree and all; but isn't that just avoidance, especially when acompanied by a stamp?

The percieved value of 10 from someone who always rates a 10 is sh*t, I'd rather get a 9 from someone who has a spectacular profile and great ethics.

Life is more about percieved value than actual value.

I rate what I feel is fair and what I would want someone to do for me I will never rate anyone under a 7 though.

I rate based on content and whether people generally have something to say. Unless they have added a lot of information or html to their page, I usually rate whelps a 7.

I rate on the content if there is alot of swearing i will rate about a 6 or a 7 all PM's get 10's alot of work goes into their profiles to and if they have vampires suck i rate very low

I will answer your question Kglitterous. Cuz it is not a priority to me. Someone even makes an effort to say something is fine with me. People are people... some more outgoing than others. some write better than others. Some use pictures to express themselves.

I understant that you rate, as do most, on what you feel, by your standards, but as with art it is all subjective yes?

I basically give all newbees a 9 and then when they have added more a 10 and everyone else is a 10 but if they are neg or rude about something i wont rate them at all.

It depends on what I see... I try not to rate low if I see an effort. If I look and see all the new profiles and I rate one and then see that the profile was just made I'll give you the benefit and rate a tiny bit higher. I usually try to go back and see what I rated before and see some other things.. what's going on.

I rate based first on volume of content, then on design. Premiums will normally get higher than freebies, purely because they can do more with their profiles, but i've rated free's with 10 before now. I tend to rate pm's that have a profile that looks like a free one (ie they've not bothered to do anything with it) lower. As Isilmea found out.

I'm a web designer and graphic designer so it stands to reason I look at the design of a profile. Anybody with text alone usually will get a lower rate, premium or not.

I rate based on content in the profile.

Profiles with one or two lines and no pics or anything get a 1 until they update.

Profiles with a few lines and pics get anywhere from a 3-4

profiles with too many pictures and quizzes and nothing else get anywhere from a 3-4

profiles with teenagers in thier underwear get an automatic 1, because I feel they need to respect themselves better than that and learn other ways to get attention than through sex.

Everything else gets a 5 - 10 rating from me.

The only profiles that get 10s from me are ones that are well thought out and put together.

1's to those that have absolutely nothing on their page or very little on their page

2-3 if you are treating this like a dating site

4-5 If you have put some effort into your page *too many pictures and quizzes*

6-7 if there is more info about yourself and a couple of pictures

8-10 if there is info about you, pictures a background etc

And I should mention that being a premium member has nothing to do with a rating with me, because there are premium profiles out there with a rating of 4 that didn't have jack shit on them and I am not going to hand out 10s for laziness. I have also rated non-premies 10s before, because they deserved it. Effort goes a long way with me, I don't give free 10s.

Wow silly people. Being new I am surprised that people do not realize that any rate is valid. What does it truly matter? Sounds like people want to validate themselves with rates.

if they have "Ask me" or their first few lines is explaining how they "have an attitude and shouldnt be crossed because you will regret it...etc" and yada yada yada...then i rate a 5.

I want to know about the person so if all they have is pics....i give a 5 or lower.

if they have like nothing, i give them around a 6
if they have a good amount of stuff, it ranges from an 8 to a10

I rate whelps a 10 to start then go back and see if they did any work to their pro , cause i know what it is like to just join and get rated a 1 it sucks cause you dont get a chance to work on it . If i go back next week and nothing has been added then i will go to a 7 or 8 I dont think no one deserves a 1 -6 unless they come and give it to me then i go back and rate them what they give me I think its only fair . I do rate all PM 10s cause they work really hard on there pros. Guys or Girls I rate the same .

When I first signed up my profile was bear for the first day or so because I was busy reading the manual. So whelps generally get an automatic 10 from me for the first rate. If I go back a week later and see nothing is going on with updating the profile, that rate lowers a little. But I haven't seen that happen but once, so far.

Other than that, I rate according to what I feel the profile deserves, premie or not.

I rated what I want depending on content and pictures. I usually rate between 6 - 10, 6 for a couple of lines and 10 for a done up profile.

I rate based upon the content and the effort put into it. Unless your profile is blatantly offensive, you can expect a rating between 8-10.

I rate a few different ways..

I start with content... I dont look for anything specific. Some people cant really speak with words... I know a few... So if the profile gives you a feel of the person, they get a 10.

Now, when i get downrated, with no reason.. cuz i do work hard on my profile, i return that rate after messaging them first.

Other then that, i do rate below 5 for the profiles that say... Ask me.. no effort there.

I'm still fairly new here but i learn alot from others profiles and it gives me incentive to improve mine. I rate 10 if they show they put forth the effort any lower i leave a comment as to why, and what can be improved, and i will re-rate accordingly.

I rate high, if someone rates me something I don't agree with, say an 8 or less (based on what I put in to my profile), I rate them what they rate me, or worse

I rate based on how much of a person is revealed in the profile. I don't care much for the pictures. They tell me nothing of who the person is or how they feel. Pictures are nice but I prefer to read.

10's mainly unless there is a swear word in the user name -2
swear word in the profile some where.... another -1 or -2 depending on how many times they got any posted.....lol

if the profile is supended when i get to it....lol automatic 1 for being a idiot for getting supended in the first place.

I give all that give me a 7 and up a 10. If you rate me lower then I will rate you the same. I hate doing that but its more or less an incentive. But when I'm going through everyone's profs and they havent rated me yet, automatic 10.

I been doing good about giving out 10's until a few people rated me below a 10 Now I'm steamed. But those are the breaks sometimes.

a persons profile is a personal thing and no one has the right to enforce their crative standards on someone else. some people like their pro clutered with lots of stuff and others like theirs very simple. its up to the person. who am i, or you to say what a persons creative mind should be.

Give a 10 on first visit, no matter what..unless its really mean and disrespectfull like racist talk, or hatred.

Then if the person visits me first, I give what I got on the base of: if its good enought for you to put on me, then its good enought for me to put on you.

I rarely give a 1, I think I had given 4 times a 1 since I am here, and it was a return rate. But when rerate I go back. and rate back.

I got a PM for that, so I check everyday and go rate. If someone has given me a 1 for no reason then blocked me, I think then this person is a big stupid baby.


If I rate you low I always tell why, unless its a PM cause I know he/she can see and know by going to mine that its only a return rate.


One thing, I paid for a stamp and was deprived several times of the paid priviledge, but I still give my 10, I wont comment tho, I wont type, why? cause I only type if you impress me over a 10, and that is rare. Most of the time I'll send a personal message to say what has impress me.


Sorry to be so extended, but I took the time to type it, as it seems lately I am getting 1 and no reasons.

I rate on content both written and graphical if there is little I rate low but give a wordy critical review on how the profile can be fixed. I finally tell them to contact me for a rerate when more work has been done.

the first time I go on a profile I dont rate, most of the time, the second time I check if they have rated me first, if not I still dont rate.

I do most of the time go and rate a 10 those who never rated me before. Cause I know they never saw me so they cannot have juge me. If a person has already juge me, then I wait a little to rate I wait for when I usually by a PM every 6 month of 1 month, and then I go on a rating spree, I go and rate everyone that has rated me what they gave me, as I took the time to go often on their profile so they shoudl do the same, plus as someone told me: if its good enought for you to give me, then its good enought for me to give you too.

I rate if I feel something… I cant stand long profiles … common I don’t have all day so cut out the same pictures and quizzes … be original .

I really think that you should rate what you feel. Like kglitterous, when I go on a rating spree, I turn images off to rate. But I always try to give a 10 just for effort and individuality. People that are the "f-off" types get an 8.

I always rate based on the content and the look of a profile... Meaning, if someone has just written "I'm a vampire lookin 4 luv" on a plain black background, he will receive less than a 5 from me... I hate giving people 1's though, a 5 seems bad enough to me.

However, if there is SOME valuable content including a nice layout, it doesn't necessarily have to be anything too fancy... That person will receive a 7-8 from me...

Someone who has put a lot of thought and effort into their profile, both visually and literally, will always receive a 9-10.. doesn't matter if I like the person or not.

And pics, a few but well chosen pics, always catch my eye...

well I rate based on content, such as the info, the pictures, quizzes, and html work.
If they have a decent amount of information I will give them like an 8 or something, but if they have all of that info and some html such as scroll boxes, color codes, and it is all centered then it gets a ten. Basically any thing that looks like it may have taken some time to do will get a ten from me. If it is filled with quizzes then it will get a five, if it only has pictures and no information it will get a 5.
If it is a whelp and it only has like a paragraph then I will rate between 8 and 4 based on correct punctuation and stuff like that. I rate fairly, I will give you what I think you deserve unless you purposefully come to me and give me a one, then I have no problem returning that one to you, although I usually don't give ones I will if I need to like if someone's pro is offensive or something.

I'm new here, but i would like to think profiles are rated on effort made to create, not about actual content, after all profiles are very personal plus not everybody is a P.C genius, i'm certainly not.

I rate everybody a 10. Only time I rate different is when somebody rates me something other then a 10 and their profile has nothing on it or it looks obviously tacky from all the access clutter of quizzes and or pictures. So I rate them a 5, which to me is a neutral rate and plus for them being a hypocrite about how my profile looks bad to them when theirs is obviously just as bad and or worse.

the ratings system is far from perfect and we all have our own way of dealing with the imperfections.

if i see a new whelp profile rated 10's and is ahead all the other ones, i go and knock it off the top of the pile, a beginning profile without content never deserves a f*cking 10

all PM's get a 10 from me unless they give me less, then i return what i get.

i try to avoid rating whelps because they go premium later and then freak out over getting a fricking 5 for a zippo content profile that they have since pimped out.

I'm tired of arguing over ratings below 10's so now i've been focusing on gently aged profiles, that have content, so im giving out more 10's.
Besides, I feel I get better ratings returned from members who have been here a while than newbee's.

I hate when a newbee comes on board and gives me a 4 just to be a prick so i'd rather fly under the radar.

and yes i am guilty of rate bombing but only when someone new attacks my friends, i support my friends.

Juno, being new myself it is frustrating attempting to work on a profile only to have some "old"member give you a one while you try to put things together. Still 1 is a valid rate, even if the ego does not approve.

well it seems more humaine to me to leave the whelps alone.

Let them organize, and pimp their profile, and then find them later to rate them....

it's pointless and unsporting to shoot a whelp with a starter profile.
thats like punching a baby...not much fun for me or the baby.

Juno, that seems to be the thing that most people do not wish to see, the evolution of a profile. The ratings are all that matters to them, not what is added as our time spent creates our way of presenting ourself.

I rate from what i think the profile deserve.

I rate on content of profile.. if they cant be bothered to put anything on it they geta 5 (yes i know im mean) but dont take much to put something.. I dont give 10s out if they dont dererve it some people work really hard on their profiles they deserve the 10s..

and i dont care what they rate me back.. its only a profile i wont die..lol

When i first came to VR, i was told that if you give a person a low rate they will give you teh same rate back. so in turn i have learned to give everyone a 10..... I give what I receive

evolution of a profile is fine and dandy but is it fair for us to judge them right out of the shute?

i don't think so. i remember when i first got here (a long time ago). i got tons of greeting messages and i hadn't even figured out how to put a photo on my profile
...and i got some pretty low ratings, becuse my profile sucked and it sucked because it was brand new.

each to their own but i would rather not judge a persons work based on a brand new-out of the shute profile that the new member has just started to work on.

i just feel better waiting to see what they will do with the profile and rating them later, when i can be confident i will feel better about giving a higher rating...

im sorry but i cant hand out 10's to empty profiles...i would rather just not rate it yet.

how do i rate, well i rate higher then 10's, if you have been rated by me.. and it says like a 90.. thats means a 10 more or less.. just i dont rate under high numbers

If there are only like 2 words or 2sentences and nothing else I rate like 7 or 8.If the starting sentence is something like"fuck you all" yadda yadda, then a 1. I won't enable childish crap like that. If someone has done work on their profile, even if its just a few pics, will rate a 10.My favorite one though is, that person saying incredibly hot they are or brags about being a whore...and I am supposed to rate that crap!nope, a 1 then.

OMG I've been doing this for so long!! lol I usually rate a 10. There are times though when people are being jerks and they deserve a different rating. That's been happening more and more lately. *sighs*

I rate 10s only.
Everyone on this site has interesting profiles, with or without stunning graphics. I usually leave a comment in which I write something about what I liked & impressed me most (and some gothic/angelic stamp).

i rate on content i.e. grammar, spelling, flow of profile, neatness,and the basic information expected. age, sex, basic description of ones self

I rate 10s generally as I find that they rate back - and the rating of my own profile is more important to me

It doesnt really matter..if it at least looks good it gets a high number...if its bleh...then a low number you recieve..

I try to give out as many tens as I possibly can. It's hard though sometimes. I hate the profiles where the person tries to act all tough or skanky. I also hate the ones that put no effort into it.
I can't stand when someone newer comes and rates me all low after I gave them a good rate!!!! I will go back and rerate lower if the person won't tell me why or what I could improve on. Then i assume it was just meaness.

I rate based on content and organization alone. It doesn't matter to me whether the member is premium, an admin, a free member, or their relationship with me.

Most members with nothing or close to it, get 1-3 from me.

That's why there my stamp says to let me know about updates and I will rerate them. I will always go back, reread, and rate accordingly. Most people don't like the rates I give and all I can say is oh well. If asked why I gave a certain rate, I always reply with my reasoning of why they got that rate.

I do get defensive when people do the pathetic thing of rating me out of spite. Those people get an automatic 1.

Quality and content. If you put some effort into your profile, I will rate it accordingly- I do not "rate you what you rate me", that is childish. I will rate low someone who bombs a profile that obvoously has a lot of work and effort on it, yet they themselves have NOTHING on theirs. Rate bombing to me is childish and self destructive, and I don't play that game.

What is fair? it is a subjective term; any rate between 1-10 is fair by the rules.

Juno you brought up a good point, if you know you are going to go back; why rate now? how is it ok for us to put our own feelings into how another rates us? Harsh, sad, true that we are not all 10's in everyones eye.
