Ok in a previous post (can Vamps have children) in many answers Vampires are refered to as Dead... I would like to know how this is so .... a Vamp still has blood pumping thro the body .... still has a working mind/brain ... therefore is not dead!!?? also surely if Vampyres were dead there would be no requirement to feed?? Vampyres are just doomed to walk this forsaken land for all time??.. but are not dead... I would like opinions.views on what others think to this..?
Jellyfish do not have a specialized digestive, osmoregulatory, central nervous, respiratory, or circulatory systems yet they are living creatures, couold it be the same with vampires?
I believe a Vampire is not a Dead thing, like the ones described in the most popular miths, like a person wich has risen out of the grave, and feeds of sleeping ppl, and it looks awfull, and dumb, and lost.
Thats a bit funny theory if you ask me.
I think Vampire is just different in function.
I think madbeau made an excellent point.
Vampires of the living variety are alive, married men like myself are more willing to die.
The few people that I know that are able to fully live a vampire lifestyle are very much alive. Not only are they alive in the physical sense but also in the emotional sense. They are very much alive and human in all ways. The only difference is that they choose to live a very different lifestyle. I think it is only in movies and books that dead people come back to life to become vampires. Even then the term “undead” means not dead.
i think that they call vampires the undead because their bodies operate and are governed by different rules than the normal living human being making them alive in their own sence of the word because a normal human body would not function under a vampire state making them the undead
ok so conclusion is Married men want to die and the undead is dead.. but that still doesnt really answer the origional question lol
Feisty, never a conclusion with these esoteric discussions of vampires. They evolve and new aspects are added. I see a special category developing of the married undead just in this thread.
Madbeau draws a good analogy with the jellyfish (see jellyfish picture in my portfolio). Fictional vampires simply change --- transform.
They are human in every sense, except for the cool immortality and superpowers. And, the blood thing, which can be uncool depending on my mood.
Real vampires are live beings, not undead as hollywood would suggest.
Vampires are eaters of the Dust... condemned never to feed save on the life of the Sons of Man...
are we not living for here there exist living and breathing vampires. this is not hollywood and the depiction of this species. here we follow the style of life which from the norm places us in this community.
Well vampirism is a virus, in witch a bite passes the pathogin. I virus is niether dead or living, but it can insert its dna into a cell. If you think about it that is all a vampire does when it feeds, if it doesnt kill the host, so therefore you insert your dna into a host, willing or not. And the virus mixes the hosts dna, with the vampires dna. So techniaclly they cant have children through that process, but i dont see why they cant tho, they have the same organs and most of them have the same uses.
ACK! I dont even know anymore! : '(
I always figured that movie vamps were supernatural. That why they were dead but still "working" erk.
The 'living dead' as vampires are so often described I guess mean they walk the earth, feed to keep going, but essentially have no real living tributes. I don't believe this, but I don't have enough time to elaborate. This is what I've concluded from the info provided from some of the responses. I hope that helps you.
Well for one, the actual vamp we have now... they are living... but the fiction vamps of legend, had to die afor becoming a vamp, so they are undead, (un [undo] dead [lifeless]) so they undid death.
Hmmm...
I had children before my cycle killed me, since then none to add, but still enjoy trying!
Most answers in that thread were also based on Myth not reality.
In myth Vampires are believed to be the undead. So the answers correlate with that.
well as for the Myths they say they can breed even if they are the undead yet who really knows unless your one ..
many answers are based on myth for science so to say has not proved any existance that i know of of true vampires, so many specualtions are what we are taught or read. living vampires exist to day fables of undead are just that fables.
i feel that vampires are alive in some ways but there heart is dead therefor they are dead..but we need to feed..that is are curse as vampires.
wow i didnt mean to start a trend here but I dont know I thought they were dead
YAY
*pats himself on the back and bounces*
jellyfish are such strange yet wonderfull creatures ^_^
Well the traditional vampire isn't exactly dead, but a creature that sort of cheated death, hence the term "undead".
a very interesting post, to something that is undead, i can't see how it would be possible.
If you pick up any novel on vampires, it will say they're undead as their hearst stop beating.
lol.. death means many things.. I think that they are truly dead, in the sense that they have nowhere to go but death from being a vampire (while a human or animal life has more possibilities... IE becoming undead, true death, even pain/suffering are signs of life, as is decay and entrophy)....
D
If you're talking about everyday real vampires and not the hollywood kind then I would have to say yes I'm sure they can have children.
Vampires are neither dead nor undead. They are simply another species of man. They are a more powerful species but their numbers are far less.
Very interesting posts thus far; some straight forward others bordering with humor...
As for me: was married, died once- cpr and defib are no fun... Would not wish it on anyone else. Current Longing for death.... NO! Like living too much!
we are not dead or undead we are awakend being what we are is 90 percent spirit and 1 percent phisical that is how i see it
Vampire are both indeed dead and the undead why do i say this it is because when a vampire is known to the world they are betrayed so in turn outcasts which make them of the unknown community or dead society and as far as the undead part is concern because they don't survive like we do they rely on the blood of man for there survival not food from a store like humans do ..so infact live the undead life ...this is only my belief
Undead means deceased but behave as if alive, so how can something deceased procreate?
That definition of undead btw came from the Wikipedia not my own.
we hav died n been reborn... an immortal soul amongst a human body
Nothing can be Undead. PPL take movies and books way to seriously. In the movies they say to kill a vampire you have to stake it through the heart?????now i ask you how can something undead have a heart??? rest my case lol
Vampires are very much alive, they are just.. hmm... how do I say it, made up differently? No, that's not right. Their physiological makeup is the same yet their strengths and weaknesses differ from a human. Overall they are physically the same but mentally, emotionally and every other way they differ greatly.
very intresting point on the jelly fish
as for vamps being dead i feel that they have to have some life in them they move and think do they not
Well the vampires of folklore are merely reanimated corpses that take sustenance from blood, and mainly energy. Therefore, reanimated corpses can't reproduce.
But vampires nowadays, real vampires, if you will, are not dead.
yes vampires can have children lol you ppl crack me up.!! But if were talking about folklore vamps then NO!
well if u think about it they are not dead but they r not alive eather they r the undead
if they were undead then how do u kill them for something to be killed they have to be alive...right???
Real vamps or people living the lifestyle of course are alive, hollywood vamps are a whole different thing. Yay hollywood lol
Ok if you are going by the Hollywood Movie vampire - they are the walking dead. They cat re-produce because the dead can't give life.
But if you are going for ordinary people who consider themselves a type of vampiric being, then they are not dead...the dead can't walk around, sorry, that is hollywood BS. And just in case someone wants to mention zombies,m again that is hollywood BS! The dead cant get up from the grave and walk around, the cant reproduce or anything else.
Which means yes the living can reproduce, and like in another forum post that asks whether they can contract diseases or other things, the answer is YES! Come on now, use your brains for something besides a hat rack! Vampires are not immortal and they dont live forever, they age and die the same as everyone else, they carry out mostly normal lives to my belief, with just alittle bit of eccentricity.
And no I am not a vampire, werewolf, fairy, etc. I am a human being who is a practicing witch, and I don't believe in role playing. Too much like lying.
by what ive seen on tv that vampires are of the undead.. but alot of others say different..
::yawn:: i would personally like to see a truly "dead" entity step up and prove it.
::taps foot impatiently::
ok ppl...i'mma waiting here....lol....
I dont think vamps are truly dead it is just part of the lore. makes the immortal part kinda understandable. I think that being or believing to be a vamp is more of a radical religious statement for most. There are a few who fill the standards to the max tho. Bows. :)
im tapping foot to .. i think we can be waiting for a long time.. even for a live one to step up to the plate ... just because some one drinks blood isnt a vampire.. wouldnt they have to be a killer to..
I am a vampire, and I am alive...
That's all I know.
Rev. Ravyn
madbeau has a good point.
Andi think people have the idea that the vampires are dead because of all the movies and stories we heard. so no i don't think that they are dead. Just not understold.
seeming the def. of the perfix "un" wouldnt undead mean not dead and seeming a vampire's heart doesnt beat i would say they are dead
or deepening on you view of would a vampire is live works to because i drink blood and am adicted to itso i see myself as a vampire
first of all you guys need to choose if your fighting about a vampire in the hollywood sense or of vampires in the occult sense or in human sense then you guys can depate if a vampire is alive, undead, or dead in my oppion in any sense the vampire is alive but like others have said it is just like a human but it is phiscaly stronger and thinks differently and has different emotional stats
then again are we talking about vampires in the sense that they drink blood and keep hidden in the shadows aray from mankind and lights or are we talking about vampires in the sense of carpathiean vampires which can shapshift or other kinds of species of vampires which destroy eveything in sight
i too agree with doru that Real vampires are live beings, not undead as hollywood would suggest.
i would hav 2 say the dead cause no pulse no beating heart no feelings
i believe they are alive i mean to have the thirst and the abilit to reproduce the kinda have to be right ?
Nether dead or undead...
and we have had this thread before..
so if what was said earlier on is to be true vampirism bieng a virus then vampires are mutated humans therefore alive
well a vampire can be both dead and undead if you look at the fact of a vampire like say if you were like blade he's a day walker and yet controls the thirst for blood and there are those that come out at night which are the undead some can be cold and ruthless, but others can be charming and delightful with a heart of gold take this aspect from my angel and follow your path of a vampire you want to be
Undead, as the blood that flows through them isn't theirs, and they don't have a working heart.
Some vampires have sex, some dont (the ones from the past) Some can get disease some don't. I think it's rare that they could but I dont' think it's impossible
in my mnd vampires are undead they have died but risen
I believe they are just like us look the same have a heart beat, just live forever and I am not so sure if they can have kids though.
well now days i would have to say in general vampires are just living with the many who say they are vampires tend to role play, maybe about 20% are real and living the vampire life,it amazes me how now days everyone wants to be a vampire ,just shows how much things have changed..long ago being a vampire was a curse those who were vampires were made and awakened and not by their own choice neither,i feel that vampires do have an immortality to them but not in the way as many individuals believe.
in reality vampires are living beings, there are those that live in the way of the subculture and then there are those who live as an everyday "normal" person would.
Real life vampires (people who live the vampire lifestyle) are very much alive. They aren't dead or undead. Fictional vampires would be considered undead, or the living dead.
I think they would be on the verge of dying but not dead
Cause every book or myth you hear says they wont drink the last drop of blood cause they believe they would take there victims death as there own well that goes for other vampires as well
You should check out this site http://www.angelfire.com/tn/vampires/
interesting info on vampires
I personally do not believe in the "Undead Vampyre". A vampyre is simply one life form that consumes the blood of another. Not necessarily to sustain life, but that could be the case.
They are dead in the sence that there mortal body is dead..but in any other sence are alive..We are the undead..
they have to b living bcuz if they have blood a heartbeat n brain waves the would b considered alive by our standards. they r jus being punished i a way bcuz they have to feed on the humans they once were n knew and they watch the people die around them
Vampires are alive in real life.
In fiction - I'd take the undead.
Vampires are neither living nor dead, but instead trapped somewhere in between... undeath
Vampires are referred to as the undead because the body had to die first and then be re-animated. So they aren't really dead or alive, but once dead and then not anymore, undead.
I saw a virus statement....again.
dead or un-dead.
Animated. Alive. Dead. Un-dead. Transformed from the physiological state of the average human. Alive on a different level.
Ok, this is what I think: if we're talking about the mythological/folklore vampire, then they are a fictional creation of ancient superstition, literary creativity, and Hollywood sensationalism. They're supernatural beings. We have many offshoots of these beings in fiction -- for example, in Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Black Vampire Hunter world, vampires are basically people with fangs, although in one book she talks about one of the characters dying for a time when the daylight came, but avoided the question as to how this was possible. However, in her stories, vampires can have children, although, due to the age of the sperm/eggs, those mortal children have the potential for some sort of disease (I forget what she called it). Again, this is a literary creation -- not real. Because of the supernatural element in all these stories, I'd say these vampires are undead -- various varieties of corpses animated by some supernatural power.
Now, as to real vamps -- they are alive. They have to eat regular food. I don't know if all of them can have children, although I'd never considered that before, although I find it an interesting question because I have had three miscarriages. I have one son, but he was born when I was still a teenager, before I began to feed on energy. Every pregnancy after that resulted in a spontaneous miscarriage.
Now...that may or may not be related to vampirism. It could be related to the massive amount of coffee I drink. It could also be related to RH factor, or tumors of the uterous -- any number of things. (Sorry; I don't mean to be graphic, but I want to make it clear that a correlation does not mean that one thing caused another).
If they bite one they can turn them
They are the undead because they are surviving without a soul and you have to have a soul to be seen in a mirror that is why they have no reflection
They dont have a soul so that makes them dead
But they also are alive under a different state of rules so this makes them the undead
I think the body is not dead but the soul is. since I dont really believe in the dead kind anyways..of course we are alive but mythologically speaking when they are called dead I think it refers to the soul.
Okie dokie..if you are referring to make believe vampires. They are dead, their bodies do not possess living tissue. So dead is dead, nothing can be made from a corpse.
If you are referring to vampires that are not from a bad horror movie. Then no..I can assure you I am very much alive. I take in air and nutrition and no I don't need blood to survive. I hope someday to have children. And no I cannot turn into a bad and fly away and I very much like garlic!!*lol*
