Do you think that any interpretation of the mythical vampire could actually exist and go undetected in todays culture?
I am not talking about sang/psy vampires.
What I am asking is, hypothetically, if there are real, immortal vampires out there who drain victims of blood, can only come out at night, etc., do you think they could really live amongst us, undetected by the majority? And if you do believe it possible, do you think they actually exist in our world?
Why?
No, I don't believe so. The myths are based on misunderstood observation of basic things.
Question would be if a vamp could get the blood he or she needs without killing folks, i guess.
Or could they take blood without killing, leaving the victim wondering what happened?
no
thats nonsence really. Although if they did I may go join that club
iam all for living forever
i am not really sure how to answer this Question so i will research it and i will get back to you thanks for the idea..
I think it is very possible for vampires to live and dwell amongst us, and be intergrated in society. The fact is, they do exist and live amongst us. Hollywood has made a mockery out of us. Thus, whenever someone thinks of a vampire, they think of a blood sucker. I will not tell you who are the real vampires. That you will have to research and find out for yourselves. Those who are part of the elite, however do know. And I am part of the elite. The true vampires may choose to live like the vampires that are portrayed in the film genre. And may even drink blood. But the real power isn't just in the blood.
who here is religous?
Retorical question?
You decide
Is Jesus dieing on the Cross a myth too?
Derick.. the thread is about Vampires not Jesus. Vampires have traditionally been fictional, and cannot even start to be compared with a regilion that a lot of people here and around the world hold close. Be careful where you walk with your words as you may offend others, or perhaps that is what you seek to do.
To to the orginator of the thread; no I don't think its possible to keep a secret that big! If "real" vampires were hereI believe, we would know about it.
yes derick.. if I were to answer u honestly there would be a lot of unhappy people. That is why vr tries to keep religion out of the threads as much as possible. (Not to mention my answer would still not get this thread going in the direction you want it to.)
As for the question I think that it would be possible only if there wer a few of them and that it depends on how they persue life. I do not believe in those types of vamps (the hollywood type) and have seen no proof but I am not saying it is impossible, just unlikely. (Would love to be proven wrong but...)
As much as I like the idea of being a vampire just like the ones in all those hollywood films, and as much as I would like to be like so many of those fictional characters, I know that I will never be able to fly like superman and I will never be able to turn invisible, just like I know that even if I changed my lifestyle to imitate the life of a hollywood vampire, my life would only be an imitation and far from reality.
Having said that, I would like to think it is possible, so I prefer not to shut the door on the possibility just to amuse my own fantasies. Is that sad???
Yeah I guess it could be so, it could be that there are real powerful immortal vampires undetected, living actively on this planet. It is possible that they used their abillity, their skill, to set them selfs up on higher positions in the social sistem, and that these positions are automaticly allowing them to stay undetected, while practicing their way of life, and beliefs.
Somebody would say I am too much roleplaying, but I am openminded to everything.
I dont think they really exist in our society. However there are still strange and wonderful things being discovered all the time so anything is possible.
The existence of Vampires, an old debate on Vampire Rave and probably timeless. You might be able to find some good information on this subject by doing a forum search too :)
No they cant exist. Vampires are not real they are just a myth
it would be really cool, but i dont think they could exist, we would have detected them.
I think if there was they would be detected. They would actually stand out amongst society
anything is posible, one of us might be one, just sitting around abserving us and pos. laughting. but seriously until we find out for sure we hafto assume, just like big foot and locnes, tha they do exist.
My answer to your original question is no I dont think there are any real vampires.
But if there were, then I think they could exist in society, if they could find a way of taking blood without killing etc.
This age of technology means they would'nt have to step outside in the daylight......can't think of much a clever person can't do online.
They are only a myth in the first place, but if they were to exist in a modern day society, i don't believe they would go unnoticed, people would pick up on mysterious deaths and disappearances and that would bring them all out for the world to see...
Most of you have said that if they did exist, it wouldn't be possible for them to live amongst us undetected. However, in certain myths the Vampire has been said to have a hypnotic power. Don't you think that if they possessed this trait, they could hypnotize you into forgetting you had ever seen them?
Also, if Vampires possess certain physical traits such as pale skin, luminescent eyes, etc., would that really be something to go by in todays society, seeing as anybody can apply white foundation or purchase color contacts... even buy prosthetic fangs or file their own canines into sharp points?
Also, with today's technology and overgrown population, it would be much easier for Vampires to take blood and go unnoticed. They wouldn't even have to kill their victims, neccissarily.
As for their 'supernatural' speed, agility, etc.... that can be easily masked, as Vampires have been said to be great immitators, and can pretty accurately portray itself as human.
These are all just hypothetical.
Do you find a flaw in any of these theories, if they were to be true, that could expose Vampires to the public?
Lucifer .... aren't there many mysterious deaths and dissapearances anyway, without the help of Vampires, going on now?
LP -
Most of those mysterious deaths and disappearences are almost always found out. Most of the victims of mysterious disawhatevers are found out to have been raped or strangled -same with deaths-. Nothing shows evidence towards 'vampires' being involved.
Okay, so you are hypnotized into forgetting that you are possessed by a Vampire, so what explains the puncture holes that the fangs leave?
I beleive it is possible they could have gone undected for this long. Really anything that has not been proved or disproved is possible, like angeldemorte said the lore is no different then loch ness or bigfoot and a lot of people beleive that they exist.
Hmmm...
You said hypothetically speaking, yes?
Well I would have to say that if this were the case and we are not talking about the vampire's we have grown to love on television ( My children at this second are watching Scooby Doo vampires ) I would have to say that Yeah, I think they could go living unnoticed, why not? I mean really if you want to blend in, you can do that easy, if you want to stand out, well that is just as easy to do. I would think that they would "hide" that side more for fear of being discovered?
This is hypothetically speaking of course!
*Grins*
Yes, I never thought of the puncture marks lol
Okay.....what if our vampire attracted a number of people to live as a family/coven ?
Blood as required in return for a safe place to stay.......a fair trade so to speak.
If the vampire were clever, I think it would be easy to exist in an urban center. People can live anonymously in a 24-hour city, and there's immense toleration for alternative lifestyles. The most urgent problem they'd be confronted with is the same one we all deal with --- getting money. If they had any kind of psi ability, I'd say go to Vegas. Just stay away from those CSI people.
It is more than possible, it is a fact. There are many documented cases of true life vampires, however, they are hidden by society by labeling the individuals as serial killers and/or schizophic individuals. The perfect example is the case of Richard Trenton Chase. To see this case please view the folowing site:
http://www.crimelibrary.com/serial_killers/weird/haigh/index_1.html
tellin the truth i really dont know i think im practically departing from the vampireistic life of me but i am trying to stay with it
Nocna Mora, this is all HYPOTHETICAL.
And not ALL who are lost are found. And sometimes, when they are, their bodies are decomposed to a certain degree... cause of death can remain unknown.
hypothetically speaking, if they were really vampires true vampires i do think they could exist.now adays there are blood banks and all the basic blood they could ever want.all a vampire would have to do is buy a blood bank and make it to where they get all the blood they will ever need.
Unexplained animal attacks. People vanishing without a trace. Jane Doe's time and again, with no leads to killers or even unexplaine causes of death.
Could hypothetical Vampires exist in our time and go undetected? Well considering how many things poeple refuse to believe, and would write off as just unexplainable. I would have to say yes. They very well could and probably do. But most would argue they are creatures of mere myth than face the idea that something intellegent is out there using them like cattle. LOL
Well you must remember if they do exist wouldn't they have control in a way just like in blade?
I mean think of the power they would hold threating ones family so that the human would do there bidding.
All I am trying to say is this when they bite and kill they would not leave it in the open.
I have heard that a dormant society seals its self up and then binges once every 25 years.A Carney told me about this cult following that care take for and even commit abductions for the Society.
There are so many 'different' people living in 'different' societies around the world it is impossible to say that vampires do not exist. I believe that it would be very easy for a vampire to conceal themselves in todays modern society. There are so many unidentified bodies & unexplained deaths it would be easy for any of them to have been killed by a vampire. how easy would it be for a vampire to remove the evidence of the bite before discarding the body? Also everyone is assuming that vampires only live/feed in the developed countries like america/UK. what about all the developing countries where so many people die every day? There are no post mortums in these countries so even if vampire bites were left intact it would probably be put down to evil forces at work & left alone!
What if our governments know about the existence of vampires & choose not to let us know? They could make evidence just disappear very easily! We are far to trusting of what we get told by people in power & the press & not trusting enough of what we feel in our hearts & minds!
I believe it is quite possible, although some humans would be quite oblivious.
World is full of wonder and mystery. We can make of them what we choose. But no,no immortal Vamps in my belief system.I think theyre out there, but not in that capacity.
Anything can be possible but it would be kind of hard to not be known if you must hunt among the mortals.
Do you think that if Vampires DID exist, they would have some form of population control.... for instance, a new vampire can't be created for every ___ years. Or, a vampire can only awaken somebody once during their existance?
there would HAVE to be some kind of population control
I would like to think that they exist and do believe that they could remain undetected. I am sure that a creature that has been around that long would know how to succesfully shield oneself.
To be honest nodody knows, and i certainly dont, so i don't know what to believe. We can only assume, people have different beliefs and it might be a possibilty or it might now be
I agree with doru, I beleive that if the lore was true some might of been caught and concealed as seriel killers.
Do you all think that an old-world vampire could successfully assimilate to our environment, after all the dramatic changes in technology that took place during the 20th century?
I mean, don't you think as the technology was developing that it would have been hard for them all to adjust?
I don't think it's possible they go undetected. The bodies of their victims would be found, or the person[if still alive] would say something.
Glitter, don't you think they could possibly get their supply from a blood bank? And with technology today, what about artificial blood, for those 'vegetarian' vampires haha.
They could probably replicate the composition of human blood with today's technology, don't you think? The taste would probably be more satisfying than that of animal blood...
I think that you've read Stephenie Meyer's 'Twilight' series too much, LP.
Anything is possible, there are so many abandoned places that a fictional Vampire could hole up in it isn't funny. As for feeding a Vampire has his/her choice of many, from the homeless living under bridges to the different animals.
haha
NoncaMora, I have read more than the Twilight series [which is not the only work of literature that mentions 'vegetarian' vampires]... actually, I have read amy fair share of Vampire fiction... each story seems to have a different theory on the abilities and limits of a vampire.
Which is why I created this topic. If ANY of the qualities given to vampires in fiction were TRUE, could they possibly exist and thrive unnoticed?
I dont think they could survive unnoticed. Not in todays society. I mean yes they would have to really try because of how people are today.
They would not go unoticed. They would be here in these forums and similar (although not nearly as cool) cyber communities having these conversations.
Besides, Vampires do exist, they are real. Just ask one of any handful of them here, they will tell you. ;}
Tego - [To the second half of your message]
Oh really now?
Hypothetically? I suppose they could exist and go unnoticed. There are so many "alternative lifestyles" these days that it would seem they could live among the rest of society and just be that "other group"
haha
I'm sure the immortals would take great delight in leading us on a wild goose chase looking for them as well, Tego.
not many things these days go undetected.. even cold cases get solved eventually.
and if people start turning up drained dry.. well that would be a huge red flag!
Unless they find some other mark that could show how they were drained, PS.
I don't know I never rule out the possibility that anythings possible.
sure ... like an animal and hung to drain than thats easy but 2 puncture marks thats not explainable very easy
i doubt it but you never know what i do know is that we have had to learn to adapt to the times it gets very simpel change or die
Only way possible would be so few in numbers. Take small amts. from many, very hard to do nowadays. Nice dream though.
othis -
I'm taking the 'we' you said and assuming its meant for people.
I dont believe that they can. Mainly because immortality is impossible. In time the human body wears down and is no longer able to sustain life. I dont think drinking blood would be able to keep the human body living longer than it is supposed to. If it did then everybody would be drinking blood to live forever. As for going undetected in society they might be able to for a while. If there was a large group it would eventually be noticed. Because if they kill their victim after they are finished then the body count would eventually add up. The only way to keep this from happening would be to travel to different areas of the world every time they needed to feed again.
Don't you think that if there was such a thing as this type of immortal vampire that there would be a substantial ammouont of willing donors, what with the fascination that we seem to have with vampire folklore anyway?
LP -
People would probably be afraid of them did they actually exist.
Hmmm... I believe that most people would be, yes. But a lot of people who are VERY into the Vampire subculture I am sure would be willing to donate to these 'mythical' vampires, as real vampires today have donors as well.
I do think anything is possible and the existence of an immortal vampire is not out of that realm of possibility. Since they would be immortal they would have learned to adapt and adjust as society changed. This would mean they would have all the advantages of technology and otherwise to play with which would make it quite possible for them to go unnoticed and hidden.
When push comes to shove, those people who wuss out and run away screaming.
That is true, NoncaMora. However, I would like to think that there would be methods in which a kind of trust would have to be built between vampire and donor before any blood-transferring could take place.
Besides, I'm sure that if somebody went around claiming to be a real immortal vampire looking for a donor, they wouldn't be taken too seriously by most.
Probably wouldn't be taken seriously by anyone. More than likely the person couldn't provide proof and would wind up in a mental institution,.
in my oppinion anything is possible.every day we see miracles that we never would have if there weren't people and things out there that we really dont believe are out there.
I just can't make myself believe that mythical vampires could exist in reality and go undetected...
even after hearing legends about serial killers who supposedly drank blood from their victims...which COULD be true, mind you...just to be told that they were seen frequenting the house where the murders occurred, long after their deaths...AND they seemed to possess supernatural powers.
Please.
I'm an open minded guy.
Tell me that Joe Blow from Sheboygan Wisconsin, is a vampire because he enjoys drinking human blood...tell me that he loves the sang camp lifestyle and that he works at a Kinko's from 8 to 4...when not pursuing his next donor, he enjoys walks on the beach and listening to James Taylor...
THAT I CAN believe.
I think it is as possible as aliens living among us. Why not?
If things manifest from active imagination... then I think vampires are about to pop up soon because Cancer created a great conduit for cover and a forum for reasoning.
Ok,...i am going to have to say Vampire do exist, but you waist your time trying to find out if they are real or not,...if you want to know if their real go to someone named "Levaunt Vamreis Venous" i know him very well...*smiles deeply* if you want, all you need to say is, "Show me if a Vampire is real", and he'll show you...he'll show you...*smiles deeply again* he lives in San Fransico, California...deep in the middle of the city, in the alley way on the corner of 26th & Cherry st.
I don't believe that there are "real" vampires living amongst us right now but I do believe that it would be physically possible.
The possibility of aliens living among us isn't high at all, though.
I would post a longer and entirely more educated answer, but I'm too lazy and tired.
The answer is NO.
Haha Well, there are aliens living right here in America. My mother, for instance.
As for extraterrestrial aliens... I'm not so sure?
I wasn't including illegal 'aliens'. I say 'aliens' in that last sentence because I don't know the proper spelling of the word 'immigrant'.
Yes you do. You used it! lol. I think she was joking, anyway.
I did? She was? Oh god I so shouldn't post when I'm ... I have no clue.
no, i don't think so. I think it's just a myth that has been over-exaggerated by Hollywood to convince the common people that they do exist.
uniquebeauty -
The 'myth' vampire started long before Hollywood.
Yes, I am aware of that. I was simply stating that the myth existed and Hollywood used it as an opportunity to create a new genre of film
In her defense, she never said that Hollywood started the myth. Just that they propagated it moreso than anyone else in recent history.
And I agree, they don't exist. It's an impossibility.
Thank you La6Muerte66...and I do agree with you that it is an impossibility. Certainly if they did exist people would have found out by now. The missing people would be a big clue for sure.
lol. Everyone has their off days.
But the concept of a corpse being reanimated with some semblance of intelligence, sucking the blood from the living in order to survive is an incredibly silly concept, riddled with foolish superstition.
Agreed. Hell ... zombies becoming reality sounds more logical than vampires existing.
I agree. Even if the corpse was reanimated somehow, how would it have any sort of intelligence if its brain is rotten or even more likely, REMOVED?
Wouldn't. Plus the deprivation of oxygen wouldn't do wonders to the braincells.
Well, shit. If the whole body has been reanimated, I guess you could pretend that the brain cells would be restored as well, but as I understand it, the brain is usually removed prior to burial and replaced with stuffing of some sort.
Its possible I guess, that they'd be restored to some extent.
But the brain removing part is something I've never heard before.
I read it in (be gentle) a Stephen King story. It was news to me, but it made sense. Replace it with stuffing and embalming fluid to prevent the face from caving in. Whatever the case, I make no claim that it's true, it's just something I think is done before burial.
Hm ... That would actually make sense. The face collapsation wouldn't look too good.
And that also would point towards the vampires non-existance fact.
