Has anyone besides myself read the book the Necronomicon and if so di anyone do any of the spells or rituals in the book to bring out spirits. other than the Q i have already ask ...would you do the spells to see if an evil spirit will apear yes or no.i would like to know all opinions please.and why.
The Necro is a dangerous tool, if you read it, than you did not understand its meaning...You cannot just read it like a novel. Most of whom read it and understand it, go mental as it as a tool is a gateway to other sides of reality.
Do not try any of the rituals described in said book, as these are rather dangerous. You could loose your life if successful.
The Necronimicon is a piece of fiction. It was mentioned in a fiction book, nad then written later in order to give his work more validity. It is entirely fiction.
I have read this book and own a copy of said book. It is completely real and dangerous to the light hearted. That which I have done from the book works and works well. I WOULD NOT recommend it to anyone that is not ready to meet the darkest possible form of themselves. I will neither confirm nor deny the fact of going "mental" by the use and reading of said book.
soulshroude you speak the truth about this book yes but with out all the part to it no door ways will open and the other parts of the original text is strewed all over the world because i gave done some of the spells and the rituals and i am still here.
I understand this yes, but did you actually pronounce the proper words and terms in their entirety and correctly...The pages missing are ment to be missing, as these pages are for raising the dead. As well as other "minor" details partaining to the other world.
yes soulshoude i have done the in there correctness and i know why the pages are missing for good reason too i have a copy of the hard cover given to me by my grandmother yrs ago along with many of her old books.
I started reading it but it gives me headaches everytime I touch the book. So I stopped trying to read it.
the question i ponnder on..is it perhaps so tht Lovecraft wanted to tell us some truth in the wrappings of fiction??...
I have heard that you aren't to try anything in it. I can't recall if I personally owned it, or if it was my ex's. But it wasn't a book you could simply read through, like some spell book. From what I understand, it's not to be messed with and can open doors you don't want opened. It brings into this world, "things" that cannot be controlled and end up turning on you.
I have never read this book.. I have skimmed through the pages in the book store.. But like anything .. You can make it real if you believe in it… if you put time studying it.. Like the Bible , the Black Bible.. And demonology …. Your mind makes it real.. And when you teach it to others… it becomes real to them… We as a species have the gift of choice….. But every choice has an affect….
I personally have not read any part of it, but do know someone who is familiar with it. He says it is real and it is dangerous. It's only for very advanced levels, and is something not to be taken lightly or toyed with.
No I haven't read it and by the sounds of it don't think I will want to.

PS--I have the Necromanic tarot. It is a signed deck by the designer. I bought it years ago in a New Age book store. It's quite dark. I don't like to mess with it. It's weird though, because I don't want to get rid of it.
mess with in the sense you didnt try it at all? try...use...errrr you get wht i mean

No, I have not read that particular book.
From what little I understand about magic, a tool can be made of pretty well anything.
So, fiction or not I would think the book could be used by those interested in such things.
As for wanting to 'raise' evil spirits myself.....well, having dealt with the evil within, evil without does not particularly bother me.
No I have not had that opportunity yet to read it, but have intended to do so for some time now. I cannot say whether I would or would not do the rituals listed in the book, because I dont know what they are at this point. But magick is very real and does infact work, as I have seen first hand on numerous occasions.
I only read about it from Lovecraft. I always thought it was fiction.
The Necronomicon is a fictional book from the stories of horror writer H. P. Lovecraft. It was first mentioned in Lovecraft's 1924 short story "The Hound", written in 1922, though its purported author, the "Mad Arab" Abdul Alhazred, had been quoted a year earlier in Lovecraft's "The Nameless City".[1] Among other things, the work contains an account of the Old Ones, their history, and the means for summoning them.
Other authors such as August Derleth and Clark Ashton Smith also cited it in their works; Lovecraft approved, believing such common allusions built up "a background of evil verisimilitude." Many readers have believed it to be a real work, with booksellers and librarians receiving many requests for it; pranksters have listed it in rare book catalogues, and one smuggled a card for it into the Yale University Library's card catalog.[2]
Capitalizing on the notoriety of the fictional volume, real-life publishers have printed many books entitled Necronomicon since Lovecraft's death
Yaken ftom http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Necronomicon
Note the term FICTION!
This book has always been a joke among spell casting circles, and often used as a term of derision.
eg. I have been doing spells for ages now
What from the Necronomicon muhahaha
I dont know what to think about this so famously acclaimed book. Many say it is magical and dangerous, many say it is just a useles fiction. What is the truth behind the book? Who can really say it with certainty?
I've read it thoroughly once, and re-read/skimmed through it a second time.
Interesting book, regardless of which way you want to see it.
i.e. fiction/non-fiction.
I will have to read it.. I read alot so add another new book to that list.
I have not read the book, but I can say that I would not do a spell to bring out evil spirits
Neither would I. There is enough evil floating around with out my help.
Yes, I have it. It came for free with my copy of LaVey's Satanic Bible.
It's a poorly executed, random and childish babbling.
A shameless rip-off and plagiarism of Lovecraftian novels and shorts, and the Enouma Elish.
There is nothing ancient about it, and nothing magical about it. Anyone could write stuff like that and scribble up some signs to call up demons. "If it doesn't work, you didn't do it right". Give me a break.
If you're talking about this socalled Sumerian script, that is.
If, on the other hand, you're talking about the Book of the Dead, it's very interesting reading and a captivating look into the religious practices and mythology of the egyptian society.
I would like to thank everyone so far for all of your views and coments i would like more view from everyone here as to this book.
Lovecraft got his idea for writing the book from a ancient spellbook with the same title written in 730 A.D. by Abdul Alhazred. The Necro.was featured in the movie "Army of Darkness", as a result of the movie which was a big cult hit the idea of the Necro. and it's 'powers' was reborn into the minds of cultist everywhere.
As for me I am a big time skeptic, if I don't hjave proof then I can't say if it is real or not.
I truly and deeply hope that atleast some of you are LARP'ing.
Yes I read it and the book written about it.
This is very well crafted piece of fiction.
Thanks H.P. for the memories.
I havent read it but has wanted to..Cant find a copy of it, even online so if anyOne can help please do..And what gets me is the unbelievers here..I know some of what we hear is baloney but...The Unnown is real, magic and spells are real.. Well I for one believe this..I only have copies of The Satanic Bible, The Demonic Bible and the Black Book..
Barnes and Noble, Amazon.com or Borders.
If you google NECRONOMICON you'll find it.
Also try H. P. Lovecraft.
Usually found in the Occult section.
I have not read it and after reading all of the responses am not sure if I ever will.
I honestly dont care if it is fiction or no,he lived it regadless..even if it was in his mind.Touch it and the link to that mind is in place...no thanks.
No i havent and i dont plan on it i have heard that if your read fromm front to back you go mad
I read the book when I was an angry teenager and yes I tried to enact some of the spells. Of course, they failed. No demons were unlocked that I am aware of, and a week later I had thrown the book to the side in order to pursue another fad spellbook. Thanks Barnes and Noble and other commericial book sellers for giving authentic mass produces of rare and powerful documents!
Soulshroude,
I very much agree that you can lose your mind or your life if you do not take care in working with it, just like any thing else.
Personally I have successfully rewritten many of the charges, and recombined several of the rites to bring about even more potent results, there are sideeffects, but nothing so exteneous.
I have never seen the that book as a tool for being destructive and dangerous. For me that book is filled with the best wards, protects and safegaurds to anything anyone can throw at me, it is a wonderful tool in understanding how to safely access the gates, and unite with the things on the other side and come away without being obliterated.
Only idiots see it for the tool to conjure up the forgotten things, with the sigils and such of pazuzu and other sumerian demons. However it is a good exercise in knowing how the ancients summoned forces like that when you compare the work to the grimoires of the middle ages.
Anyway, as far as Oceannes post goes, she shouldn't speak to harshly on never reading it. Its not something which should be denied because of its history, and the capcity one has with it to be able to be safe gaurded from things which make up the night or day for that matter.
Thanks Tego....And I am mad already so..I also know if any kind of magic or spells isnt used right, it can backfire on you..Anyone with a lil sense should know that also..Karma is a bitch
any one who has ever looked into black magick knows this book is just a fictional work. and i agree with carsho on this, many of the names of the ancient ones and some of the referrals are very similiar to Crowley's books and there maybe traces of truth to it, but i have to say it is fictional
I have read the copies that you can buy at the book store. No I have not yet done any of the rituals in the book. Not sure if I ever will try them.
I have a copy of it, i have read it through like 100 times, i have also done back up research on the Chaldeans as they are mentioned in there as well.... I have done only the opening ritiual... the rite of passage for climbing the stair of light.... while it was a very empowering experience... it has taken a bit of a tole on me.... i havent had the heart to really do any more untill i fully understand what has happened now.... I can however say that the watcher is very real and that if you were thinking about trying any of it... either dont... or make sure you follow everything to a 'T'.... honestly.... i reccommed walking away from it.... its not for the faint of heart or those who do not have an appreation and respect for such things.
I have heard many things about the book and have seen it in several forms.
1) The first time and most frequent form was versus printings that came out about the same time as the “anarchist cookbook” I remember thinking that who would buy the book of ultimate evil at Walden bookstore.
I refer to the “anarchist cookbook” because later when I went into the marines I studied Improvised munitions and explosives I learned that the things that were left out of the anarchist cookbook found at Walden’s could kill you; there version had been edited from the underground version put out in the 60’s.
The same with the Weldon’s (by Walden’s I mean any mass published example) version of the necromonicon. The more I progressed upon my other paths the more I looked on that book with derision, first note there are no banishing spells just summoning, and before you say “I will use my keys of Solomon” think why would those keys work on supposedly elder gods? Secondly, that version just seamed a contrived open call to any dark force or entity that chose to answer.
2)I have seen/examined a hand written version in Latin with English translations purported to be three hundred years old, I am no expert but would have said it was less than 20 years old at the time, just from wear, materials, and use of language in the foot notes. I refused to participate in or observe the ritual so my account of their limited success are second hand, temperature changes in the area, fire burning deep red than blue, producing foul smelling smoke, the feeling of a presence. What I have first hand is that for the rest of his life my friend had a problem with burns. As in he always had one or more healing burns at any given time, just unlucky with fire.
No I haven't read it and by the sounds i am going to look in to it and see how i like it...
InfernalMage
I did not see the wards, protects, and safeguards contained in the books I saw, though I will admit to only light study, of them with no application performed by me.
I have read the Necronomicon a couple of times entirely and have also read it half way through on my third attempt. Something inside me stopped me from completing it the third time, i don't know what.
In my opinion, it is an excellent piece of work, and not something to be trifled with. It is dangerous and can cause madness and possibly even death.
I have to say that anyone who attempts any of the spells that are included in the copies of the necronomicon that are available widely in specialist book shops is either foolish, or has not understood the necronomicon in it's entirety.
In the book, there is actually a passage that basically states that it is not actually possible to cast any of the spells within it sucessfully as they are incomplete. This in itself should warn people to research more deeply and find a way to complete the rituals within this most dangerous of books.
Mener
As I understand there are a couple books … one was invented by hp lovecraft and to his death bed says he made it up.
Book of names by Simon is believed to be real. most famous is the book of the dead… once again a misrepresentation it is really called “ coming forth by day”
Basically how to make the unconscious existence brought forth into the light of the conscious. Servitor demons ghost angels…. All very achievable and in the wrong minds dangerous for sure
carsho
The Necronimicon is a piece of fiction. It was mentioned in a fiction book, and then written later in order to give his work more validity. It is entirely fiction.
Here here Carsho please folks stop mixing reality with fictional works Just like he book Dracula a work of fiction no more real then Dracula,
More likely get more meaning and even possible truth from the Tibetan Book of the dead
wow.....there have been 7 different works all combined under the same thought that its the same piece...
this thread has gone to hell with people who dont care to do enough proper study into these things.
the lesser key -
the greater key
the grand grimoire
the red dragon
the tibetan book of the dead
the egyptian book of the dead
the necronomicon - the simon copy
the fictional references made by Hp lovecraft (do your homework people theres stuff in the simon ed which lovecraft could not have done properly)
no where in the text does it say that it is all fragmented, yes it states that some are, but anyone who does their homework can make proper usage of it.
Know the titles of books and what they containe before trying to pick them apart.
The word "Necronomicon" was coined by HP Lovecraft. He never claimed influence from any 'real' necronomicon and the Mad Arab who is it's purported author is also a fictional character.
That being said, if you practice Chaos Magic, then a books fiction beginnings is no roadblock towards using it as a focus in ritual. However, the "old ones" (like Cthulhu or the Great Race of Yith) that the Necronomicon claims to be able to summon, don't actually exist so I wouldn't expect any luck in that area at least.
Any book thereafter published has usually been admitted to as a hoax and I believe the one by Simon is included in that. The history of it as I recall was that a spell shop in New York received so many requests for it after the popularity of it's use in fiction and movies that they decided to make one of their own and simply grabbed bits and pieces of Sumerian text and ritual combined with Norse ritual and pagan ritual in order to make a sufficiently creepy sounding read.
felix read the book of dead names by simon, it gives complete history on the work, its aquisition, and the Warlock shop. up to and including all the references to the works by idiots who claim the work as fiction or try and up the book any more then what it was orginally stated.
a work with greek, arabic, and sumerian parts which acts as an athroplogical study as well as insight into a religous practice which had already endure thousands of years of fragements and revisions, no where near complete in its singluar source referal for any one time.
like any grimoire the grand grimoire included, people have added to its content over hundreds of years of work. any proper grimoire is a living work which will never meet its end, because there is always room to adjust the ceremony, fix the wording, up date the correspondences. No work of ceremony or ritual is a dead work, and the callings of Kutulu, are from the spirits in the land of Kutulu- from the dead....so any reference to the octopus of ultimate evil, doesn't, isnt, nor supported anywhere in any of the works by simon, infact he says as much several times.
It gives a complete FICTIONAL history on the work, which itself also is FICTION.
Cthulhu, or kutulu as Simon would correct or simplify it, has no basis in the sumerian mythology or legends it is claimed to. Cthulhu is entirely made up by Lovecraft, and it's very mention in Simon's Necronomicon is a testament to it's complete and utter falsity.
There is no magic or hocus pocus filiocus in there people. It's a non-scary book version of the Blair Witch movie hype.
which came from 1960.....and the blair witch stuff was what the 90s?
If Simon is so willing to acknowledge that this book is a thousand fragments of various ritual and history, then why does he insist on continuing the charade that the book was written by Abdul Alhazred and that he merely 'translated and published' it. No one should seriously believe that Abdul Alhazred ever lived. Alhazred doesn't even appear to be a genuine muslim name. Simon has to acknowledge the books fiction origin but the back of the book still claims that his book was written in the 8th Century by the 'mad arab'.
Not just the Blair Witch movie. Back in the 70's, the Cannibal Holocaust director was arrested and interrogated by the police because he said that the people in his movie really died, to increase the hype. He had to call the actors in to prove it was just a movie.
Seriously, it seems people will believe anything they're told. Reading Simon's Necronomicon from front to back does not make you mad. That is very easy to prove; read it. And following the spells to the letter will not make demons appear. Also easy to prove; try the spells. It doesn't work.
IT DOESN'T WORK, PERIOD!
creating a fictional book of dark spells was genius! i tip my proverbial hat!
what i mean is angsty teens can go into Chapters (or othersuch chain bookstore) and buy such a book, cast utterly schmo spells that fail every time - BRILLIANT!
...and then they still insist the spells are real, by claiming they're just not smart enaugh to make them work.
Quite a situation.
To bridge mythos and pathology light the fuse to t5he thing that should not be
the name unsaid
as a warning to letting pathos and mythos combine Hp Lovecraft went to the far end of "could-this-be?"
and if it is not would anyone manifest it?
he even created a place to study and store those who crossed the threshhold of mythos and brought fragments to "reality"
he called it Arcum Acadamy and even made an Asylum.
A fair warning for those who blur the fiction with fact.
well i thank you for all coments and concerns about this said book and i would like more coments from more of you this has been very informational and it is good to know some of us share the same views.
i have read it its an intresting read how ever the book of the dead is much beter
To awaken things that should not be thought to exist could they be manifest?I think HP Lovecraft saw the possible hysteria that horror fiction had and would create...His work arranged the Phycological Phobias and twisted the reader to near belief then yanked the carpet out from under them...letting them fall back into his taunting tales.
Catulu has following simular to vampire lore.
Yep Simon still insists the book is real.
I was listening to him on a radio show last month.
It was on coast to coast radio, you can still listen to it in the files but you have to be a member like $50 a year… lots of great stuff in there.
Or torent download it …. Im sure it’s out there just type coast to coast and look for simon.
http://www.coasttocoastam.com/gen/page1584.html
But he insists his is real and he is still a preacher in the church, he got the original documents from a underground catholic organization after Germany bombed Poland two guys forged papers saying they were priest and a bishop and started a secret organization that stole and sold documents from the Vatican ect
That is where the document got out
At one time the book was caught in a contract dispute.People lost intrest in it because the church stopped protesting it.
along comes a second updated version released under a non-fiction label with unchecked cross references. The sales climb again for the Mad Arads book.Note all reference to the Followers was removed to avoid people from referancing back to works of fiction.
So Simon is suggesting that OTO picked up the 'real' necronomicon from the Catholic Church in the vatican archives and that everything HP Lovecraft wrote about it was influenced by real facts?
Does Simon in his infinite wisdom suggest how a pulp horror writer from the 1920's managed to gain a peek at this fabled book locked away from everyone else and why he'd never suggested such a thing in his own letters and writing? Also perhaps Simon could explain why HP Lovecraft is the first person to coin the term "Necronomicon" since prior to his works, it was never used at all?
Never heard of it until now then again I don't do much reading either.
I think HP Lovecraft would laugh to know that his works created such a stir.Even his characters in books where drawn into mythos the unshakable fear that fiction could manifest
and still be doubted away as notional is in its own right just as remarkable as the projected arguement of authanticity as some would benifit from others believing.
Some have even gone over board with The Illuminate series ...convinced there is hidden meaning inside the story...Even the Di Vince Code has a fanatical cult following.Skilled writers ,with impressionable readers...hmmm I need to go write a book....with hints to real imagined events.
it is rel and i have used it it changed my be very careful if you do use it masher that has a lot of power i have not lost it but it dos oping up your mind so be very aware of that and i do have the necronomicon tarot it is nothing compared to the book i like the tarot a lot
i think i will pass that book up sounds very dangerous
read it and enjoyed this piece of fiction
and as felix says the name Alhazred is not even a real arab name its more likely a small joke in his name, a sage named all has read??? hmm that was a brainbender :P
and i would like to see someone pronounce the spells it contains as they are merely letters written down, their fonetics aren't even mentioned and how would you pronounce a dead language to utter perfection??
If I wrote a book with reference to Mac Donalds would that make the book edible?
So a book written as an example of hyped imagination and the possible effects on mass consciousness by an author who kept company with professional shrinks and society circles could not resist playing on their vunerability. To ad flare he may have reffered to text from the Cabalist to give gravity to the allusion of depth. So some fanatic researcher
with a loose end to tye in his ill fallen research or even to support a hoax all his own.Digs up Cabal text (formerly available to only sect followers)and tweeks the publication for rerelease.and re-hype. Has their been a thread on Crowleys writting?
I'm sure Simon realizes that he's making good money and celebrity on this and has no intention of ever clearing the air. It's likely become a bit of a joke for him as well now that he's 'in on it' and Lovecraft can't defend himself.
Please remember that historically, there is NO mention of the word "necronomicon" before HP Lovecraft. I defy you to bring forward any historical record of this word. There's not even a legitimate translation of what it means (it's etymology could be called greek but only because it uses greek base words). There's no record of its use in greek history. Egyptian and Tibetan books of the dead were never referred to as a necronomicon until after Lovecraft brought the word forward.
I also find it immensely interesting that Simon would claim that his is real and Lovecrafts is a lie since the character that Simon said wrote his version is the fictional character Lovecraft brought to life (ie Alhazred).
Look the point is that if you want to use it in magical rites, that's entirely your choice and both Chaos Magic and LaVey Satanism are totally ok with using fiction as a focus but even both of those belief systems acknowledge that it's clearly not productive to kid yourself about what's real and what's fiction. So use the book but don't be fooled into believing that it's origin was anything other than fictional.
Well stated Felix. Also Worth study is the effect this hype creates upon others that have no religious faith system,as well as those that denounce the bible...could the desire to be against something be so strong in them that they would embrace another much more recent fiction in defiance?
Example: someone says" I don't believe in Jesus",but they believe the easter bunny is real.
Or do people invest so much on something they were lead into that to let go would exclude them from something they are very much connected to and dedicated to.
Paganism and the Easter Bunny are two very different things Dabbler.
I have read the Necronomicon, actually a couple of different versions of it. One was based on the Sumero-Babylonian gods. The spells in the book are well thought and and disciplined.
I hjave not read it but heard of it I say that it is not for the faint of heart.
All so what is so wrong with the rising of the dead???
I mean would that leave there souls without peace or something??
The Day the Earth Stood Still the Broadcast that cause panic was not a real event.
"My great grand dads best friend saw the flying saucers land and he followed the progress of the cover-up."
So do you want to buy a copy of my book?
Ok dabbler we get the point.
Please stop trying to change the goal post to win an a debate.
Easter bunny and jesus are not the same nether is a book about a ufo you mates seen.
Simon was on a radio show and was asked all the questions under the sun….. with out knowing what he said how can you debate it?
Ever think the name alhazred is translated to All Hazard???
heh.....*washes hands of this thread*
such useless wastes of server space. This whole thread has become nothing more then ignorance and idiocy. People raise your standards on the quality of your posts, you look like idiots aside from Lavis and Souls, and the one who started this thread there is nothing of quality or value here, missing the entire point of the initial question.
This should have been closed, or at least brought to life in a new way, its a great question for those who aren't spoon fed ignorance.
I have read it, I own a copy actually. I think it's a nice read and a cool book but I don't think it holds any truth or importance.
The NECRONOMICON was a “prop” used in a 1922 story as others have pointed out and is not and never has been a real book of its own. The fact that anyone may have a copy of a book with the same title just means they wasted money on a book filled with trash and cobbled together mumbo jumbo to help some author make money.
i have read it years ago,it is believed to be fake but i believe now by all who read it and had faith in it's words have made it real by using the power of their mind, for i have heard some interesting and quite strange stories regarding the necro,ah the mind is a tool that can creat anything if you believe enough.
it does not exist,HP Lovecraft invented it and was amazed that people would write to him asking for a copy.somebody must have written one to sell to the gullable.
Sooo, the majority of you think the book is a fake, fiction huh? Alright, explain why the three that I have owned throughout my life have all self-destructed, as in set themselves on fire. This was after doing something I will not explain online about to the book, regarding a pentacle I used to wear.
Believe what you want...I witnessed too many things to be calling the book in any form or edition fiction or fake.
i think the necronomicon now days is as real to the believer as scientoligy is to those that practice that faith.
I, personally, would not perforn any spells or rituals concerning the dead or anything else I felt I could not control. Just because you CAN do something, doesn't mean you SHOULD do something.
Soulshroude why would it be dangerous to bring to life the dead.
This thread has been interesting and entertaining but the arguments we do not need. Sounds like we need to toss a coin. Heads real, tails fiction.
