For those of you who believe in possession, I've got a question.

Is multiple possession possible? In other words, can one spirit possess multiple bodies?

This is not a yes or no question, please back up your reasoning.

yes it is possible, I've seen it, not often but I did...but there is always a dominant spirit and controling the others.

I've heard stories about this happening to a family member of mine, I'm just not sure if it's true.

I think its really possible... I mean, one of my best friends, me and her haven't known each other that long (about a year and a half, two years-ish) And it took us a little over three months to become like sisters... I think its like one of those things where as long as two people are close and the soul is shared between the two bodies, it awakens both parts to their full potential.. or something like that..

I believe it could be yes. People are easily manipulated and I believe it would be easy for a spirit to take over multiple bodies.

I believe so, just like how someone can have multiple personalities.

I don't know first hand..... However....I imagine it possible for many spirits to possess one body....but as I don't see spirits as omnipresent...I don't think that one spirit could possess more than one body at a time.

I suppose it is possible. But it makes me wonder if the spirits influence would be diminished due to the fact that it was in more than one host.

Some times multiple possession is diagnosed as multiple personalities and vise versa...

I believe that mulitple demons or spirits can take over a persons body. I haven't personally seen evidence of this but have read many articles about it.

I haven't seen it personally but I see little reason why it could not happen.

I have performed some 30 exorcisms in the past 4 years and all have been single entities per person.

There were 2 cases where the spirit moved from the person to the home and continued to manifest itself for about a month before they finally left.

A single entity cannot be divided up between hosts.

I don't have any proof perse but how could a single spirit be in two or more places at a time doesn't make sense to me. I do believe in posessions however just not multiple ones by a single source, never heard of such a thing.

I believe that ghosts or spirits can possess anything and anyone they want. In fact I think that yes they can possess more than one person.

No. I think that is completely impossible. I agree with Meeper. Unless you part that soul or spirit in two, (which realistically isn't possible) one spirit can only enter one body. 2 souls entering the same body (I believe) is possible... but one spirit in two places...at the same time? I don't believe that can happen.

I dont think so. I mean, to be 'possessed' the spirit has to be in the body, correct? How can it be in two bodies at once? =S

Well, technically a spirit is not solid. It's air.. I guess, so air could, in theory, possess more than one body. A spirit could possess one body 98% lets say.. and another only 2%. It is a big possibility if the spirit is strong enough.

There have also been stories about such happenings.

Anyone that believes this possession stuff, is more than full of air. Your mind/body/soul body does not allow such a thing to be possible in the first place. It ain't going to happen. The sub-conscious and outside influences are another matter. But to have some alien demon entity inside you, lol, and to try and blame it/them for your actions or lack of them - very childish. Outdated and very irresponsible.

Every source I have seen including in Christian texts multiple possessions are possible. Most references I have seen come from Christian texts especially the Roman Catholic sect. Other cultures have made reference as well, some Native American and Eastern but it’s been a long time sense I studied any of this.

it really does depend on the spirit and the power of the spirits some spirits wont put up with sharing and some are just to strong for more then one to be in the human body with causing some major problems

I guess it could be possible. But it would have to be a very strong in be able to possess more than one person at a time.

We are speaking in theory of course, but one might believe that if there is a remaining soul or spirit that there is some sort of cohesive property about it that binds it together as oppposed to disseminating into a powerless discharge of energy.

Well with the soul not being a solid, and being, as you said meeper, an energy, there is a chance that a spirit can send it's energy (in however big of portions) into multiple bodies. I don't think more than one body can have 100% of the soul that is doing the possessing, but it could possibly give off portions of itself into more than one host.

do you mean that one spirit can say "control" more then one physical body at one time?

I believe so. I mean the devil can possess any being that it wishes more than at that. And I believe if someone wishes to possess more than one body then they can.

To my understanding, a single body can be possessed by mutiple spirits or demons.....but a demon or spirit can not possess multiple bodies at the same time. Matter can not exist in mutiple places at the same moment in time. Thus if your spirit is in its body its in it if you leave your body your spirit leaves, a part of it remains but not the actual spirit?

I am in agreement that it is more likely that multiple spirits and possess one body, but not very likely for one spirit to possess more than one body.

But now as I type this, I think of the possibilty using the religious approach. If everyone is capable of have the holy spririt in them, then this would imply that spirits may indeed be capable of multiple possessions.

I'm not sure if this is true or not i don't necessarly believe in possesion but i do believe in spirits but if i had a choice there is a possible chance it could happen spirits are all around us.. every time a door opens or you feel a wind go by but there is no window open or just something moves but there's no possible way it was wind it's multiple spirts going by you so why couldn't multiple spirits enter your body as well...

I would have to agree with utahvamp as to multiple spirits inhabiting one body, but one spirit cannot inhabit multiple bodies.

One school of thought is that "spiritual" multiple possession in one body is just schizophrenia.

depending on how strong the spirit is,i think it may be possible for one spirit to control many others.if it is a weaker spirit though,it might not be able to hold the control while keeping itself in control as well.

personally I have to say no... the reason? if a spirit/power/demon/angel whatever the case may be, were to handle multiple people they would lose power and they would be worn out fast... I could see 2 people maybe but no more than that... like everything else they get tired too.... LOL ... for lack of a better way to put it!

Interesting concept. All of this being theory, I would think that multiple spirits can inhabit one body but do not see how one spirit/entity can inhabit several bodies. Would take incredible power and control to do that.

Mutliple personalities of course, comes to mind and can see how people hundreds and thousands of years ago with such a disorder could cause people to think that.

I got to thinking and ealier I said I didn't think a demon could posses multiple bodies, but I think maybe it could, its said the holy ghost (LDS Religion), can be everywhere at once speaking to every one in his form, so maybe its the same for any spirit?

Ok, UV, but how can that be deemed actual possession? Just appearing to many at one time is not possessing multiple bodies, just multiple visuals.. sending out a voice and visual is one thing, but to manipulate many bodies at one time, wouldn't that be something different?

I don't think it's possible to possess multiple bodies at the same time. They're already spending too much energy possessing the one body.

the amount of energy used to possess one body must be great
however i do believe a spirit can influence more than one body..
the energy spent would not be as great and the out come a little more chancy, but i believe this happens more often.

My thoughts? No. The spirit body consists of strands of energy that are united for a lifetime. Bound together by the force of what some call "spirit", yet it is an unexplainable bond.

With the complex formation of a spirit, it is NOT possible for it to inhabit more than one body at a time as a whole entity.

Now, far more interesting, is the thought that after a persona dies and their energy is dispersed, perhaps pieces of that previous energy entity wind up in more than one person who then shares a past life bond. Possibly, as always.

Here's something to think about... could a schizophrenic be possessed with a different deamon for each of their personalities?

I do not think so. schizophrenic individuals have a mental disorder. Not a possession per "personality"

i dont think i could be possible because a spirit is just one entity so therefore it would be sorta hard to posses more than one body. Now there could be a possibility for a spirit to posses more than one person if it jumps from body to body.

My first thought was of a puppet master working multiple marionettes. So as someone said earlier...controlling as a form of possession would seem possible through many victims at once.

If by possession, you mean entering and becoming the host, then it would seem difficult to split that consiousness up but again, we're dealing with the theory or idea of a demon and who knows how that spirit could work. The fact is that we believe everything must have a single consciousness because that is what we know of ourselves, but something as a demon or being that was never limited to human bodies and brains may be well beyond the crutch of single conscious thought.

I would say that without intimately knowing how a spirit's consciousness works and how they perceive and act within the world...without knowing that, it's very possible that a spirit could divide it's consciousness between multiple possession victims in a way we couldn't understand. That is of course if you believe in possession at all.

Hmmm well it is possible but only with a very very strong spirit and the ones who are possed by the same spirit are usually very close (spirit kin)

I've seen it happen to a few ppl and I never want to see it again.

My uncle is an alchoholic has been since he was 17 and still is at 50.
When I was about 13 (I'm 18 now)
My family and I went to his house.
My grandmother had called us and told us she and the church elders were going to perform an exorcism.

And she needed us for emotional support and to pray.

So they performed the exorcism and while they were doing this a giant abnormal bulge was forming in his throat almost suffocating him.

Not long afterwards he opened his mouth and out flew a black sphere like thing about the size of a baseball and went hurtling out the window, shattering it.

3 yrs later they performed another one and my grandmother said 7 of them came out.

and about a month ago he started drinking again. I'd hate to see how many come out this time.

because the rule is a demon or spirit will possess you 7x7.

so 49 might be possessing him now.

he also says something climbs in bed w/ him even when he's sober.

he has also woken up and found scratch and bite marks on him even when not drinking

I've never heard the 7x7 rule before. Where does it come from?

I don't think is it possible for one spirt to possess more then one body cause they would have to split their bodys

Nope, don't believe it. Many psychics write about how you cannot be possessed unless you allow yourself to be. Course some people basically welcome and invite it.

Hmm I suppose it could be possible and not possible at the same time. If I think about it it's almost like a vampire effect. You bite one person and they become your slave and you can bite multiple people. But I don't think that's the same as possesing someone. It would take a very large amount of spiritual energy to posses more than one person at a time. I don't know but I would have to focus all my energy on the one person I have possessed I just don't think it's possible the way you are asking about.

I've heard of this happening to people, to have one person control more than one individual. In every instance that I've heard the soul/spirit that is controlling the others has to be exceptionally powerful and has to be exponentially more powerful than the other spirits it controls. Not sure if that made any sense, so let me try and explain what I meant by that. If the controlling spirit is possessing two other spirits who are weak it is easier than if it were possessing two spirits as strong, or stronger, than itself.

I myself Believe one spirit may only haunt or posses one body if it attempts more then one it's a major drain on it's power and the ultimate death to the spirit but only if the spirit is strong enough will it be able to posses more then one body or object and most spirits on haunt or stay where they died for instance the house they died in or vehicle then you also have the spirits that have something to do such as find a true match between people because they did something wrong when they were alive but that's just a belief to people none of it has ever been recorded as a fact.

i believe it is possible though i have only seen cases of multiple entities in one body

Is multiple possession possible?
Yes, for the fact if you were possessed before and are not mentally and spiritually strong then it will be a lot easier for what ever it is to just come back in.

No it can not, it would have to leave one host to go to the other.

I don't really know about that but I think it is possible since you can have multiple personalities then I think it would be possible to have multiple hauntings or possessions

Perhaps the spirit world doesn't rely so much on the "Why" and reasons for doing things. I can't see why multiple spirits would want to possess a single person.

Is there a certain quota for spirits in a body? heh
