so i've read lots of books that involve vampires and their deaths and the only ways that i've heard about on how to kill them is either a stake through the heart, burning them or by cutting of their head.
what i wanted to know is since vampires need blood to survive, can't you just "cut off" their supply to fresh blood and kill them that way?
all thoughts are welcome
But how would this be possible? Vampires supposedly possess super human strength so restraining them probably wouldn't work...and if something gets hungry enough it will find something to eat...
Well.. if your talking about the vampires in books, it all depends on how the author wants her vampires to live. Some only need blood to have energy and all that but can survive from food to.. others dont even die from stakes, they can live through anything. I know in the Buffy series Dracula culd turn into dust and then put himself back to normal, even after she stabbed him in the heart.
If ur talking about now days vampires, obviously they could survive without blood. But the medical vampires that have the blood given to them by doctors wouldnt be able to live as long cuz they do not get iron in their system.
I believe that vampires culd survive off blood, but they wuld jus be weak.
well you could but you would have to put them in a jail like setting lol.
pluse it would take to long to kill them that way.
Vampires can live without feeding for long periods of time (Torpor), entering a state of hibernation where they almost don’t move, sleeping or remaining in the dark without moving.
Torpor is also used in vampire mythology, to describe the state that a vampire enters during the daylight hours. In some legends and fiction, torpor also refers to a period of indefinite hibernation entered by vampires who have gone long periods of time without feeding on blood, or those who've suffered mortal wounds but have not been destroyed.
In some cases, the degree of torpor also suggests said vampire would have been forced into the state by having the blood taken away. A defense mechanism of sorts.
The most common myth is a stake through the heart, but i am not sure about that. beheasing is also another way. But it seems like todays most popular way of killing them is sunlight and watching them burn to a crisp, but again this is all hollywood stuff.
I've always heard without blood a vampire will go into a form of sleep or topor, basiclly hibernating for many years without dying.
Step1Look for a hole above a grave. Sometimes vampires have to dig their way out.
Step2Scatter salt on the floor in the vampire's latest victim's room. Help the vampire lead you right to his or her tomb.
Step3Use garlic, hawthorn branches, or a cross to trap your vampire in a corner. Protect yourself from revenge by making a cross of tar on your front door.
Step4Dig the vampire up on a Friday. According to the early Greeks, that's when a vampire is weakest. Take advantage of the day when vampires can't come out to play.
Step5Pound iron stakes through his coffin and straight into the ground if you catch him at rest.
Step6Bury his body under running water - vampires can't stand it.
Step7Fire a silver bullet blessed by a priest into his heart.
Step8Drive an aspen, ash or white thorn stake through his heart with a single blow if you want to make a lasting impression.
Step9Pour boiling water, boiling oil or holy water into his grave.
Step10Cremate his body or make a paste from his flesh for closure. Then sit down and feast on the beast.
Tips & Warnings
Remember that a vampire in a coffin always appears to be dead already. Examine the body closely and you'll see that the vampire is only breathing slightly, or perhaps not breathing at all.
Brace yourself for plenty of loud screaming and wailing. Wear old clothes or a raincoat, because there's always lots of blood.
Turn your vampire over in his or her grave if you forget your wooden stake. Make sure the vampire digs the wrong way if he or she tries to escape while you're running home to fetch the stake.
The undead tend to have extremely bad breath.
Vampires sleep with their eyes open, so you'd better be quick.
Russians used to think that a vampire's teeth were made of steel, making it possible to chomp through the coffin. Keep your hands and feet away from the vampire's mouth.
Don't forget: Dracula and his ilk don't cast shadows, nor do they have reflections. Plus, they can change into bats or foggy mist instantaneously.
Understand that you must succeed on your first attempt at terminating your vampire. Failure to do so could mean immortality for your victim.
Let me know if it works lol

*furiously copies down Gushions how to kill a vampire*
Well. That would certainly be a challenge :D
From what I know of fictional vampires. Depriving them of blood weakens them and puts them into a coma like state. But they don't die, and if they wake they do have enough strength to kill.
Just my 2 cents worth.
Wow that is actually a good question. What she means is if you caged a vampire, and did not feed it blood. I do't think it would survive. I will deffinetly look that up.
If they need blood to survive cutting off the blood would in deed kill them.
In the Anne Rice novels the entombed vampires do not die, but rather they are too weak to rise and kill, and therefore remain within their coffins (or within the earth).
I am sure that in one of the books I have read, two vampires kill themselves by slitting their wrists in the light of the full moon.
I thought that this was a beautifully romantic way to die, if slightly "unconventional"...
The other one that I think has been overlooked is fire - vampires cannot withstand fire.
that makes no logical sence. anybody would die if you stabbed their heart, burned them, or cut off their head ;)
Felix Felix Edit - this is a common misdirection from the obvious. The real idea here being that a mythological vampire could ONLY be killed by these methods whereas anyone mortal would also die by these things (among the many other ways to kill a mortal). Yes of course a stake through the heart would kill anyone but the idea was that a vampire would survive bullets, and falls from great heights and so forth but would NOT survive the stake through the heart. In some cases it could only be certain types of wood that would work as well.
we're not immortal. there's no "special" way to kill us. I don't see why you're even thinking of how to destroy us. just know that if you fuck with us or our donors, we could and most likely will destroy you.
yeah, but wouldnt it be nice to figure out the correct way, so you could have a warning sign?? id wanna know how someone could kill me, so i could be aware, and on my guard at all times..
well I also would like to be aware of what I am up against LOL just so I would be prepared for anything asit were. Yet in the books it is all in how they want to destroy or make them immortal....
I think we are addressing the legendary vampire not the mortal vampire that walks the earth today in this post. It is true we can all be killed as anyone else can, but we are talking about the immortal sleeps in coffins and feeds killing its victim vampire.
How would you cut off the blood supply? There is so much to feed off of. The only way to do that would be to actually nuke the world. This would solve so many problems at the same time. That is the only way I could come up with.
I agree. There are many places that would make attractive sheets of glass.
So...HOPEFULLY we are talking about mythological vampires here... if vampires cannot die from not feeding, then in Underworld, those that were hibernating, why did they have all those tubes hooked up to them?
Then wouldn't energy vamps be able to feed off of places as well as people?
psy-vampires feed off emotion....
so there is no real way to stop a psy-vamp from feeding....
Sang vamps would simply go into Tarpor to wait until they can feed
Hawk2k is right, so you might as well stick to the traditional methods of killing a vampire. Unless ofcourse the psy vampire was completely locked up somewhere so that it could not escape but was also isolated from humans...
I'm going by the 'mythological' vampire for this response.
Normally, vampires in the mythological sense have many hightened senses and abilities therefore making them better than humans in many ways.
Therefore trying to take away their blood supply with their movement capabilities would be nigh impossible.
hmmmm the vampire could simply slip into a dormant state and ride the time
yes cutting off the fresh blood supply would kill them it would be like cutting off a humans food supply
I think cutting off a vampires blood supply would be like a human without water, wouldn't it?
steaking it is like moviesh, opening it nito sunlight letting it burn? eh more hollywood stuff. most likely to kill a vampire youd have to know what your going after and hawk is defenatly right ,, on the psy vampire and the sang i was gonna say that but he ate my words so i dont know what to tell you, also we got these people that are humans who think they are vampires i think is cool but is it real, eveyrbody lies ot fit in and im not here to judge or make people mad but who is really being Honest? we dont really know anyone so no need to jude or hate anyone at all.
how would you manage to lock them up in the first place?
is there nothing that can hold them? after all, they can dig through the earth to get to the night sky, so yes i agree with posts before me in that locking them up would be near impossible... unless you had the help of another vampire...?
well I do not see how you kill something that is already dead.. I would think that your just killing the animated body of said person. Maybe I do not quite understand the whole Vampire existance. I mean I know they feed etc. yet a fictional vampire is the living dead ... on another level than a zombie. anyways a Non-Fictional vampire, well put it this way if you cut my head off it will kill me .. dead.. and not get back up.. anyway just my opinion
no disresepct to anyone .
Like with every thread thats on this subject Im gonna add 1 question.
Are you refering to Hollywood vampires or real world vampires?
they meant mythylogical ones I say just cut off the head and be done LOl .. cause you cannot prevent them from feeding
IF they don't feed for a long time maybe death. Here's another if. Can you burn a vamp to death with holy water?Put him in a tub of holy water?
Well...there's a good question.
Wouldn't holy water have acidic effects on vampires? If so then it could be quite possible.
Why would holy water have any affect? What if the vampire wa previosly christian?
Hell, I don't know...I didn't write the script LOL
there's some movies where holy water has a blistering effect on vamps so apparently it would at least be an irritant.
That way if nothing else, it's mad as hell if it ever gets out huh? LOL
well through my drunken haze, after all it is sunday...3 weeks to go and i am in dock
the word***IMMORTALITY*** kind of is the back of my mind:)
I don't think that vampires really count as dead, do they?
:/
And the holy water thing... I actually don't know what to think about that!
stuff holy water when there is vodka :)
and it burns :)
I don't really think you can kill something thats already dead do you?
"That way if nothing else, it's mad as hell if it ever gets out huh? LOL"
Hahah so? let the sharks take care of it.
burning them works lol, and in a book i read a vamp refused to drink blood and started to decompose
that brings up a new idea...sharks ;) who would win between vamps and sharks? My money is on the great white!!!
anything that would kill a human, should kill a vampire also. all the cutting off of the head and the steak through the heart is just there to spice up the whole concept
A steak to the heart, huh? Sounds pretty good to me. :P
i think easy way to kill a vampire is that let vampire drink the blood of person who has atleast 100 diseases
lolz
confinement would do it but then you are commiting muder right, in the vampire community eyes but not the human eyes
If you have read any books by Brian Lumley he portrays the vampire as being like a parasitic worm that attaches itself around a human (usually) host's spinal column.
In one book, a character tied up the vampire , locked in a room, kept still by silver chains. He then starved the parasite until it exited the host body and killed just the parasite.
If you believe this, then you could starve the vampiric parasite.
What do you mean by "blood supply"?
There are a million ways to kill a vampire, they are not all that extraordinary of beings. Shooting them in the head is something I didn't see mentioned in this thread, so I will say that.
i like the shark idea as well... :/
i would like to see who would win - a vampire is faster, but the shark is... well.. pointier XP
not exactly right.....not all vamps need blood to survive.....some feed off of the energy around them....others are already dead and dont need it but love the taste....the ones you are talking about are your average ones or commoners.....they can die that way
I agree with what LoveXSalmon said a few passages above....Vampires already are part of the undead, so wouldn't they just come back even if you did weaken them enough to put them in that dead like state again? With the exception of destroying their body, that is. There's always dome food type supply.....bugs, rats or other small animals. If one is desperate enough, they will find a way to feed.
Call me a little bit confused but I am almost certain that a beheading is not going to do it... maybe by Hollywood standards...but wasn't Vlad beheaded also?
ya i sure there are other ways and sstarving it im sure would work rip out its teeth
Bram Stokers Dracula states that vampires are highly allergic to roses.
The question isn't asking though what ways there are to kill a vampire. It's asking what would happen if you took away it's blood supply, or feeding grounds.
I know, and I think a vampire would die if it lost it's blood supply. What happens to a human without water?
That would depend. A human could survive on other liquids aside from water. And ... would probably get rather gross smelling without it.
I agree with distortion, and without fluids ...wicked..wouldnt want to be around that
Any energy that could be absorbed is measure in calories. Calories are in everything, not just in food and they can be measured by joules as well too but it appears everyone here is talking about fictional vampires. Supposedly the idea of staking through the heart came from a cemetery outside of Dublin where they buried suicides and those exected for crimes. They were never buried in consecrated ground and they felt that the seat of the soul resided in the heart. Therefore, because they were what they were they needed to be staked because otherwise they would come back. This is supposedly where this idea came from that suicides mainly could come back as vampires. Not all vampires in folklore drank blood in fact many warriors did this act especially all over Europe, Eastern was a big area because they thought they could take on the power of the vanquished...it was a superstition and nothing to do with vampyrism per se so I would say that more than likely you could kill them the same way as anyone else. As for books, it would depend on the author. I have read of dismemberment of those they thought might come back or were a vampire and then buring the parts in a variety of places that were not close by each other.
I agree with Mollidew as far as drinking blood. It could be as simple as a miss translation of slang ie: blood thirsty=vampires drinking blood. Is the silver bullet only saved for wherewolves or is that an option?
vampires in the book mainly die of sun , silverbullets , pole thru heart. they s called real vamps can be killed exaclly as we humans can.
I thought they'd just like kinda dehydrate without blood and not really dye but sort of hybernate.
From my studies into vampires I have found that if a Vampire goes without blood there body goes in to a coma like state.
i think that you would have to completelly dehydrate them of blood. as in keep them in a cofin locked up or something and i don't think that they would actually die, just get very weak.
I think killing a vampire would be wrong like killing a human
Because they are somewhat alive
Killing a vampire would be wrong. Any animal would die from a steak threw the heart or being decapitated. And now for my answer to the question. I believe if the vampire was deprived of blood for to long then he/she would get weak and would enter a hibernative state to use as little energy as possible. I believe they might die from it, but it would take a very long time for the vampire to die.
In the Romanian folklore to kill a vampire was a magical act, not a natural one.
So don`t expect that this kind of magical gesture to have a 100% rational explanation.
Refusing a vampire to feed is just wrong in my book. Ficton or Non-Ficton.
I know I'm contradicting myself via my first post, but vampires [in the mythological sense] are considered immortal, aren't they?
Well .. take the vampires in Anne Rice's 'Vampire Chronicles'. Vampires wouldn't die without blood. But just because extremely weak.
There are reasons that I don't read vampire fiction novels that much anymore. People always think that is the way to kill a vampire, and it isn't. Some of us can be killed the same way humans are, but other's whom you believe us to not have inhuman power are extremely hard to kill. I can survive for a year without blood. So taking us from our food supply is stupid. The stake through the heart...yeah...silver doesn't work on us, it makes us sick that is all. Sunlight, ever head of day walkers? You have to find anchient texts to find a way to kill us, even then....good luck.
i know that i should've said this earlier but i was referring to the mythological vampire in this thread
i also wanted to say that i didn't ask this question because i actually want to kill a vampire...my friend had asked me this and i just wanted to see what other people thought
and finally i just want to say thanks for everyone who posted their ideas...it was very helpful
How would you pull off taking their food away? I am not sure that would really help I mean plus that isn't the only way they die in books in Twilight they get cut up into pieces and burned.
I don't kniow becasue in Interview with the vampire, lesat was shrunken down a withered because he wasn't feeding but he wasn' dead, i think they can kinda starve themselves and like go into a coma.
I also believe that if a vampire is starved of blood he would go in to some sort of stasis. And killing a vampire would be just like killing a man or woman as far as I'm concerned.
Vampyres have a resilient bit of longevity; burned, separated from food source all these things though detrimental appear to be surpassible at least in works of fiction. As for the notion of separating from food source a vampyre lke a shark is a perfect killing machine able to survive off object most would ne'er consider. So probably decapitation is the truest method.
In most of the vampires of legend or myth there was a way of killing them or 'beings' who had the power to kill them usually through witchcraft
A lot of the mythological vampires also fed on things other than blood - but that is only if your definition of vampires allows creatures who feed on things other than blood
With most things I would think that destroying the body will count as being killed for me
Vampires are a lot like humans, sure they may be stonger, more resiliant, faster... blah blah blah... But they can be killed much like a human. Beheading, that kills anything. Stake through the heart, that's a concept, just imagine the blood, but besides that point, many of people have survived being impaled through the heart, if they don't pull it out and seek immediate medical attention... Sunlight is a brutal and cruel way of killing one, in my opinion, not only is agonizing to see, but the screaming would push you over the edge, let alone, the vampire would most likely seek shelter a lot faster than what you can move....
artemka -
What other things did they exactly feed off? As much as I've heard all they feed off of was blood.
i dont think you can since they are immortal i think another way to kill a vampire would be for them to drink blood from the dead lol though i am not quite sure..
you can try taking their supply of fresh blood but they will take blood from themselves...
it is all too common for people to say that if you stab a vamp in the heart with a wooden stake they die
if i stab you with a wooden stake would you die too?
Well if they are fictional vampires it would depend on the author. Most get a lot of their ideas from movies as far as the fictional novelistic vampire.
Otherwise they can be killed any number of ways because they are human.
People tend to divide mostly by Psi or sanguine but its suppose to be about energy so the method doesn't matter. Some are drawn to taking it via the blood and probably best motabolize it that way. They may draw off other things from the blood as well. We don't know if some evolved due to circumstances and perhaps because of the area they lived were cut off or just didn't drink blood due to religious beliefs...who knows. There are a myriad of names for other types of vampires. From Empathic which is usually associated with the Psi vampire. Many say there is a difference if you put Psy and that is Psychic energy. This is why I prefer to say Pranic meaning I just take energy...Prana period...its really no one's business how anyone draws energy in my opinion and decreases many of the arguments about it using the umbrella term.
we know the old ways to kill a vampire but do we know any new ways to kill the modern day vampire
that will make the vampire weak but not kill him or her.
Starve them? I presume so a vampire would die eventually
I think new ways would include making it read some of the stuff posted in the forums.
How to kill "modurn day Vampires"? lol... The exact same way you kill a human :)
i heard you can do it by silver too, but that was just from a moviee.
