Is it possable to actually take a soul and place it in an object? In my studies and practice of Vodou.
I have been told that you can trap someone who has done evil things and make them suffer.
I ran a crossed a story of such a matter called
Robert the Haunted Doll
http://www.hauntedamericatours.com/hauntedstates/hauntedflorida/hauntedkeywest/
And saw an episode on Ghost hunters when they visited the place where the doll was held. They sware they could feel the soul and at one time one of the thought he changed facial expressions.
Do you actully beleve this is possable?
And do you think other objects like spirit capture jars are real like in the movie serpent under the rainbow?
a soul can not be trap in a material object as it is immaterial and what is spiritual can not be help by what is not spiritual, they have to be from the same realm.
It is a simply logical otherwise the world itself would be in a chaos leading to a mixture of the spiritual relam and living realm causing havoc without sense.
I have heard of it happening but that would mean that the person has opened their sould up to the touch of others. very dangerous. i am curious now so i must go off and research this.
But the world is already a mixture of spiritual and material, since the spiritual gives the material(universe) its function, its life, with out the spiritual element of awareness there is not material expression(but dead nature only), trough which(material) the spiritual awareness is expressing it self. Logical.
I believe it is possible to do such thing as to trap ones soul in to an object, such as medallion, a sword, or the most common known idea, in to a crystal, or a gem. There is no bigger difference between that and being trapped in a body, for both are material in nature, so what is the difference really. Awareness of the soul is in everything and trough all.
I guess one should have the knowledge of a powerful sorcerer in order to accomplish such act of trapping ones soul in to an object, so one can manipulate the illusion(material) to greater extend, and make such things possible/functional.
To correctly express one self, it is not the soul which is getting trapped in to an object(not very possible since the soul is how the things are, and cannot be touched or even trapped, but can only witness), or which is expressing one self trough the body, but what is really expressing, or getting trapped, it is the mind, a collection of that souls experiences, a set of memories and that personal identification which got it self established trough a certain amount of time spent in the material expression of ones soul trough the material, forming its ego trough such course of ones expression trough the material expression, so it is only the mind body which is possible to get trapped, so one is not that mind body, collection of thoughts, memories and experiences, but the eternal witness to that whole idea/experience, the soul, the awareness. It is possible to trap a mind only.
Thankyou dark correction noted about the movie and the question to a farther extent.
how long do they stay there? What happens to them? Is it permanent? What would it take to do such a thing?
and actually Dark those were the questions I had asked the momba when I was told of these things.
And I have questiond it my self I do know of and belave in haunted objects were a spirit is attached it self to a favorite object for one reason or another. But to actually capture a soul and put it in a doll or a jar?
OK i saw chucky loved the movie and dolls freaked me out when i saw it.But this was the whole reason for the thread thankyou once again Dark.
wes craven movie serpent and the rainbow was based on a true story cause I have the book also so my answer to you is yes it can happen and voodo is nothing to be messed with
What if the soul itself is not in the object, but it has left behind some sort of psychic impression? You hear about that with buildings all the time; that there's not necessarily any ghosts there, but general feelings of sadness, fear, or anger. I don't know if I believe that a soul could be trapped in an object, and if it is possible I think the types of objects would most likely be limited (imagine someone trapped in your toaster), but I think if the experience of a soul was tragic or harrowing enough, it may leave behind a psychic impression in a object.
Also, on the subject of mirrors- I have often heard it said that mirrors are gateways to other "dimensions"; maybe the soul is not trapped in there but simply using it as a means of travel?
I belive that could be true i had a bride doll that came up out of its box by it's self and it brought me bad luck
When i got rid of it the bad luck stopped
So true Jamie...If we can dream it we believe it eh'...... :)
I just honestly don't think it's possible. Cursed objects maybe....But an actual containment of a soul, not likely.....
Happy researching all......
as well i dont think all things can be rapped I have heard of enities being trapped in mirrors.. as fr other cursed objects yes i would say as to not mean a person being in the object more or less the object it sef being curses, perhasp a spell or charm may have been attached to it or maybe it was used in a horrifying murder or something like that.
Well if everything is technically energy and not really solid but only at a level that we perceive ourselves to be and part of us that is what one might term symbiotic can possibly be released for those that believe in a soul. I am one of them I don't see why this couldn't be done if one had the know how.
People make thoughtforms called Servitors, or group made ones called egregores, so if they can make them do what they want and probably infuse them in objects I would think why not the soul??? I know of a company right now selling pendants infused with servitors of varying types. It is called Metapysical Eclipse. The soul though is another thing in my opinion. We are saying that the person in question would have no control over what could happen to their soul if someone practicing voudou were to cast a spell on them. I am sure some believe this and of course this theme has been in movies and books but whether this can be done or not I do not know. There are lots of spells out there from all the countries that practice this type of practices. Even Hyatt collected pages and pages of hoodoo spells and many of this nature as far as curses and such.
I believe that your could curse someone I am not sure your can trap them in an object. I do believe you can curse and object so it maybe possible
if it is possible i know some i would love to have it done to but since i do not know anything about voodoo i don't know if it can be done or not.
I could only wish that this was possible. I would offer 1000 dollars to anyone that could trap my ex wife's soul in a portapotty.
roflmao a portapotty misterstikki???? your xwife must bereally full of *IT* Why not a cutting stump and when you get angry and thinks of her you just go out to it and ax away on the stump with your ax.But the thought comes to me if shes trapped in the portapotty Nevermind you might use it often lol
Yeah...while your idea relieves tension and stress, mine offers the satisfaction of knowing that even if its not my portapotty, someone, somewhere is unknowingly assisting me with my happiness :)
You must of had it rough lol I would love to stick some peoples souls in some odd objects and just let them hang around. And say nasty things to them knowing they can not fight back. But I would of never thought of that sorta justice your killing me here.
I have had a bad experience with a few cursed objects before.
My worse one was a haunted witch's ring that my mom received from a friend. Well she gave it to me and I suppose me being a psi I am open to more things and I was attacked by a spirit.
I also hate dolls, they seem to have a life of their own at my great grandmothers house. My family always said she was a high priestess of voodoo and since she loved dolls I think fragments of her spirit went into them.
I have often heard of the above that is mentioned. The spirit of a person going to the possesions that they had & loved the most in life.
I believe that anything is possible and that a spirit not a soul can be trapped in an object.
Sure, I have read numerous stories about cursed objects (The Monkey's Paw is a personal fave), but I don't believe in them. Possibly, in the off-chance I were raiding an ancient Egyptian tomb, I would reconsider before pocketing the large emerald marking the sarcophagus.
*thinking* There is the strong possibility that there is a evil soul haunting my paychecks, because no one can ever explain how I get paid a few dollars short of what I should get and the amount of the check, itself, is absolutely cursed!
the only thing i can think of is traping the soul in another body and if its an evil soul then trap it in a bird or something
I have heard of soul transfers to animals like ravens and wolfs and bears,Native American indians beleve that if you are truly a bad person your punishment worse then death is life in an animal so you can watch those you caused suffing to live. And watch as they go threw their pain.
I believe it is possible for a person's essence to become strongly imprinted upon an object even if their soul is not trapped by that object. One example would be if an 'evil' person wore a necklace for a long period of time and this necklace was passed on to someone else after their death. It might be possible for the new owner to feel extreme negativity from the necklace.
hmm if i could curse someone to an object what would it be. well thats a really good questions. I would probably curse them to a rock near a body of water if it were someone that was horrible to me. then they woud be exposed to the elements year round and to all the animals pissing and dumping on the rock.
Sounds like we are discussing a CHUCKY* doll LOL sorry really I do not see how a soul can be trapped or cursed into an Object just seems pretty far fetch as far as I believe yet, hey they say anything is possible ... I for one just do not see it happening.
I have never run into a cursed object, one with a trapped soul in it. I have run into an object that was "haunted" had a spirit of a small boy (about 8 yo) associated with it. I bought an old cedar wardrobe and brought home a passenger to my surprise. He was not detected until we had a young girl visiting who asked about playing with the boy in the box. He has since been seen by other family members and visitors. I am so shielded up and insensitive psychically from my life in the Middle East I cannot see him. :(
I'm sure there are cursed objects. I had a wood carving from Africa.
Ever since I had it weird things happened in my house.
The temprature would rise and fall as it wished.
Electronics would turn off and on at any given moment..
Creepy stuff
I'm not really sure how to feel about that. I believe that It is not like the movies, but on another leve it could happen. Why not.
I dont know why the cursed object become tales...
the regent diamont in the sword of Tipu Sultan which presented to nepolean was a cursed diamond as per tale...
it caused the decay of the owner of the regent.
A new angle: Various crystals vibrate a certain frequencies thus allowing us to "tune" our bodies through correct crystal/chakra placement. We also where crystals for protection and other reasons. Everything has a frequency. So with this in mind, transferrence of energy is possible. If one can transfer energy to an object, then it is most certainly possible. All objects have a frequency, and energy can travel through all objects. Either physically, or metaphysically energy is transferred from one entity or object to another.
I would suggest that it's no more possible than to contain a unicorn within a gingerbread house.
Things which exist can often be contained. Those which don't are far more difficult to capture. ;)
wudu peepal do catch the souls and in dolls and here in India too by tantriks when the soul do catch the living peepal and disturb them. they catch these spirits in the dolls and put them in the pot and tightly close the pot and take it to bury in deep jungle.
I think that objects can be cursed to bring you bad luck
i also belive very strongly that colors can be aswell
I think spirits can "attach" themselves to an object, if that object held some sort of significance in their life and they're not ready to move on or they can't figure out how then that object can become their "anchor" to this world.
I don't believe that you can contain a soul against it's will. Like someone before me stated "they're from two different realms". I don't think any material item can contain someone's soul, like a trap.
For me its a scary thought. Someone has the control over your soul. Nice thread, makes me think...
I believe anything is possible. But the potential also scares me. I have enough problems thinking that certain dolls no matter how angelic they look are creepy and their eyes follow you.
But I do believe it is possible that objects can become cursed with souls and other things
the cursed object is something that the spirt held dear to them when they where alive. and they cant let go of it. they are drawn to it. it so sweet yet sad cause they spend there afterlife chasing it forever
I would think that such an item may had been involved in a soul's tragic end, if not cursed by magic, or a combination of both.
Ah yes, Voodoo dolls. Well, you have to do certain things to make these things work. You can't just imagine them being someone and it'll work. Usually there's a ritual you must do. You usually place something inside of the doll that represents your person too, such as a piece of paper with their name on it or hair.
many shows that hollywood has put out has this theory in it, and yet in factial world some objects seemed to be cursed, like the death chair, who ever sits in it has died.
well, if churches can perform exercisioms to remove unwanted spirits from a house or person, why would it not then be possible for a soul to become trapped in some inanimate object. it is a good question though, how long must ones soul stay trapped to payrestitution for whatever percieved sin? and who would decide that, ya know. i too believe that vodoo is not someting to be messed with and i think alot of people practice who don't really know what they are doing, just like any magic. i tink it takes years of practice and se natural talent in order to practice properly.
In keeping with the original question, most people have stated whether they believe it is possible for a soul to be trapped in an object, but so far, very few have actually explained why they believe so. I very much doubt we all agree on what constitutes a person's soul, or even whether a soul actually exists, so what we have effectively is a group of people spouting opinions that may or may not be based on anything but superstition or faith.
"a soul can not be trap in a material object as it is immaterial and what is spiritual can not be help by what is not spiritual, they have to be from the same realm.
It is a simply logical otherwise the world itself would be in a chaos leading to a mixture of the spiritual relam and living realm causing havoc without sense."
You say that an immaterial thing like a soul cannot be contained by something that is material, yet I'm sure you believe that the human body (a wholly material object) is perfectly capable of containing a soul. How do you rectify these conflicting trains of logic?
"wes craven movie serpent and the rainbow was based on a true story cause I have the book also so my answer to you is yes it can happen and voodo is nothing to be messed with"
The movie was loosely inspired by the book. You should know this, since you claim to possess the book. Wade Davis himself expressed his disgust with the movie. The book is almost exclusively an investigation into the drug-induced "zombification" process carried out by Witch Doctors.
The rest of your post is an unsubstantiated non sequitur.
"I believe that anything is possible and that a spirit not a soul can be trapped in an object. "
First of all, we already know not everything is possible. More to the point, how is a spirit any different from a soul? What's your criteria for differentiating between the two?
"I'm sure there are cursed objects. I had a wood carving from Africa.
Ever since I had it weird things happened in my house.
The temprature would rise and fall as it wished.
Electronics would turn off and on at any given moment..
Creepy stuff "
Are you sure you're not implying a causation from a correlation? If you still have said carving, and it can cause the effects you say it can, James Randi will give you a million dollars if it can be demonstrated under controlled conditions. I don't mean to be confrontational, but many people tend to falsely associate strange phenomena/illusions with some supernatural "explanation" when the facts outside of the anecdote are rarely as spectacular.
"I'm not really sure how to feel about that. I believe that It is not like the movies, but on another leve it could happen. Why not."
A more important question to ask is "why?" Just blindly assuming something is possible because it hasn't been shown to your satisfaction to be impossible is no way to go about investigating. Why would it be possible for a soul to be trapped in an object? What mechanism would hold it to the object? What is a soul? Do we know that a soul exists? Why do we know this? Those are the questions you should be asking first.
"wudu peepal do catch the souls and in dolls and here in India too by tantriks when the soul do catch the living peepal and disturb them. they catch these spirits in the dolls and put them in the pot and tightly close the pot and take it to bury in deep jungle."
People may believe this to be the case, but has it ever been demonstrated to be the case? Thousands of people in India believe Sathya Sai Baba is the incarnation of God, and that they have seen him perform miracles (that have all been proven to be simple sleight of hand). Many people believe many different things, but where is the evidence to suggest any of it is real?
"well, if churches can perform exercisioms to remove unwanted spirits from a house or person, why would it not then be possible for a soul to become trapped in some inanimate object."
The difference between the two is that the "demon" is in the house of its own volition, and is being forced out by a power that is greater than itself. Are you suggesting that any one person has the power to trap another person's soul in an object against its own will? If so, how?
To answer the original question myself, no, I don't think it is possible to trap a soul within an object. Why? Because there is no empirical evidence to suggest that souls exist, let alone to suggest that they can be physically manipulated by a person outside oneself. What would then happen to the person who is now without a soul? Does their body die? Why are there no genuinely recorded deaths from someone's soul being taken in this manner? Where are the autopsy reports showing that the person died for unexplainable reasons? Furthermore, why are these supposed cases all in areas where education is limited, and primitive religious practices and blind faith are the governing powers over the masses? Why has no one ever been trapped in a voodoo doll in the western civilized world?
i will say this is not anything of a joke i believe a power with the knowledge can perform such powerful magicks.
i have had differant people investigate what i have is an antique radio table that the wood lid lifts up and down according to mood of said trapped spirit.... i been told the table had gotten wet and the wood is warped and will lift up and down according to humidity. i been told the wood cant move the way it does with out breaking IF it was not haunted. one person i was sceptical about said it was a brownie who oocupied my table.
hear say from pryor owner the table walked from room to room and the lid opened and closed she wanted rid of it fast and i snagged it. I SWEAR it does open and shut up and down and stays up against gravity but never has it went to another room by its self lol
Since none of us can see the table, it's impossible to verify how the hinges are laid out, how the wood is warped, and therefore we can't really figure out how the wood is actually opening and closing. It sounds cool to watch though.
it truely is and i will see if i can get some assist in gettting some pics :D
Here is the object in question. (You're welcome. lol)

To me it still looks like severe warping.
no matter what the case may actually be it is fun and i thank you from the bottom of my heart
My mom read me the story of Robert the Doll a few years ago. The reason why Gene's wife went insane is because the doll (Robert) would lock her in the closet while he was at work. When he would come home. He would find Robert sitting in a chair in front of the closet with a giant smirk on his face.
His wife claimed that the doll had sexually assaulted her multiple times.
I believe that an object can be cursed. Just because YOU don't believe doesn't mean that an object can't be inhabitated.
When a house is exorcised. A demon or spirit or entity will hide somewhere. ANYWHERE. Until the blessing wears off.
I don't believe in this particular story. Although it is quite creepy. But I do believe that an object can be cursed or inhabitated.
Other cursed object stories include King Tut, and many others.
I would suggest that one can't confirm they've trapped anything they can't demonstrate actually exists. First the existence must be demonstrated, then one can move toward capturing it.
i dont know , but i would think it posable if you think so and that is key word think to be true , then it could be to you. says littleimp lol
lol, i am noting the movie and story references(i loved the Monkey's Paw). no one has mentioned Friday the 13th the series? a show about three people trying to reverse a Faustian Pact.
i don't know about cursed objects but i do believe in imprinting especially on reflective surfaces.
things usually containing glass. these objects can act as a receiver for the measurable electric impulses of a persons brain waves. objects made from previously living materials are also capable of containing these waves if the object is big enough for a living creature to inhabit. ie an 8 year old boy being shut into a wardrobe perhaps :)
if science must be applied on these particular forums as opposed to metaphysical notion or to support it, this is the explanation i would give.
If you believe in something enough, and acknowledge what you are putting your belief into. It can become real. A munipalation of existence if you will.
I believe that Brown University (I maybe wrong). Their students who were in paranormal studies, bought a house, and would frequent the premises kinda live in it.
The goal was to create an entity by acknowledging a made-up presence and putting belief into it.
They decided to call the entity "Fred" and would blame things on him. Soon afterward, about 3 months into the study. Things started to move on their own. Everything they had blamed on "Fred" or said that "Fred" did started to happen on it's own.
oh i would love to read that Bloodmother. i know that i have seen(though some may dispute me here, i have eyes and unfortunately the are not camera lenses so i only have my word)occurrences of the sort you described in areas of concentrated negativity but never before from just the mention. that would be something.
Its all about mind over matter to me. If you believe hard enough then what you believe becomes real to you.
i would say nay because souls are etherial in nature, and you can only be cursed if u allow yourself to be cursed.. it is a mental suggestion.. voodoo only works on those who believe it.. the stronger the belief the stronger it works
bloodmother12208,
I'm curious; in regard to your information concerning the research and the entity "Fred", when you state "things started to move on their own."
Is there any objective measure by which to separate this claim from a simple tale? If not, would it be inappropriate to suggest that the claim that belief can change actual reality is contrary to what reality tends to demonstrate?
good one MOONKISSED!!
what about the fact that energy changes form always and never disapates it is always changeing so who is to say the soul energy cant be placed into an object...such as my table (wink) with that i have lots of hear say but i do see it change day by day how far it opens and it may be warped who knows the idea alone has creeped many people out
Isn't "spiritual energy" another way of saying "non-physical physical"? I know people tend to lean on the word "energy" when they lack another way to describe something they believe exists but with the vast majority of people believing in this "force" (if you will), and so many proclaiming to be able to sense it, it seems odd to me that it's all still just anecdotal after tens of thousands of years.
The argument as to why it is still anecdotal is because "Our instruments can't detect the non-physical." Of course, this raises a number of questions about how physical effects can ever arise from a non-physical force. The logic just isn't sound. This is, however, off-topic, so I'll leave it at that.
physical objects can harbor psychic energy... good or evil
what if in fact the object we are speaking of is wood or some natural properties such as crystals because they are seen as living things
It looks cursed but hard to tell in the picture
there are other things surrounding it
and they may as well be cursed also
:P i can only say iam going by a lot of hear say from friends who practice voudou/woodoo and what little i have read my self on that subject sence my area of practice is wiccan and not voodoo iam gonna say i really want to believe thoe i understand fully that dont make it anymore real iam a very strong believer in the where there is belief there is power iam far from an expert in any field but i try to keep an open mind and believe
If you are talking about like on the movie the mask I do believe something like that is possible accept for when Jim Carry put the mask on and turned into the green faced guy. There are many legends of evil doers beeing vanished into objects and one thing I believe is often times a legend has truth
i wish i had a link for this one some place in england there is a dare to sit in a chair that has been believed to have been cursed that if anyone sits in it they will die with in 3 days in every case of anyone who has taken the dare every person has died as one man stood from the chair he had a heart attack one woman as she walked out of the building got hit with a fallen stone from part of the castle wall ...i shall try to find a link and get it on this site
well unfortunately i could not find the link to the chair i spoke of but did find a good one for all you lookie lous
http://www.hauntedamericatours.com/hauntedfurniture/hauntedchair/
you said it yourself in the begining.
A spiritual object cannot be trapped in something not spiritual.
But there is the link you need. If you make the physical object and object of your personal spirituality.
Case above as the port-a-potty...then you can indeed trap a soul in it forever to haunt the basin, if you turn the inside of the john into a void where in perpetual punishment will befall what ever soul you wish.
Getting it out of the body requires more...violent means then just containing spirits.
I have spells for cursing objects and I believe that a soul can be trapped anywhere.
Personally, I don't think that souls can be captured.
But I do believe that objects can be charged with malicious intent, making them "cursed".
I'm wondering is it that you want too place a spirit in an object just too prove something or just needing help on some sort of situation ... be fore warned becareful for what you wish for you just might get it....
Try to associated with certain type of groups that practice those type of rituals they might be able too help you. There a website that i know that will help you explored a bit on this i will emailed it too you so you can associated with the members and get your answer....
I think that it is possible to imbue spirit within an object, but not soul. Besides God not allowing it, it would open up the realm of believing in real undead. I'm pretty sure we have exhausted the real undead topic.
I think that an object that truely trapped the soul would not function longer than the extent of time we have been able to bring someone back from the dead.... about 15 minutes.
I think that it may be possible to cause crippling attatchments to a soul artificially... just as a soul might be crippled by having never learned compassion. And in this way a soul might aquire an artificial lack of detatchment to the material plane in such a manner that would be akin to being born blind.
If a soul cannot be trapped as said above, how come many objects sem to have some curse so prominant on them? The death chair, hope diamond curse...etc.
good question and if they are not cursed then, is it mass hysteria? Are they a figment of peoples imagantion? Or like Waverly Hills Sanatorium that place has been said to have over 200 souls traped inside it.
Proven haunted or cursed and the plantation in new orleans that place was said to have a voodoo curse placed on it. So if none of this is possable then why all the strange events or places?
I heard something about the Titanic reminders, artifacts and the whole exhibition have spirits everywhere they are shown, spirits of the ones that perished in the whole incident...
Yeah they are doing a special on the Titanic memorialbelia with Ghost hunters right now. I have yet to see the program. but heard it was enlightning.
i kept a small piece of the electrical cord that the love of my life almost hung herself with...
it feels very "heavy" to the touch
likewise i have the ashes of my ex loving steadfast bulldog - maybe its my overactive imagination... but i swear when i hold the bag of ashes i can "sense" something
that's all i've got.
maybe there's an overactive imagination tied to deep emotions... but it feels like there's something more...
i think objects can in some way be cursed/blessed
(and that's coming from ME, the "skeptic")
Good post bat,
last night was the Ghost hunters special on the RMS Titanic, and they had said theat the energy of the peoples essence somway bounds with certain iterms that they owned or cherished. It many ways we feel like Bat had stated that a part of them still is felt within this stuff. The last possesion that holds them to our plane as we know it.
Intersting ...
not having any knowledge of voodou i can't say either way. however, personally, i don't believe it's possible.
This kind'a sounds like something from Friday the 13th: The Series.
we always assume in our minds things lay cursed for centuries, yet it was brought up that certain aspects with hysteria or micro-disease could be the cause of such curses.
Hm...
Well, there are ways to bind spirits to things, but you must be very trained of all could go wrong and you end up getting hurt by what ever you tried to bind.
Trapping them, I'm not sure of. Evil spirits usually don't like being trapped and end up getting away.
When you feel a stone which is binded, you can feel viberations or it moving. But you might get some of your energy whith it so you can actually feel it, and if you meditate with such an object, you will get vision and maybe if you are ready for it, speak with them.
But I wouldn't say going off and trying this for the fun of it.
That is my belief and experiences, so, think what you must.
my cousins Ryan and Mickey and Uncle Jack believe that objects maybe cursed and/or possesseed
True, cadrewolf. The only cursed object in Salem during the witch trials seems to have been tainted wheat.
