I have recently come across a piece of literature that involves healing through the use of colours to create specific changes in the energy of a person, the response of their emotions and their mind to such. It was said that each colour has a specific vibrational resonance that the body responds to.

So the question I pose is: Is it possible to heal the body, mind or spirit through the use of colour implementation or changing the colours in ones environment? If so is there is a specific colour you respond better to or are drawn to?

It is called Aura healing and many colors or colours of the Aura are to define how sick you are.I have had my Aura touched and told that I was troubled and had many pains through out my life.So i believe that Colour healing is possible because I am the kind of person that seeing it is believing it.And because someone read mine I believe it possible to heal it.

Oh yes. I noticed if I'm around blue ,grey & black ( my fav.) smile time. Green moss color is a bummer. Yellow upbeat.
So there is something to it.

In my bit of study into this field, I have noticed changes in behaviors and moods when prolonged expose to certain colours and how they effect the mind and emotions differently. I wrote a research paper upon this and it's possible uses in correlation with scientific methods in the use of healing before I accept the offer to have it published in a scientific journal I was looking to see the response of the populous in this manner.

That is very true. Like if you put someone in a room that's all blue...like a light to medium blue, it's soothing and healing (that's the color of my bedroom, hehe). But if you put a person in a room of reds and oranges, that creates passion and response over time spent in there. Then you always have some colors that are just uplifting in general (most of these tend to be earth tones in a larger area). Then of course you just have your neutrals, like in hospitals (though i think they do that more so to be easier to clean than anything, lol). Which also brings up another interesting question. If blue is a natural color for healing, and has been proven as such, then why paint the rooms in a hospital white when the purpose of going to one is to get better?

Colors have more a direct effect on mood and mood swings, it is not directly related to the healing but it does have an impact on the mood that will then either help or block the healing process the mind and body will do or assist in healing.
Still when it comes to the color of aura it is more of what the person is presently, not a healing tool or help, it is simply a clear statement of the person’s status at that moment the person’s soul itself

There's even a name for it--Chromotherapy.

Chromotherapy, also called color therapy, is the use of color and light to gently bring about homeostasis. Color and light is applied to specific areas and accupoints on the body.

Within our body, our organs, muscles, cells and nerves all have a level of vibration. When our body becomes out of balance, disease occurs. Each color has its own frequency and vibration. Through extensive research, we know that color and light will help bring our physical and emotional systems into balance.

Green: Regulates the pituitary gland, fights depression, bulimia, and other psychosomatic conditions affecting the gastric system. It is useful in calming the nervous system, fights irritability, insomnia and can be used to assist in recovery from nervous breakdowns.

Blue: Calming. Stimulates the parasympathetic system, reduces blood pressure and calms both breathing and heart-rate. It has anti-inflammatory and muscle relaxing effects. Fights both physical and mental tension and is used to assist in relaxation.

Red: Is used to energise and stimulate. Affects the heart by increasing pulse rate, and the muscles by increasing their tension. Influences vitality, and increases body temperature. Can be used to develop excitement and sensuality.

Yellow: Increases neuromuscular tone. Purifies blood, helps digestion, and has a cleansing effect. Strongly stimulates happiness, brings on a sense of security, as well as a strong feeling of well-being.

White: Used for regeneration. Also, provides energy and balances the chronobiological rhythm, by stimulating the production of serotonin, a substance which regulates both sleep and the nervous system. Rebalances the psychophysical and hormonal systems in people who suffer from seasonal depression.

The colours we are drawn to often reflect what we feel safest with. Black is in one sense the absence of colour and in another all colours overlapping to create anew one. Some indeed have only one colour they respond to that usually encompasses many with in it.

I wear black quite often as well...but colors still have an effect on me. They more than likely have some sort of effect on you, even if you don't realize it. It may be more subtle for you and unless you really take the time to think about it, you wouldn't notice, especially if you don't really have recall of the colors that were around you at the time of a mood that you were in..

Colors do have an effect on mood and spirit. Having worked in a psych hospital - which has lots of blue - for calming effects, I have seen it work in that manner. The effects of colors are very subtle but they are there.

They can also reflect the mood we are in when we choose the color of something to wear for instance.

When choosing what colors to paint walls or things we see daily in our enviroment, we need to think what we want to influence.....relaxation, creativity, passion, etc and chose the color that most closely relates to that feeling.

Well, Since colour is resonance,it stands to reason it would help promote healing.Same principles apply. It all comes down to electromagnetics. We had a disscussion on this recently, and electromagnetic waves are indeed playing a major role in colour resonance. From low to high ends, the electromagnetic spectrum consists of radio waves, microwaves, radar, infrared, visible light, ultra-violet light, X-rays and gamma-rays.The lowest being most important in colour resonance. Almost everything has its own specific visible color. In the same way everything has its own unique resounding frequency. Viruses and bacteria are no exceptions. If you can find the old thread,I posted the frequencies of bacteria and viruses.Included are the frequencies at which they are blown to smithereens.

I still haven't seen my curious question answered. In a hospital, why would you have white walls if you're trying to promote healing when blue is a natural color for it? White is supposed to mean pure, or purity...but I don't feel it to be a comforting color...just neutral.

To answer that in part, more and more hospitals are using colours that are benifical to patients. As research goes on and peeps catch on,you will see more hospitals using different colours.White was used in attempt to brighten up such a sad place.

Color healing in Reiki is very popular. Just having a knowledge of Reiki in general would give you the goods on that. If you just Googled the two words 'reiki colors', a ton of websites would be listed.

I use all of the colors when dealing with different areas. It really depends on what mood I am in or what I am trying to heal or conquer.

CrimsonScarab & PsiVamp loved your posts.

Rogue, I can not answer the question completely. But I do know that the hospitals in my area are changing to the blue's and other pastel colors. Some of the nurses like the colors more because they give a different feel to the rooms. Patients are saying that the change in colors make them feel better when they can see them.

Mostly in the hospitals....things on the medical side have to be sterile. White is a good color to reflect any dirt and the need to clean things. As was stated it also represents purity..which lets people think that it is sterile. Even tho bacteria can be anywhere....even in white..the thought was there....white equals clean.

I've always known that colors influence certain things like moods and such. Like Yellow and Red are suppose to boost hunger levels, that why fast food uses those colors usually. And you can take identical houses, or even the same house and if it's painted yellow you can sell it at a higher price than you could sell it if it were painted blue. I would think any relaxing colors like blues and turquoise would promote healing.

The colors I wear/ place in my surroundings are:

black,green, &gold

I feel super relaxed and comfy in black.

I get calm yet super energized in green, its a total motivation and yet so like self confidence.

In gold I feel overpowering, & in control.

:]

I usually don't wear no other colors unless I have to like a wedding or something and I have to wear white. D:

My art teacher was talking about this earlier. Telling us how certain rooms in a house should be or not be certain colors, such as your bedroom should not be a bright color because warmer colors are more calming.

So, yes. I do think that certain colors can affect people in ways.

Sweetblooded said it right with their last statement. Not every color works for everyone. I have seen it to where colors that have been worn by my friends affected another friend in a bad way. Almost like it had made them sick. This was not done on purpose but it was the feeling that was felt from the color itself.

My office is blue, which is supposed to produce a calming affect, and it seems to do that. T

There was a study of prisoners once that had red cells and blue cells and the difference between the behaviors was trackable. Even when you put the same prisoner in both rooms, it was subtle, but noticeable.

Thought I might mention ,its believed that red, green and violet are the three primary healing colours.I use the vibrations of Violet in traditional med too.
AS far as combinations, violet and red should never be projected simultaneously, nor should violet and orange ,as these combinations are thought to be the very destructive.Furthermore, violet and yellow will cause rapid and chaotic cell growth. In other words, caner and stuff.
Violet energy seems to a conciousness of its own too. ...it knows where to go and what to do, and is very effective for rapid healing in severe ailments. It also has a regenerating effect on damaged organs and nerves as well as a strong disinfecting effect.
Either way, sound and colour healing are used in conjuntion with one another to help surround the body with vibration of the colours used..kindof a reenforcement so to speak.

In my Child Development studies I do know that they suggest using a light blue to help calm over excited kids.. pick and reds seem to excite them.. yellow will help wake and such as this. I admit I never much thought about it in a healing way but I really see no reason why it could not be so. The Aura does show things using color so it seems reasonable that using other colors would help heal it.

Color can most definitely affect emotion. I find that I feel very serene when surrounded in subdued blues. Yellows and bright colors? I find myself feeling active and almost irritatingly so.

My favorite color is blue. I wonder if our favorite colors are a result of which moods we feel most comfortable being in.

Nista, I would believe that the colors that we are most comfortable in affect not only our moods but the way that we think as well. The colors have a feel about them so to speak and that would make us feel more relaxed with one color over another or vice versa they could make us more uncomtrollable as well.

As well as the use of colour in healing due to the links with the spectrum of the aura, colour also has psychological connotations. Scientific experiments have shown that colour can affect mood and influence things such as hunger.

PsiVampire posted some very good information. To elaborate on his post about chromatherapy, I have seen chromatherapy whirlpool tubs installed in bathroom renovations and spas. You can select a specific color for a specific mood or type of therapy.

Check these out... wouldn't you love to have one of these in your master bath!

A friend of mine's mother was suffering from seasonal depression. She saw a shrink and he told her to paint her entire house fom cealing to floor bright sunshine yellow. it looked hideous, but it seemed to do the trick. She was a lot happier afterwords. I do think that colrs can affect a persons mood. I know they affect mine.

I've had little experience in this field 'officially' but I know from personal experience that my environment affects my mood more so than the people and I have noticed one room of the house will affect me differently...If I change the colors that dominate a room, then the effect is changed, So then Yes I would believe it is possible to heal one, if only by putting them in an environment filled with colors that relaxes their mind body and soul so as not to hinder the natural course that those human components will take to heal that person. Taking in some colors may do more the the person's psyche than just relax them, it is also possible that it has an enhancing effect on the healing, or declining effect on the healing...but keep in mind, the three do no always work in perfect alignment, and the same principle should apply here, one color that relaxes the body, may enrage the soul and do nothing to the mind or relax the mind, but stress the body and soul...so a proper combination of them may be required...

I had meant to post this before but forgot where it was...
Chromotherapy is a method of treatment of diseases by colour. It is best used as a supportive therapy along with other natural methods of preserving health such as correct diet, adequate rest and relaxation, exercise, yogic asanas and so on. According to practitioners of chromotherapy, the cause of any disease can be traced to the lack of a particular colour in the human system. Colour therapy is a technique of restoring imbalance by means of applying coloured light to the body. It was a popular method of cure even in ancient times. Some 2,500 years ago, Pythagoras applied colour light therapeutically and ‘colour halls’ were used for healing in ancient Egypt, China and India. The pioneer of modern colour therapy was Niels Finsen of Denmark. Following the discovery, in 1877, of the bactericidal action of solar ultra-violet energy,Finsen studied the possibility of assisting the healing of wounds with visible light. He subse- quently used red light to inhibit the formation of smallpox scars and, in 1896, founded a Light Institute ( now the Finsen Institute of Copenhagen) for the phototreatment of tuberculosis. In 1932, Gerrard and Hessay, two Californian psychologists, scientifically established that blue light had a calming effect and red a stimulating power on human beings. Blue and red colours are considered at the two extremes with yellow representing the midpoint. These are also the three principal colours in a rainbow. A patient is first subjected to an examination to ascertain which colour he lacks. The deficiency is determined by observing the colour of the eyeballs, nails, urine and excrement. In cases of the lack of red the eyes and nails will be bluish, and the urine and excrement white or bluish. If there is a deficiency of the blue colour, the eyes and nails will be reddish and urine and excrement yellowish or red. Every substance on earth contains colour. Even the rays cast on earth by celestial bodies contain colour in the form of white light. The rays of the sun contain seven different colours - violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange and red. These are natural colours which are highly beneficial to the maintenance of health and for healing diseases. According to Dr. Babbit, a well-known authority on chromotherapy, "sunlight is the principal curative agent in nature’s laboratory and where light cannot enter, disease does. Chlorosis, anaemia, leukaemia, emaciation, muscular debility, degeneration of heart and liver, dropsical effusion, softening of bones, nervous excitability, physical deformity, stunted growth and consumption are the result of excluding oneself from the beneficial effects of sunlight. " Sunlight plays an important role in the recovery from chronic diseases. Judicious use of sunlight can be part of the curing process in almost every affliction. The rays of the sun improve digestion and nutrition, quicken blood and lymph circulation and increase the elimination of impurities through the skin. The action and effect of various colours on the body and their healing qualities are as follows :

Red :
Symbolic of heat, fire and anger. It is a stimulating and energising colour. It stimulates arterial blood and brings warmth to cool extremities. Used as a general tonic, it is very valuable in the treatment of diseases like low blood pressure, rheumatism, paralysis, anaemia and advanced cases of tuber- culosis.

Orange :
Symbolic of prosperity and pride, orange is useful for stimulating blood supply and energising the nerves. It is beneficial in the treatment of kidney and gall stones, hernia and appendicitis. It is also used to stimulate the milk producing action of breasts after childbirth.

Violet :
Violet is beneficial in the treatment of nervous and emotional disturbances, arthritis, acute cases of consumption and insomnia.

Yellow :
Associated with joy and happiness, yellow is laxative and diuretic. It is a stimulant to the brain, the liver and the spleen. It is also effective in the treatment of diabetes, indigestion, kidney and liver disorders, constipation, eye and throat infections, syphillis and impotence.

Purple :
Purple or indigo combines the blood-warming red and the cooling antiseptic blue. It is an excellent stimulant without being an irritant. It is beneficial in the treatment of advanced stages of constipation, hydrocle , leucorrhoea, many disorders of the stomach and womb , cataract , migraine and skin disorders. It exerts a soothing effect on the eyes, ears and the nervous system.

Green :
Made up of the blue and yellow, green is regarded as a colour of harmony. It is a mild sedative. It is useful in the treatment of nervous conditions, hay fever, ulcers, influenza, malaria , colds, sexual disorders and cancer. It preserves and strengthens eyesight. Being highly medicinal and depressive, it is of great help in the treatment of inflammatory conditions.

Blue :
Cool, soothing and sedative, blue alleviates pain, reducing bleeding and heals burns. It is beneficial in the treatment of dysentery, colic, asthma, respiratory disorders, high blood pressure and skin aberrations. IN a study at the New England State Hospital in the United States, 25 members of staff with normal blood pressure were bathed in blue light for half an hour. It resulted in universal fall in blood pressure. The blood pressure rose when red light was applied. Methods of Treatment There are two methods of treating diseases by colour :

i. By the application of light through different coloured glasses ;
and By external or internal use of colour-charged water. In the first method , sheets of glass, 30 cms. X 36 cms. of the required colours are needed. These are placed at the window frames or any other convenient place in such a way that the sun’s rays can pass through them and fall directly on the patient’s body. The usual duration of the colour treatment is 30 minutes. In case of local application, a pane of glass can be placed in front of the diseased part so that the light passing through the glass falls on the afflicted area. At night lanterns can be used for the purpose. A single lantern can have glass panes of four different colours and the required colour can be focussed on the patient or the affected parts. In the second method, coloured bottles are needed. These bottles should be cleaned and filled up to three-fourths level with fresh well water, distilled water or rain water. The bottles should be corked and then placed in bright sunlight for three to four hours. After this exposure, the water is said to acquire medicinal properties and this colour-charged water can be used both internally and for external applications. Wounds and ulcers can be washed with this water and it can also be used to massage the affected parts or applied as compress on them. For internal use, an adult can take 30 ml. of colour-charged water as a single dose. The dose can be repeated as required.

ii. Diet
A correct and balanced diet is essential during the treatment of diseases through chromotherapy. The patients should take food items with analogous colouring. The various colours contained in different food items are :

Red :
Beets, radish, red cabbage, tomatoes, watercress, most red-skinned fruits, red berries and water melon.

Orange :
Orange-skinned vegetables and fruits such as carrot, orange, apricot, mango, peach and pappaya.

Violet :
Egg plant, berries, black carrot and purple grapes.

Yellow :
Lime and lemon, sweet lime, grapes, pumpkin, melon, banana, mango, yellow apple and guava.

Purple :
Foods having both blue and violet colouring.

Green :
Most of the green vegetables and fruits such as gourds, spinach, plantain, lettuce, pea, green mango, gooseberry, pears, beans , etc.

Blue :
Blue plum, blue beans, blue grapes, etc.

Contraindications
There are some important contraindications to colour treatment which should be borne in mind while adopting this mode of cure. For instance, the red colour would be injurious in a naturally inflammatory condition of the system, and in case of persons with feverish and excitable temperament. If the red light is employed for too long and frequently, it may produce dangerous fevers. The danger can be obviated by using the red light for a few minutes at a time or by placing a wet bandage over the head. Similarly, yellow should not be used when the nerves are very active or irritable. Yellow or orange reddish tones may prove injurious in fevers, acute inflammations, delirium, diarrhoea, neuralgia, palpitation of the heart and any condition of over- excitement. In cases of paralysis, chronic rheumatism, gout, consumption and in all cold, pale and dormant conditions of the system, blue, indigo and violet may prove too cooling and constricting and should be avoided.

pale greens and pale yellows help me when I'm going through a bad depression, I don't know if it's because the colours are airy but I do know that I always feel better around them.
