i heard that in ancient times people thought that if you consumed blood it would replace the bad blood making you better. however it didn't always work because of the different blood types and most of the times it would actually kill the patient. so i was wondering with sang vampires you must have to have some kind of background check on your victims or else wouldn't you consume the wrong blood type and fall ill or are you sort of imune to those diseases?
I don't think it's the blood type but the quantity.
Excess consumption can cause Cardiac arrhythmia and result in cardiac arrest
I searched around and could not find anything regarding health issues or death resulting from drinking human blood of a different blood type or RH Factor.
As for disease, that's a different story. I'll not get into them since vampires and disease has been covered in other strings here.
As for donors, it is suggested that you only have one donor and that they be checked/tested for any diseases, such as AIDS, Hepatitis, etc. You should also be concerned with the psychological well-being of the donor and find out if they are on any medications.
There is a Bill of Rights that is used within the Sanguinary society to promote the continued safety of those who do drink blood. I am not posting text it here as there are copyright issues, but here is a link:
Donor Bill of Rights
ok i'm going to have to agree with psivampier on this...
drinking the blood shouldn't be a problem but back in the olden days they weren't to aware of diseases.
so that may have posed the most problems
or another possibility since the body was kept in such back condition then maybe introducing such a fluid into the system had effects because of hi iron contents or others
well as far as the rh factor, has to think a minute im either + or - because i had to hav a shot when i had my son. But i kow which ever it was if i didt have the shot it could have killed me, so i can see the point on that part of the question
interesting i guess because medicine was not as advanced as now i could see the reason why the blood quality might not have been treated as well as now
The blood type (A,B,AB, and O) and the Rh factor (+ or -) are not a factor in consuming blood, only in blood transfusions. As transfusions go directly into the blood stream incompatible blood will cause serious consequences. Consuming blood, the blood will go into the stomach which has a pH of about 3, and turned into something else. The quantity of of blood that is swallowed without ill effects is debatable, but my personal research indicates as much as 6 oz, or about 200ml has no effect....except of course those that are expected in sanguinarian practice.
As with everything, it's both quality (disease free) and quantity. Humans just can't digest that much blood: I've heard a tsp. maybe 1x a month. Be gentle with your donors. Revere them.
well in shortage its always helpful and that time the quantity and quality both mind, oh god save all from hiv
I felt the importance of the blood by many in my life time picked me to hospital to have my Orh -
ha-ha one nurse gave me pouch of my own blood to feel my own blood at my age of 19, that was my first psychic awakening, I feared to handle the pouch, then she took my hand and pressed my grip against the blood pouch and said that the pouch is as strong as your heart don't fear of bursting it or leakage. the pouch was heart shape.
consuming a diff. blood type can have serious adverse reactions.... just as well as disease contaminints
The blood within a vampire is not their own. Since the conflict would be caused by the preceding blood cells, reacting negatively to the dissimilar make of a donors’ blood, it wouldn't cause harm as the blood from when the vampire was living has expired with its human body.
This is very true although there appears to be a slight difference in constituents by type. Adverse affects would be from injecting. Unless you have studied some form of medicine or allied field no one in their right mind would attempt such a thing.
Supposedly from researches on cannibalism, about thirty percent of the world's population can digest more blood than a couple of ounces without a problem. Anyone else has the possibility of vomiting since it is an emetic and if we speak of the fictional vampire...hey you could change its color, let it putrify even and they could live without harm. It's just fairytales for adults.
I know that they used leeches to suck out the bad blood from people, because they were used to clean the blood from the person.
Well this is a common misconception you see according to our blood types we can only consume what matches us and even then if the blood has not gone threw a cleansing or process of cleaning it could have bacteria(germs) that our bodies aren't immune to the the other person had in their body making ours go into a worse state trying to fight the newly added bacteria completely leaving the bad blood alone to do its worse or vise versa either way the results end up the same if not handles with care. as for vampire most have a natural sense for blood and can smell out what type is safe to consume so its much easier for a average vampire to consume it also most vampires or people can get immunity to it in time
it can and can't i don't know if that makes sense but from what ive been told...waht you said is nothing but a rumor...
well it is more the quality of blood and also during the ancient times they would use Leeches to rid the person of bad blood as well as disease they felt it would help in purifying which of course if you take out so much blood the body will replenish itself with fresh new blood just as when you donate blood, it is a good way to help keep the blood clean and refresh so to speak .
yet even now it is the Quality of blood, I mean who wants old bad blood or diseased blood. just my take on it, an opinion
I don't think that is what happened if you transfuse the wrong blood type you can kill a person not if you just drink it.
Well, most versions of the vampire don't generate any blood of their own, so i would think the type of blood a vampire drinks wouldn't really affect them any.
blood can taste different when blood letting/ sharing depends on if you use drugs and also foods you eat etc... well in my experience that is .
LovelyXDEATH35:
Since you mention specifically sang vampires, I will address this from the point of a person who has gathered energy from sanguine sources. Personally, blood type is not something I have concerned myself with in the past. What I do, however, concern myself with is whether or not my donor is disease- and drug-free AND mentally sound. I have, however, chatted with people who prefer one type over the other and have become sick due to the RH factor.
If discussing humans drinking blood - the blood type of the donor doesn't matter - just the quality of the blood does, as well as small quantities.
Having just one donor, and one that has been tested, is the way to go - good for both parties. There are those that enjoy being a blood doll.
As to fictional vampires - blood type only matters if the author deems it so.
Until blood typing was medically taken note of, transfusions and such with different blood types often ended up badly, only because no one knew about how different types of blood.
The wrong bloody type would not really have an effect on the sanguine vampire's system, as only small amounts of blood are consumed at one time. The issue would be in any type of diseases transferred by blood (HIV/AIDS, hepatitis). It is recommended that a sanguine vampire only have one or two donors who have had their blood tested for any such diseases.
I think it didn't work in ancient times for the same reason it doesn't work now... we can't 'digest' blood.
I believe that it's a matter of whether or not the victim was diseased. However if you portray vampires as myths and legends do, they are immune, remember?
If different blood types tasted different than others I could see how a vampire might have a blood preference, but I don't think that they would need to only consume one type.
Funny you should mention that, PostInsanity. On the TV show Moonlight, they seem to always reference blood types as a preference, and they use wine terminologies , "Type O has a much better finish."
I wish I knew my blood type. = I was too chicken to prick my finger in science class.
I would suggest to stay away from other's blood. It's certainly not sanitary and it's dangerous. Maybe that's why some want to do it. Rebellion. Pfft......yea, how rebellious you gonna be with AIDS or hepititis jerk?
I wouldn't mess around with blood either, Jamie. For me, that kind of fetish is just too life risking... and even if it wasn't- not appealing to me. Although, some cultures practice eating their dead as ritual, and maybe they think we're weird. Oh heck, we know other cultures think Westerners are weird :P
As at least one or two people should mention in threads such as these... SAFETY. There are impressionable kids on this site- of the mere age of 13. I would hate to hear of any of them practicing unsafe bodily fluid exchange. eww... that just sounds bad.
Blood type has absolutely nothing to do with anything when it comes to the consumption of blood because it does not go into the blood stream in a large enough quantity to matter. In most cases it never actually enters the blood stream unless the person consuming it has a cut somewhere from their mouth to their stomach because blood is not digested into the blood stream. Blood type only matters for a transfusion where the blood goes directly into the blood stream. Living vampires are not immune to any disease that humans are not immune to because they are human. Diseases can be transmitted both ways (meaning donor to vampire and vampire to donor) during the consumption of blood but that has nothing to do with blood type. knowing that both parties are healthy is essential before even considering any transfer of bodily fluids but especially blood.
It's rarely an issue. Follow the veil and it won't matter. Remember: don't feed off the sick. Blood types doesn't play a part.
Blood type is not a factor although some do have a preference. Quantity can be a factor. Disease is always a factor. Drugs in the blood can affect the blood and can cause it not only to taste bad but you can have a serious reaction to them. Otherwise as stated above care for your donor and follow the veil.
I think it doesn't matter because vampires are diffrent than humans and vampires need blood to survive and it doesn't matter what kind. Unless ofcourse it is laced with acid or something,t hen their would be certian side effects from that.
you can not get high or drunk from drinking someone elses blood unless you are drinking blood from a dead body of someone that overdosed. The blood alcohol limit in most states now is .08% at 10x that level the person would most likely be in a coma or close to it. That would be 0.80% alcohol by volume. "Non-alcoholic" beer has about that much alcohol at 0.50% and you can't get drunk from that. The same thing applies to drugs, by the time it got into your blood stream it would be too diluted to do much of anything. The only case where you might be affected is if you had an extreme allergy to a drug. Even if you didn't get sick from drinking large quantities of blood you would kill the person long before you could drink enough blood for any drug in it to have an effect on you. If you follow the math all the way through to get the same blood alcohol level as a person with a blood alcohol level of 0.08% basically about 2 beers drank over the course of an hour you would have to drink 37.5 pints of blood within an hour which is absolutely impossible.
I feel it is the amount that you drink. A little blood cannot effect you. We all drink small amounts when we cut ourselves and we tend to suck it. However if you drink copious amounts wether it is the same blood type or not then it has to be bad for you. Our digestive system isnt designed to drink blood.
I am a nurse and have never heard of cardiac arrest or death from drinking blood. I don't understand that statement at all. If one receives the wrong blood type via a transfusion then death may be an issue.
Most folks have the same donor and there are several blood tests and health checks that need to be done before.
Also within the the Sanguinarian website there is a Donor Bill of Rights.
The type of blood will not make you sick from consuming orally. Now consuming to much of any kind of blood can make you sick.... I have never heard of anyone dieing from it though, but that doesn't mean it hasn't happened...
The blood type does not matter. The blood is consumed and digested, not transfused into the blood stream. I have consumed types incompatible with my own with no ill effects.
When you drink blood it goes into your stomach... not into your blood stream, so the type shouldn't matter...
Isn't blood an emetic? If so, yes, a large amount can cause you to vomit...
As stated above, blood types are only a concern for transfusions. Disease is a different question all together. Either way I am sure all blood types taste different... As do each indivual doner...
You have to take in mind, with time comes knowledge. People also used to think that "bleeding" a person would make them better. Where the idea was great, they forgot one key factor. They never put any "good blood" back in! ALSO, when you drink blood, it doesn't go to your bloodstream... It goes into your stomach. Your digestive system just isn't made to digest massive amounts of human blood thus making one become ill. It's not really the type of blood that you intake it's the amount and the fact that the human body just isn't built to digest that sort of thing
I doubt just drinking a different type would kill you. However it would probably make you sick. Actually, consuming a certain amount of blood will make you physically sick which is bad.

I never heard of people drinking 'good blood' to replace the 'bad'. Leeches were used to suck out the 'bad blood', I know that much. Leeches are still used in most professional medical practices today such as reattaching limbs. The leech is attached to the end of the reattached appendage. As it tries to suck on the blood, it actually forces it back through the veins and viola! "Sir, you now have full recovery of your once lost finger". *laughs* Anywho, drinking blood wouldn't replace anything. It would go straight to your stomach and make you throw up. I imagine that if you somehow managed to keep from throwing it up, it would probably kill you but I don't know that for sure. Anyone care to test it out? :P
Over feeding on anything can make you sick. Btw diseases transmuted by blood for the most part cannot be transmuted orally. It is a misconception that you will get HIV just because it got into your mouth... One your spit kills the virus most of the time... Now saying that if you have any sores or open wounds in your mouth and infected blood gets in your mouth then you're pretty screwed for the most part. But it simply going into your mouth does not get you infected for the most part... There are very few acceptions. Your mouth is the most hostile part of your body.
We may have touched base on this topic a few times with simular outcomes of discussion. I was watching something lastnight that caught my attention for a brief time that actually wasnt political..
Their are tribes in Africa still that have drank blood ( and still do to this day). some experts agree that there are some great nutritional values to gain from drinking blood. Now I am not aware if its human or animal that they are drinking
Drinking blood is no different than having multiple sexual partners. We do not and can not know everything about another, therefore, we should seek donors from houses that screen them for unwanted additions to our activities. Planning, safety, discretion and respect should be everyones agenda.
The Masaai are one of the main tribes that do this GD.That blood comes mostly from cattle and is normaly mixed with milk or yogurt. This is their main source of protien, since blood contains that,Iron and other nutrients. There are some tribes in Australia that practice drinking blood too.Ew yeh,and then theres that black pudding...yuck.
I dont think it's the blood type but rather the stds extera that cold possible be in the blood. But a vampyre that follows the viel shouldnt have that problem.
I've been a blood donor Type A+ since the start of my 20's back in 1969. As a Vietnam Era combat medic, there were times... my blood was the only transfusionable blood available to save the life of a fellow "Brother in Arms" soldier... I normally donate only during times of extreme shortage. As someone born jaundice and Rheumatic Fever, I currently cannot tranfuse/pheries whole blood... only serum or platelets separately.
This is also for my own protection that I don't donate too frequently... and "short" myself.

as a human is only digesting blood and that blood will go through the digestion process it should not cause any adverse reaction, that is of course, if the blood is not tainted and does not have any transferable disease's. Humans can swallow snake venom and survive, because the venom is broken down into the various proteins that make up the venom. BUT if a person has any lesion in or on the stomach, then the poison can actually get through and cause damage. So if a person can drink Venom and get mildly sick from it, then untainted, unspoiled blood shouldn't be an issue. Now Vampires on the other hand cannot get sick or die from the "wrong" type of blood because the Vampire is already "dead" and as such can not "die" again
True vampires only drink the blood of the royal blood line to increase their magical powers for invocations and ceremonial magic, any other blood only diminishes their witchcraft, thus, making it just blood lust.
for me, well i have people, donors checked
to see if there is anything in their blood that would hurt me
but for the most part... it is not a huge issue
Consuming a different blood type wouldn't effect you because it's not going through your own blood stream. I thought the only time there was a problem is when your blood mixes with the wrong blood type, which doesn't happen when it's consumed.
