When someone has been through or witnessed trauma and is having nightmares and flash backs if they seek therapy would hypnosis help with easing the images Can calming your soul with say a candle or an inscent with a scent that brings you happy feelings help?
What are your opinions on this , and do you have another way that would help with this kind of situation?
For instance
I was on my way home from school on the bus and we came to the light and it was green and my friend rode his bike to school and was going for his sisters dog and the bus i was on hit and killed him, it left me with nightmares and flash backs
I would like to hear your comments and advise
not sure any thing helps with it but a lot of time and healing of the mind . And it not something you will ever real get over there will be thing that will bring it back when you lest thing it will .
well apart from going down the chemical route given by the doctors ? ie: anti deressants and tranqs i think meditation with insence can help ya state of mind but i guess it depends on the individuals ability to deal with stress? hypnosis in a controlled therapy session could help ! it helps people stop smocking and give up other things so i cant see why it shouldnt help with blocking out unwanted images and memories? it would be like a reverse regression theropy , making you forget instead of remembering!!!
Firstly, let me say I am sorry for your loss and having to have gone through that experience.
On to your question regarding hypnosis. I do not think that hypnosis would be the treatment of choice in this instance.
The two main theraputic uses of hypnosis are to 1) Attempt to identify past traumatic events that are hidden to the conscious mind and 2) To impart suggestions to the sunb-conscious mind for recall into the conscious mind with a certain trigger (i.e. suppression of the desire to smoke). In your case, you know full well what the trauma you experience was.
What you will need is therapy to help you deal with the trauma and be able to ease your mind.
I wish you all the best.
Clearing your mind and letting the memories flow through you will help you come to the point of calm. Trying to keep the memories out is the worst thing you could do, the memories are there and you need to come with terms them
Hypnosis is proven to help people. However, I have heard that it can be very expensive. I don't like the idea of someone in my head, but if it's worth it I would go for it.
Hypnosis some people this does'nt work for. I too am sorry to hear of your friend and what effects it has had on you. As others have stated it takes much time to get over the trama that you have experienced. All pills that a therapist etc gives you, just numbs your feelings. I would however seek someone who you can speak to freely under confidentality and let all of your emotions flow. This may help you to cope with this terrible situation better.
yeah i agree !!!! it takes time to get over the loss of a friend ! i also lost my best friend when we were 7 was also a bus involced but the death was different!!!!
i am now 36 and i still think of him! almost everyday! there isnt one other death that has affected me more than his!!!
im not sure i want to forget ! he was more my brother than friend!!
but other people might want to ? so all the avenues of different therapy are explorable!!!
I am a Hypnotist .. It wont take the love you have away or the hurt but it will help for sure with the images and flash backs and it can ease the pain you feel. Sorry to keep it such a short reply but i quickly came online to get mail and i saw a hypnosis forum..The only thing i recommend is if you do go to a hypnotist or find one online.. Be Careful cuz there are lots whom claim to be Hypnotist and they are far from it..
Seperating the grief from the trauma is a good beginning, A tragic event, Have you been offered crisis counseling?
It will not etch upon your soul, this event
assured when you revisit it, it will be in your memory
can you just forget?
no I am sorry you cannot, you can activate better memories though around that one, I bring up vacations with the friend I lost to a tragic accident.. Though I was not there. You survived you are living, though you now have the loop memory. I set aside time and watch for triggers to that memory. Brace your self. Ten for the grieving, when was the last time you "investigated the victim" meaning learned something about them, even if only trivial, that you never knew before? Have you been to his Grave? Take flowers. I still cry for my Friend Ricky W.
Don't try finding things that make you feel better. Try to find things that will take your mind off of the nasty memories, thus making you feel better. There are a lot of ways. Movies, exercising, music, ETC. Anything that will help you relax is a plus. =)
I think hypnosis could help to ease the memories, yes. It can allow you to sort of unconsciously relive it and understand the trauma better, which can cause you to let it go, or they could erase it from your memory if it's severe enough.
I would also make the suggestion that you share with others that witnessed the event, this is a group closer thing. A small annual memorial will place that memory in a tended category, much like reflection over a candle does. I find candles can help recall romantic moments as well as sooth troubled memories. He did a couragious thing saving attempting to save that dog, reliving the event is only going to relive the helplessness you felt. It was out of your hands. Everybody on that bus shared the moment, have you kept contact with anybody else?
I mentioned my friend here because he died in a simular manner, he road his bike out from between two cars, into the path of another car, I did not witness it. I can tell you it was hard at that age 8 I think, to receive what had happened, I brought my hot wheels over his house the next day, and asked if he could play, I knew he wasn't there but,, I had to confirm it I guess.. I have been a champion for street safety for children since, It is one way to do my small part to caution other children to look both ways, I do a thing for friends children where I take a dumbby made with water melons and canalopes and throw it out in from between two cars.. showing them the effect of a car on something their size.. it works I have heard from parents.
I'd imagine so. Assuming it is posible to hypnotize, the jury is still out for me on that one.
I mean... it's all psycological, right?
Sometimes talking with people who were also friends of the victim or part of the traumatic event and comforting each other helps. I read that you've since moved but perhaps you could connect with some one via phone or email. Bottom line, the method you choose is one you need to feel comfortable with. Unfortunately I dont think there is any qick fix to your problem... just time.
Well wishes to you
I have done self hypnotism myself, it helps with Anxiety, but only when it is on setting, not during. I have been able to create the sensation that my arm is heavier, and my tempiture goes up, though I have tested this and it is only sensation it is not actually going up.. but consider researching any Hypnotist you plan to go to, there are plenty of zero accredited people claiming to be hypnotist out their, and they use Alternative labels, and allude to spiritual awareness (mental and spiritual clumped together, questionable and suspect.) I have been to pass life, not to be confused with past life, and had some loops resolved in my behavior patterns. Avoid any commiting for extended or arbitrary sessions. Ask right out front, what it is you are to expect from the process, have them explain this before, not interpite after wards, this suits the claims of the person that has the practice, a common activity in the old medicine shows actually used still by pop-up "feel good shops".
i think that thre's no set "one road" to the healing process.
many find solace in spirituality/prayers/rituals.
others find healing and solace in traditional therapy (meaning seeing a professional and talking it out).
and some, just like to weather it through alone, journalling and meditating.
so, for me to give you advice on which path to choose to "heal", i'd say, what are your religious and cultural "bents", and what have you and your family used before to go through the grieving/healing processes??
Hypnosis might help, if you want to go that route. I actually think it's a little intense, because the therapist makes you relieve everything. I personally work with crystals, and there are several of them that are good for overcoming traumas. You can use them as meditation aids, along with candles, incense, and relaxation music.
If you'd like any further help feel free to message me personally! :-)
I am a psychotherapist and I am trained in hypnosis. I just happened to run across this tread. Hypnosis would help you in conjunction with therapy to process the feeling that come out of the hypnosis. One big misconception about hypnosis and I say it stated here is that you don't have control over your mind. This is simply not true. You are aware the entire time although you are in a trace state you can stop at any time and cannot be made to do anything you would not usually do. Understand it is a process and not a quick fix. You cannot just erase unwanted memories but you can though hypnosis desensitise yourself to them. Feel free to contact me if you have further questions.
I tried Hypnosis to deal with my past trauma and with the consequences of the spirits and other enteity around me interacting, but sadly I can not be hypnotize...so in ym case it is not good.
Other alternatives would be good, if there was other. Still I consider hypnosis also dangerous , you need to be sure the one you are allowing to do it to you is a person you fully trust, since dammage can be done under hypnosis as much as healing
I'm so sorry for your loss and how it happened. Please keep in mind, even though you were on the bus, it wasn't your fault, you are a victim of this tragedy as well. In time, woulds will heal. The mind seems to have a self protective mechanism. For example, some tragedies in my life that have happened, I can't remember. It's like a void is there. But I know it's there to protect me. Your mind will protect you as well. :)
Yes I rather do like that dafety feature, that keeps you from remembering. I have NO memory of my accident, I knw I was spinning but aftr that I couldnt tell ya , I have tried remembering and well just can't. All I know is when i came to I was In a ER and people were crying.
I would say a trained trauma therapist would be best. this kind of trauma should not be suppressed. its best to talk about it and learn to move on.
Well, as a person that has been in and out of therapy for years, I would say that it helps to see someone that knows their stuff. But most don't know anymor than I do, from my reading and learning from a very smart counselor years ago. She started me on my path for more self help.
The answers and healing are going to come from within. That I know. There are really good books, by LOUISE HAY, that are excellent for healing. Go get some of her books. Some are very little and aren't much money. They focus on positive affirmations and positive feelings. She had cancer and healed herself with changing the negative inside voice. It's important to change that inner negative dialog into positive AND to view the situation in a new way, a new angle.
What Jamie said was perfect.
Healing from trauma comes from inside of a person. Any form of relaxation technique can be used if it works for that person but true healing takes place inside of the individual. Hypnosis only works on those who are open to using it. The same can be said of incense, candles, meditation, prayer, or music.
With all things, it's best to see a good therapist. They can give you options and help that may not be available to you otherwise.
I think that the mind will attempt to heal itself without a person seeking hypnosis. Flashbacks may actually be similar to dreams in that they could be the subconsious mind's attempt to make sense of things and bring healing.
What if it's something that a person can't handle by themselves though?
Time heals and such but I know that in my personal life there have been things that I could not have pulled through had I not had assistance from other things and people. It may be that I was more weak than someone else would have been in the same situation..but I'm unsure. I think that hypnosis could help a person to deal with issues that they suppress into their subconscious because in consciousness they aren't equipped to deal with how traumatic an occurrence was.
i had hypnotherapy hoping it would help for childhood trauma but it wasnt too good for me as i remembered more than i probably should of.
your memories are there, and i believe that your mind hides things purpously, mind the spelling the computer is bit dumb this morning.
Therapy does help with traumatic events so I would shop around and find a therapist that you're comfortable talking to.
Well I am not the hypnotist but i know the hynotizm has the levels and I saw hypnotist shows and saw they even with mare vocal command make stranger dance or jump like frog here and there in the mass...
oh my God yet I am laughing of that show many peepal of my colony were dancing after he gave command to at least 25 peepal and tehy were dancing like they aree having dj from heaven and no else were hearing the music...
we shocked coz it was my college age and this was new to me. the hypnotist gave command from east 25 feet away adn among sitting public they started dancing like crazy to his command ha-ha.
yes hypnotist has wings of reiki too and mind control and conscious control and intellact control even distant.
its very helpful in field of healing and investigation and curing too...
I hea o one hypnotist teacher who just cure after having even glimpse of the person in his photo 1000s miles across the world.
Well for me, i kow we tried all sorts of thingsm but sometimes things are so locked in your memory that there is no bringing them to the surface, and it just took time working it out thru dreams
It is possible that hypnosis could help...they use it for many purposes. It couldn't hurt to look into it further...Therapy of any kind could be helpful on that note.
i think sometimes there is a reason for not knowing or remembering such things and think that there can be negative effects of knowing but i know sometimes it can be a positive one as well,i think caution is a must.
Trauma in childhood is never a good thing as a person has not been able to develope fully. i'm not saying that trauma later in life is any less difficult to deal with. personally i wish i had tried hypnosis after all that i went through both childhood and in my teen years but like many have said its not a defenate cure as each person reacts differently. i know that most people have spoek about the trauma of having a loved one taken from you which has also happened to me but i'm like to point out that there are other kinds of trauma. the two that effected me the worst where having my whole school from students to teachers to the principle mistreat me for no apparent reason and the betrayal of my first and only love with a newly made friend just as we where getting engaged and searching for a place to live.
I believe that hypnosis can help with anxiety disorders, but not so much with traumatic instances/memories. I have PTSD and have tried hypnosis...didn't work.
Most traumatic memories can be triggered subconsciously through smells. At the time of the trauma, you may have smelled something and if you smell something similar in the future, a traumatic memory could kick in....even if you don't realize you smell that particular scent.
What I'm getting at is be aware of the time frame your traumatic incident happened and maybe every year when it comes time for that anniversary, plan to do something recreational....take a vacation and relax ;)
Meditation and a calming environment helps a lot too...incense, candles and whatnot...other than that..healing just takes time and effort.
Talking does help a bit, but in the end you have to make the decsion to move on.
Its not that you have to "make the decision" to move on..you have to talk about the things that are bothering you with someone who will listen and be able to provide you with sound, professional advice.
Healing takes time.
I agree with the comment above me, in the end, you have to make the decision to move on by yourself.
Any type of trauma can be overcome mentally, even if you carry physical scars from it.
I'm not sure about hypnosis, but maybe meditation would help?
Meditation is an excellent tool to aid in relaxation, but definitely not a cure ;)
I've been through hypnosis...didn't help.
Meditation helps a little. Pretty much the thing that heals the most is the passing of time and being able to talk about whatever has traumatized you.
Such as the passing of a loved one...grieving helps and with time, you will be able to move on with your life a little easier. You will never forget that person and always miss them, but the emptiness decreases in small increments over time...
witnessing someone get killed...that would take more time to get past.
you have to find something that keep you busy.
stay aware,don't empty your head.
some say, time is the great doctor, but it won't work if your mind not allow it.
I read an article recently which described scientists being capable of knowing your decision to push a green button or a blue button up to 10 seconds prior to the subjects knowing what they were going to select.
This is due to the subconscious and it's ability and need to relay information to the conscious state. There are distinct states of mind, which allow us basic and more intelligent roles. There communication is imperative, and it is the job of the subconscious to communicate to the conscious and not the other way around.
Hypnosis helps to create a two way stream of communication and this can definitely help.
I'm very sorry for your loss, I couldn't imagine witnessing an event like that.
The psychological studies I've encountered regarding hypnotism suggest that its effect is highly dependent on how impressionable a persons mind is. So it would have little to no effect on someone who is a skeptic. On those it does have an effect on, its unclear if the results are from the hypnotism itself or if it simply works because the person expects it to.
My personal suggestion would be to first read books and practice meditation, as that's the least costly route. If you are still having trouble, I would say find a therapist rather than a hypnotist. The hypnotism may work, but for the money, I think a therapist would be a safer bet.
Whatever you do, though, ALWAYS research the person you are going to see and make sure they have the right credentials.
Best of luck!
You slow time ... you breathe. You listen to your breathing, feel it, consume your thoughts with your own existence.
Define in your mind what that means to you, so you can place a value on what you lost. It's scary to detail out what you will never have again.
It's necessary to point out to yourself exactly what this event and person meant to you, so you know how to place values in the future as events unfold.
How do you make time to grieve when your life is really hectic and wont give you the time?
This could be a thread all to its self, I found that not many people want to take time for grief, they want the quick way out, and there are plenty of people that cater to that mentality.
Grief is a process, it takes steps. What those steps are, I am not a professional. A person that helps manage grief is a counselor.. I find it odd that people that attack the profession, are willing to go to Spiritual Healers, and such, a percentage of which are usually pop-up shops.
I have yet to see a person that went to an alternative "practice" that had any long term relief from anxiety, grief, depression,PTSD, sure there is a fuzzy after glow, but in the long run.. they still had nightmares..
Trama needs to be not only dealt with after it happens (as soon as possible) it needs to be fortified, and prepared for, another tramatic encounter can effect your current Loop Experience. Some form of defusing is needed. You have reached out, seeking resources that is a good thing, a positive step.
i think one needs time to heal before they try to embark on any hypnosis, but i do think that it could help, dealing with any traumatic experience can be a hard thing to cope with.
Sometimes hypnosis can help people with trauma but i feel other times it does not.
I don't know if it depends on how receptive the person is to the hypnosis or how traumatic the event was for the person.
Well after my accident amd mynearly beat me half to death they tried hypnosis because i had no recollection of what ldup to the vents what so ever still dont to this day and i have come to aptthat some things are best left in the past
well the hypnotist or reiki master if aware of the impact the trauma caused on the body, it can reveresed by even tap of the finges on the nerve tree and even from distant... it can even with tap on nerve tree, regulerise the bp, flow of blood, can vcalm down the worry and thoughts...
this my opinion and personal belief only and I feel personally this is true and do not pull others to my this opinion and belief and firmness of thoguht is true.
Lady Dark Rayne
I understand what you speak of, the events leading up to what happen, as well as the things the victim/witness did during the event, like what did they fix on after the event? How they replay the scene over and over.. the Loop it is called. The show, After the Attack, when they take the people that were attacked by wild animals through the event, to show them tangibly, that they survived. And that the event was triggered not by randomness, but by a behavioral instinct. The skill of a Trama Counselor is needed, and in a clinical setting. Could be as simple as one visit, to a few sessions, communities have these services . On tap now, but it hasn't always been that way.
A good hypnotherapist can indeed help. Find a really good one. You first need to define exactly what it is that you want to heal or what your goal would be. A good hypnotist should not try to make you forget the pain or trauma. In fact, they probably shouldn't even deal with it.
If you can define how you want to feel and convey that to the hypnotherapist, they can help you on your way.
Do you remember how the children on the bus with you responded to the event? Do you remember the exaggeration, or any lack of sympathy?
Was their a sense of bragging by some who where on the bus? Something a girl I knew mentioned about a bar shooting, came to mind. It was not so much the event that she was "hung up on" but the manner in which other people represented the event.
