There is a show called Ghost Hunters, where a group of people in The Atlantic Paranormal Society (TAPS) investigate places/buildings with supposed hauntings. They gather audio and visual information with devices such as digital thermometers, EMF (electromagnetic field) scanners, infrared cameras and the like. They try to debunk ghost sightings with logical exclamations, as in a cold spot reported which actually turns out to be a draft under the door.

Sometimes - according to the show - they record evidence on their equipment that cannot be explained away and dub a place haunted. My question to you is, do you think there is any credence in TAPS’ recording of paranormal activity that - according to the show - proves hauntings/ghosts. What do you think of the show?

I like watching the show, they do try their best to debunk everything and sometimes things just can't be debunked, regardless of what you feel towards the paranormal field, somethings just can't be explained, does it mean it's paranormal, maybe, maybe not.

I like the guys except Steve can be annoying at times.

Good show but completely fake.

I love the mystery of the show, specially when they enter into places that are really old.
I feel that there is truth to some of their findings and some not. Some things are able to be debunked and some are not able to be debunked.

I have not watched this show in a long time, and there are things that can be explained, and some things that can't be. For example: they went into this one house, and they were in the bedroom upstairs, and this door that was LOCKED kept opening up by itself.

I watch it all the time, I don't miss a show. Yes, I think there is truth in what they are doing.

I think there is alot of skepticism of the show, i have tried to watch it but many times i feel this is just another show. sometimes the evedince seems to be there yet they debunk alot of it as speculation that might be.

and the spin off GHI (Ghost Hunters International)
I am glad they are out there helping people and debunking.

I believe that there are ghosts. I believe they debunk what they can and what they cant they still try.

There are some people who will call a talk show and pretend to have be in the situation, just to be on the show. Jerry Springer for example. So you will get people that are claim hauntings just so they can say, we where on TAPS.

I would like to see TAPS invited to a house after The Rusty Nail Society visits the house. If they have footage, and sound for their top anomly they should put them in a show together. Going back to each house should produce the same results. I wish there was a show just to investigate peoples claims, the boost of claims BTW went through the roof when shows like TAPS and Haunting came out. Occult popularity goes in fad cycles.

My opinion of the show is if your trying to disprove the theory of ghosts by using equpiment. I don't understand how people can label that fake. You close your mind to one fact , and that fact would be that this is the only life in the universe. All that is on this planet and nothing more. I find that really hard to believe.

The show is a really good show. Lately it's had a few down sides K2 meter for instance which i'm feeling more and more compleded to use.

Only life in the universe.. are ghost life, would that be more accuratly stated as the only stage of existence in this universe?

i'm a natural skeptic so just because they can't disprove some things doesn't make me believe, but it's so much fun to watch and speculate!

The group dynamic of people that claim to be haunted, when in company with such people says as much as, if not more then, the actual instruments.

I would like to see them us more fixed cameras as well, I mean at least get a stable camera man, I get sick of bouncing camera shots.

As merely a spectator though I cannot trust that they are ruling out every logical possible explanation for noises, lights, and temperature change. The premise might be to debunk, but the networks thrive off of the unexplained and I am sure they have some say as to what gets aired.

If nothing else, it is definately entertaining TV.

Investing too much into any "reality" based show is not a good idea, but people will do so. Yet people will also miss exactly what Meepers mentions so well, that it is entertainment.

I honestly don't think they would show anything real concerning the "paranormal" otherwise it would be restricted by the government. The stuff we see on all these local cable channels like TAPS is just a show, there is nothing "real" or legit to it.

Some things they do might be actual methods to finding a "ghost" but TAPS is fake. There is no question about it. Two plumbers lol come on now.

Yes, I enjoy watching Jason and Grant and their crew. However, I do not believe one needs a PhD or other pedigree to investigate in the manner that they do. Likewise, would they have anymore credibility if they were lawyers or investment bankers for Merrill Lynch perhaps.

They don't debunk everything, not nearly even. When you talk about a ghost or something paranormal, you need to take it very seriously. A lot of people nowadays don't and the second they see something flash in the corner of their eye they scream and think they are being haunted.

This is not a game. TAPS looks like a very big game to me.

When you're dealing with paranormal things you need to be very careful and very very skeptic. TAPS doesn't have that, they WILL say a place is haunted if something just freaks them and they run away.

Yea no observation can be made when you run at every little bump. Would it be too much to ask for them to get a good camera crew as well.

Then there was the one where the family met them in the front yard and went into the house yet one member was missing, there was a behind camera sound of "running across a floor.. so obvious it was a person banging on the floor from under the house.

I have never seen the show, but I do think that ghost are real. I have some friends that say they have ghost in theri house. THey can see the shadows, but there is no body. There is however a outline or see through type of body there.

Taps made me believe!

they are awesome , if i could i would do some ghosthunting with them in a second!

*btw they never run away! they always go if something happens they stay there and even run after it , to investigate!

I just wish they could get some skilled camera crews, and a few fixed cameras as well.

love the show. I credit those out to "disprove" paranomal phenomena and do it WELL. they admit when they encounter legitemate hauntings and have come up with some....VERY...convincing material. GREAT SHOW!!!

Thinking that ghost perform for people.. I cannot help to wonder how debasing that is to the ghost, who are desperately trying to accomplish a mission in this life so they can pass over. what if a ghost registers they lose presence? What if ghost are scared by people noticing them, or in position to notice them.. what if it freaks them out and makes them use vital energy to evade being sighted. "Oh ghost are so entertaining, entertain us ghost, jump through hoops for us.. " Well I for one speak for the ghost, they need representation, they don't sign a release, they are just exploited for entertainment. To awe people. like this planets only acceptance of ghost is for entertainment and selfish sentimentality.

I used to love this show but they stopped screening it here in New Zealand early last year :(

The episode with the lighthouse was awesome, also the one where one of the guys (Steve?) got attacked in one of the institutions they were investigating was freaky.

I believe there is ghosts in the world but i think that show is totally staged and made up sometimes just go get episodes.

I found unsolved mysteries a much better show then Ghost hunters.

Over all they never get anything really conclusive and its a waste of money that could go for say some show like who wants to be a sci fi star or who wants to be a super hero 2 or were they on 3

( Sorry) A show on channel 31 I flicked on it the other day for 15 mins they went on to say how the recorded a ghost as a chair the had been taping had moved ever so slightly that with bare eyes I could not see it. Then the went into details how was a ghost what sex where it was funny

the show is possibly fake yes. But i do believe that it is possible to pick up energy on certain forms of equipment. Take a cam corder into a cemetery around midnight. You might be shocked by some of the things you'll see on the tape after words.

I haven't seen the show, but have heard about it. i know a lot of the paranormal groups around me in Michigan try to imitate them, so i don't think they are fake.

I think its a bunch of crap...the egos there r ridiculous..they expect to get activity just because they r there with their equipment? and if they dont? oh well then, it couldnt possibly be haunted..geeze bite me...

i've seen i episode of taps and i didnt like it as much as Paranormal state i mean paranormal state to me is more realistic they never really say a place is haunted or do really haunted houses but they get people who say they are experiencing paranormal activity come to their house and do all the audio and visual stuff

sometimes nothing happens sometimes little things happen but they are always trying to help the people rather then scare viewer to me

I personally like the show Ghost Hunters myself. It's interesting not only when they do find paranormal activity, but when they find logical reasons someone might be experiencing what they think are hauntings. I remember one show where the residents/workers of the place were so sure that a ghost was tugging on their hair in the basement and it was discovered that it was merely long cobwebs.

It's interesting to see people's expressions (usually unhappy) when they are told that their place is NOT haunted. Then again - some of them don't want it to be.

Yes, the lighthouse one was very interesting. I also have to laugh when they startle each other - but I have not seen a show where they "run away."

I love the show, and I know stuff like that can be recorded and heard or seen. I have lived in three haunted houses in my lifetime, so I know the paranormal exists. I also like to go out to the local battlefield here in town at night and record clips, you would be amazed.....ive caught gun fire on my clips and everything. Its really wild. But yes I think the show is for real and they do great work.

I have watched a few more eps. and I watch the people that live in the houses, I want too see a British Show like this actually, I think the British could really flush out the attention seekers that come out of the wood work for TV show appearences.

There's times when I am like yeah that show has to be real..And then there are moments when I watch the show and I am just WTF. They are dumb, this shit is fake. Theres' the one Brian I don't know if he's on it anymore or what not cause last time I saw they got rid of him and then he came back. But he like jumped at everything and calmed everything was hunted. So Idk about that show.

Like most thing Para-normal based the people involved get jaded, look at Sylvia Brown, that hag.. err woman is super jaded by her own performance, she jumps her cues, rattles off rhetorics.. goes through the motions.. I think getting excited on cue has an adverse effect on spectators as well as performers, or "investigators" in this case.

Personally I do not watch the show but did when they were are Wright Patterson Air Force Base which is close to where I live.

It was pretty neat because it was the first episode I had seen that showed something that could not be explained. They had a penlight on the floor and told the spirit that was there that if they were truly there to make the flashlight turn on. It did turn itself on from no apparent moves from the guys at all as it was sitting in the middle of the floor.

Some may think that there is nothing to it but personally I like the fact that they aren't there to make you believe in something existing but rather the fact that they try to find logical explanations to what some may think is paranormal.

They say in "THEYR opinion is not haunted" , or
"its haunted".
They dont say "i say its not haunted , so deal with it! you have no ghosts crazy person!""

My younger sister watches the show a lot and when I get a chance, I try to catch it too. I personally believe in ghosts and paranormal so it interests me. Wether what they do on the show is real or faked, no one can really tell. There are so many tricks that can be done on film that no one can catch, so I don't truly believe all of it. I do like the fact that they try to debunk it rather than jumping to conclusions and calling everything haunted.

Thank you..that is what I was trying to get across...they aren't saying that it isn't possible but they do try to give logical explanations as to what could be causing the events for a person to believe that they may have a haunting.

Yes, this is one of the reasons I like the show. They try to find a logical/scientific reason for reported paranormal disturbances.

I like the show, but sometimes it feels like they too readily debunk things. If that makes sense.

They will readily debunk things if they know from their investigation that they have found the sources from other things such as loose pipes, for example.

They have also came to an undecided conclusion where they could not say yea or nay either way and then there have been times that they themselves will say that there is something there.

I have watched one episode..the one when they were at a lighthouse.It was creepy ,but what struck me weird is that after they got that footage and all that stuff happened,they left right on schedule.Im sorry,but if I were to have experienced that? I would have stuck around and investigated further.So,I pretty much lost interest and never watched it again.

I really enjoy this show. What i like best about it is that they do try to debunk things. They are one of the few shows that doesn't jump at a orb and say that it's a ghost. I think it's amazing how they try to prove things wrong where most make everything into that it's a ghost..

use to watch the show when i had cable not to long ago. good show. but me knowing it is a show.... no telling what is fixed. but i think they set stuff up for the shows sake. but some of the orbs they some times have i do ponder of them. lol

PS: i think they should have more groups airing on tv(maybe a channel dedicated to it ) i know i would be watching it all the time!

Not all are fake. Like most things TV produces what people like to see. Sometimes they make it up just to please people and get the ratings.

You can really tell the fake from the real.

One thing is for certain..it is a TV show that is there for entertainment.

So so show...... to many screams and theatrics off camera. Nothing solid ever caught on camera. I agree with Dabbler the camera work is lacking, if they truely were capturing "proof " the show would be a lot more dynamic.

I have been watching that show since it started several years ago. They are a bit more apt to admit when a place is haunted than they used to be. They used to say no all the time and it would just really piss me off. Now when there is all this evidence, they would finally say, "Ok, I admit, it's haunted.". That is mainly Jason more than anyone. That's why they gave him shit about it. "Come on! Say it!". haha.....

I do think sometimes that they push too hard to refute the evidence and blow off some stuff that looks very paranormal to me. I don't like that when they blow stuff off. Hell, seems that if a ghost doesn't come up and slap them, practically, which they have before, then they won't admit it sometimes.

just because activity doesnt happen when they r there doesnt mean anything.. any place that is haunted doesnt have activity 24/7 like they seem to expect. and just because they r there the ghosts etc are supposed to show up like your calling your dog to come home.. come on..

Its a good show. I think that the findings are real and they do prove the existence of ghosts. But I also think they stretch it to much top actually debunk the presence of ghosts

With the popularatrity of "reality" shows, and the popularity of occult topics, you are guarenteeed a bunch of devoted watchers of a hack show about ghost, people are much more interested in the after life then they are in the life they are in.. lets all sit back and watch pathatic ghost, bang around on camera.. is that entertaining? Or is that Informative? Please someone answer this question.. what application is there in ghost hunting? Or any activty involveing ghost?

When the show first started they seemed to find alot of hauntings now they never seem to find hauntings except for once in awhile

Indeed Dabbler the only application it would carry is self interest...that and the possibilty of generating a future tourist attraction. Other than that the show in no way "proves" anything just supports claimes that are already in existence or they wouldnt have been called out to the location in question to begin with.

It is something to note that most haunted places are Bed and Breakfast Inns. Not necssarily on this show, and I can understand the promotional aspect of hauntings. In the tradition of haunting entertainment was once the priority. It has been high jacked by spiritualist. What was once a parlor delight is now a religion rampant with corruption, and exploitation.

I love that program i watch it every wednesday if i can.

I love this show, Steve is my favorite even tho I admit he can be annoying at times, although I think Brian is worse. Occassionally they do find stuff that is hard to explain , but that doesnt necessarily make it paranormal, yet on the other hand I can't say that it's not paranormal. They try to debunk as much as they can, but considering it is a television show, and ratings are a matter of importance, I think that occassionally they have to spice up (meaning tamper with) some of the material. Even so, it's still fun to watch.

In general I like this I think some thing they dismiss because there are people who dont believe and with certain types of evidence you still can't prove its a haunting so they use things that can't be easily dismissed. I love the show, but if it true or not I'm still on the fence

It is the human trait. If we do not believe in something we will try anything to prove it doesnt exist. On the other hand people will do anything for a quick buck and pretend they have all the information yet they dont have anything, they will use all the tricks in the book to fool you.

I do Believ if they catch a full body apparition , the schepticals will say , its a lie , and the believers will say its proved!

Skeptics go out of their way to prove it wrong. They will make up any excuse to disprove the evidences. Even if they cannot prove it wrong they will make up a reason.

I mean nothing is ever caught on film and it's alway s(something is unexplained) and what the F is up wththe whispering what are they sneaking up on the ghost? lmao and the EVP's I mean it's possible that they exist but there is no way to prove that they aren't real b/c I'm not cheking every bit of equipment i can see if they put cameras in every room and left and caught something on film then u can say ok thats accurate why? b/c NO ONE ELSE WAS THERE AND WE COULD ALL ACCOUNT FOR It but with ppl in the house and tlaking they don't know what they heard what they saw this that and theother thing u know? shti is contantly in question.. s0 I don't believe any of it..

I saw one show that they accually gave themselves away. They had it rigged so it would look like a ghost and when they went to film the show something happened where they werent suppose to. You could see the fear of not being in control in the faces of the crew. They showed how they rigged things up and there was nothing to show what happened it was awesome to see them stutter and the fear in them.

Not everything that goes bump in the night is a ghost. There are some valid reasons behind why things happen but sometimes there is no other reason except for a ghost. People have got to relise this and not try and flog it off as something it isnt.

Like kytryn said...paranormal activity does not act on command. I think the show does have some merit.
