Hey guys its been a while ^^

Ok so I have been downloading The True Blood series ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT, I was just wondering what people would think of being in that situation.

-Would you choose the True Blood over a potential victim?
-Would you go mainstreaming?
-Would it work?

So I was just wondering what people think.

the novilty of ordering some O Neg blood room temperature at the nighclub would never get old. its almost sexier than seducing a victim to prey on. almost.

I would like to think that if under the same situation, I'd remain in the shadows or face lynch mobs because people are always afraid of the unknown.

Synthetic to real, well if I were a vampire, I'd have to stay REAL. Maybe have a couple of donors that I loved and therefore could feed off of, kind of how vampires are today. A good relationship with a human would definitely be a better experience then sipping something from a bottle, just my opinion

The real thing! Its so much more intresting, taking away a vampires need to feed on others makes them far too normal to be intresting.

The vampires of "True Blood" exist in an alternate reality, as befitting a fictional TV show. There are those who, like Bill, seek to fit in to the dominant culture. He drinks Tru Blood and lives quietly among the human folks of Bon Temps. But he still has the thirst for good old blood. Unlike Bill, there are other vampires who continue to treat humans as food, and create a lot of legal problems in the community. Sookie is fascinated by Bill and falls in love with him, leading to the inevitable giving of her blood willingly to him.
On the other hand, Sookies' brother Jason becomes addicted to vampire blood. It is like ecstasy and LSD, and a STRONG aphrodisiac. Jason discovers how powerful it is when he takes a large amount and has some undesirable side effects. The vamp blood is collected from willing and unwilling donors and sold by dealers. The series is altogether different from anything I have ever seen in the vampire fiction genre. I have read the novels the series is based on, and love it.

Personally I would follow the example of Bill, and try to fit in, but keep a lower profile. Trublood does not completely do away with the real thing. I don't think it would work if I was a vampire in Bon Temps.

Going into restaurants and bars and ordering Trueblood would require a "flag-waving" mentality, the kind who like to test the waters, prove a point, like the first blacks integrating the counter at Woolworths. You expect scorn, maybe even a fight, but what's right is right. Somebody's gotta do it.

Trueblood is a collection of 7 books, the first book is season one of the telly show.

Personally I am more like Eric, the owner of Fangtasia. He is the only individual on the show thus far that has my distinct personality...That is a hard thing to come by. You watch Eric, you are basically watching me (IRL)...Which is a bit amusing for me.

A vampire ordering a glass of blood at a bar? Doesn't sound real pleasant to me, but I may try it. I think the predatorial instinct in a vampire would have some issues with it. Its like cageing a lion from the wild and tossing it steaks to eat, yes it will eat them to survive, but ultimately it is going to ravange the thought of the once hunt it had on the seirra, it would open the potentail for some very frustrated vampires, who may in turn become more aggressive when they did feed.

Personally if I were a vampire I would not choose Trueblood - I would like top be a vigilante and clean all the really bad people out of prison and stop wasting our tax dollars on them.

I would feed on rapists and child molesters and murderers happily until I got rid of them all!

I'm not sure that once turned, I would immediately be able to control my urges and ordering some True Blood at the bar. I would probably give in to my instincts and hunt. I think giving up hard coded instincts like those would take a very long time. Especially if you know that human blood tastes better than the synthetic type.

The whole point of the show is that vampires have come out of the closet and want to be accepted in human society. In order to do so, they have to "quiet" human concerns.

First, about the blood.

Second, about the sex.

The author drew parallels with the gay community, but I see more comparisons with racial integration . . . the whole black sexual prowess thing, the power in the blood like x for humans, and also the white fear of being replaced, not only in bed but in the work force.

There's a reason it's set in the South (yeah, the author lives there), but this is history folks. you can read about it.

Well I've never seen this show and never intend to watch it, but...
I always thought the point of drinking blood was to sustain the vampire's own life, they need it to survive, to extend their long lives. Wouldn't drinking synthetic blood, well, not have that effect? Wouldn't it defeat the whole point of blood drinking? Don't whinge at me here either about the whole 'vampires aren't immortal thing' because I don't believe in the whole 'modern vampire' concept.

What someone believes is just that...personal belief but not necessarily facts because if that were true many would abandon certain belief systems.

I haven't read the books and I don't know I find the show a little campy but I did get caught up in the story. I feel there is too much predictable violence and sexual encounters which makes it for me borderlining soft porn. I hope they get away from that and get into the meat of some sort of complex storyline.

Eric is my favorite vampire because he appears to be the best of both worlds. You can see compassion in him as well by how he handles the tribunal against Bill. I like the hard edge with that side which is there but not overt. Of course it doesn't hurt that he is a Swedish superstar almost and was voted most sexy guy in all of Sweden five years in a row, lol. I don't like the grundgy look that is so popular now with men in the entertainment industry and he doesn't look like that. So many shows have these passably good looking males with extremely good looking females and if I watch a show I want to be entertained and not look at the guy I could see every day walking down the street and especially not those that look like they slept in their clothes and haven't shaved.

I like the fact there are other supernatural beings in the story as well. Sam is funny and adds depth to the story and so does Tara. I think that character at times makes the episodes. I would prefer not to see someone dying each segment. I also would like to know more about the woman who made Bill.

As far as drinking synthetic vs. real blood, well as you can see even Bill will drink human blood in certain situations so even though he does drink synthetic it isn't all of the time. I think he tries to control his urges and wants to fit in and others are doing it because their society came out and they will be judged and possibly be harshly dealt with if they go against the majority as it is in most things in life.

I would probably go with the TrueBlood drink - since readily available and full of what a vampire needs to sustain itself...

however, having the pleasure of biting and taking of blood from someone would always be there for a vampire I would think...but it would be for pleasure and not for need to live.

Just going with the show's premise of course, with my answer.

I would probably be more like Eric as well - interacting with humans but not attempting to be one. I would still drink from humans for the most part, but I would have a TruBlood if I were out mingling with humans in one of their social scenes.

I love the show trueblood. If I was a vampire, I would probably try mainstreaming so that I would be accepted in someway amongst the humans, but if that didnt work hunting would have to do. Its really whatever works out best for you.

i would mainstream and seduce really sexy guys and feed off them, then keep doing that for the rest of eternity. Sounds like having guys to *erm insert sex description here* on a regular basis would make tru-blood not needed. Or if it was still needed, then mix in some of the herbs which can make a good spice to blood giving it a better flavor.

In recent years, we've seen the "vampire" myth go from Bela Lugosi's classic portrayal of same to the ridiculous portrayals of such neo post-modern "classics" (*shudder*) as found in "The Lost Boys", "John Carpenter's Vampires", "From Dusk 'Til Dawn", to the refreshing and widely touted Ann Rice's "Interview of the Vampire" before yet again reverting to more eye-rolling Hollywood re-invents (e.g. "Blade", "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" "30 Days of Night")... and now on to the latest infantile absurdity: "True Blood."

While Hollywood knows that the mystique and allure of anything "Vampire" will always hold public interest and, thus, will continue to seek new and ever-more absurd ways of re-inventing "vampires" for public consumption... yet, really now, ... must we suffer "True Blood" as one of them? Now we have an entire series founded upon this eponymous bottled blood substitute marketed and sold over the counter to the latest re-invention of "vampires" who, with us now, also worship at the idol of the gods of Consumerism in buying up bottles of this synthetic stuff with much the same glee as do alcoholic frat kids buy up six-packs at the local Wal-Mart. Apparently, vampires are just like all the other suburbanite working stiffs (punny, ain't I?) out there in redneck land just waitin' for quittin' time so's to get home to their bottled beverage of choice and get a "buzz" on.

Are we all so desperate to either consider ourselves to be vampires, or so wanting to have them become just like Humans that we must devalue and devolve them into becoming... this?!

To answer that question and this forum topic's queries: heaven forbid that I, for one, should consider any such as livable, much less tolerable either as a lifestyle or as a cable-tv viewing choice.

Even though the human/vampire dynamic is going on, there will be and has been other things introduced of the supernatural. Sookie is telepathic and Sam is a shapeshifter and a lady that just showed up is something else. I haven't read the books but thinking she might be a werewolf due to Sam's attitude. Guess I will find out next season.

The show has an interplay between the vampires because Bill only comes from the Civil War era where they would not have been so tribal in nature in the human lifestyle but Eric was a Viking and is very old. He would most likely have been a warrior and use to shedding blood so his leanings would be for the real thing I would suspect and something novel out of boredom having lived so long. We must realize fiction is just that and not be so caught up on analyzing someone else's written imaginative works.

30 Days of Night is nothing like this story and dwells on the animalistic creature searching solely for victims and blood. Each writer has created their own world around their idea of a vampire. We either enjoy the fiction or we don't. It cannot be compared to history or anything else because it is all made up. It is for entertainment value only.

What I like is how True Blood shows that even though the vampires are supposedly dead, they still have some humanity within them. They try to convince themselves otherwise and those that are more recently made either run amok or are trying to mainstream like Bill and interact as a "race" to be considered equal to man and interact to them to the point of falling in love which seems to be something they actually can do but suppress. Some are more talented as far as abilities and others are just down right mean spirited. This was seen with some of the humans as well. Thing it shows to me whether vampire or human makes no difference the character of the individual cannot be suppressed and if they were the murdering type to begin with that would remain in tact. I think this type would not be satisfied with the synthetic blood. There will be renegades because without them...what do you built the storyline upon? It is always problems to overcome. So no many would not be satisfied with the synthetic stuff and if I was one of them don't think I would be either.

I love the Sookie Stackhouse series. I like the television show based upon that book series, but don't like all of the changes made to the book (Tara not owning her own store and being self-sufficient; Jason being addicted to V; etc).

Regarding the original question. Were I a fictional vampire in the Sookie Stackhouse series, I would probably buy the bottled blood. Although, being a vampire that feeds off criminals (human or vampire) a la Sonia Blue is very tempting, as well.
