I saw Twilight just to see what all the fuss was about, and I expected some sort of amazing cinematic masterpiece. So many people love it and I wanted to find out why.
Well, I was HORRIBLY disappointed, infact I'd put it on my list of worst films ever seen. Nothing seems to actually happen in the story, the characters have no personality, everyone looks weirdly unreal and it was just... strange in a bad way.
So who here agrees with me in saying that Twilight was utter tripe?

i could only make it about 50 pages into the book, to be honest. so i didn't even want to see the film.

and it think that stephen king said it right. take a look at usa weekend from a few days ago.

but that's just me.

I loved the books and therefor the movie was somewhat like seeing a dream on the screen. If you haven't read and loved the books I understand why you didn't like the movie. It doesn't make much sense if you don't know certain things that's in the book and then it becomes a bit ridiculous.
So I get your point, but I am soo in love with the twilight saga and I can't wait 'til the release of the next book or the next movie.

So many other ways to spend my money, but when it comes on cable I'm throwing a video party and my friends and I will get all shimmery (and sarcastic).

One gf went to opening night and every time Edward said anything the adolescent and prepubescent and their male cohort wannabees issued this high-pitched hormone-laden giggle which was kind of a virginal mating call.

Agreed. The Twilight books were amazing, however the movie was about as good and tasteful as a garbage dump. I hope New Moon is better. Cause seriously, Twilight was one of the worst movies ever.

I don't think it was on par with 'Attack of the Killer Tomatoes'. So no, not that bad.

I appreciated being able to see what I'd envisioned right before my eyes. It wasn't perfect, it wasn't excellent... but I still enjoyed it.

Just because it is a "vampire" movie, does not mean it needs to be rated as a "bad movie." It is just a movie and I do agree on the "attack of the killer tomato" bit. That was hilarious. Zombie chickens was even worse though. Poultrygeist, I believe the movie was called.

Many people dont like it when books get turned into films, unless the film has been given money to allow detail. I dont really like the twilight series, ive read the first book and couldnt stomach the 2nd. My friends LOVE them, but i know why :) Its because they havent read any better :)
The first series of vampire books i ever started to read was Black Dagger Brotherhood by JR Ward and let me tell you, every book ive read by a different author hasnt even come close to topping her series! But i wouldnt like to see them get turned into film, a series maybe, but even that is a risk as it may come out looking something like True Blood, or whatever it was lol.

I haven't seen it.. But I enjoy a mass movement as well as the next person, do let us burn, and rampage the director, and the Author.

But remember when the "Vampirer 2008" comes out, it is likely to get mocked as well. Pshaw such a hateable movie (I never watched).

I haven't gone to see it.
Everyone keeps talking about it and I'd rather not see it.

Plus, any vampire movie that is PG-13 isn't going to be that good anyway.

And, I got annoyed with my sister and my friends always talkin about it and lookin up stuff about it.

Oh my! Twilight was such rubbish. I took a friend cause they weren't having such a crash hot day, so we could go mock those who were enjoying that catastrophy on the screen, and it just made us violently angry.
And we were stoned! We're not ment to get angry! We're ment to be calm pot heads. Weeds a depressant for christs sakes!
But no. We shouted obnoxiously at the screen and then at those who were looking like they were enjoing that rubbish.

I've not seen a worse movie since my old high school did a film night of all the media students and one film was about the growth rate of grass! And that was a 5 minute long time laps of the same fucking patch of grass!

It was horrible.

The charracters were so awkward with one another, the acting was disgusting, there was no strong plot line, and fuck! I heard that Edward Cullen was meant to be hot shit!
He isn't!

I don't see what so many teeny boppers are swooning about. And i swear. If i hear one more "Like.. O..M...G! did you see Twilight? That was like.. the best movie ever! I want to kill bella and marry edward!" fuck!
grow up people!

end rant.....now.

Ive just had an amusing thought - Ask anyone who saw "interview with a vampire" when they where young and they'll probably tell you how its one of the best vampire films ever, ask them if they like twilight and they'll probably slap you lol. However, ask a young person in the present if they've seen either of these films and it maybe they love twilight but hate IWAV!

Very amusing.

I see herds, acting as a pack of wolves. Is it not those who are aggressivly
Reacting to a movie, and the trend/ fad it started , are themselves picked on by those that react to their apperance, so perhaps it steals attention from those who feel identifying as a vampire is a "mysterious" occult "esoteric
Clique.

I agree my family and friends have been giving me so much hype about the books and movie, broke down to see it, and left half way through the show. hollywood has tarnished the vampire myths with this bull. sorry, go back and watch the vampiric movies in the 70's, they had more class than this film.

You are lending fuel to a trend by generalized objection to a fad, social behaviour is predictable, fads ignored fade. Some that consider themselves above such behaviour do so in a predictable manner.

fads have been around since before we were born. and they will continue far after the life has left my body. it is a natural progress of society to follow the trends or cultural pops that seem new wave at the time.

Disco was a sub culture, twilight was a movie, based on a fictional genre.

So fads left alone fade.

What compels those who "protest so vigorously? I clearly stated I find the structured critique to be informative relating to demographics, ( I am compelled not to see it , until I can watch it on TV. Images makes a good case against the movie, it had a condistsnt memtion of shallow, others say it lacked "edge" "girls like to see guys gritty", a bit teen- rotica. Isn't that like eight grade, to shophmore? What appealed to us that the Msture kids "just don't get, as soon as a group surges they venture to promote, or build off the generes popularity/ curious appeal. How serious a context one has about vampires, and ones identity is as big bias, as there is.

I see herds, acting as a pack of wolves....

I see that all over this site with tons of things... how about vampire fans in general? Laurell K. Hamilton has a herd, Anne Rice has a bigger herd... I don't think the herd is what bothers people- it's the fact a bunch of people like something that is far more vanilla and tons less risque... it's not 'cutting edge' yet it has such a following. Well since it was meant for kids- once again... it's exactly what it's supposed to be.

There was a time when the adults thought all the kids were misguided for liking tons of different things- now we're the grown ups doing the same thing. And it seems some people put far more energy in to talking smack about Twilight. If you don't like something, don't give it so much thought. Lately the trend is to come here and make threads about how much it sucked- well as Cancer says, all publicity is good publicity.

First, disco will never die. Second, I didn't like the movie "Interview" when I first saw it, except for the character Claudia. Cruise couldn't talk well with his fangs. But he did capture the asshole side of Lestat.

That movie has grown on me. Still doesn't have the impact of the original Dracula or even Coppola's version, which was so good.

Doesn't matter. Twilight is vampire-lite for teenies. It's a brand and here to stay. Even lobbying against it put's the name out there guaranteeing sales.

Very true bloodmother, more of society with the drama of opposing sides indulge to see what the difference is.
i collect old horror films and have seen the genre of horror changing over the last couple of years.

It is a tennie bopper film, much like Harry potter was when it first hit the main stream, now look at it; it has grown darker and evolved to a mature audience standard to say. is twilight bound to do the same.

I don't care if a movie is PG or R if it is tasteful. I am not into blood and guts really and never have been. The Bela Lugosi version of Dracula was ok and a classic now. The other one with Gary Oldman I have but I thought the acting was stiff and didn't like the choice of any of the actors in it. I thought all of them were bad in the movie and it was over the top. Many vampire movies have been made and many of them not so good in overall quality but they are merely for entertainment and not necessarily masterpieces.

I haven't read any of the Twilight books but I know an awful lot of people love them and not all kids. I saw the movie online and was not too impressed and I think that happened because of all the hype. It had some good points and some bad. A movie has a budget and a screenwriter and it is how the people who are making the adaptation because that is all they are, envision the end result. Some of it is connect to money. They have to fit so much into a timeframe people can tolerate to watch, make it plausible to be filmed and keep within a set budget. It was NOT the worst movie ever made. "I Know Who Killed Me" has been placed in more recent films on the top of that list. As for vampire films, watch Bram Stoker's "Way of the Vampire" and then you will see a bad movie.

Twilight was all right, it was just too predictable for me and they made the lead male look like a geek with his goofy hair style. I saw him in Harry Potter and he looked much better. Narnia was written by C. S. Lewis and those books as well as Lord of the Rings have always been for younger audiences but have always had a large adult following. You can't make something like that into something it isn't and should know going into it what it will be. I think Disney has done an excellent job with the Lewis material merely because of his penchant for mixing mythology. Twilight didn't give us character depth and was somewhat predictable, shrugs, but I am sure if you read some things the director has said and other makers of the film you might get an inkling why. Some movies I have watched of this type make more sense if you listen to the logic behind its creation.

I have read the books therefore I loved the movie, but with out reading the books first the movie will be shit and not make any since.
I think the movie could have been better, they needed to add a lot more details then the movie would have made since.
They also needed a lot more money than they had hence the shittyness of the movie....
I just hope that since they have more money for New Moon that it comes out way better.

I'll be honest with you, I was never into Twilight- books or movies, though if it gets our youth to read that's awesome.

Now, on to my thoughts on the movie. Out of 5 stars I can't even give it 1. I tried to get into it but I couldn't. Personally I'm more into researching the roots of the vampire myths than I am getting hooked on another one. Also, never in my life did I like a soundtrack more than a movie before this....

Each have their own opinion of this film and many seem to have taken it as a mockery of vampire lore.

yet the books have been said to be better than the movie, yet we see this alot with movies, stephen king books was alot better than the movies, for it destroyed the true nature of the books.

Wish if the books were so intriguing that hollywood would follow the script or ploy of the books.

Some writers cross the line, and start writing straight to film books. Stephen King is one of them, Cats eyes was a Good King Movie though, and Fire Starter. Law Mower man was a sad disaster.

I thought the movie was okay, I'm a fan of the books, and granted it's no Stephen King or will ever live up his work, but i think it has got it's good points. It's directed to a younger audience, so the book wasn't much of a thinker or full of deep plot, it was suppose to be simple. It is just a love story. I enjoyed reading it. I guess you could call it a required taste. Depending on your reading preference. I will admit Bella and Edward's love thing is cheesy, with the I can't live without though I've only known you for a week, is a bit much.

I think the movie sparked an annoying fire of people taking the fandom too far with action figures and such. Also, making it a target to be trash talked.

I wish the movie went with the book better, it probably wouldn't have been such a nag in the media. The movie was full off corny overdone scenes.

I enjoyed the movie EXCEPT for 2 things.

#1: Kristen Stewart (Bella). I hated her as Bella. She was TOO distant from Edward, blinked TOO DAMN much.

#2: The scenes that just played music while they talked, but you couldn't hear what they were saying. I GET IT!!!!!!!!OKAY!!!!!!!They spent alot of time together, but the time they used to do those cut scenes could have went towards detailing the story. Going a bit deeper into the story line.

New Moon is Supposed to come out November 20th 2009. And they are only getting a 50 million dollar budget. They are highly thinking about recasting Lautner (Jacob Black ), not because of his acting, but the graphics to make him look older will cut into the budget. They also haven't found a director. Or Native Americans to play the werewolves.

Also, most likely Dakota Fanning will be playing Jane, but she hasn't confirmed whether she wants to do the part or not.

I completely agree with it being on my list of movies that sucked. It was very poorly done. It has been my experience that if a book only gets raves because they built a movie around it. Then its gonna suck. My gf wanted me to read the book and it was so ridiculous that i couldn't even get past the first chapter with out fear of death by boredom lol

My daughter has read the series and was so exicited to see a movie of it. She wasn't so crazy about it. She didn't hate it, but didn't think it was so great either. Some of her friends hated it though.

I saw some of it and it was boring and blah. The lead guy sucks. I don't see why he is a hot ticket now. My daughter said that they lacked the emotional intensity that they had in the book.

Wow, there are a lot of people who hated Twilight. I loved it, both the book and the movie. I agree that the movie was horrible. Even the directing sucked (this is the word of a friend-of-a-friend that took films stuidies classes). I thought the acting in places was really bad and the special effects were terrible. But I still loved it because I'm a huge fan of the books.

To vvSoulshroudevv: it's not because it's a 'vampire' movie that it's a 'bad movie'. It's because it was a BAD movie!

To bloodmother12208: They have found a director for New Moon, Chris Weitz. He did Golden Compass, American Pie, and About a Boy. Also, Taylor Lautner will be continuing as Jacob. If you look on Stephenie Meyer's website in the Twilight Series page under New Moon movie it says everything that's been happening so far.

I didn't hate the book series, but the little preteen girls completely blew it out of proportion. It wasn't that great and Edward Cullen is the gayest vampire ever, deal with it.

The movie was god awful. I completely agree that the characters had no personality and the twinkled to much in the god damn sunlight. -.-

I just don't understand what is so A-M-A-Z-I-N-G about Edward Cullen...he's not real, he's never going to be real. You fan girls are friken annoying.

Well, I liked the movie. I wasn't going into it expecting anything, so I wasn't disappointed.

Keep in mind, this was an independent film. It wasn't backed by a studio with major resources. I think the film is great for the budget it was made on.

I love the books~~ but the movie arghhh. The movie was B grade at best. The guy who plays Edward is definitely a piece of eye candy.......but the guy can't act at all. Actually he is one of the worst actors I have ever seen. What can I say........I am glad I didn't pay to see the movie. BM

I never saw it but I hear many things about it, and mainly it is about how cheesy the whole thing is. It is hard to have any interest in something that draws away from the symbolic characteristics of a mythical creature, in this case, a vampire.

On a side note, it is meant to be geared towards kids, young teenagers and women. It is common to find that most guys are not interested in it.

I liked the movie, after 5 minutes I became sick of all the teenage girls (and boys) giggling when Edward OR Jacob came onto the screen..
And now I'm sick of seeing that "lion and the lamb" quote everywhere.

Of course they are going to make a second movie. To date, Twilight has grossed over $188 million. It's now #98 on the list of best box office sales.. Of all time. Meaning, it's #98 when compared against every movie ever made.

That's higher than Gladiator (best picture winner), The Matrix, Pretty Woman, and a slew of other movies.

http://movies.yahoo.com/mv/boxoffice/alltime/

They'll make a second film.

There was not much of a budget for Twilight. They did the best they could with the budget they had to work with.
I was disappointed by the movie, but after watching it several more times I decided that it really was not that horrible.
The book has the movie beat to hell of course. I anticipate the next movie, New Moon with much excitement.

I am on the last book now. I absolutely love the books so far. Thanks to the books, I did go to see the movie. Sadly a lot of people who never read the books went to the movie because of the hype and were most likely disapointed. Without reading the books, I can see why you would hate it. The movie makes more sense to me having read the books. I myself loved the movie because it was like seeing what I read on the screen. I can't wait for the next movie to see how they do with that one. It's one of those to each their own things, some people love it and some people hate it. It's just the way it goes. I have seen a lot of books turned into movies. In my opinion this was one one of the better ones, but that is just my opinion.

I haven't seen it yet, I might see it when it comes out on DVD or wait for it to get uploaded on youtube or on TV, don't have that urge to see it, just the curiosity to see the fuss about it.

Indeed the fuss about it, discourages me more, I can't stand popular stuff.

I'm not a fan of the books OR the movie.

While having to sit through it, I had visions of digging my eyes out with hot spoons lol.

Even the teenager, who begged me to watch the movie with her, hated it.

Each to their own I guess, but I seriously wanted my $10 back 1/4 of the way into the movie lol.

I must admit that I am not a fan of the book series, though I did read them all. And, I was dragged along on opening night to see the film. As far as a book adaptation, the attempt put into the film was simply laughable. The acting, the effects, and most importantly, the story were just bad. I did try to be as non judgmental as I possibly could while watching the film, but even were I a fan of the books, I'd have hated it.

I do believe it was a hit or miss with people. I can name tons of people who simply loved the movie, and I can name some who would rather gouge their eyes out then have to sit through the entire film. No film inspired by a book will ever be as good as the book itself, nor will it make all fans of said book happy. There has only been one instance where I ever preferred a movie over the book version, and that was with Neil Gaiman's Stardust.

They tried, and they seemingly failed this time. Let us hope that the next movie won't be as bad.

I saw the movie before I read the books, took Wolfbite because I promised her I would, and it was alright. There are other Vampire movies out there that are a lot worse that is a definite.

I did decide to read the books after this movie viewing and I do have to say the books are, in my opinion, better.

I too, as was mentioned by others in this thread, look forward to the new movie coming out. Perhaps it will be better and chances are it could be worse. We will see.

I simply adored the books. The movie, well it disappointed me. Not because “it sucked” but because each time I felt the emotional connection start with Bella and Edward it cut to a new scene. They did the emo emotions of the book very well, they did the story well enough, but for me they cut the parts I wanted to see- the small things that made you “get” why Edward and Bella were a couple. So because of that- I didn’t care as much for the movie as I hoped for.

Was it a complete loss? I don’t think so- but face it, the story is a “chick flick” both in book and movie form and not everyone likes romance, or even this type of romance. I personally love these types of stories, especially when they involve supernatural and action :P

I have to say, first, that I enjoy reading the books immensely. No, I'm not a teeny bopper going from fad to fad, I'm 30 years old which is much worse LMAO.

However, the movie, well, i'd simply call that 'okay'.

Robert Pattinson is not who I would've chosen for Edward Cullen. This may sound odd, but his face is too.. hmm.. how to say it.. boney? lol Too chiseled.. I didn't like it. It looks like the clay used to make his face wasn't smoothed out enough or something...

Kristin Steward, in my opinion, is not a very good actress. In any movie I've seen her in, she might be attempting to portray whatever emotion she's trying for at the time but she always seems to be nothing more than BORED.

I guess that's my little Twi-Rant for the day ;)

I loved the books, but as soon as they made a movie out of it that was the end. I refuse to watch the movie because I know it can never have as much detail as the book, and I feel the characters (in the movie) will ruin my own perception of how I see Bella and the others and their relationships.

P.S. Can everyone stop harping on about the movie and putting up clips of it, because it really ruins the whole series of books.

That is the worst movie I've seen made since... eragon! but eragon was better by far! I feel like... they took a few key aspects of the book, wrote them down and made the rest on their own!

I also feel like they didn't care about making it a good quality movie and simply wanted to make fast because they knew the books were in such demand that they would be able to make alot off of it going through theater's!

They just completely changed the story around. and I believe that if they can't follow a storyline they just shouldn't make the movie. most books have little details that are very important in the future... which they totally skip.

I think they concentrated more on Edwards makeup than anything else in the movie... and they didn't even make him look hot!

*is highly disappointed*

If it was really so bad it wouldn't be such a success. Really (and I am not saying this in a William Hung American Idol performance fashion). Even after the first crowd watched it, there was a second, and a third, and so on.... Some people out there enjoyed it and passed the word.

It wasn't an Oscar winner, but it's an enjoyable film for what it is.

I didn't hate Twilight, the books were very very good for some one who loves to read. As for the movie, I will have to agree. I thought that the passion was no where near what I read in a book. If I could talk to Stephenie Meyer I would BEG her to replace that terrible, vile actress who played Bella. Grr...she pissed me off.
It is annoying and over advertised. It irritates me because half of the people who are on vampirerave right now, were not before that stupid series became popular. I read that book before anyone else. Now I am really beginning to wish I hadn't. Only because I have a natural hate for anything mainstream. But this is one persons opinions against thousands. I guess I can't really fight that. I will say that the fad will end and I can't wait for that day because I will dance on Bella Swans grave.

We have way more Anne Rice-induced VR names here than we do Twilght usernames. Search for some Lestat and Akasha variations as well as others of Anne's characters and find out for yourself. Let's not forget all the Alucards and Satan variations.

What's more apparent than anything, is that Twilight seems to be getting more advertisment on this site from those that hate it vice those that like it. If people really want to take notice away from it, I think they should stop talking about it themselves.

Ya know I think it depends on the age of the viewer as well. I always enjoy watching handsome guys lusting and fighting their inner demons..but what girl wouldn't *lol*
If one takes it as it is, simply a movie then it's good fun.
And as I said it's the angst ridden, hungry looking guys that are nice to look at. Like the Buffy television show, bad brooding boy lusting after nice girl. works for me.

I don't think it depends on the age... in my town, just outside of New Orleans- well over half the audience were adults ranging from the 20s-40s. They all left having had a good time from the reactions of the ending scene that made it obvious 'New Moon' was on the horizon for the silver screen as well.

The books will always be better than the movie, because there is more detail added to the books. I have read all the books and think they are great, especially for young adults, considering they YA books.

The movie was alright, but not as good as the book, since they couldn't put all the details in it. But if you read the book you could fill in the blanks.

I think they did a good job with what they had to work with, being an independent film company.

Books are always better than the movies made after them. It is just how it works. Like the person above me said, they can't add all the detail or the movies would be ridiculously long.

As for some of the really negative comments about how those of us who like it should be ashamed and what not...well, everyone likes differnet stuff. You would think this community could understand that, but I guess not...

Personally, I LOVE and I am HIGHLY obsessed with the Twilight sagaworld! I see how if you didnt read the books, you might not hve gotten the movie, but please remember that the movie had a VERY low budget. I thought it was a work of art. I love it for the poetry and magic. The way you can simply escape into the books. It is really the best movie/ series i've ever read/ seen!

I'm tired of the apples-to-oranges comparison of movies-to-books. One cannot be compared to the other because they are totally different entities.

Please tell me the last time you've said, "That movie was 1000% better than the book!"

You could only *start* to compare movies to books if you were comparing movies to books that take 2 hours to read. With the exception of trade publications, when was the last time you read a full novel in 2 hours? And don't get cute with how fast of a reader you are....

You invest more time in a book. It's a different medium.

Comparing movies and books is like comparing the movie Resident Evil to the video game Resident Evil. Video games have storylines... But people don't generally compare the two in a critical way. But if a movie is based on a book, lookout! The book fans come out of the woodwork and start shooting their arrows of dischord.

A movie is not a book.

I personally believe Queen of the Damned is one of the best vampire movies ever made. It has everything a good vampire movie should have. But because it is so divergent from the book (actually books, the movie has elements of both The Vampire Lestat and Queen of the Damned) there is a large contingent of "fans" who will never accept the movie.

Balderdash. If you ignore the books entirely, Queen of the Damned is an excellent movie. It also happens to have one of the greatest movie soundtracks of all time.

You cannot compare movies and books and make a critical analysis.

When you're reading movie reviews and the reviews basically break down into two camps: those who hate it because they read the book and those who liked it (and who didn't read the book), it's generally a good movie. The people giving the negative reviews are unable to get over their personal bias.

Those who didn't read the book have no such bias. And as such, they are giving a more accurate review.

One final point. When was the last time you read a professional review that stated, "The movie just wasn't as good as the book!" Never. Professional critics know how to overcome personal bias and give an unbiased review.

When you’re judging a movie, judge it on the content it contains. Don't judge it by lack of content from another medium.

"The book was better than the movie" has always been one of my biggest peeves, I've journaled about it before... especially since people can't seem to stop saying it in regards to this movie. Around here anyway.

I'm just really happy to have a new storyline of vampire fiction out there... even as 'light' as it is. Not everyone's story has to include the raunch of a sailor's community bathroom. Sometimes, sometimes we can appreciate things in their simplicity.

It's not that I hated Twilight I just never really got into. I never read any of the books, I did see the movie though. It wasn't half bad.

Now Queen of the Damed, I can say not a bad thing about that movie and yes the sound track is a must have for your collection.

Comparing movies to books and expecting the same results is like doing a book report for school and just watching the movie instead of actually reading the book in my opinion.
