i think it lies on the perspective of what people see as vampires. Whether from the movies ideas or the writers novels, each perseption is different.

I liked the allure of the vampire and its undying aspect. but latter when hollywood romatacied the aspect of vapires that become a good trait to say the least.

vampire myths intrigued me and the aspect of something that people feared in the old days and embraced them now.Socialogy aspect more for me.

Hmmm...pretty much what I said in an earlier thread regarding vampires and mythology:

The attraction to vampires is like the attraction of some movie or rock stars in a way: They are usually good-looking, healthy/strong, have monetary means, a dark undercurrent of sexuality (ie 'bad boy/bad girl') and are just cool.

Immortality, sensuality and coolness are by-words for vampires - LOL! Even in Gothic novels of the 19th century, the vampire was alluring, even though he/she was suppose to be repellant. Today's pop culture has a lot to do with it too, of course.

I see it as a sex factor. I can't tell you how erotic it is to think of someone like Lestat taking control over me. Wanting me above all others. It's romantic, it's love in a different perspective, its about having this god like creature enamored with you, and you are a worthless bag of flesh.

It is also very alluring to be the vampire. To have the control. To have the lust for humans.

I myself have a blood fetish. It is the source of all. Without it, nothing would survive with the exception of plants (Chlorophyll being their blood). It really is the perspective of the viewer however.

I don't think the sensuality could beat real life, that's why vamps want humans. And the coldness of an iceberg d**k good as an alternative, but not full time.

Coolness as in popular? Trendy? Pop culture debonair and suave? Nope. You think some vampire on the hunt only turns the beautiful? There's the oops factor. Probably more sloppy vampires than the elite.

And I think vampires might be like some humans who grow into a person w/o the slightest resemblance to their youthful/human selves. Maybe they're caught in a flashpoint of their existence where they had real bad self-esteem and the agony of psoraisis. The skin condition might disappear, but like some people who get their noses fixed, they'd always be haunted by a phantom malady and need constant reassurance.

So that leaves immortality, and to that I say yesssss.

Have you considered the fact that the individual who is vampire could very well have no choice in the matter? Some of us are born vampire...We have no control over birth rite.

That is unless you are discussing the roleplayers and or lifestylers who choose to live the life because of those three common traits...What ever floats their boat.

Well, there are those with escapist personalities that have opted to pursue a life of fantasy. The traits, lore, "cool factors" are all fragments of the person -- like a Frankenstein personality; all parts of different people.

A big push of the vampiric community or socity is with the release of Twilight. yet this culture has remained strong for several years. when new vampiric movies seem to coe to the public we see more come to these sites.

n inspiring thought is the belief in such romance within the silver screen. idols of the past have now merged to the vampires being the hero of any story.

The motivation I would have in becoming a vampire would be immortality. Not because I am afraid of death, not because I would want to live forever, but because of curiousity, and potential.

I want to know what happens. I want to see where humanity will go, what we will do, what advances we will make. I want to see if there is an end to this story. And if there isn't an end, I want to see how this will all continue.

Also, humans have a quite a short life span, yet, despite that shorter life span, humans are capable of acomplishing, learning, and growing so much. I am curious as to what I could acomplish, and learn if I had a limitless amount of time.

These would be my motivations in becoming vampire.

Vespers~ I think that is one of the alures that people fasinate with the vampirc myth. Living forever would be an insight to see history as it is made. And some the fear of death, although not thought still weighs heavy on the backs of our minds.

Yet in some aspects a curse to watch the ones you love die so often would play on the mind. I would think.

Vampires are largely associated with freedom; either feral disregard for norms, or the freedom arising from wealth.

The glamour of being a Vampire would not exist without nightlife. Sure blood is nice and tasty; but without whale oil, and later electricity, being a vampire would have largely been pretty boring; either you were wealthy enough to afford light or you ran arround under the moon.

Running under the moon sounds fun a couple nights a year, but you can not cultivate intellectual or social persuits if you were a peasant and unable to afford tallow.

Either way, I think it is a deep seated desire for freedom of societal constraint.

CadreWolf-

Yes, I agree that living beyond the life span of everyone we love in life would be a major con on the list of becoming a vampire, which actually, was something I had started to add to my original post on this thread. I left it out, however, because I felt it was proably a basic given for most people. You see, it's that aspect of immortality that would deter me from ever becoming such; speaking of course, that such fantastical possibilities as immortality existed.

Now, if we could offer immortality to those we would want to have with us, that could certainly change the equation. :)

There are many things that would make me want to be a vampire like the sensuality and freedom, but i would have to say that immortality is not one of them. While having a longer life while staying young and enegetic sounds nice, living forever does not. I think that life needs an end because when i think of watching everyone you meet die over and over again it sounds lonley.

I am completely with Vespers on this. Immortality and the ability to watch and learn would be more than I could ever hope for. Match that with the time allowed for me to try new, and many different things. Being able to master not just one or two things in a life, but be allowed several lifespans?

What a gift that would be.

Considering that the idea of loved ones joining us was brought up, I don't know that I would. From what I've seen of people in general, most would not be up to the emotional let downs of constantly having new friends, new people around you- and truly not being able to "shine" even when you have the ability to do so. To bring someone with you, and then have it fall apart- potentially again and again- not such a great thought. Knowing that you will constantly meet new people- that seems far easier to deal with.

UndoneByBeauty asks:

I reply:
Since someone cannot become what I consider a real vampire, I will discuss what would motivate me to become a vampire were fictional real. Quite frankly, it would be knowledge. As someone else mentioned, I would want to be immortal so I could see what happens in the future. If I thought I could get away with it, I would stay in school for the rest of my life. I like to learn so being able to constantly learn just really entices me. If I could be one of those fictional vampires who seems to suddenly acquire wealth and great beauty, I would travel the world to learn about other cultures. I would definitely be interested in becoming a teacher because as I was learning, I could share that knowledge with others.

In one of my favorite books of vampire fiction, written by Nancy C Collins, as the vampires age they begin to experience ennui (boredom) which causes some of them to go somewhere and die. The first time I read it, I just couldn't believe anyone would ever get bored with learning! Frankly, I still can't!

Sensuality, as is being addressed in the thread, is not necessarily about sex. I am referring to the senses, how things are perceived. Sure, sex is part of perception, and while it could be part of it, it ultimately is only just an aspect of what I was getting at here.

Romance and the sensations involved in the feelings of romance (love, lust, a caress on the skin, sex) are only part of the definition of sensuality.

I wouldn't know if a vampire can actually have sex, being that I don't know any personally. And if they could, I wouldn't know if it was even a worth while experience.

For me, the allure comes from the power. Not necessarily the physical power but that undercurrent of mental abilities that puts vampires that one step ahead of humans. They oozel confidence and control.

The wealth would come hand in hand with the immortality obviously - you'd have to be alive for an eternity to accumulate that kind of wealth. Although I do LOVE the idea of being able to travel anywhere at anytime on my private jet and not have to worry about having enough time or money to proper sightseeing.

The other things that draws me in is the idea of bonded families (clans, covens, whatever you want to call them). I like the idea of belonging that strongly to a group of like minded souls.

If we are talking of story bound vampires, then I have several real answers.

I like the freedom attached to the vamp character and the allure, but that isn't why I would want to be one.

I love the immortality, as I am an avidly curious individual. Unfortunately, you cannot live your life backwards. I am facinated by the past. The future doesn't seem like a very friendly place, but I would live it an gladly just to see everything there is to see.

I am draw to vampires for other reasons that I don't like to talk about. One of the few I tell people is my natural aversion to sunlight. I cannot be out in it for long without side effects. My skin used to burn and it made me weak or dizzy, but as I get older the effects are far more pronounced. Now, I don't get weak...I nearly pass out. I don't get red in hours, I get burnt in minutes. It blinds my eyes, styfles my breathing, and weakens me to the point of utter uselessness very swiftly.

People call me a vampire to make fun of me. They think I believe I am one and that is why the sunlight affects me, that it is subconsious. I don't mind sunlight. It doesn't like me often.

Cloudy days not included. I love cloudy days...no direct sunlight. Imagine that...lol.

certainly the immortality element and the power...
the power ofcoarse springs from the immortality as when time passes, one gains knowledge and therefore power. as one acquires wealth, there is more power. as one learns secrets (and how many secrets could one learn over multiple lifetimes) one again acquires power. the process is self feeding, and i can think of few things i would enjoy more in fact.

except the sensuality factor. no...the sensuality need not be sex ,but rather the enjoyment of sensation....going back to the immortality factor, this would give you time to slow down...to smell the roses and just enjoy the world...and others...with your full senses. no rushing thru anything....

and as for the sex ....slow...sensual....focusing on each taste, each touch, each movement, each shiver....
many possibilities there
~Wolf~

My motivation is cosmic energy in zero space and intaking that my awakening that I am truely a vampyre... and I do dire this energy from many past lives and I really crave for this energy. This energy is mixture of every energy, taking this energy I do not need emotions coz this energy already fills me with the emotions and the kinship is very dangerous for self if I get work on this keenly withthe help of exercises it will be exploded enough to make me able to touch any kin distantly. it fills me with the load of energy and conscious very dynamic ly. To adjust that load I really have to merge myself into space that time... or it shocks me trying even to level of raising my hairs. But I am not accustomed to this energy thus I intake this oftenly or it consumes my daily light side earning efficiency by its charm.

Very first time when I took this energy, this locked me in subconscious for three days and i was shocked that how to come out of this and these three days damaged my vision in my employers mind as I am ejected from work and do not want to work and do work very slowly and resulted this me to change the company.

If one is meditator and little astral, I can tell them what is the method... Its total work of conscious and subconscious. Its very dangerous to balance... you must not intake for much time you have to stop consuming energy within few seconds and have to merge into space or the long intake will consume you and lead you to awakening to one demon type kin and locked spatially.
