Now i don't know if this is just me, or if anyone else has noticed it, but why is it that hollywood likes to portray vampires as having the capability to transmutate from a human figure into a bat??? Aren't vampires supposed to be able to transform into other human being figures??

um...uuumm... ive never thought..

Hollywood is just a load of bullshit, we cant become bats...its just stupid shit they make up for action and adventure...

Yeah, its fake and has to look like the old day Vampyres. The ones from books, so it not real. No on can transform into another person or a bat or anything unless it is a mental disorder. Then they THINK they can. BUt yes, they just do it to sell. Money clouds truth. Everyone knows this.

transforming has always been linked to thevampiric myth,.. becoming vapour mists , or beasts like dogs,wolves and bats have a place in the mystical. Reality?well that bites.heh

Why would Hollywood want to get the facts straight? It would not in anyway help sell! While fact is often stranger than fiction, stereo types sell! ;-)

Because it's cool and fun- that is why. I go see a vampire movie because I know it is going to be fantastical. If it was a bunch of humans feeding off each other's life forces and blood in a very human way without any magic- I wouldn't like it- it would be more like a documentary that was kind of interesting. (not saying you human vamps are not interesting, but that's not what I go to see on the big screen)

The movies are the movies- and if they didn't have pizazz, I wouldn't want to watch them. It's because of the movies that many people want to be vampires.

When you go see a vampire movie- you should go exepcting to get a SHOW, the premiss is not about humans living the vampiric lifestyle- it is about an adventure into your imagination, fiction rocks- have fun with what it is, and nothing more.

When I watch a vampire movie, I expect that it is going to be supernatural- just like watching a Marvel or DC comic movie. I like it because I live in this world- I want the movies to take me to another.

If you want REAL, just watch the A&E documentaries.

In case you havnt noticed hollywood doesnt know a damn thing about anything...besides the actors/actresses who chill around there.

hollywood hasnt got a clue about the truth of vampires...they cant even make a fantastic book into a movie! i mean they want the whole world to think of vampires as something freaky that is completely different to humans because they cant deal with the fact that both species can live together and we can fly under the radar of humans

What a boring world it would be without fiction.

Does this mean you all hate vampire movies in general- None of you are fans of Bram Stoker, Anne Rice, Laurell K. Hamilton, White Wolf Publishing... none of this is the slightest bit interesting? It is after all- all fiction.

What's wrong with having fun? What's wrong with screenwriters telling a kick-ass story and making a ton of money off it? Nothing- good for them!

As has been stated previously, Hollywood vampire movies are purely for entertainment, not education. Although shape-shifting myths are prevalent in the mythos of several cultures, Bram Stoker made specific mention of the types of form "his" vampire was capable of attaining. Many know the wild success of "Dracula" and how that novel became the benchmark of vampire works that followed.

After so long, people have just come to expect movie vampires to possess certain characteristics. Depending on how well done the special effects are, determines whether or not the audience will accept or reject the believability of what is conveyed on film. The more outstanding the effect, the more likely the characteristic(s) will continue to be accepted as "fact", in regards to vampires (movie or real), as time goes on.

Of course, Hollywood movies are purely for entertainment purposes, and should always be viewed in that manner.

Hollywood likes to make 'artist' metaphorical connections to the myths that they don't understand...

Do some of you really want vampire movies to change from here out- only portraying what you consider to be the true vampire, never again having anymore rockin' superbeings flying through the sky, kicking each other's asses and catapulting humans 50 feet at 100 miles per hour with a single punch, floating in the sky, and transforming into anything they damn well please??? Because it's not true to your lifestyle?

Screw that! It's the MOVIES! It is was it is because it is a MOVIE. Do we have to be so politically correct and factual in this world now that we can't have our old-fashioned horror flicks the way we grew up and have loved for decades and decades? If that's the case- kill me now, and no after-life PLEASE~ I wouldn't want to be a part of a lame, vanilla planet like that.

Give me the magic, give me the fiction, blow me away, and get my wheels turning so I can have some interesting dreams- if I can't have it- I am in PRISON.

This is from the ancient link of vampire bats... however, I think a lotof people believe that films are "true" and that is what they "are."

By the way, I support all the fiction probably because I am a writer and I love a good story. I totally know it's all fake- but that's what I love so much about it.

But what is real anyway? If you could step inside my head you'd probably see the world from one wild perspective- I see things most people don't see. I do see fairies flying, I do hear voices, and I hear soundtracks playing in the real world--- I do it on purpose. I live in my imagination because this world bores me much of the time. I like my reality better.

I am not a whack job, I am not 'seeing things', just using my imagination. It's not Hollywood that is responsible for this. It's a writer that is writing IMAGES IN WORDS, Creating New Worlds With Each Thought. Just because it simply seemed like a cool thought. Don't read anymore into it than there is.

The movies 'interpretation' of vampires is FICTION: an imaginative creation or a pretense that does not represent actuality but has been invented.

I see many posts about 'just because they want to make money'- well, who creates a movie because they want to lose money? Why is it so wrong to get paid for a job well-done? I happily pad their pockets because they entertain me.

I have a separate interest in humans that are living a vampiric lifestyle, but again- I sure wish they had a different name for it~ because I don't like that it interferes with my fiction and folklore. They should have a different name/label- because they are not the same. And what we've grown to know as Vampires in this world are a fictional re-animated CORPSES. We aren't wrong for that. The vampires we know are fictional and we never claim them to be real, or the TRUE vampire- what the hell is 'true fiction'? An oxy-moron, folks.

I am not against or putting down the human vamps- I am just sticking up for and trying to keep my poetic mind fruit alive.

Easy answer, it's hollywood. When the truth isn't exciting enough, the create a new "truth". Their goal is to sell the film. Gimmicks work wonders for that.

Hollywood's perception is withotu a doubt wrong, they portray it like that well.. as i think of it, jus tto make the movie more interesting.

Hollywood, shows the public, nothing more or less than what we call a stereo-type. They have no real knowledge of what the real thing is. We creatures of the darkness, now days are not tooken seriously anymore, therefore we now hold the advatage over them...!

hollywood's interpretation of every thing go's by one thing how much money will we make and how can we do better then the last person who made the same movie thery can care very little about facts so why not add more things even if it just don't fit as long as it looks cool and will get u to spend money

well, i have nothing against hollywood's special effects.. i enjoy them myself, they are just a bunch of greedy bastards that prey off of others just so their pockets are full... i just don't enjoy how they have our potrayed in some of the movies, blade is one good example of a movie i enjoy, it doesn't really attack our kind, it more or less shows what kind our kind deals with, "hunters" and things like that, even though it is still shown through the eyes of a human.. the only thing bad about that trilogy is that they pit our own kind against us... but i enjoy the effects and everything else.. blade could also be used as an example of how they use our race to fill our pockets at the same time.... ok, i guess more or less i'm just trying to say that i don't like the fact that they are using us for there pockets to be full

why indeed would hollywood want to get it right? ha!

and for anyone interested - 'NIGHTWATCH' is coming... it's a russian vampire film, coming to theaters! with subtitles and everything. fuck hollywood, here comes russia. i got some cool info on this film in my journals. or go to imdb.com and search for it.

Heh, Heaven knows that Hollywood hasn't made boo boos when talking on how things are. In twister they messed up almost everything about tornadoes.. like the hollywood sign... a tornadoe could not go up the hill.. it is an impossibilty.... best thing to do is just state our opinion and let them say what they want and if others wish to believe it even after they hear your opinion then that is their choice.

Ok- so Hollywood makes a film with consenting blood donation and people feeding off energy and getting a rush- living normal lives. The people will have no special powers only the ocassional empathy found in some. They'd prefer sleeping in the day and would dislike the light (some)- What kind of movie is that? That's a movie about regular people that live different lives than the so-called norm. And this would make everyone happy? I mean- no more supernatural action films- because they are just wrong.

Are none of you fans of vampire movies? That's what I want to know. Why do so many like to buy fangs? They are not 'normal' teeth, exceedingly large pointy canines- its moreso part of the fiction, yet they want them.

Is there no one here that will agree they are fascinated with the fiction and they like to incorporate some of that into their human vampire life? Some don't- but I know some do.

I am what I like to call a friend to quite a few here on Vampire Rave that live a vampiric lifestyle- none of them have posted here in this thread yet. They know there is a difference between their lives and the movies, and I think many of them still are engaged by the fiction simply because it is entertaining. They do not confuse fact with fiction- but there is NOTHING wrong with enjoying fiction.

I wouldn't mind seeing a drama or love story between people living this kind of life and giving a view to the world on how they live and love. But I would never want to lose my good old horror flicks. I really don't think any of you do either.

Look at The Vampire Database and browse the books and movies- the ratings show most of the members here love the books and movies. Without this fiction, I doubt we'd have this website. Without this fiction, I doubt we'd have 'Goth' in its fullness today- Gothic times included gothic folklore, without the folklore, we wouldn't be remembering the times as we do today- or reinventing the image for our new age. The gothic times are recalled as they are much because of tales. And many of you in this thread are putting down the tales? Say it ain't so :(

Is it really so wrong to find the supernatural intriguing? And do none of you believe in the supernatural? What about shapeshifting and mind control? If this is unreal for you- I wonder what kind of vampiric existence you are leading...

In history there have been many shape-changing beliefs. Most of these nowadays are call were-this, or were-that, pretty much thanks to the were-wolf idealology. However, as far as vampires go, I would say it would depend on how long they lived, how much they studied and what thier true abilities are. Since most people don't know what thier OWN abilities are most of the time, they fantasise about what they would like to become.
This is the crux that entered hollywood mentality. They get only a small amount of information, write a huge script about what they should be doing and then shoot it on film. For them, yes, it's for money. For the general populace, it's entertainment and fear. For the rest of us, it's simply a pain in the you know what.

It is because Hollywood's interpretation is based primarily on Dracula, who could transfrom into a bat among other creatures.
