I was wondering, as you do: "Why am I here?"
So.. "Why are you here??"
I wonder that myself, and I usually answer like the old joke...
I've been cussed out, slandered, beaten up, bamboozled, lied to and taken for granted, and the only reason I keep coming back is.......
to see what the heck is gonna happen next.
Why I came here? Curiosity.
Why I stayed? The love of my life.
I agree with the dabbler; I came because I was curious
I stayed because I love my new friends and family:)
Why I came here. That is a tough question. For starter I am a life member, so, I will not go away, even after my death. LOL. WHAT!!!! mean, the system will not erase my name. I came into VR, because I love the culture and the unknown about vampires and everyone can express themselves without having a psychiatry close by. LOL
friends introduced me to one of the other Dark Network Sites joined VR cause of the acceptance I found friends and family
the friends that introduced me well they left and I stayed
I am here to help others with finding themselves and to educate
because i feel wanted, and I want to meet more like minded people
for me i came here because i am a seeker of knowledge so it was only natural for me to stay here as there is so much for me to learn here. as to why i stayed i made friends along the way that have made a big influence in my life and i must say they are good friends. so i guess in ways i am glad that i came to vr.
I came here out of curiosity and found it a very creative place with a lot of interesting people mostly much younger than I am. I have learned a lot from many people here and even from some I didn't agree with. It didn't mean I didn't learn something or a different outlook to make me rethink something. I learned about some things I had never heard of prior and gave me topics to write about. I have heard all sorts of them and some whoppers that gave me a good laugh, but all in all this place has a lot of great people...this is why I am still here.
I came here originally out of curiosity to see if they were other people like me out there and they are here on VR i feel accepted for who i am and i have found many new friends that i condider my family. I also come seeking knowledge to learn more.
curiosity drew me in and the super awesomeness of the site, made me stay.
It was the right place at the right time. The friends keep me here now.
My niece turned me on to this site
and I got hooked like right away.
I am here to learn, and make new friends who are like myself. It helps pass the time.
I am here because my mother and father had sex as did their parents, etc. , etc., and I was born.
What I hope to accomplish in this short life I have? I am not quite sure, but I plan on having a lot of fun doing it.
I did not mention Goth, Goth appeals to me, and in a way I met my Goth princess, though to most she appears prep.
I came here to find and meet people with the same interest ,and I stay now because Im hooked and I love the new people that I have met here so far. *winks*
I'd better rephrase that question. or rather explain it..
..it was literal, "why are you here?"
Not VR, specifically. Here, as in the Now of this Moment.
"Why are you here?"
i am here coz of a transformation and a change n trying to figure it out here it brings me happiness...
I am here to be with others of my kind. I found family in my Coven.
Indeed, simple question, complicated answer to anyone who really wants to try at it.
You're not going to figure out via brainstorming why you exist.
What matters is that you do, and the only reason why you do is because you were born.
maybe a more insightful question would be
"Since you are alive, what will you do with your life?"
because that's what matters.
Someone may have written down a thousand years ago that you were supposed to slay the jabberwalkie (sp, i know, dont care) but it's not a requirement.
Your life is your own, so do with it what you see fit.
Because I am. No reason not to be. Some things are good, some things are bad. The good things outweigh the bad things. So, I stay. I don't have a higher purpose (that I know of), I don't have any overwhelming needs to do anything special, I just am. Isn't that enough?
This site is like crack, once you get a hit, you in it for life, im here because its an addiction, i found it almost 5 years ago, cant remember how i stumbled across it but i have stayed and met some wicked people.
.. to those who read the question and realized I was not talking simply VR, as I clarified, thank you.
I don’t know why I am here other than my parents wanted to have a child and I guess I am here to evolve!
As I see it, the question hinges on the definition of "here," which definition the poster has not provided while apparently expecting answers far different from those received thus far.
If by "here," he does not mean VR, then does he mean "here"... existentially, geographically, spiritually, metaphysically, emotionally, vocationally, chronologically, etc.?
If the answers thus far received do not satisfy, then perhaps the question has been phrased in far too open-ended a fashion and needs a bit more clarification to help respondents provide answers more acceptable to the poster.

Spermatozoa met Egg..
I was raised by my mother.
after leaving "the nest"
I made choices, and through consequence, I ended up here, as in current status.
I fought my way here. It has been a very hard battle but so far I am winning. I love my life now and will continue to fight to keep it.
Here as in the Rave? Or here as in life in general?
Well as for the Rave, to meet like minded people, and have a good time.
Life in general, I have no idea.
Aw Bloodmother.. at the end of a bitchin day, that summed up .. ever so much. **Grins**
Upir.. to be specific.. where we are.. Now.
This place, wherever this is.. whether it be The Earth, one of a series of Planets third from a Small star, on the edge of a spiral Galaxy; or less than a mote of dust on the head of a pin.
I am here, on this site and on this world in general, to be. There is no reason other than that. I live to live. And I will die to die. Essentially, I live so that I can die. Simplicity at its finest.
i am here in the moment, where i go from this moment is yet to be seen
I am here on earth against my own will. It was not a choice I was given. Why am I in your thread?? Because your question interested me and I also need to level up.
thats pretty simple really my wife introduced me to VR.
Why am I still here well there are a few reasons
1. Addictive
2. So I dont loose levels because I am not on
3. I have a Coven to run
4. there is never anything good on TV
5. refer back to number 1
**Laughter**
Gotta give the lady ten outta ten, for that response.
That's an amusing question, since my accidental arrival on VR I have had more reason than most to Exit.
I have had hostile investigators other kin, government agents and all manor of cults from Square bashers to bikers grrring at my presence; reminds me of a film.
Foley: "I want your DOR."

Whats the alternative? facebook? ROFL.
I'm here, both in life and on VR to learn all that I can, grow As much as I can, and Master as much of my life as I can in the time that I have.

why i am here
VR: i found it more interesting than other sites i was on
Life: i am here to prove myself worthy and to help other people with the small problems in life that doesnt really matter.
Why i stay: because i love doing what i do and being myself no matter how other people object to it.
Sheeee - it, I'm tempted to do a copy and paste on Hategurls response.. word for word.
i love how the confusion could have been cleared up so many times over if everyone read the most recent post before they hit "reply"
Ancient Greek philosophy
Plato and Aristotle in The School of Athens fresco, by Raphael.
Platonism
Main article: Platonism
Plato was one of the earliest, most influential philosophers to date — mostly for realism about the existence of universals. In the Theory of Forms, universals do not physically exist, like objects, but exist as ghostly, heavenly forms. In The Republic, the Socrates character's dialogue describes the Form of the Good. The Idea of the Good is ekgonos (offspring) of the Good, the ideal, perfect nature of goodness, hence an absolute measure of justice.
In Platonism, the meaning of life is in attaining the highest form of knowledge, which is the Idea (Form) of the Good, from which all good and just things derive utility and value. Human beings are duty-bound to pursue the good, but no one can succeed in that pursuit without philosophical reasoning, which allows for true knowledge.
Aristotelianism
Main article: Aristotelian ethics
Aristotle, an apprentice of Plato, was another, early, most influential philosopher, who argued that ethical knowledge is not certain knowledge (like metaphysics and epistemology), but is general knowledge. Because it is not a theoretical discipline, a person had to study and practice in order to become 'good', thus if the person were to become virtuous, he could not simply study what virtue is, he had to be virtuous, via virtuous activities. To do this, Aristotle established what is virtuous:
Every skill and every inquiry, and similarly, every action and choice of action, is thought to have some good as its object. This is why the good has rightly been defined as the object of all endeavor [...]
Everything is done with a goal, and that goal is "good".
—Nicomachean Ethics 1.1
Yet, if action A is done towards achieving goal B, then goal B also would have a goal, goal C, and goal C also would have a goal, and so would continue this pattern, until something stopped its infinite regression. Aristotle's solution is the Highest Good, which is desirable for its own sake, it is its own goal. The Highest Good is not desirable for the sake of achieving some other good, and all other ‘goods’ desirable for its sake. This involves achieving eudaemonia, usually translated as "happiness", "well-being", "flourishing", and "excellence".
What is the highest good in all matters of action? To the name, there is almost complete agreement; for uneducated and educated alike call it happiness, and make happiness identical with the good life and successful living. They disagree, however, about the meaning of happiness.
—Nicomachean Ethics 1.4
Cynicism
In the Hellenistic period, the Cynic philosophers said that the purpose of life is living a life of Virtue that agrees with Nature. Happiness depends upon being self-sufficient and master of one's mental attitude; suffering is consequence of false judgments of value, which cause negative emotions and a concomitant vicious character.
The Cynical life rejects conventional desires for wealth, power, health, and fame, by being free of the possessions acquired in pursuing the conventional.[60][61] As reasoning creatures, people could achieve happiness via rigorous training, by living in a way natural to human beings. The world equally belongs to everyone, so suffering is caused by false judgments of what is valuable and what is worthless per the customs and conventions of society.
Cyrenaicism
Cyrenaicism, founded by Aristippus of Cyrene, was an early Socratic school that emphasised only one side of Socrates's teachings — that happiness is one of the ends of moral action and that pleasure is the supreme good; thus a hedonistic world view, wherein bodily gratification is more intense than mental pleasure. Cyrenaics prefer immediate gratification to the long-term gain of delayed gratification; denial is unpleasant unhappiness.[62][63]
Epicureanism
Main article: Epicureanism
Bust of Epicurus leaning against his disciple Metrodorus in the Louvre Museum.
To Epicurus, the greatest good is in seeking modest pleasures, to attain tranquility and freedom from fear (ataraxia) via knowledge, friendship, and virtuous, temperate living; bodily pain (aponia) is absent through one's knowledge of the workings of the world and of the limits of one's desires. Combined, freedom from pain and freedom from fear are happiness in its highest form. Epicurus' lauded enjoyment of simple pleasures is quasi-ascetic abstention from sex and the appetites:
When we say . . . that pleasure is the end and aim, we do not mean the pleasures of the prodigal or the pleasures of sensuality, as we are understood to do, by some, through ignorance, prejudice or wilful misrepresentation. By pleasure we mean the absence of pain in the body and of trouble in the soul. It is not by an unbroken succession of drinking bouts and of revelry, not by sexual lust, nor the enjoyment of fish, and other delicacies of a luxurious table, which produce a pleasant life; it is sober reasoning, searching out the grounds of every choice and avoidance, and banishing those beliefs through which the greatest tumults take possession of the soul.[64]
The Epicurean meaning of life rejects immortality and mysticism; there is a soul, but it is as mortal as the body. There is no afterlife, yet, one need not fear death, because "Death is nothing to us; for that which is dissolved, is without sensation, and that which lacks sensation is nothing to us."[65]
Stoicism
Stoicism teaches that living according to reason and virtue is to be in harmony with the universe's divine order, entailed by one's recognition of the universal logos (reason), an essential value of all people. The meaning of life is freedom from suffering through apatheia (Gr: απαθεια), that is, being objective, having "clear judgement", not indifference.
Stoicism's prime directives are virtue, reason, and natural law, abided to develop personal self-control and mental fortitude as means of overcoming destructive emotions. The Stoic does not seek to extinguish emotions, only to avoid emotional troubles, by developing clear judgement and inner calm through diligently practiced logic, reflection, and concentration.
The Stoic ethical foundation is that good lies in the state of the soul, itself, exemplified in wisdom and self-control, thus improving one's spiritual well-being: "Virtue consists in a will which is in agreement with Nature."[65] The principle applies to one's personal relations thus: "to be free from anger, envy, and jealousy".[65]
Of these I would be closer to Epicurean.
Though I do confess to Pyhonism as well.
The reason why I am here is that some1 took the option of abortion away from my mom when she discovered she was pregnant with me and Dec 1965 I was born a preemie
the reason still alive is that to me the greatest battle I have is to live life for I have no fear of DEATH but do with being ALIVE and suicide is not the answer when it becomes to much for me battling my fear of staying ALIVE
why am i here?
42
no...wait...thats the answer to the question of the meaning of life, the universe, and everything...
what was the question again?
how bout...because i was in a coma earlier this week and now im not, so i might as well enjoy.
~W~
the answer might be if we were not here then we will not be on the planet Earth but living on a different planet that may or may not be in our galaxy so if we are not here then where are we
My place, my life, my being is to help others however I can. I am the Smurf Queen of all Smurfy little problems...whatever they may be..:)
(it's a passive-aggressive thing..you'll just have to ask..:P)
I am here because I have a purpose in this life to fulfill and have obviously not yet achieved what I'm on this earth to accomplish.
as an aristotle follower, I found that most interesting Dabbler. ta la.
I have nothing else to do right now so why not spend time here on vr?
At first I was just curious I guess. I wanted to know more and explore things. I already had a thing for the unknown and what not...being on this site has just made it more fun. Interacting with like minded people and making new friends is just a few perks of this site.
That was supposed to say...
In one form or another...but Angelus meant our reason for being on Earth...not VR itself.
Dabs, i really did try to get through your post, but it was just too long for my hyperactivity.
And Angelus, there really is no answer anyone here can give you. nobody knows why they happened, only that they did. What more can be expected?
Oh. AlieNation, i'm still waiting for you to respond to your proposed challenge.
...not such a simple question, Angelus...
Montaigne says "...no reason can be established, except by another reason. We retreat into infinity..."
Pagan, that quote has hints of Aristotalism too it. Interesting quote.
Wow good question Angelus. To be honest I truly have no idea why yet but I guess for most it's a learning process and a journey into ones own self being to find that answer.
Cabrion.. I fear you miss the point: the question, as stated, was a simple one: I'm not seeking anymore than I have.. and, I'm grateful, for all I have recieved.
For example, both Pagan, Dabbler and LordRazor have a perspective I can see and relate to, but no matter how many times one asks a question, there is alway's an answer.
just..
not the answer. an answer.
To answer such a question, as "Why are you here?", it is best to be Here first.
Shrug. i'm crazy.
even when i am here, i'm not really here.
Cabrion .. **laughs** you're not speaking for just you when you utter some things, y'know??
Heck.. we all have times of dissanance [two 's'??]
For me, that's part of the duality of our thoughts.
Well.. our multilayered thoughts...
Three's and Four's mate, Aces and Longfellows too.
Hmmm.
To every question there's an infinite number of answers, just not all of them are relevant to the inquirer.
Some answers that are given will be right in the future, or have been in the past.
Do you think our philosophy should be like that? Always changing which path is the deepest?
.. a simple question: that some treat lightly, whilst other treat as is.. such is the nature of thought itself.
For me life is just a way to gain my immortality.
Immortality is not granted. It has to be obtained and life is the arena where you obtain it... or not.
For me life is just a way to gain my immortality.
Immortality is not granted. It has to be obtained and life is the arena where you obtain it... or not.
Sorry for the two posts but I can`t delete my own posts.
I came here 5 years ago to better understand myself and Vampires.
I have stayed so long, because of the really cool people that I have met on here, talked to every so often, and post with to have fun.
well i glucked up on finding VR i was looking for a place to call home with people like me i stayed because i like it and the family thing i really havnt got yet but i guess i will soon
DarkWolf {sic} called it right.. "but Angelus meant our reason for being on Earth...not VR itself."
Though, I guess VR is part of, 'it all'.
Darn.. [damn shorterm memory] Dark Wolfman, to give credit, where it's due.. merci beaucoup.
{{HA! It ryhmes!}}
I am alive because my mother gave birth to me after aborting another child and my mother says " God sent me another one so I decided I might as well heed the call"
I am on VR cuz I stumbled in and stayed!
I came because I was curious I stayed because I love my new friends, brothers n sisters
aw shoot, another who glances at the question, then zips t' end.. Fiery One. ta.
one is on this earth because of a gleam in an irishmans eyes ..vr at first friends and now friends family and a mind that thirsts for knowledge in several areas fact and fiction alike
Why I came? My friend Niki and I were talking about what we were up to one night on yahoo and she invited me to join. I'm loving it ^^
To help understand my love of the darkness we all share…. Stayed to sort out those who wish to crush peoples darkness.
I came here, because i have an open mind to all that is mythical, paranormal, fiction, truth etc. etc.
I stayed because, i am still looking for something that will take me by surprise.
I am here because I have had a fascination with the supernatural in general and vampires in particular from a very early age. However, I was a latecomer to the computer age (being an art graduate, instead of taking computer classes back in the 80's) so I never even laid a finger on a keyboard (for fun) until I was in my 30's. Once I was more comfortable with it, I began looking around. Unfortunately, I found places like Vampirefreaks, etc., which were less a site about vampires and more about being a meat market. This site was mentioned to me by a friend online, and at first sight I was entranced. It not only was an avid networking site for people to meet, but also was a growing resource of books, movies, and other vampire related topics. So not only do I have a great many true friends that i met here, but I am expanding my knowledge of vampire related things, not to mention adding to it myself.
Cinammon called it right I see, for my simple question, there is a multitude of answers..
..and, some of them are more intrigueing than the original question, "Why are we here?" which I'd reassert, had originally been the Great Question, to which Douglas would have said, "42", which is why I'm finding these responses quite so intrigueing..
[Damn, is there an 'e' there, or not?]
Could we be but a foot note, to a galactic equation?
An eddy in an cosmic spiral?
A mote in a celestial dust cloud?
Even without divine aspirations, I find myself sufficiently awestruck at the universe as we know it. Vast, Reaching, and able to stir in humankind, equally vast speculations. So my question always tapers from "Why am I here." ,"To What will I do now, that I am here."
a stream of concsiousness that eddies, with the vagueries of this cosmos?
Are we the sum total of our thoughts?
If so then some are far under par.
To many want to be privy to the future, or they dwell in the past, what does this speak of their present?
I came here to get a change of life.I can't stand being on something that doesn't fit me.
and yet ...42 is just the rt answer lol ....to life ... everything..
dont forget your towel
I believe we are here to learn, to prepare for what's next, and to leave our own small mark on those that care about us (and vice versa).
Not to become perfect, just to learn (although it would seem some of us learn faster than others).
As far as what comes after this planet, I have my own beliefs on that (as I am sure you all do as well) but that would open an entirely new topic.
Suffice to say, I am here because this is where I ended up, and, while mistakes were made, I am happy with the current clearing in my life's path.
Touchjewlz, you gotta grin outta me there..
..my towel is in readiness.
Dabs, as ever you got summat there.. yesterday, tomorrow.. ? Today.. question is, where do you want to love.. ??
Because my Lil Sis said I'd enjoy it better here than any other site and as usual she was right haha.
Nay sayers-Well you have to love and laugh;
It seems that Douglas Adams was right after all: the answer to Life, the Universe and everything, is 42.
Cambridge astronomers have found that 42 is the value of an essential scientific constant - one which determines the age of the universe.
In his novel The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy (1979) Mr Adams describes how an alien race programs a computer called Deep Thought to provide the ultimate answer to "Life, the Universe and Everything". After seven and a half million years' calculation, back came the answer - 42.
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/yes-the-answer-to-the-universe-really-is-42-1351201.html
Remember, real life is stranger than fiction.
one could also say we are here because the speed of atom vibrating is what make the images we see everyday...
