Greetings everybody...
I just write coupple of sentences here, if somebody wants to know more, please write your answers to this message, or contact me, by other means as necessary...
So my sentences are the backbone of my research on this subject, that the origin of vampirism is not a bacteria, nor virus, as many thinks, but a prion. a Protein chain, 'intelligent' enough to evolve through time. Prions are disease, that can alter your DNA at a cellular level, and change the cell, without that body would fight against the changes. It is clever enough to fool our system, and it is old enough to create possible 'symptomses' of 'vampirism' as we know it.
There is a another thing our body, I am just talking in most general way, whch prions could in general have effect to. These are the hormones, and 'DNA coding' that tells cell not to reproduct anymore, and to die, theoreticly, if this works all the way, you never have to grow old.
There are many diseases to cause symptomses that you can see as outsider from victim, paleskin, and that they are overly sensitive to sunlight, their rapid hairgrow, canines and teeth looks like fangs because of withdrawn gums... Indeed.
In this thread, there are many holes, but then again, I just wrote this quite fast, to know your opinions, do not come knocking my door furiously if something does not match to your thoughts, just ask.
Well then, we ask, where did this came from? It couldn`t just borned from nowhere right? Well ofcourse not. I tell you the origin. Origin can be horrible, but then again many things that matters are. Mostly Prion based diseases starts by cannibalism, flesh, blood, everything together. Mix and max, cannibalism causes prion diseases. I can give you example of one not so great prion, you might probably know it better as BSE, nor mad-cows-disease.
There is nothing similar with this prions, they art not modified from each others, as simpler virus and bacterias does. Prions evolve through time, not to kill the host, but to leech one so to speak...
What could I say, that I haven`t said already? Oh so many, things, tens, hundred of pages, yet to be said on this matter, I just wanna know how you see this matter, and if you want to read more about this.
After all, I am this eternal scientis guy, here to ruin all our fun... Wink
Part II:
Next I would like to give you a example about the sickness called 'Kuru', it was firstly noticed in early 1900`s, but then it took quite long, until 1950`s to Anthropologists, and Australian goverment made it official. Kuru as also known as 'laughing sickness' (laugh burst happens at stage two of the sickness), was a plague inside the tribe(Forè Tribe, in Papua new Guinea), that was later declared to be caused by the tribal rituals, of a particular group, that ate other people. Cannibalism was made official reason to the disease...
So there you have your precedent, if it is enough for you...
Like Kuru, BSE also belongs to TSE diseases, (transmissible spongiform encephalopathy), that is caused by the prions. So as the diseases are medicaly relative to each other, I can say that BSE is falling to the same group than Kuru before, that can have been its origins in cannibalism, in the end...
Little bit about prions, they were firstly officially hypothesized by the man named Stanley B. Prusiner of UCSF, who was awarded because of the 'invention', the year was 1997. Prion comes from the words "proteinaceous infectious particle".
Not all Prions are dangerous, or hostile, in the end. Many researchers believe that they can give us evolutionary help, when known better, yet I believe nature already found its way. Vampirism, the living proof that many of us are... Since the year 1965, there have been studies with extraoridnary heritages in cellular level, it was announced by the year 1994 that these 'things' that caused these changes, are actually what we call prions. And actually it was declared that those cells infected with certain type of prion, are actually far better, than their prion free siblings...
I call it a day again... If you find something to 'complain' , please let me know, so I can answer your questions, once more...
It was my bad, because I wrote that first one in haste, and then there are many holes, that may disturbs others, but here is my first 'patch' to make it better... Still, many, many pages uncleared, I cannot wait...
I was just wondering what your thoughts are on this subject and if you had any other information to add to this thread please, feel free!
Wholly Yours,
Olwen.
You are the master of very long posts, lol.
It is all very interesting and offers an nice explanation, IF you wholly believe in
"vampires"/"vampirism" that is in the 1st place. Many are still on the fence about it. Personally I have always considered it to be psychological, that is not to say that it is a bad thing, after all, what is more powerful than the human mind. It is a lot of info to digest and hard to cover every point you made without going on and on, so I will leave it at that.
EDIT
or rather "symptoms" or vampirism as you said, some people flat out deny those as anything out of the ordinary
Yes, the MASTER! hehehe. I thank you for your response. I think that people can either believe they are vampires or ARE vampires. Its all in the wording.
Well yes, there is a difference between thinking you are something and being it. Though sometimes I am unsure id like to believe that reality is relative to an extent, but another part of me feels that feeling a certain way just doesn't make something so. Either way, you bring up good points, and if it isn't psychological, then your explanation comes next in my mind. But the way you explain it, it makes vampirism so much more mundane and non supernatural, which, I like....vampire like conditions don't have to be supernatural.. and I will go as far as to say are not supernatural if they truly are something worth classifying as a genuine condition.
I completely agree with you. So many people say that vampires are evil and creatures of the night. but most of the Vampires I know are just normal people with normal jobs but who feel they need blood to be "alive".
It can also be said that people like having vampires labeled as evil and creatures of the night as that is how they wish themselves to be personified. They want to be identified with the dark and abnormal even though they are simply normal people going through a normal part of life as they try to discover and evolve as a person and form who they truly are.
Interesting thesis, but your attempt to sound prophetical really destroys it. I'm sorry to sound cruel, but proofreading serves a purpose, and your work definitely needs to be proofread. Now, on a much lighter note, this was an intriguing article to read, and I shall be passing it on to my friends so that they too can read it.
If I have understood what I read, then you are saying that vampirism is caused by in effect DNA Coding from birth. Whether the need is physical or psychological, it is part of an evolutionary pattern developing in the changing DNA of humans. This would indeed remove any supernatural aspect to the condition but as we are just starting to tap into the potential discoveries of DNA sequencing I will watch for more evidence. It is however a possible theory and deserves discussion.
wow it sounds like a science paper but its more interesting then one. And even if you were right about the piron youll get a few to believe but everybody else wont listen becasue there scared hollywood would lose money and so on
I don't think his goal is to convince the world or Hollywood, but to put a theory out there.
this discussion about genetic anomalies???
Or Belief in vampires like those shown in movies or the possiblities that Hollywood is right??
I am confused, there are a number of genetic diseases that seem to be like that of vampirism XP being one of many....
What is a piron?? exactly many viruses attach themselves to our DNA and RNA but what does that have to do with evolution??? Better yet our evolution????
A really interesting idea you have there! A disease that has evolved with humanity... would that mean that if a parent has it, it would be passed on to the child????
Because that is the only way that I can see this "virus" having enough time to evolve and become intelligent. If "it" dies every time the host dies, then if can never reach intelligence. Plus then where is the continuity???
All in all, reading this post has made me think.
Most people call vamps evil for the simple reason that they are different. Witches are evil. Gays are evil. Medical reason to be vampire might have some back off but KKK still think all blacks are evil. havein the reason to be different doesn't diffuse the you arn not one of us fear that most humans have breed into them. Look at all the aliens are evil movies and theories.
.....Where does that even factor into anything in this thread? did you read it? this has nothing to do with people's interpretations of good and evil. It is a discussion of scientific evidence and genetics, and of theory.....
thats a better way to look at vampirism then a virus or a mental disorder.

Interesting theory.... one question though...
What is your definition of "a couple sentences?"
Obviously much, much different than mine...
There is little medical evience that a virus or bactiria causes vampirism. It would be more precise to say that Vampires are cause via genetic anomolies which are passed down generation to generation changing from dominant to recesive with each generation or so.
As I have said before in similar posts its a question of breeding and adaptation.
Porphryia is a genetic disease that may help provide evidence to support the prion theory, as a prion could feasibly be passed on to offspring, which could in turn eventually become a complete genetic disorder
The prion idea is quite interesting, but you havn't accounted for a few things in that theory. It's possible that you are partially correct. Actually, it's very probable that you are partially correct. I just don't think you hit the nail on the head. Do more research, and I think you'll have yourself some good solid evidence!
~♥~
I think you are on the edge of another discovery. And I believe that yes it is possible that this can exist. Your prion theory intriges me. Like the electron that goes through the hole only if noone is watching...and if you know physics you know what theory I'm talking about. I think these tiny existing things that we have barely discovered are real. Looking at in a physical or medical perspective anyways.
Boy...theres ALOT I could say right now. I'm in the middle of my Anthropology 101 course...were currently studying primates...and the creation of vampires always comes to mind when we study this stuff.....so yeah...I mean...its not brought up in class...but I wonder where vampirism stems from in the body...so yeah, nice long topic post......as I said....I would comment on this....but It'd be way to long and knowing me I'd end up writing an essay instead of a comment. LOL. I will say this however, I think your close. Personally, I dont think it stems from Prion. Something close however. I'm still researching it. I just....something doesnt feel right despite the facts placed in the area.
SunZar
Porphyria and the facts about it, are so vastly misunderstood. And sadly do not fit anywhere near vampirism.

Hahaha and birra, I was thinking the very same.
this i think is another good postby someone who alwaysgets uthinking if u find out more feel freee to let me know
So if the theory of prions is correct then they would be transmitted from one generation to the next. If they attach to DNA and RNA and cause mutations, these mutations can be carried on to the next generation. Of course mutation of DNA is the basis for evolution. The mutations that worked for the species are carried on and the ones that didn't die off.
Mapping of the human genome has been completed recently and the implications are tremendous. What we can accomplish with this information is amazing and at the same time very scary. We may be able to someday create the perfect human through genetic manipulation. Of course, where's the fun in perfection? Long live mutation!
I do believe vampirism is real. I feel very passionate about that.~CapriAl
Vampirism is real in the way that you say... so that would state that vampire do exist... Most everything you said made sense, based on hard sought facts, whether scientificly found or independently studied... and I have studies the cellular make-up of how a vampires genes and blood cells are changed, or mutated to become replicas of the ingested ( or by other means, such as hereditary ) "disease".... and I do believe that it could have become smart enough to develop over time, becoming stronger...
prions are not a virus
they might be a mutation however
they do not even attach to Deoxyribonucleic Acid or RNA.
Prions are long protein chains that build up because people do not exercise, they do not eat right and then they inhale toxins.
These prions build up and they grow so long that they eventually puncture the cell walls. When this happens cancer may result because you are forcing the cell to make another one, and when cells make another cell out of a cell that is inflamed and corrupted, cancer happens, a ball park figure of somewhere around 9 percent of the time I think. If I remember reading.
I am not going to post the other ideas about what I know to be true about the causes of vampirism as all this would be dele...
I have to agree with Anti-
Offering a very in depth and scientific explanation for something that no one has been able to even prove the existence of is a bit like trying to figure out the physics behind how dragons fly.
this is an excellent well researched post and I agree on alot of it,I've been studying some myself on the effects cannabilism has in the animal kingdom(i.e. madcow disease) it's as good a theory as any other I've heard.
There are many theories, each as valid as the next, that offer an explaination of Vampirism....One being the extension of the late-life mortality plataeu, another including the extension of certain Chromosomes.......Yet, as I said, each as vaild as the next........Nicely presented though :D
Validity is a scientific term that can be pin pointed for accuracy if an experiment is run.
In theory anything is feasible, but that is ridiculous Nemisis19, a postulation is a postulation, but proof is all there is.
You can say that song and dance all you want, but it is one thing to know through experience and then the other to say maybe life is like that.
Mad cow disease is prion related yes. But it comes on so quick it may only be related, and not facsimile.
Genetic material is the reason a human has many characteristics or traits. You inherit one chromosome from each of your parents. This determines what hair or eye color you will have. It also can determine whether certain diseases are something you will have or not. Genes mutate over time. Something as common as having blues eyes was at one time unheard of among humans.
Viruses enter cells and cause a cell to behave differently than what the cell is suppose to do. A virus is useless without one of our cells. It is possible in theory that a virus could cause someone to exhibit signs of vampirism. It would just depend on what the virus caused the cell to do.
i believe that we evolved from the monkeys of the past
but our spirits have evolved right along with them as the great mother had intended
'Tis a very interesting theory indeed, my lord, and all other lords and ladies' opinions are most accurate and fascinating, all right in their own way, yes, vampyrism can be regarded as a genetic disease, or however thou wish'st to see it, there shalt never be an absolute truth.
Vampyrism has been regarded in multifarious ways throughout time, and in each different culture it has taken its roots, regarded and considered as a myth, sometimes, and a dreadful reality, always going towards the spiritual , religious, and the moral part of humanity,
Also called a mental, genetic or blood disease, vampyrism has lost some f its grandeur, but it still intrigues most men,
though the image of the vampyre can be sometimes quite erroneous , depicted as an arisen corpse, and afraid of crucifixes and garlic, though I know I have no need to explain this any further,
Vampyrism nowadays is seen as a reality,
and vampyres as an existing race amongst humanity, something that can be from an spiritual state as well as mental, a higher developmento of consciousness, or , and most unlikely , a disease, but I shalt not judge.
I bid thee farewell,
Lord Markus.
"Nothing is true, everything is possible"

Prions are lovely things. Based upon the theory that matter cannot be created or destroyed I asked my college bio teacher, "Is it possible to have some DNA and composite matter memory that is intact and passed down from being to being over centuries from say... Ben Franklin?"
Her answer was one word: Prions!
Tell me how it is, on a cellular level that this works? Is the element not broken down in digestion? Is it something that creates its own molecule and replicates through each entity that consumes it?
I'm interested....
OK so science misinformaed me and I have to agree with Peekachus BIO PROF that the protein chains that grow so large in bodies that puncture cell walls that kill the cell and then result in cancer are indeed DNA.
I knew DNA were just long protein chains, but I can't imagine why scientists would run experiments find the truh of prions that they are elongated DNA and then fail to mention the word DNA, and then just say they wwere protein chains.
That would mean science kind of lied by an act of omission.
Omitting things of like how the original black eyes got blue, and then blue and black ade golden eyes that it is a vampire realted evolutionary concept is a lie to a society that looks ot science for answers but then only get a black eye as a result, the beuaitful out of the blue or gold gets erased by the black eye science gives us all.
I would agree with the thesis of the topic starter that he is on to something after examining all the data, but he should work on other subjects and not on himself. Go get the syringes out donn the latex gloves and go out and find some masochistic specimens whom want to become vampires.
I would think this is extremly both interesting an dpuzzling, if this is exact then it will be or maybe ti si already, possible to genetcly force by using the prions into the cellullar level of and individual to make a pure vampire to the total complet creation at will, no longer just by imagination or coicidence reactions or actions but by volontary program the process.
I must say pretty impressive
For me, being a Vampire is not a medical condition, it is not something that i need to be treated for.
Reading everyones thoughts, opinions and theories are fascinating. I agree with one that it's how you emphize the wording.
I know who and what I am. I am a Vampire.
You gave a very intellegent post, that I find most believeable. I, myself, have theorized on things like this, though I have never saught another's opinion outside of a friend of mine who is a medical student. I do find it very possible that what you speak of could be true. I also find that vampirism may be a form of evolution. People have evolved in many ways, and it may just be another step in that chain.
I agree that my vampirism is not a medical condition. It is who I am, always have been. I believe it is because the soul inside my body is a vampiric one.
I think the problem with the prion DNA growth elongation migtht be that the vampire in question did not do the GRATEFUL DEAD zipper head move.
I have seen a woman who had teeth like an old roller coaster knocked down on it's sides, and then blown by a giant storm.
DNA if broken either has to be completely ripped, or in it's incomplete form has consequences for the growths that do mutate in visible forms.
The biggest problem with a scientific solution to genetic vampirism as a method of immortality or longer life is that it would be wholly unique for stopping growth without stopping cellular regeneration.
Every species that is currently thought to be 'immortal' from the standpoint that the causes of death are not age themselves (but disease, predators and accidents)...every species in that group continues to grow until death.
That means that while a rockfish never lives forever, due to other means of death, it would be absolutely huge if it kept living owing to the fact that it would keep growing. Were it possible for a human to keep living and it's cells continue to regenerate, it would in fact keep growing and be a giant. The only reason we stop growing is because our cells stop reproducing at a level that allows growth...part of our cellular decay that leads to aging and death.
Here is what science or medicine has to say about a protein in the brain that may have something to do with your theory. I will not give my interpretation:
"osteopontin protects immune cells that have gone haywire and attack the brain. Normal protective mechanisms trigger self-destruction in aberrant immune cells. But osteopontin stops this signal, prolonging the lives of these cells.
Steinman's team is working on antibodies to block osteopontin. But Steinman admits there may be a problem with this approach. Osteopontin seems to play a major role in many normal body functions.
"Like a lot of important biological molecules, osteopontin has a Janus-like quality -- a bad side and a good side," Steinman says in a news release. "We're going to be extremely lucky if we give the antibody opposing osteopontin and derive just the good side."
The new findings appear in the Dec. 3 advance online edition of Nature Immunology."
Osteopontin is a protein. Look into it.
Yes, Vampariah, Osteopontin is a protein abundant in multiple sclerosis-affected brain tissue, but not in normal tissue. Yes, it does interfere with the immune system, but not in a way supportive of the specifics of this discussion. Most notably, it could be used as a marker to tell when people will suffer relapse probably leading to death.
It is a protein we know, one that helps build healthy bone. But when the sick immune system and brain of, say, someone with lupus produces this protein in an unfamiliar way, the T cells that are the disease's attack soldiers remain ever at the ready to attack again and again. That means the immune system can't power down. Nasty things happen to the body and the patient probably dies.
I agree that it's interesting in the specific, but ilness by definition is the body behaving in an uncharacteristic way that compromises the body's usually remarkable ability to heal itself.
My problem with this thread's theory is that I have yet to see the study of vamparism. In order for me to accept a possible CAUSE, medical or otherwise, I need to see this vampire case study...preferably many studies. There just aren't any.
Sooooo..I'm going to stand in line with FelixFelix. I bet we'd be the first ones ready to help figure out the cause if we could scientifically identify the manifestation of said disease, virus, prion malady, or any number of other theories for the mysterious vampire who has never presented medically.
And as an aside to FelixFelix's post regarding gigantism caused by failure to stop growing...yep, the body doesn't like that so much. The heart becomes taxed as do most organs, and Darwin kicks in and weeds that experiment right out.
If you're interested in osteopontin, here is a link: http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2006-12/sumc-mlt120106.php
The genetics behind the immortal or at least really old animals is about cell division and chromosome decay. The idea being that a chemical 'cap' on your chromosomes wears down each time your cell divides and after about 75 times, this cap is gone and your chromosomes decay...followed by aging and death. The animals that seem to live forever, produce large amounts of this chemical (telomerase) but don't ever stop growing because their cells are always dividing.
I wanted to throw out a link as well for an article on Negligible Senescence (the study of 'agelessness' in animals and man).

Telomerase
But if it is encoded at birth what triggers it in some but not others? Perhaps, a traumatic or near life experience....
if it is what makes a so called vampire then what are the symptoms of the 'disease'?im just asking a question that came to mind as i was reading all of the posts.
your theory is highly probably, but what has been studied to come to that kind of conclusion?
what makes a vampire to call it a vampire
to say that the disease makes a vampire a vampire.
it makes sense but it's confusing
Thats a really cool point Felix that i had not heard before.
evolution has to exist because if not we would not be able to adapt
that was very wonderful... quite longer than a couple of post but i enjoyed it immensely.......the theory is quite interesting and yes it does make you wonder about a lot of it.......
I would have to agree with "SatinMist". I do not believe vampyrism to be a disease that needs treatment.
Sorry for the mess up... I meant that I think Vampirism is a disease that is not in need of treatment.
i think that vampires are some thing that was born from the mixing of the demon world and earth a half and half.
just because there might be a difference in dna and cell structure in vampires than in average humans, does not equate it to being a disease. but also, just because there is a difference, does not necessarily mean that vampires are the product of evolving beyond the human...
