just because it's been on my mind lately since i've felt so off-balance and uncentered.
what makes a cleansing ritual/centering oneself work? is it merely emptying ones mind and organizing ones inner soul?
and
what kinds of methods are used?
i understand the answer somewhat falls into what religion you believe in... and that's where i'm meeting a wall due to the fact that i'm somewhat blind to the path that i'm walking.
I think your probably right, it is mostly emptying ones mind and organizing ones inner soul. I don't think it matters that much what religion or if you even have one! You just must believe that what you are trying to do will work!
1. Everything is energy. Humans, animals, minerals, plants, thoughts, emotions --- all of it. Energy.
2. When energy impacts an environment, it changes it. For good or bad --- it will change it.
3. Everything has a spirit (consciousness.)
4. You are part of everything else. What affects one part, affects all other parts.
5. Like attracts like.
6. Cleansing is healing.
Although we might not always be able to sense an energy imbalance; we are nevertheless affected by it. Some areas/buildings feel comfortable to us, while others may make us feel edgy, depressed or anxious to get out. After there has been a heated argument in a room, the atmosphere may feel heavy and dismal. You may even begin to feel irritable yourself. This negative evergy, if allowed to exist and even grow (like attracts like), can adversely affect all the inhabitants in that area. In your house, it can even make you, your family, your pets and your plants sick. It will actually make your house sick. Animals are especially vulnerable as they act as buffers for us, and will absorb this negativity until they get physically sick.
If you do a cleansing ritual or procedure with anger or fear of the negativity you are trying to release, you will only exchange one kind of negativity for another. You gain nothing.
Always enter into any cleansing process with an attitude of love. Negative energy is not bad or evil; it is simply energy that does not sustain you. Nothing is inherently evil --- it is our judgement of it that labels something good or bad.
Every time I find you plagerising someone elses words, I am going to extend your ban.

I have always believed a cleaning ritual to be more about fighting off one's inner demons. I do this through meditation and visualization. I put my emotional and mental issues into a form that I can conquer in battle. (If any of that makes sense.) It is rather difficult to explain, but relatively simple to put into practice.

This section describes what can make an energetic area unclean, why this is problematic, and how to solve this problem. It also makes brief note of the benefits of keeping a generally clean area which is attuned to you.
Energy is our greatest resource. It sustains us, it makes us strong. It is both our weapon and our tool. It is our nature to tread the very threshold between spirit and matter. For this reason, we have a greater sensitivity to the subtle than any other physical being. However, our sensitivities are both a power and a bane. Just as we can easily affect the energies of the subtle reality, so too are we easily affected by them.
We are very sensitive to the energy of the places we live. Discarded energy and emotions flake off of people much like dust, and over time they inevitably build up in a place. A build-up of negative emotions can begin to affect us by altering our health and our mood. This is true to a certain extent of every living being, but for us the sensitivity level is excruciatingly high. We should take care in our living spaces to encourage a good flow of energy through the rooms, and to make certain that the psychic space of our houses is cleaned out once in a while.
To effect such a cleaning, simply go through the house from room to room, reaching out on the subtle level with your energy and scraping things down. Visualize extensions of your energy body literally scraping down the walls and gathering the crud out of the corners. Take care to gather this detritus together and hold it -- do not draw it into your self. When you have gone through the entire house, work toward the front or back door and throw the stuff out. Shake it off your hands, scraping it off if it seems to cling aggressively. Outside, energy flows more freely than indoors, and this negative buildup will be carried away and dissipate naturally once expelled.
Often we will unconsciously react to the subtle nature of a place, responding to the impressions we get from it without even really thinking about it. In order to promote the healthiest atmosphere for ourselves, we must take care that our living space is arranged in such a way that we respond to it positively on the subtle level as well as on the physical. Techniques like Feng Shui are crucial to our kind as even the slightest upset in the energy of a place can affect us. In the most ideal case, the space in which we live should be attuned to us, charged much like the sacred space in a temple or Wiccan circle. Many of us build our sacred space around us naturally and without thinking about it, so that the difference between our space and that of others can be distinctly felt when we visit others and when we travel
Sometimes negitive energy is good for a cleansing.
It will force your mind to stay sharp.
it is about clearing your mind mostly and relaxing........ i usualy like nc do it in metitation...... or since ihave three kids lock the bathroom door and soak in a hot tub ...... i think relaxing and opening yoour mind is a good start.......
Regardless of your spiritual belief, there is a positive result to trying to initiate a positive environment.
The most common form of 'cleansing' is smudging which involves using sage incense as the focus for pushing positive energy into the target. Feathers are often used as a means of pushing the smoke.
The reason that this one is so popular and works so well for so many is that it's really pretty innocuous. There's no need for incantations. There's no need for prayer to set deities. You just use the incense. Think of a positive or cleansed target and push the smoke around it. It can be done to a person (like a stressed out friend), an object (like a recently purchased used item that feels uncomfortable) or a place (like a home or apartment and even hauntings).
Cleansing yourself you can do a variety of things. First shower or bath in herbs and oils, then prepare yourself in what you would consider ritual clothing, you can go outside and stand barefooted and focuse and ground your energies. With cleansing your ritual tools you can soak them in sea salt. There are many things you can do.
I believe them to be mostly meditation...the tools and what not are to help you focus...to relax is the key...you can after practice perform them at work.

I use the grounding and centering method. Which helps by expelling ones negative energies into the ground and making you become one with all around you. It helps to center ones self because you find yourself with a sense of balance you cant quite explain.
There are different ways to do cleansings. Just simply making an environment around you that is calming to your soul can help you cleanse. Sometimes even something like a hot bath with bath salts and candles can help, then your getting cleansed in all aspects. It is all about what works for you as a person and how you release that negative energy.
I think there are many ways to cleanse ones mind... depending on where i am at, and the time available, i chose different technics... i will go to the gym late at night and into one of the big empty class room and grab a mat. sometimes it is just breathing exercizes, other times it has more of a yoga feel.
my most common method though is just taking a long hot shower. all i do is concentrate on the water and using the physical cleansing processes to also unclutter and free my mind.
I feel that meditating is a very good source of cleansing I myself take a hot bath and do my cleansing in that sense.
I think that just taking a nice hot bath/shower would do some good. The water symbolizes purity and the steam represents your sins lifting from your body. It'd help to meditate or just do something that relaxes you. Cleansing the mind isn't that hard. It's just a matter of cleaning and relaxing. You probably do it everyday.
it all depends on your point of view and how you clense yourself
Well clearing ones mind defaintely helps.
I suggest you buy white sage and burn it while running it all along your body while attempting to clear your mind
I dunno about you- but to me, that is the most calming smell in the whole world.
Whenever I have a bad day it's a safe bet I'll use the sage and I'll feel 100% better
Cleansing rituals vary from religion to religion, each group has a veriant type in regards to themselves. Salt and Water seem to be the traditional aspect in the sense to cleanse one self from impurity.
In this, the Shinto Rituals, always start of with cleansing, for being dirty is seen as bad when speaking to the Kami.
In this, the Misogi, which is a general term for all cleansing rituals, will be performed by those who wish to speak to the Kami and the Kannushi (Priest).
usually one washes their hands and face before they go to the shrine in order to speak to the Kami, not to mention during major ceremonies, the Kannushi will use a bit of salt upon themselves and the followers to help emphasize cleaniness.

occasionally to cleanse my mind and soul i sit on the ground and i light candles and my friend told me to get good herbs that smell great and sprinkle them around...and just push the bad out of you.
MarixD how can you determine what is good energy to everyone? there is no difference at all, between good and bad anyhow, something that may be bad to you may be good for me , do you catch my concept?
I would have to agree that it takes out the bad, the worry, the shame. it reorders it and allows you to become comfortable and at ease.
it veries from person to person belife to belife. i use meditation to do my centering and cleansing of myself
Cleansing Rituals are good at times just to get rid negativity that around you .
i think all you have to do is admit all what wrong you have done, accept the consequences, ask for absolution from people you've done wrong. after that, you'll feel lighter and cleansed.
if you're a religious perso, you may consider having a confession from a priest
i say cleansing spells are a way to work around ur aura somehow u feel there is evil presence , i dont know if there is u should ask a priest for help on that if it gets worse.
i think cleansing rituals are great for clearing your mind and relaxing....most do it thru meditation or yoga....
A physical cleansing ritual is mostly done as a symbolic gesture but also depending on certain religions it is demanded before one goes into any form of supplication of meditative state.
Aside from a gesture, it also cleans the body of dead skin which can cause the body to feel uncomfortable during prayer or meditation. You know how "cleaner" you feel after taking a bath or shower, and it is that feeling that enhances the mental state and prepares you for the next step.
An internal cleansing works along the same methods and purifies the body by reducing the poisons and impurities in the blood.
