Hi people I need your advice!

I know most of the things that are required for an astral travel meaning that you need to protect your body with some sort of talisman etc.

I have also heard a lot of times that meditation is the key to achieve astral projection cause it helps calming your spirit and stay focused...

On the few times I had tried it I had some weird experiences... I felt caged in my body, I experienced psysical pain while trying to get ''out''. Another time I felt some sort of vertigo...Other times I was so relaxed I fell asleep...

What am I missing here? Am I doing something wrong?

I think that you need more practice, your doing everything right, you just have to figure out the tone of relaxing that you need to get to. Right now your flying past it so you fall asleep.

Seems like, your not focusing on how to 'get out' right.Like..if there somthing on your mind, keeping you from wanting to leave your body. And it sounds like a lack of sleep there. You need to feel comfort but yet awake enough to do this.

Too many "I"s. Who is this "I" that is trying to force astral travel? You travel every night or day that you sleep. What you want to do is to have total recall of your travels. After this, then you can travel at will. But you need to realize this "I" that wants to travel. Once you learn that it can't, then "you" can start to practice.

I agree with billy as well, you need to tell yourself as your going to sleep that you want to remember your travels and as soon as you wake up write in a dream journal anything you remember. Your problem is that you have to remind yourself to remember and you do that by telling yourself that you will.

One way to practice is to form an energy ball in your hands. Then place your intentions into the ball. Send the ball to a place that you wish to travel to. Have the ball come back to you and see if you can pickup any images that the ball came back with. After this exercise for several months, send your conscience into the ball instead of intention. Go to bed. When you get up, have the ball come back and see what you can. You should also be writing down any and all impressions that you have been picking up. You will notice that you will be able to pickup more, the more you practice. Months, years, lifetime of practice. And notice there are no "I"s anywhere. It's "you."

Ok I understand what you are saying Billy. This isn't something that I can force to happen... Especially if I'm not there to do it...And thanks for the ''tips'' too...

I don't really feel that I have to achieve it right now, the only thing I want to get rid of is the vertigos and the pain... I think that what you and LadyWinterRogue suggested might help... It's true that I'm having trouble to recall my dreams too...

It's also entirely possible that you've traveled and just don't remember it, since you don't remember dreams well, either. And the "pain" is possibly a subconscious fear of leaving your body. It happens...

Its not just moving your consciousness, its also about moving your ki, your spirit into another place from your body, for those who don't have a clue as to the consequences of what they are doing it will harm you a lot. Even those who do it often and are trained know that it can put quite a strain on your mind and your body for these things weren't meant to be seperated prematurely.

Good Comments Billy.. Helpful for me, too.

I plan to attempt to astral-travel on the next full-moon with a good friend beside me to guide me through.

He is adamant I can do it.. as I am very spiritually atune and open.. and I have a psychic awareness.

I find it difficult to open whilst I am Under IYKWIM.

I wholeheartedly agree with Billy the just....

I have had a word with my fiancee too and she suggests that you should try some deep meditation to focus on controlling your ineer self to help you to project your innser self via astral projection.

i don't find astral travel too difficult as i usually relax and meditate for a while prior to going astral. However if you find meditation difficult and can't concentrate you could try using a candle to concentrate upon just to get you started.

Relax and breath slowly. I find total silence is needed. Sometimes I realize a state of weightlessness as if I am floating. The key for me is a clear mind.

Billy is very close to being right. You do have to learn to let go. While the practice of an energy ball may work for some, it will not work for all.

First and foremost, relax. You are very close to astral projecting consciously. Many people report a sense of vertigo as they are about to "get out", that's very common. The key is to learn to recognize the sense of vertigo when it comes and realize THAT is the point where you must let go.

It takes practice and meditation. Meditation is key, indeed. You have to learn to quiet the mind before you can expect real success at astral projection.

I find that counting down and breathing helps me to get to that space where I'm ready to start projecting.

It's important to realize that not many people are good at meditating to start. If your mind flits from one thought to the next, you are going to have a low success rate at getting out. Your mind is where a lot of things connect. The physical mind concentrates on the here and now. If you never get past here and now, it is impossible to get to there and then.

The mental self is the between point and the spirit self or spirit mind is the one that gets to do the traveling. The reason meditation and calming the mind is so important is that you have to literally be able to let go of what's going on here and now. This means thinking about last night, the day you just had, on down to "My toes itch".

When these thoughts come (note *when* not if), the key to letting them go is to let them travel and leave at will. Gently detach them rather than forcibly ousting them from your mind.

Once you are relaxed there are several methods to help you get out. Here are my general practical ways to get out, not in any specific order.

A. Set up a scenario of "getting out". This is my favorite as it is natural to me. After you relax and get yourself comfortable and find your center, start to visualize an exit play in your mind. Don't move, continue to breathe. And if interrupting thoughts come, let them come and gently bring yourself back to your visualization.

My personal one involves starting on a forest trail that leads to a meadow to a castle gate. Inside the castle are several doors and hallways, each leading to a different aspect of astral travel, whether it be remotely viewing another place, another time, my ritual chambers, or the library to look at the akashic records (not successful there, but i did find mine, they have my current sigil on the front of the book... that wasn't premeditated, it was something i saw there and have used since).

Each other chamber involves a series of steps going down. When you reach wherever your visualization takes you (commonly a door), open the door and step out. This stepping out is the same as letting go. If you have succeeded to this point, don't be surprised if vertigo sets in or a sensation of pulling or even dropping. The important thing is to let that sensation come and go, just as the stray thoughts came and went. Then, open your mind to what's behind the door.

B. many people have had success relaxing their body and starting out with their energy centers. It basically involves moving the energy from the bottom and from the top chakra to the chakra of your choice... many choose the third eye, as it naturally is the door to intuitive sight. When you gather the energy there, gently push your consciousness outwards. Using this method I tend to find myself standing in my room or floating above my body which is a little disconcerting to start, but once you get the hang of it, it's a cool thing.

Both of these methods have worked startlingly well for me where all others have failed. They simply involve detaching the spirit self from 3 dimensional existence and "wandering off" as it were.

People say you should attach a cord, etc etc to keep yourself anchored. I find that both unneccessary and distracting.

It's a good idea to build a shield for yourself or protect yourself during the initial meditation. Then, closing the door isn't a concern on the way out.

Good luck, practice, and check out my member article for more information. (shameless plug)

Final note about method A. in the above post. It helps if you create your visualization so that the end of it signifies stepping out and moving elsewhere as it were. You must be prepared to expect something unplanned behind the door in order to associate that with leaving your body.

I have to give you a word of warning...
Some times it can be dangerious to astral travel... I personally take a Familure with me when i do... Because on almost every time i have been attacked a few times... Shadows do love to attack sometimes.... Looking for easy pray but in my case they usually bite off more then they can chew and deal with being ate by my little pet...

Regarding the warning about astral travel...

Astral travel if done correctly, is no more dangerous than walking across a busy street in broad daylight.

Astral travel can be dangerous if you're not prepared and don't have some kind of idea of working metaphysically. Personally, I spent many months at my own abode created on the astral plane when I first started.

For the most part, entities have better things to do than conduct large scale attacks on one person. As a precaution, I use the shielding idea Jenova described, and take it with me when I travel. It stays physically around me but also travels with me. It doesn't hurt to have a little passing knowledge on psychic self defense.

I also developed a fast exit trigger for myself. A quick hand gesture that triggers me back into physical reality. I don't like using it because of the quick lashback to reality, but it works in case of emergencies.

Personally, Ghost, I have heard it as a rumor, but have yet to come across any documented cases in my readings.

However because you are essentially sending your spirit out amongst the ether, I would assume a bad run-in could definitely get you severely injured in a spiritual sense. Because a portion of your consciousness stays with the body, I would assume you would live... in a way.

I have never really wondered about the effects of an astral plane encounter strong enough to cause real damage and effects in the physical world. I proceed with caution every time out. Hm. Interesting.

Dreams can be a form of astral travel indeed.

In terms of needing an emotional connection, the spirit body is often very tied with the links of the emotional body. So an emotional level connection is no surprise.

I have myself had a nasty experience where i was backed into a corner and had to fight my way out of it during one of my astral sessions.

I was very lucky as my physical body was unharmed but my spiritual self still carries some of the scars from the battle.

I neither won or lost the battle as I was able to distract my assailants attention for long enough to slip away, however, it was not an easy task to achieve.

I do advise anyone to make sure they are properly protected before attempting astral travel as it does have the potential to be extremely dangerous.

I agree with Jenova in the fact that i do not think it so dangerous as to cause harm to the physical body in any major or life threatening way (although i have returned from astral experiences with minor scrathes to my physical self), however the spiritual damage could very well range from something minor to something extremely severe.

I find Astral Travel really difficult because I cannot focus. I suck at meditating because I become distracted so easily..especially by the voice in my head.
The best times i've had at traveling is when I didn't bother "getting out of my body". The body is kinda irrelevant in this sort of thing. Just be where you want to be and reaffirm you are there by slowly letting yourself feel yourself without your body. Some people need to see themselves getting out..just to reaffirm everything, but you can end up being too attached to the physical that way.

Astral Travel is sometimes hard because your body has to be totally clear, medition helps but you also need talismans, inscence, a book, protection spells etc..its very difficult if your doing it for the first time as you might not have reach the ideal medition level for astral projection or Astral travel!

in astral travel...it's not going to happen unless you can get a mind set and believe that it can be a reality then you need to will yourself to that other realm of reality after learning to focus and concentrate spiritually.. it does take time for others and sometimes it's instant depending.

There is really very little I can add to what's already been said except:

If you find it hard to get out by rising, try falling instead. I have heard of some who had successful AP by falling out of their body vs rising out of their body.

Give into the sense of vertigo and feel yourself falling until you're out.

IGHOST that experience is worrying, if it has happened as many times as you say, my question is this...how many times have you performed astral projection successfully?

You see, if you have successfully done it hundreds of times, then having that experience is not really a major problem, just remember to keep yourself protected, however, if you have only been successful say 10 or 20 times and this experience had happened 4 or 5 times, then it is a real cause for concern as it would seem that something does not wnat you to experience the astral realms and their wonderous informative palces they have to offer.

menerfecious. yes. as far as i can remember. ive been successful for 14 times so far. the first time it happened,i saw a face. it was kinda weird. then the 2nd time,i didnt see anything. everything was so black. i only felt myself inside my body and something was wrapped around me. the 3rd and 4th was the weirdest. it happened just a few hours apart. i didnt see anything though i felt this presence coming near me,and somewhat bit me in my back(since i usually sleep face down) and held me there for a few moment when i realized what was happening and i struggld until i was free. and then i woke up. i still feel the pain where it bit me. i tried my best not to go back to sleep but i only had a few hours of sleep so i had no choice. after 2 hours or so. i felt this presence again coming near me. and this time. it bit me harder. and this time. it took me longer time to wake up coz it was stronger. it took almost all my strength till i broke free. and then i woke up.

I would have to agree with Billy and Jenova because it was how I learned way back how to travel. There are many ways to travel yet the basics are something that are hmmm perhaps tought rather than learned but then some of us are naturals at it.

Astral projection can be a very difficult task to try. I have found that meditation, relaxation have a tendency to help quite abit. Also when you are trying this particular thing, try to imagine yourself leaving your body. Think like you are spirit form. I hope this helps a little bit.

I do not know much about astral travel but after reading the posts I have to agree with La6Muerte66.

I believe it also may mean that you are not ready to let go and you may need more practice.

I suggest that you read the post that jenova has made as she has suggested an excellent technique to protect yourself from such things.

When I first started to perform astral projection, I was young and very naieve (i hope thats spelt right) and had no protection, I learnt how to protect myself with the use of chaos magick and astral magick as i progressed.

I have never myself had anything try to stop me from performing astral projection.

However, if it had happened to me, although I would have been much more determined to do it, i would also have waited until i had researched it more and tried to work out what was tring to stop me.

This is a course of action i suggest to you.

I think your difficulty lies in the bodies self defense mechanism, if you are not relaxed enough there will be panic and you will be pulled back in.
I have only ever confirmably astral traveled once (other times I am sure I did but can't confirm it) which involved me visiting my friend. I did it while I was asleep and it works for me because I am often lucid in that state. I can never relax enough while I am awake. So I think relaxation is part of the key.
Also you should shield as a safety precaution in general.

Try this:

The easiest way/time to project is in that moment, just after you awaken, when your sort of still asleep, kinda dreaming, but your also awake and have the ability to choose to go back to sleep or wake up. It is in that inbetween moment when it is easiest to escape your body.

You have to go somewhere that you have absolutly no distractions so you can get complete and total focus in meditation in order to astral travel. second, you when meditating to do so need to focus on leaving your body. In meditation imagine yourself leaving your body first and then on actually doing it.

Billy said it right in the beginning of this thread, its not the fact of not being able to travel its the ability to remember that you have.. You need to train your mind to remember what you do while asleep.

I must disagree, astral projection is the art of projecting your waking soul to another plane of existence.

To remember what you experience while on an astral plane when asleep is the art of remembering what happened during lucid dreaming.

Lucid dreaming (although technically astral projection) does not have the control of the waking mind, and therefore cannot actually be properly classed as astral projection. Lucid dreaming is also the first stage of learning astral projection.

lose your fears of the unknown thus being astral projection and you will not be trapped.the learning how to astral project ones self is the easy part the difficult part is putting those teachings past the thought process and implimenting them into reality...sometimes it takes a long time to achieve the desired effect and other times it is instant, there are instances of automatic astral traveling which one needs to learn how to controll after being able to perform this task i can recall years ago when i first started learning about Astral Travel it took me about 2 months to actually understand and to complete the process but afterwards i would have sessions of automatic astral projections when laying down or in deep thought.
heres a link that will help you out, good luck on your ventures.

Start With the basics.

Step one:

Invision a blue ball (doesn't have to be blue just using it as an example)

After you invision a ball you would try to turn it into something doesn"t matter what that something is.

After mastering that. YOu would invision yourself in a differnt place and try to repeat that several times.

Once that step is accomplished you can go where others allow you too. You can NOT go where your not wanted Thus making it feel you are traped. cuz you ain't wanted there.

That is some very good advice fizbop, but if you imagined the sphere to be protecting you and you inside it, then imagined that the sphere took you to wherever you want to go, then the sphere would allow you to go anywhere and not get trapped.

Don't you think?

To answer your quesiton. Yes you could do that. Once again it's also the matter of somoene allowing you to be there. Some people have the gift that block astral travel. You not trapped but you feel as if you are. It's all about not going aggainst the will of the person.

I think we have to have our mind set on it and have to concentrate on leaving our body. One may be concentrating but lose the concentration after so long. The pain is probly another force trying to keep u into ur body but then again it may be something inside u telling u ur not ready or something.

Some wise words fizbop, i do agree, as a practiioner of astral projection I have come across a few that I would dearly love to block, some i have been able to, but most have been able to pass my blocking attempts. I think it is all really down to who has more experience and astral energy aswell. If you try to bypass a block that someone has put up, then sometimes you can if you are experienced enough to do so and have enough astral energy.

Astral Travel is no more dangerous than walking across the street if you know how to do it properly. :)

Anyways, if anyone is interested in learning more and would like some practicals to help them get started, here is a good place to get started.

In my opinion, a person can put themselves into danger. I don't think anything extreme can happen, however I am not sure. I know that practice makes perfect. Try to start out small, like try to astral project into another room into the house. Remember to always relax. I always like to keep a crystal in my hands so I feel safer doing it. Astral projection is a really tricky thing. In my experience I did alot of research on it, and tried it in a group before I attempted it alone.

I still haven't run into any problems with it. But that's my experience. No danger so far. Try an astral projection group like the one Jenova has started. It's a safer way to practice getting to a protected realm that already exists.

Well said Jenova, to add to your post … I see people at different levels, some advanced some not. for those who are having trouble projecting and are past meditation and focus stage. Try exercising just parts like arms or foot ect as you may well have energy blocks which cling to your astral body and stop it from ascending. Hence the want yet inability to project.
When first attempting I feel my energy rise from a vertigo position like a banana shape of my body still connected normally in the middle or groin chakra, head gets clear and feet get clear by an inch or so … work on that.
Energy blocks feel like to me like a tingling with a buzz vibration normally in my toes or arms. I also get the feeling like ants crawling over me or as my friend says “angels eyelashes blinking as they gaze at your spirit. I like to think of it as cobwebs lol
Some have reported hurt like bone tingle or cramping … I would check that out if you are cramping and maybe change position as you don’t need your body distracting you.
As you learn to work your energy some slip right out like a baby being born. As the sensations reduce it doesn’t mean your losing energy or the ability and you have not done something wrong. What you have done is unblocked the choking points and become stronger.
Hope that has helped.

Feeling caged and trapped is generally a bad thing. It could signal that something is wrong you have to work out before you can project yourself.

However, I'd kinda like to remind everyone that if astral projection was *easy* then it wouldn't take decades to get a grasp on. Astral projection is something you work at, it's a tool given to you when you prove you have the focus, determination and wisdom it takes to take advantage of it.

Just because you can't do it doesn't mean there's something wrong with you, persay, it just means that you may need to look within a lot more before you try projecting yourself.

i have never heard of going through any physical pain besides a head ach.... Most of the time people have a hard time with astral projection is the fact that subconsiously they panic and they feel that if they " come out" they wont be able to come back in. You will always come back though i was reading something about it cause i am also interested in doing it but never got the chance to yet. You are conected to your body but a type of string you can say and you will always be able to return it will never pop. Try reaserching some more and get a couple different ways on how to do it. Then see which one works best then just practise that one until you get it cuase you might be subconsiously panicing )O( Brie )O(

Practice with a mantra, hopefully one-syllable like "clear"... That one worked for me the first time... Darkness turned to greyness turned to floating..

The second you allow conscious thought to excite yourself though is where most people falter.

Like my sister Ladywinterroogue said, make a small ritual when you sleep to remind yourself to remember your dreams, and try to make remembering the first thing you do when you wake up. Write it down in a journal. It worked for me until I was able to do it while awake.
