Since Jenova has brought it up, and there seams to be suport for the misnomer; what do you think would be a more appropriate name for Psychic Vampires.
Pranic Vampire?
Throw out random possibilities for other names; and lets not get too emotionally attached to any one particular defence or attack of any given concept.
What are the reasons for Psychic vampire being inappropriate?
Pranic Vampire works, In all reason, it is the Prana or Chi that a vampire seeks to imbibe to recover lost energy, So be it through energy feeding from open emotional holes being projected by the target, or be it blood from a donor. Pranic Vampires would cover as a General title to all of it.
I agree that to say psychic vampire, you would then be reffering to something that feeds off of the abilities of something, not just emotions. And there are many that don't drain the psychic powers of others when they feed, just the emotions and body currents, again prana.
Silly question but since everyone feeds or takes in nourishment of some kind, why use the word vampire at all?
It is a good way to recognize the subculture more the act of feeding. At least those who not able to grasp that everything that lives and dies is a form of vampire to something else.
When ever I say Psychic Vampire people just look at me weird and think I'm crazy. It's the term used in the name that makes it sound off. Cause a Psychic Vampire feeds off energy not blood. And if people didn't see a blood thristy creature when you said the word 'vampire' things would be different. But people these days are so closed minded.
I don't know what would be a better suited name for Psychic Vampires but I sure know we need something different.
I never taugh psychic was a wrong term or a wrong thing but I'll keep and eye here to knwo waht other think
I'm not saying it's the wrong thing to say. I'm just hopeing that the world wouldn't think blood thristy vampire when they hear it.
Humph. I like that. I think I will go with that for now on. =D
I believe in the acts, practice, and life of what psychic vampires do and are- but I don't agree with 'psychic' or 'vampire' for the title.
who knows what we should call them nothing sounds right to people who dont understand so we should just call them what they are
I side with Stabb on this particular subject. "Psychic" to me implies someone who has psychic powers, as mentioned. This is the case with vampires to a greater or lesser degree. Some vampires have no psychic ability to speak of, others have the basics of sensing and seeing energy.
The others who are aware and possibly deserving of the term would be those who manipulate energy and are able to feed as they choose rather than running amok in society.
Simply put, I think pranic vampire is more appropriate. It names what we are after, just as blood vampire names what they are after. And it doesn't leave room for fuzzy-wuzzy psychic phenomenon.
I use the term because the term is already in place, but psychic vampire is very much a misnomer.
Billy:> Yes, all creatures feed and take in energy of sorts. Still, the difference lies in what the vampire *needs*. The need surmounts the casual touch or casual mingling that feeds the energy of most people. There is a conscious and physical need for a higher energy intake than the average person would need, and that is part of what defines the pranic vampire vs the normal person on the street.
Just my take...
Yes but again, why use a word that is associated with the undead? Seems some people need more than the dead food that others eat. Or raw food for that matter. I have been known to run to the mall myself on occasions and same for the woods. But do I have to use the vampire to describe myself? I think not.
And your point is well taken, Billy. You do not need to call yourself a vampire. At first, I was resistant to the title because... vampire/ undead creature of the night registered an "ewww" effect on me personally.
However, vampire also for many will encompass the predatory creature of night that they wish to be. Truth be told, I'm more of an "energy worker". I hate that term too for all the whitelighter goodness it implies.
It's all an issue of semantics. Those of us who are a little more inclined towards the flair of night time and the creatures of the night feel comfortable with the term vampire. It is wholly possible to have the same characteristics of a vampire and not use the term to describe the self.
Billy,
Shall we then refer to you as a Pranic Leech or mosquito; I think that lifestyle comes into play when we incorporate vampire. I think the term psychic vampire generally comes into popular usage to mean those who drain energy from people, people that are very taxing on the psyche of others. It is not very flattering indeed, and does not in any way indicate that one has attempted to filter or in any other way moderate their feeding. It does however adeptly indicate that there is a need for the Prana.
Essentially by saying Pranic Vampire, I think that you indicate that you are discriminate in your feeding, that you know (somewhat) what you are doing, do it consciously, and that you adhere or are enamoured by the lifestyle (even if you cannot always live by it.)
Myself I wouldn`t use pranic, as I haven`t the leanings towards the cultures it derives from, same with chi....for me the correct term would simply be energy, but I agree with some that the word vampire is actually the problem word, both socially, and historically in regards to a purely energy feeder....
here, lets be politically correct and refer to ourselves as energy manipulation practitioners.
hehe
or just toss convention and stop caring what others think and use the common and well known term...
prestipranattor
prestepranattor
prestopranattor
Energy manipulater
Pranipulator
You can call me anything but late for dinner. ;) But do you think we would hear less of this topic if more people were to use "Pranic Leech?" Would the " Pranic Leech Manual" be a best seller? Even the lifestyle, I believe, is full of people fascinated with the vampire romance. If more people focused on the Nosferatu aspect we would not being using the vampire term at all. It is fast being a fad.
I think in wikepedia the psychic vampire is also known as a psionic vampire (a vampire which uses energy rather than blood to feed) and this said do we really need to name a vampire of any kind with a lable? In my opinion we have enough racism outside our community without re-naming a vampire and creating more within our community.
I had forgotten an image I used to carry in my head of an energy vampire.
A vampire with his fangs stuck into a european socket. LOL
Surely there must be a cartoon of this somewhere.
How about psionic manipulation practitioner....
as most psy`s i know of not only feed on energy, but can also release energy to others
Don't forget about the Unions.
That would be, "psionic manipulation practitioner technician." lol
Pranic or psychic, either one could be appropriate. The problem is the people who are no more than leaches, not even vamps, who just seem to drain all the life out of everyone they deal with and demand attantion like drama queens. They give psyvamps a bad name because there is no difference in terms.
Trouble is people who don’t know see psychic vampire wrong and pranic will be some type of killer fish piranha lol
I didn’t know what I was and just drained energy sexually … I see my self as a cambion
Personally I like the neat QI vampire sounds like “ chee vampire” means energy flow
Biofield eater
Etheric vampirism
Mana beings
Labels limit the actual practice. If the uninformed wish to use labels then use preditory energy manipulation or predatory spiritualism.
it takes a great amount of strength and power to become something like a psy vamp
and i think that it is wrong and inapporopriate for apsy vamp to entrude on someones personall thoughts and feelings without consent
Why Would You Want To Change A Name Of Something That Aready Is
it is what it is and thats a psychic vampire i think you can use a name change it if you will but in the end the meaning will still be the same.
i agree with the post above me...if in any sense the word will always have the same meaning..why fight to make it sound politically correct or something? I suppose if someone wanted to use the other terms it would just be up to them to make that personal judgement...
we all feed different it dont matter what they call us i feed several different ways
A mere person gave it a name- mere people could possibly change it.
I've heard of the term 'psychic vampire' and I agree with those who say it is easy to misinterpret the name as being something else. I, myself, prefer the term 'pranic energy vampire', as that name is equally misunderstood as what it represents. However, if someone has a better name, I am always open to new ideas.
Remember that this thread is hypothetical.
No one is really intending to change the name...
It is purely for the joy of debating something that would not likely change even if we could get any kind of concensus.
I never really thought the term to be wrong, but I guess it could be misleading. I'm not sure what a better term would be though.
I know two definitions for "Psychic Vampires."
The one that I know of and see nearly everyday is the one you read in Dr. Anton LaVey's Satanic Bible.
The "Psychic Vampire" is a human who gets what he wants from other people and uses that person to buy whatever it is he or she wants. If the people say "no," then the "Psychic Vampire" makes the victim feel guilty until that item is bought for the "Psychic Vampire."
Now then, there is the vampire feeds off, not blood, but a sort of "energy" from someone and gets their kicks from that certain feeding, let it be through touching and feeling, or flatout sex. They may also steal your energy from the other side of a room...
Remember, this is only what I have heard, so my information may not be correct.
If I am mistaken, please, do correct me.
I would go with energy vamp . Most people would understand this term better than psy vamp .
"Dr. Anton LaVey's Satanic Bible. "
hehe now thats funny.....he held no doctorates in any known subject, and was widely regarded as a plaigiarist for most of his works
anyways....
how about biofield intake and containment unit?
i still believe that it is just a word and a personal preference as to what you wish to call it.
ok ty i do understand a little more....
but how ever i wouldnt know what to call it... to each there own ?
Why not just call them Energy Vampires, i thought that is what they are taking anyway but i could be wrong since i am not a Psychic Vampire...
hmmm... I can understand why the term "psychic vampire" can be labeled a misnomer. Pranic vampire does sound better since it narrows down more which is exactly a psy vamp. Even the word vampire may sound strange to many people because most people think of vampires as being "monsters of the undead". So of course these close-minded individuals would think that one is crazy for one to label themselves as being a psy "vamp".
Maybe "Pranic feeder" would be a better term??
again...one has to be following an eastern mindset for the term prana to mean diddly...
I don't term myself for this reason...but if someone wanted a label from me..I would say energy manipulator
Prana tends to indicate human energy.
Posts roughly a year ago in various threads (ie drinking snake blood) indicated that animal energy was significantly more difficult to work with and did not generally satisfy and indeed tended to make people ill.
Also, pranic excludes anyone working with geo energy, which may go with koldun (walachia geo magic) and the RP Tzimisce and some aspects of the "vampire motherland;" however it is generally accepted that of the 3 most widely accepted vampiric forms (Psy, Sangue and Sex) that it is pranic energy that is being consmed as oppposed to animal and geo.
I supose there are some sexual vampires feeding off of animals (eww), maybe the odd cucumber or honeydew... but I digress *laughs*
prana only means human energy to those who have heard the term....and there are a large number who have NOT
I know it...but refuse to use it for this reason. it is an eatern term, and many in western culture wouldn't know it, the most all encompassing term is simply energy...this leaves NO form of energy out, be it bioetheric, sanguinary, elemental, mystic, or any other that one can possibly name
but this is the last i will say on it as I think this thread burned itself out a while back
i come across the term energy vampire more then psychic vampire anyway. I think it is general enough to cover many various styles/needs of feeding.
Well it is energy we are retriving from the other person. I have always said "Energy" seems more appropiate to me.
well psi vamps when people ask me what i am i say psi and thats it
I would tend to refer to myself anyways as pranic as opposed to psi. I am a member of one of first pranism society forums on the web.But it still remains something that most are not familiar with, even though the termanology has been around for a while. But most don't know what one is referring to when u do say pranic energy. So when talking generally, I just say psi.
Psi Vamps are vampyres that don't like blood...a way to stay a hip vampyre and not have to deal with the cutting and sucking...otherwise Dion Fortune would'nt have written about psychic self defence in the early 20th ce, and the "Codex" would have been sold as remainders...."pranic feeder" comes to mind.
