*brings to thought the vampire pomeranian from blade 3*

Yes, vampiric spirits have been at least in theory to be able to take such forms. However I would ascribe at this point to the concept that the spirit of the vampire inhabiting a vessel of an animal(not human) would be more of a possessing demonic spirit that manifests itself in the host as a vampiric entity, As such the spirit possesses the creature, and possession has been observed an recorded in cases where they effect candles, stones, houses, people, a bottle of wine (yes there was a demonic infestation found in a case of possession in the late 1600s or early 1700s if memory serves), to animals, both domestic and livestock. So it becomes a matter of yes, its possible, is it common, I have no idea.

lol

Vampires are not characterized by biting alone. They are defined mainly as extortionists, or beings that take from others. Furthermore, vampires are extortionists that purposefully take energy from others.

Biting is an natural animal instinct that most animals tend to do when they are scared. This does not make them vampires.

Considering this, the only factual animal that I'd think fits into the 'Vampiric Animal' category would be the appropriately named Vampire Bat. All otherwise, no, they are simply animals acting on their instincts.

I don't mean to offend, but this was just a bit confusing. It seems that you are taking something from fiction (vampires taking on the form of an animal) and trying to tie it into reality. Animals are animals. Bottom line. Their teeth and claws are what they use to feed themselves and defend themselves. They do not bite because they are vampires.

In most fiction where a vampire turns into any kind of animal it is usually as a form of disguise. Or a means of doing something better. For instance, they would turn into a bat or crow to fly so that they could get somewhere faster. They never really do it to...bite someone. Why would a vampire need to turn into an animal to bite? Isn't that what their fangs are for??? ;)

I am of the thought that animals that bite tend to do so out of protection for themselves. There are exceptions to the rule of course (for example, some animals may lightly nip at one another while they play), but to me, the only 'vampiric' animals are those that practice vampirism to stay alive. Leeches and mosquitoes are a good example of this. I am not 100% certain that vampire bats need to drink blood to survive.

Anyway - I don't buy for a second that animals biting for whatever reason are actually vampires in disguise. It could make a great fictional premise though... Sharks have been feared for 1000s of years by humans. Eric Everyman is the scientist that discovers their awful secret - they are actually vampires in disguise!!!

Tee hee hee. :)

Cinnamon.. answers to your reply

i am not baseing my question on fiction at all.. i mean noone sees past life vampires correct... and people talk about reincarnation and ect.. so thats why i asked to get peoples opinions.. and as for the reality part on which you said.. no body knows the truth on day one on how the first thing was created in our life... i mean anything is possible for what we dont know... so i feel all aspects on questions are free to speak.. all has different opinions which is kool but its the thought.... any liveing thing can be as is... we use our hands to pick things up and ect ect.. some use there hands to kill we hunt to kill animals to feed.. so with animals useing there claws and teeth to feed and so forth to me that is not different from us..... and far as vampires. some of you bite to drink, some use needles some cut... and as for the discise thing, yes it was to hide themselves.. so that theary is maybe they are hideing them selves now.. can be dog form ect ect..i mean how many past life vampires do we see today... you say that they would turn into a bat or crow or something.... ok why not a dog, cat, ect.
i do not think a vampire would have to turn into a animal to bite... but if they are hideing from life so noone knows of them from past history of vampire hunters and ect... they want to hide.. im sure you dont see vampires in everyday life....i dont know but to me anything is possible

So... Um... Ok... Wow.

So, you're saying that these animals could be vampires reincarnated and that's why they bite??? Am I following? lol

Well, if that's the picture that you're attempting to paint then I'd have to say that you first have to believe in reincarnation and then you'd have to believe that we come back as other species. I do, in fact, believe in reincarnation. However, I do not believe that we come back as other species. I'm actually still out on whether or not we come back as different genders!

Anyhow, I still have to stick by my original theory. No, animals that bite are not vampires.

Also, as far as my example about vampires turning into bats or crows goes...I used that to make my point that flying would get them to their destination faster than walking. I never ruled out the possibility that they could take on other forms.

Keep in mind that I'm talking about fictional vampires when I talk about them taking on animal forms. I still believe this is only relevant in fiction. Not in the here and now. That's my opinion and I'm entitled to it just as you're entitled to yours...but you did ask me for mine by starting this thread. :)

Oh my lord.Reincarnating vampires into little fluffy animals.lol!Oh geeze.A vamp could use an animal form to hunt better with. Not all vamps can change though..only a few kinds can.
Animals bite cause its a warning for you to stay away. Not cause they want your blood.Unless its either..mosquito,or vampy-bat,leech,and other blood drinker animals..that must
drink blood to survive..not cause they are vampires.
animals bite for defence...cause they arent like people
they dont have thumbs..and have enough smarts to make guns and knives.lol.

There is an interesting question lurking unseen in this posting... how far does man (and ultimately vampyr) vary from the animal... is man the higher form of animal or is he a mutation or aberration from the animal?

Animals bite for the following reasons..
1.defense
2. Reprimand (either youngster or another adult)
3. To show dominance
4.To obtain dominance
5.Fear
6.Irritation
7.to kill in order to feed.
8.During breeding.
I have yet to see an animal exibit Vampire traits when biting..or at least what we feel to be Vampire traits.

Hmm well pretty much all animals have teeth and this is most likely a natural instinct to do when they get scared or vicious, either that or use claws or any other things they could use to harm other things. I dunno in other words you could be saying that all animal are a Vampire, which doesn't really make sense =S But i'm not dismissing that it is possible, there may be some animals such as bats and possibly cats but not all.

There is nothing unusual with animals biting... It's a sign of aggression and is considered to be a natural reaction. The only species which could be thought of as a vampire is the "vampire bat" simply because it feeds on blood.

Ummmm..You yourself has stated that we have hands to pick up stuff etc etc.....and some uses it to kill.....

Therefore it is a choice......

Animals have teeth for the purpose of hunting and eating....and of course picking up prey and they bite ...well because they have to....to survive,to eat...blah blah....

As simple as that.....Biting never makes one a vampire.....

By the means of the beginning post, no not likely. Can there be vampyres in animal form? Yes there can be. However, this classification isn't merely because they bite. There have been a couple animals that have many vampyric classifications as to what describes a vampyre.

No to the question....animals bite for a number of reasons some of which have been stated above. My animals bite to show affection also, my dog and cat do it all the time especially if I am not paying attention to them.....it's their way of saying hello...love me now!!!

No I don't believe that there are Vampires in animal form. Only scared animals trying to save themselves from something that frightens them.

It really all depends on the purpose of the bite. If the animal in question bites in defense of itself or another member of the pack/herd, then I would say that no, that animal is not a vampiric spirit in animal form. If the bite were simply for the purpose of drinking the blood, like the infamous "Lions of Savvo(Not sure on that spelling)" in Africa were the lions had licked the skin off of some of the victims to drink their blood and left the rest of the corpse untouched. If it was something like that, than yes of course I would say that that animal in question was a vampiric spirit in animal form.

i think its from about the bats and human's teeth so i guess they created "vampire" in long time ago. so I guess its pretty cool but I wish vampire were existed so i could've become a vampire and live too long way to see the new worlds in years and enjoy to being young last forever

Unless sickness is involved (rabies for instance) animals bite for two reasons, fear or hunger. Vampires bite for life and for pleasure.

I velive in the darren shan style vampires, ones who dnt bite unless they are in a fight and need to to protect themselvs. To get their blood they need to cut the person and drink, just so they can live, not to kill.

I guess it's possible. Mostly I would guess vampire bats (since it's in the name) and maybe some of the leeches and things that actually drink blood. Most animals bite because they are animals and they get scared, or mad. They are, after all, animals.

i think if any being shapeshifts it will have to be to a creature similiar in mass to what is already is, the concept that a human sized being can turn into a pat the size of a small pet is ludicris.
