Should you ask before you bite? People have bitten me without asking and I found it very rude, but then again in the beginning I also have bitten people without asking them, my humble apology.
So ask before you bite, yes or no. I am just interested what you all think of this.

I say bite if you have spoken with the person before. If not don't be weird send a simple hello or damn I'd like to bite into u!

umm i get like 20 -30 bites everytime i come on... i dont think its rude to bite without asking... its just a bite.. its what its there for

If i get bit here its cool you say hello if you like em to the friends lidt they go if not all hail the migty block user button if in the street though and some1 wanted to just walk and bite me then its just plain rude

actually this topic is an old one....but a good point...
it is rude to just randomly bite at ppl you don't know.....if i have never even heard you say hi....then why would i want a bite from you?

Personally I don't mind a bite...like Moreish said...it's a form of greeting...what's wrong with that...BUT...excesive bitting does getting annoying...I too have had to block some due to it...If or when I do bite I usually always follow it up with a 'Hello' or some message...some people are shy when it comes to talking to new people...I noticed too that the higher up in levels you are some of the newer people seem to be a little intimadated talking to you...this is a social site...to learn more about Vampires and to meet new people with similar intrests...

So I say bite away..but please do be considerate to my other guests...it is quiet rude not to offer refreshments when company comes calling :^* :^}

i do agree with dami. Biting is quite refreshing until it gets excessive. Please , don't bite repeatedly unless you have browser issues ( like me ) where it sometimes becomes inevitable once the "send" icon is clicked.

I think my record is 67 or so bites from the same person in less than 15 minutes. Heh.

I don't understand why new folks would be intimidated by the resident veterans of the site. There really is nothing special about having high status. All it really means is that someone spends a lot of time on the site. Right? I've had new people address me as "lord," "master," and things like that. It makes me feel umcomfortable. I politely ask them to call me by my nic. (shrug)

When the BITE button first showed up, there was rampant mastication throughout the site. After about a week it calmed down. No biggie. At that time I suggested that biting be reserved for those of unusually high status. But, since then, the BITE has become sort of an ice-breaker. I'm on the fence about BITING used for this fashion. Personally, I'd rather see new folks break the ice by POSTING in the forums. NOT starting threads. I enjoy getting to know people by seeing how they write and what they have to say about stuff.

Anyway, I've typed for about 5 minutes and said practically nothing. So, this is Your LORD and MASTER, Jason (ROFL) fading into the creepy and faintly icky smelling mist.

I do have to agree with the incessive biting. It can be a little peeving. I think biting is a cute way of saying hi. I dont normally bite people Just because I dont want to be a bother. it is the loading my msg box with bites that pisses me off.....I am on dialup... so it takes so damn long to delete all that crap as is....I don't mind a few bites....but not numerous from the same person

And I wouldn't feel bad for blocking someone after asking them several times not to bite like that, and even giving them warning that even though I didn't want to, but that I would if they continued...they continued so I blocked them...I don't feel bad for that...I'd rather block them then send them too a mod...as they have enough to handle...

now if this is the same person that is being blocked by several then yes I'd say give it to a mod and let them handle it...

Being fairly new here (about 2 months ) I thought the bites were someones way of saying hello, allowing you the opportunity to look at their profile to see if you want to then send a bite or message in return..

Most are scared I think to bite me, cause they don't know what I look like! HAHAHHEHEHEHhaw!

But as far as biting goes....
It is a way to say "hello", as long as I have met the "bitee" somewhere, like the forums or when someone rates your profile.

I never bite anyone I don't know, it's like going up to a stranger and french kissing them....you don't know how they will respond, but the odds are it won't be good.

But once "intros" have been done, a bite can be the thing that starts conversations or even relationships.

So be careful when biting someone, kids....you don't know where they have been!

I plan on restricting the ability to bite to levels 3 and higher. This should cut out a lot of the nonsense.

I've been thinking about doing this for a while... I'll probably implement it at the next update.

Personaly I like the whole concep of bite-ing. Ive met lots of ppll thru it. ^_^

We need a new Icon. So that if you get bitten by someone who, you don't want biting you again, say a Hannibal lector mask, icon. You could send in return, so they get the ponit, and you don't get another 'two points' from them...

It depends, see there are alot of biters who are noisy and messy and bite like it's there first time.. i like a nice slow, soft, meaningful bite and i hate waking up to find them dead.. thats just plain rude!

I had someone add me to msn, tell me a couple dozen times to add them to my friends list then bite me about 10 times. A bit too friendly for my liking. O_O;

But other then that I like getting nibbles. ;) Prefer it from people I've talked to but no biggy if you use it as a way to start up a conversation.

I'm shy on the biting. I usually bite back, or bite to say "Hi" when I have talked to the person a cupple of times. But , it has happened once or twice, when a person has in the profile something like "bite me" (not in the quote part), and i did, and the person liked it, took at as a welcome (and it actually was) and thanked me.
I keep saying this...Like all in life, moderation is the key.

It is not rude. For some people, like myself, it is the way to say hello. If I want to start a conversation with someone and don't know how I'll bite them. I don't want the first thing I say to be "Can I bite you" It isn't there for that.

When I first came in here I got a lot of bitting and when I ask wtf is going on they told me that's a way to say "hello" in here! That's why I bit a couple of other people when I "got" my fangs!

Well if someone bites me, I message them and say hope you don't mind a bite back, and do it. Then if they want to have a small conversation we do. Otherwise we don't.
