Okay since I am getting messages why did you do this or that am curious what your own personal rules are for rating?



#1 little or nothing there, nothing but quizzes, or on a portfolio copy right violation ( A BIG NO NO WITH ME)


#2 Put something in but really not much effort in my mind


#3 Put something and a picture


#4 Put something interesting


#5 Decent design + #4
(This is about as high as a portfolio will go for my rating. If I do not know you and what you can do I cannot judge what you have chosen to display. Is it a window to your soul or just an effort to get high ratings?)


#6 something worth reading completely more than once. +#5


#7 Something that is not only worth reading well designed but thought evoking and informative. +#6


#8 Beautifully done an amazing page +#7


#9 Nearly the best page on the rave that I have seen. +#8


#10 Simply the best page I have seen on the rave in all formats. Something I come back and look at every time I come on VR. +#9


- 1 point for a lot of Mary Manson

- 1 point for more than 3 quizzes

- 2 points for bigotry

- 3 points for nothing but other peoples work



+1 for Kitties or animals

+1 or more for things I have not seen anywhere other else.




This was a system I worked out to be fair to everyone. Has nothing to do with personal likes or dislikes of the person. I do not rate the person only what they have chosen to put up.



I have rated friends low and people I do not much care for quite high.


Never have I said here is a ten great job and rated a one. Nor will I give a high rating for something that doesn't fit into these criteria or close to them.......




Please share how you choose to rate.


Do you have a standard set up?

Do you give everyone a 10?

Or alternately do you have a system at all?

The lowest I will usually go is 5...thats if its a one liner - 'I am here to pick people up' jobs...

6 or 7...if the content is mostly quizes, but still has some thought.

8 if its a good piece of insight to the person or if it's quite nice layout, graphics, etc.

9 if its an outstanding piece that combines thought, emotion and good presentation.

10 if its something that makes me stop and consider, that looks amazing or has clearly involved a great deal of time and effort and loving care.

i give everyone i rate a 10

but i do not rate everyone

i only rate those i think are worthy of a 10 in ratings

the lowest i give is a 5 when there is no info whatsoever
6 if there is at least a quote or a sentence
7 brief description
8 detailed description
9 if its got a good lay out as well
10 if im speechless lol

too many quizzes, foul language, confrontation/intimidation gets a downrate

Anyway if you don't have a set standard how can you rate anyone fairly?

After level 12 it isnt more privileges it is more work. The more you do the more you have to do to maintain and to rise. At the point I am at right now I have rated 5091 of 5034.

You can choose to be offended you can share your version. Or what ever you like....

i rate ppl on how good i think their profile is. i also considr my disposition towards that person (and i dont really have a problem with anyone on here)

So CannibalBoy a friend might get a 7 where a stranger would get a 5? That sort of thing?

if I like it they get a "9"
If something catches my eye a "10" and a comment

(and no not just pics catch my eye, their quotes, poems or artwork)

BTW: I rate 5 and lower for offensive material...

I start downrating based on irritation. People who have a lot of stupid quizzes and pictures not of themselves get lower ratings. People who have really bad spelling or grammar I downrate as well. It's not hard to run your writing through a word processor. I'm just looking for substance. I can put a worthwhile comment if the profile says something worth commenting on.

I think this a well thought out idea, however, my own personal ethic tends to rate 10 or not at all (although I gave someone a 5, as low as I will rate, for pro Nazi Sentiments)

Ratings are kinda dumb and If I feel that someone has tried, though their content is not great, they still get a 10.

Point being. Be nice to people and give them a boost. Ratings mean F** All at the end of the day. I was getting bad ratings as soon as I joined. I had not written anything or managed to post a picture and people were rating me!!!!

Not nice... I almost cancelled my profile, though I'm badass and enjoyed having a crack back ;)

too many quizzes are definately a turn off

I like lots of info, but not so much that I get bored.... colour, html, graphics. Interesting things that catch my attention, I'm such a sucker for eye candy.
A few quizzies I can handle, but not when the page is filled with them. All of these things will get you a 9 or 10 from me.

MsLefay how have you rated 5091 of 5034? Anyway on profiles those with less than 1 paragraph or lots of profanity or talk of killing or kicking ass gets a 1 to 4 depending on my current mood, 5 thru 8 is those profiles with something interesting or honest sounding and 9/ 10 for profiles that are nice to look at and interesting enough to read all of it. I realize not everyone has the same abilities so if it appears they put time into it they get extra consideration

Also all p/m get automatic 9/10 since several are petty and will only downrate you and leave angry comments for low ratings. All aren't like this I'm sure but this way I don't have to deal with anymore that are.

MsLeFaye: You are one of the few people who pay attention and actually care about profies in an honest way, yet the majority don't. It took me at least 8 hours to respond to my messages just to say thanks.

After 150 ratings I don't know who has rated me what (being in the UK, Premium Membership, something I always subscribe to, is difficult to come by on VR... no PayPal or Credit Cards on this site, I have to figure a way of mailing some payment to the US which will take time)

Until then I cannot contact people to tell them I have updated.

Besides. I have seen some eyecatching profiles here with great graphics and pictures that say absolutely nothing to me, yet one user talks about how she was abused as a child and had a terrible upbringing. I am not going to rate a graphically pleasing profile over heartfelt honesty like that... no way. Honesty over programming anyday.

Blackacid I saw that profile as well. I rate highly on honesty as well.

danzig1330: That profile upset me... that girl has pure heart and it's all in her words. Not in her pictures. That profile was 100 times better than anything here by a long shot... but I bet some people on here, a good few at that did not even take the time or effort to read it.

That took 'guts' for her to write that and she is by far the coolest person on this site by a long shot just for that fact.

The only thing that brings this site down is the fact that people rate for superficial reasons, images, photo's etc...

Peope think they are clever here, but they cannot be so inteligent when they miss a basic fact. Read between the lines. Read the fucking small print... it's there in black and white.

Every comment I make is based on something in the profile... no "Welcome to the Rave" or SHIT like that... if someone took the effort to talk to you, read the profile. It's so rude not to.

hmm. well pretty much, i rate on effort. if you put a good amount of work into your profile, i'll give you a good rating. if you didnt put anything in there...i'll give you a bad rating.
and generally, even if i dont like your profile, but you put effort into it, you get a good rating....quality, not content....
at least most of the time....i am guilty of giving bad ratings if you mention something to the effect of "i love avril lavigne and she is the genius who invented punk rock"....then i probably will BE BIAS, and give a bad rating....sorry, i'm not perfect, i just cant stand her...

the rating thing, I'm not good at rating people..

What is the point of a rating system if everyone gets rated a 10 just for showing up?

The point of a rating system is to encourage people to improve their profile, thereby improving the overall site.

Myself, i rarely rate above a 6 or a 7 for new profiles because they almost never have anything worth reading in them. But this is because they are new and the person hasn’t had time to improve them yet.

The majority of profiles I rate about a 4. However as profiles age the person will I hope add more to it so when I go back I can up my rating, if nothing changes then they stay at a 4.

A profile that only says that the person is a bad Mo Fo always gets a 1 from me. If you cant bother to write more then 2 lines its not worth rating.

I give them a higher score with the more info, pics, and/or cool little tid bits that they have.

For ever person I welcome I usually give a 6 or higher depending if they have already put a lot of work into it, other than that I just got by how nicely put together it is and all, if I rerate, or rate another member, its usually an 8,9 or 10.

if someone has a really negative personality on their profile or is just completely idiotic than i give them a 1 and visversa if they have a really good quote or pictures that impress kme or make me laugh or think 'damn this person is so like me' than i give them a higher rating ... other wise its a 6 or 7 for me depoending on how much a person has put and are willing to show

I rate every one, but I am blatantly honest about it.

Most of the times, for "one-liners", I give them a 1.

If it is a one-liner, and damned funny, they get a 2.

3-5 is for an adequate profile, but insufficient information.

6-7 is for humor, seriousness, and true interest.

8-9 is for the same as 6-7, but also a journal.

10 is for the above, but also has a portfolio that is immensely interesting to look at.

I really don't have any rules or anything. It just goes by how much is written down, and how much effort was put into it. I rarely rate 10's, and the most common score I give are 5's usually.

I like to read but not too much, and quizzes never help someone out when I rate them.

1 - bleh there's nothing down

2 - there's a couple words to a sentence

3 - More then 2 sentenes

4 - #3 and a pic or two

5 - A paragraph or more something is actually there to be read and # 3

6 - effort was put into it and the read is interesting

7 - #6 and some colors and pics

8 - a nice profile with enough info to enjoyably read and # 7

9 - # 8 and some major work done to it, a background some music or kool graphic

10 - those simple go to the best most enjoyble profile to look at and read...awesome graphics!

I usally come back if you have a new pic and some updates and usally give a higher rateing, but I love rateing its like sticking a rateing on someone and that tells everyone how that person is :)

It really bugs me when people just dish out 10's like candy. Then when someone actually deserves one they give em a one!

Just handing out 10's is senseless...it defeats the purpose of a rating system.

Hmm Well I dont' have a system so much as I look at Content. I mean if they don't have much except Age, Height, and apperance I just give them usually a 4-5, if they put about 3-6 sentences I give them about a 6. If I see nothing but Quizes I normally give them a 3 or 4.

I've given out a few 10's But they Gave a Lot of information, the majority of which was their own, and they just intrigue me. It just depends really on what they say and how they say it. Grammar though is a very big thing. As well I dont like abv. Or single letters in place of words.

Other things that cause me to downrate are those that just have an arrogant tone to their words, as though they have a Superiority Complex or something.

How can there be a tone behind a word this is the internet..?

Simply put, I base my rating on the amount of information, the quality of information, the subject of information, and if it grabs my interest or not...

I would have to completely agree with daire on this one. I really can't stand when I go into some retards profile and notice they have an 8.85 when all they put down is there height, weight, hair and eye color. That doesn't deserve a 10.

I have seen portfolios with ratings of 5-8 that have no pics or anything else. And if the last update date is the start of there membership date you know there never was any.

I think we all have seen such.

Really trying to keep this thread focused on our ways of rating if for no other reason than to show how we do in hopes other will do more than rate 10s for test files.

So please do tell how you rate and even why you rate that way but lets leave the rest for another thread.

i rate what i feel is fair. no more. no less

1-4 are reserved for people I find particularly repugnant.....
5-7 are for new users..as they need time to really work something up...
8-9 is reserved to very good profiles....and that aslso mean intelligent people....someone who can hold their end of a conversation somewhat....
10....truly phenominal work....

I rate depending on how much I like what I see...and 1 word or sentence just doesnt do it for me...I want substance..Give me something I can sink my teeth into....

I am a in betweeny:

you get a:

1 if you put no effort or nothing at all.
2 if you have at least a paragraph or a
picture.
3 if you have at least a paragraph and a
picture.
4 if you are really trying and all you have
are pictures or a bunch of info.
5 if you have sufficent info, the basic get
to know you and a few pictures.
6 if you are taklking from the heart, not
quizzes, and pictures, or a song, or
something personal.
7 if you have all the above and just that
little extra.
8 to me has to be impressive, i mean
colors, music, html, photos, a few
personal details.
9 everything you need for an 8 plus
something that touches me. Your quote
a picture, something majorally persoanl.
anything that makes me go awwww.
10. you have to have everything, i mean html, pictures, songs, lyrics, poems. whatever it may be something that makes me go wow.

But i also do take into consideration: people whom do not know html or how to put a picture up, you know these ones because they tell you, they ask for help.

I also take into consideration, that someone may do nothing on their profile but talk about something traumatic, very personal or whatever it may be, and they may get a ten, over someone who does nothing but html coding. it all depends on the mood i am in for the day, and if i feel like rating.

I do read every profiel i rate. i also go back for rerates. i do not wait for someone to come to me to tell me they did an update, i just pick at random and go.

So see i am an in betweeny, because most days i follow my system, when other days its kindsa based on what i want to see because of my mood.

If someone tells me not to rate, or be patient because they are under construction, i wait. than i go back in a week or two and rate.

I start at 5 and work my way up. If I believe its worth less than 5, I don't rate it at all.

I don't have much of a system, but you'll get better ratings from me if you dont have a ton of quizzes, you're literate, and you have something intelligent, interesting or amusing to say.

If you get a 10 from me you know I like ya :)...but those are rare.

I rate kinda hard, but fair and honestly.

I rate from 1-4 only if there is nothing,nothing but a pic,or it's just full of quizzes.

I rate 5-6:If it has a lot of quizzes but a lil info and a pic.

7-10:If it is informative and woth reading.

I can't judge a profile from backgrounds,music clips etc...cause I don't have a big knowledge of computers myself.

5: #4 + no more than one quiz and a bit more detail about person

7: #6 + journals and detail
8: #7 + amazing time and effort, and the reason they are here
9: #8 + a great attitude

I haven't gotten that evolved in my thinking on ratings but mostly the atmosphere of the whole thing. If all I see is how ticked you are at the world, then I have little respect for you and your work. After all, I didn't do it and I don't expect to be offended because of it.. whatever it is. So the more intelligiently it is done the better, the more you are open to new friends and experiences; without giving yourself away, the better. Open honesty with an effor to be original is good with me. :)

i feel if they r really new i would be nice and rate a 10 to get them started but for the most part i would rate them on how much there profile intreges me unless ur a premium member then its a straight 10 no matter what

Oh yeah and I forgot to say that even the info and pics are a critism for me.

If all I see is:I hate you all and am going to kill you,that would surely be a low rating.

As pics I would give good ratings only if they are decent.

Its hard to rate people , When you dont know if what they are writing is the truth or crap ... I rate them as i see them , Its your own personal freedom in here , It really dont matter to me what im rated as ,I have friends in here , I enjoy the space , and if it makes someones day well hell heres a 10 , Ill give the whole works of ya a 10 , I just got to get to ya all

well I do have more than 3 quizes and I love art so yeah I have some of cool pics.

BUT the most important thing is I wrote A LOT about myself, my talents, hobbies, likes/dislikes and interests. Plus added a few poems that are very deep to me and say more about me and how I feel inside. I don't see how anyone could give me a five. Sure its your choice but I feel it's an insult to all my hard work and devotion to this site and meeting ppl I can relate too. Specially after typing so much about myself and things from my heart.

That is what I rate ppl based on, I dont care if you love quizes or pics/art as long as you say something about yourself and your life and i feel you put effort into it and was truthful.

ive never rated below a 5. i normally just see their average rating and if it sucks, than i give it the number below. really good pros i give 10s

Personally, I go through the profile and read thing here and there. If it all makes sense, it's not a copy/paste of someone else's that I've read, and it shows at least some effort, it merits at least a 6. Depending on the content and the anount of detail and creativity, I rate accordingly. I don't think I've ever given anything less than a 5 though.

hey i give everyone a 10 unless ther is someting racial or rude....then i just don't rate them....i know that there is some that work really hard and deserve more than a 10 but i put the in my comment then....i feel bad not giving someone a 10....lol hey what can i say i am a nice person.....lol but to be honest....i have gave 1's (lol they caught me on a bitchy day..lol) to those i gave a 10 to and they said on mine awsome profile and gave 1....lol that just pisses me off...if you are going to give me a 1 fine..i really don't care about ratings...but atleast have enough guts to admit it instead of making it look like you gave higher......lol that was before i got my Premium Membership and could see......

Hmm...My 1 is given to those which have:

*more quizzes then information they wrote...

*just pictures will get you a three the most

*harm or any type of offence against an animal

*Just songs or pictures from different bands

*stupid quotes like...'fuck you'

MY Tens go to those which write something interesting and show effort along with individuality

I just try to be fair about my ratings unless they have given me a one.

my own rules are simple....

An automatic "10" for anyone who gives me a "10".... even if I've rated them lower before.

For a rating of "9" to "5"..... I will give a honest rating...... and I will always look thru it to rate appropiately.

For a rating of "4" or lower.... I will rate them as low as they rated me.... I've worked hard on my Profile, and I don't think I deserve a low rating.

I always leave a comment, so someone will know I was there. How much I write depends on the original rater's comments on my profile, how god their profile is, and my mood at the time.

I try to be fair, but some people find ways to piss me off.... beware my wrath.

I can't really say I have that sort of system, its a bit more detailed on other things too:

Low Rating

-If someone has nothing in their profile, or just quizzes.

-If the profile is just something nasty, like "f**k with me and I'll kill you" sort of approach.

-If the person has started to argue with me without due cause, has tried to start a fight with me, or I generally think is a really nasty piece of work.

-If someone rates me with a copy and paste AND their profile isn't very impressive.

High rating

-If the profile is worthwhile, with detail and spirit in it.

-If the profile is honest (instead of " I am Satan.")

-If the person is intelligent and god to talk to.


Overall, I base it on a mix of personality and profile... if I think the person is really horrible, then it doesn't matter if their profile loks like the Vatican, it still wont get a good rating off me.

Also, I dont rate whelps 10's unless they really deserve it... I just thin its biased. I hardly EVER rate people a ten.

I also hardly ever rate someone a 10 but to be honest-

If I like what is on the profile, and was engaged enough to read it all- then I rate between 7-9... if it was just ok and did not hold my attention, I rate it the average rounded up that everybody else has rated.

However all of you PM's out there... most of your pages are now crashing my browser... So I can't rate you... nor can I see all the work you've done.

I'm not HTML literate- I break computers, don't know why- but they crash around me all the time. So I also don't really care about the "flash" of a page... I care more about what is shared or revealed about the person.

I have to say both Ms Layfe (Hope I am spelling this correctly from my memory- if not please forgive as I'm horrible with names) and Echo have had some of highest ratings from me...

As far as my rating system goes, I dont really rate on the design of a page unless it is the portfolio section. For the main page I rate on what is written, I dont care about pictures too much nor do I care about quizes, or the layout of the page. I know there are a lot of ppl that dont know much html so why downgrade there page because the layout of there page isnt the greatest and they dont have cool graphics. If a person has something insightful to say then they will get a higher rating if not a lower rating. As far as the portfolios I rate those on a different scale. I dont really care about pictures of your pets, or your friends, I care about pictures of you, and artwork that you have done. If you are posting your artwork I'm even more judgemental and I would hope you guys are the same way. But along with that, if I give someone a low rate based on there art I tell them why I dont I like it or what they can do differently. I would hope you people would give me the same treatment. All in all I dont usually rate lower than a 5 and if I do it's for personal reasons like you rated my profile and said you wished I would die then you get an instant 1.

I think it's normal to have low rating,we can't pretend to have a 10 from everyone.Even I had low ratings and as everyone says:''But why I don't deserve it!Even I worked on it!''

I just accepted it and moved on am not going to ask people why they gave me a low rating,if they don't like my profile,portfolio or personality I leave them to their decision.

A lot of people are too much obssessed about the rating,and bitch about it,just give it a break for your own sake,there are more important things in life then to worry about ratings!!!!

Also sometimes new members have nothing in their pro because they would be still working on their pro but peple hurry to rate them-_-

I'm just about the same way, if there's little or no info and or pics, then its anywhere below 5. Anything interresting, pics/words, etc, anywhere from 5 up.
usually just depends on how creative the profile is.
