If you look into ancient Egyptian mythology there are many different types of gods and goddesses. They all symbolized some sort of process of life or physical property of life like Ra the sun god. Now what if these gods and goddesses were not myths at all but actual entities that ruled over the Egyptian people. (No this isn’t star gate). Which could then possibly connect the family of Anubis to vampirism. It is said that Anubis is the lord of the dead, or in some texts he is the gatekeeper and Osiris is the queen of the dead. Either way Anubis, Isis, and Osiris basically stood for the same thing (death and the Underworld) and they were said to be all related. What if they were actually a family of vampires, and what if they were the first vampires here on this planet. I know this might sound a little like heresy to some vampires, but hey it’s just a what if.
Khayman Edit: Dude... Osiris is a guy.
It would be another interesting theory.
In Egypt there are tombs of gods found,so who can say they didn't existed?
This is true the valley of the dead has numerous tombs, some of who are said to be gods.
if they were vampyres what happened to them? shouldnt they still be alive? if they were dead wouldnt there be a myth about it?
ISIS: Very popular Goddess of Motherhood, Royalty and Family Commitment.
The daughter of GEB and NUT, she went to the ends of the Earth to find the remains of her murdered husband OSIRIS. With cunning ingenuity she managed to reassemble the body for burial, and couldn't resist one last rite which was more fertility than funeral.
In consequence, she became pregnant with glorious HORUS, and had to go into hiding before bad brother SET found out. Luckily her mothering skills paid off and HORUS grew into a SET-beating superhero who became the first ruler of a peaceful united Egypt.
ISIS settled down to enjoy royal life, attending garden parties and state functions in her role as King's Mother. She now has a fetching line in headgear featuring cow horns and sun disc. We've seen this before somewhere. Royal Ascot perhaps.
ISIS was one of the few Egyptian Gods the Greeks took a fancy too, and she even went through to the Romans. There was a temple built to her at Pompeii. The cult became very popular and her consort OSIRIS was probably the foundation of the Roman God SERAPIS.
During the Cleopatra/Anthony affair, Cleo saw herself as the personification of ISIS. With her departure, the Roman Senate did its best to demolish her Egyptian shrines, but you can't keep a good Goddess down. By the time of Julius Caesar the cult was thriving and had its own festivals.
All through this, ISIS shook her sistrum - which she retained despite her classical look statue makeover.
With the Christians she happily became identified as the Virgin Mary. The Armenian liturgy even retained the rattling sistrum sound. Penitents crawling on a symbolic search for Christ were only replacing the earlier devotees on the symbolic search for OSIRIS.

OSIRIS: Mr Big of the Underworld. Not a gangster as such but still in charge of the Dead End scenario.
Married to the beautiful ISIS, he was quite content to rule Vegetation and Fertility until he was knocked off by his evil brother SET, who locked his body in a chest and chucked it into the Nile.
But nothing's ever that simple when it comes to the Gods, and the chest was washed up on the shore, stuck in a giant tree, turned into a pillar and relocated to the palace of King Byblos where ISIS, having searched high and low, eventually found it.
Cursing his luck, wicked SET chopped the body into a zillion pieces and scattered them all over Egypt. So poor ISIS had to search all over again, collecting bits and pieces of her dead husband until she had every last scrap.
Then RA took pity on her and sent THOTH and ANUBIS to help put the jigsaw puzzle back together. Luckily there were no pieces missing. Except one.
Sometimes small details get overlooked, but they can be of prime importance. SET in his savage spite ensured there was one piece missing when ISIS came to reconstruct OSIRIS. He had thrown the Willy Of OSIRIS into the Nile, where it had been swallowed by a fish. But ISIS, summoning all her Godly Reconstruction powers, which were by now formidable, managed to fashion another one. It was made out of gold - and fully functional. (Do not attempt this at home – battery-operated devices will not suffice.)
The reconstructed OSIRIS was mummified for burial; and he looked so fine in his shiny wrappings that ISIS couldn't resist one last fling. As luck would have it, her charms breathed new life into him and she became pregnant with HORUS.
Meanwhile, thanks to his Underworld connections, the resurrected OSIRIS was promoted to Judge of the Dead. Consequently he now has little time for being non-judgmental. See also MAAT.

ANUBIS: Egyptian God of the Dead and Lord of Mummy Wrappings. He's the famous funeral God with the black dog's head. But is he a doberman or a jackal? No-one really knows for sure. ("Down, Anubis down!" No, it must be a jackal.)
He's the primordial son of spooky NEPHTHYS and shining RA, and is far too profound to be the son of Cow Goddess HESA as some sources claim. Death was a serious business to the ancients and ANUBIS ruled over it with grim majesty until OSIRIS took over the job.
Nowadays he takes a back seat in funeral matters, but still likes to be involved in the judging of the dead. He holds the scales of justice steady while your soul is weighed, and if you're light enough he'll lead you to OSIRIS for the top prize of everlasting afterlife.

If you look you can also find a link to lillith. Who they all came from.
Very informative and very humorous post Darkflame. Nice to read. Have to check that web site. Knowledge+sense of humour= perfect combo.
As for this theory, well, it's another theory. Who knows...
Anubis was the ancient Egyptian God of the dead Anubis was said to be the guardian to the underworld
I'm on my way to check out http://www.godchecker.com ~before~ I voice an opinion... It never hurts to do research!
All godchecker basically said is that Anubis is the god of the dead... Not enough info for me to base an opinion on...
All I know of ANubis is that he gaurded, guided, the spirits of the dead, he was the left hand (or is it right?) of osiris, he also was the god of Prayer for the dead..... I have never heard of him in link to vampires. I have heard of "disciples" that were supposedly but I really do not know enough to base an opinion on a unknown, myth/legend.
I doubt he was. Good luck trying to prove it. One would think if there was any remote possibility of Anubis being a vampire we would have heard stories of it long ago.
Everybody knows that Anubis and the Egyptian gods are aliens. Hasn't ANYone see Stargate SG1?
If it's on TV, it must be true.
My real point to this thread is to see what kind of imagination's it would stir up. There is no real answer to it, because no one knows for sure what really was back then. It's merely a what if?
it would be yet another great myth about how we came to be.
If you look into ancient Egyptian mythology there are many different types of gods and goddesses. They all symbolized some sort of process of life or physical property of life like Ra the sun god. Now what if these gods and goddesses were not myths at all but actual entities that ruled over the Egyptian people.
But real vampires, the first ?
Interesting possibility.
That may mean they are not from planet Earth.
the egyptian culture greatly fascinates me and i believe that the gods did exist
im learning about Egypt in schoool but wow very insterinsting
I'm a 10+ year student of the Ancient Egyptian culture. I probably know more mindless, dumb facts about that country's ancient times than I should. So if you don't mind, I'll share a little...
It does not escape me where one could make a connection between the ancient religion of the Egyptians and modern day vampires... However, this comparison, if really studied, would burn and turn to ashes in the light of the sun like so many revenats who have bit the dust at the stake of Buffy or VanHellsing.
To give you a clue, the so-called "Book of the Dead" and all the connotations that come with that title, is nothing of the sort. Scholars call it the "Book of the Dead" because it was interred with the dead, but the contents were geared for helping the dead navigate their way through the perils of the many gates they'd have to pass through in the Underworld, just to reach the "afterlife" and be re-born (if you will) in it; which is a world rulled by the "SUN." A happy an sunshine-filled place, not very 'healthy' for Vamps.
In fact, the actual title of the Egyptian Book of the Dead (in Egyptian) is the "Book of Coming Forth INTO the LIGHT." That is what the true name of the collection of spells translates to from ancient Egyptian into English. Again, not good for vamps. Still, the temptation to use their religion as a springboard for the vampire culture's cohetion is a great one, and I for one would not discourage it. I think it could be lots of fun to play with their themes and see what fits us. Yes?
Imagine that!
I do belive in Anubis, I have to say. There are many theorys out there. This is just on I support.
very good theory but what if they weren't really vampires but of a pack of human like bat hounds who were just wanting souls now theres a hard question for myself to even ask to myself and aswer with the correct answer
It is possible, but I think only in the way that they were vampires, I highly doubt they were uncanny. In much the same way people believe Jesus walked the earth but was not the son of God, perhaps just a prophet or man with a pretentious nature. In both cases it's been believed and contradicted for thousands of years.
Interesting Theory, pity we'll never know for sure. But i like to keep an open mind on these kinda subjects...
wow thats a good point, because all the legends about vampires are about them being underground...interesting never thought of it that way!
well my friend is a decentent of anubis and a only dather of anubis no lie she is in hiding bacause her vilage in the remoat part of egpit was destored by a sand storm
sorry for the speeling
Well I have looked into the history of Egypt for a little bit...Even though I am an Atheist, I tell people that if I was not Atheist I would be polytheistic (believe in gods and godesses), so I would say that I believe that your subject does make sense, I've never actually thought of Anubis as being a Vampire, but there is not yet proof that he wasn't or isn't, lol....
its kinda instrusting how a lot of religions have a book of some kind
Wouldn't it be funny if what most considered a god back then was a vampire. Hell in those days if you lived past 40 you were an ancient person.
ONE: please do some research on the topic before you disrespect someone belief or religion.
Two: Isis DID NOT stand for death nor the underworld...
im discusted that you would so blatenly disrespect a thread by posting without research.
Religions are so confusing.
They're all so complex.
I don't know what to believe anymore.
Every one has different beliefs and it's confuzzlng me... But I was very interested in reading all of these posts to give me a better look upon this... Thank you for opening this thread. =)
One: Are you kidding. Your going to come onto my thread and thrash me like that. That is just not right.
Each one of us is entitled to have our own opinions and theories, so says the 2nd rule on diversity in the Black Veil.
"Among us, there are many different practices and many different points of view. No single one of us has all the answrs to who or what we are. RESPECT each person's individual choices and beleifs. Learn about them and share what you know. Our diversity is our strength, and we should not allow misunderstanding to weaken our community. Find the path that is right for you and uphold this freedom for others"
Even if you don't follow these ethics, the words should speak for themselves.
Two: This is a excerpt from a source that I did some RESEARCH on.
"In another area of Egypt, when the pantheon was formalised, Isis became one of the Ennead of Heliopolis, as a daughter of Nuit and Geb, and sister to Osiris, Nephthys, and Set. As a funerary deity, she was associated with Osiris, god of the underworld (Aaru), and thus was considered his wife, whereas Nepthys was the wife of Set. Isis and Nephthys were often depicted on coffins, with wings outstretched, as protectors against evil."
So shove it where darkness is prevelent.
Yes I did mix up Osiris and Isis, but as the saying goes no one is perfect even vampires.
No I am not a master in egyptian mythology, can't say I know many that are. Except, for darkflame, crazy wolf, and Meritet. Thankyou by the way for your posts, they were very informative.
you have a good point but it is true to above... would they not still be here..especially if they are vampires? fuck they would be powerful....!
this is an open thread, thus opinions are able to be given. rule of threads is that if your going to present info, do research on this or state weither or not its an opinion.
and make sure you read more into the goddess herself then you would know that she does not represent the undworld..
and i cant stick it where darkness preveils because i would like it too much. Now maybe i was a lilttle harsh, but your topic should be prevalient with what your asking, not going off tangent and implying other facets.
"She was the daughter of Nut and Geb, the sister to Osiris, Set, and Nephthys, and the mother of Horus. In earlier times she was not only the wife to Osiris, but his female counterpart, equal in all ways and powers. In the Legend of Osiris it is she who travels the world to find all the pieces of his body and it is she who brings him back to life with the aid of Thoth. But that is not the only time she is associated with Thoth. Together they taught man the secrets of magic, medicine, and agriculture. Her power is spoken of much in the ancient stories, and she may have been even more powerful than Ra and Osiris. She did after all trick Ra's secret name out of him to gain his power. Yet she is never shown as selfish or cruel, except to those who would harm those she loves. Power and compassion, crafty but merciful, Isis represents all the qualities of women"
I was harsh in my defense, I am sorry. You are entitled to your opinion, as the black veil states, thus so am I. I welcome the feedback and the debate.
and i am sorry that i was harsh when replying..some things tend to get my dander up and make me forget to be civil about other peoples thoughts..
If the gods were in fact vampires then who's to say your theory is wrong? Anubis was a great ruler and though sometimes viewed as an evil entitiy in some he was a great thinker and scholar. He very well could be the first vampire and perhaps when the egyptians were overthrown merely went into hiding so that his secret could not be revealed.
there are so many theories and supositions...we will never know the truth ...only if they really existed and they decide to come out...but i doubt it'll happen
My thoughts exactly “perhaps when the Egyptians were overthrown merely went into hiding so that his secret could not be revealed”.
I also believe that one day we will know the truth, and he will return in one form or another.
anubis was a pretty kool guy body of a human head of a jackel not someone i would want to meet in a dark ally but hey
Anubis is the Guardian to the after life, it was Sekment who was said to be the Egyptian version of Vampire. If you want to look into it, I posted that topic in the forums here. Just go to the Key Word Box in the forums section and Type in "Egytian Vampire" or something in regards to that, and I bet you will find my post.
- Sin
anubis was the weigher of hearts, be it if your heart was heavy or light as the feather it was weighed against. A heavy heart usually is caused by a wasted life so many heavy hearts now adays.
but to continue on to possible egyptian tie and vampires.
Marduk and innana
to give some good backround
some say Marduk was the son of enki
(he whom I follow)
Innana some say was daughter of Enlil (enki's brother) the problem was when living upon the earth some say their lives ..the ones of the fallen ones..were shortened quite a bit.
In tale and in articles by karen danrich it is said that
Merduk and Innana extended their physical lives to 18,000 years in a time when 2,000 was normal.
(2) The life extension practices caused them to go insane.
(3) They warred on each other for 1,000 years.
The important thing to vampires is this part
They extended their life span by eating the organs and drinking the blood of the high priests and priestesses of the red race the seeded guardians of earth.
or first shaman, if we are to keep it simple.
in karen's article it is stated as thus:
Both Innana and Merduk didn't mind eating the organs of people, and drinking the blood of High priests/priestesses.
So if Innana and Marduk did then perhaps anubis and the dark three
Osiris, anubis and set
did as well. some interesting notes in this article link provided:
http://home.tiscali.nl/~gibbon/merduk-innana.htm
I myself have thought much of the same thing, though there are a few differences.
sorry if this is a bit out of the subject but, can anyone of you give me a good site about greek mythology or greek gods pls? i would be very grateful..tnx
interesting theory...i think i'm gonna go do some research.
Interesting try but:
1. As Khayman said, Osirus is a guy(lord of the underworld/moon god)
2. Isis is not a goddess of the underworld(Goddess of motherhood and fertility)
3. Vampires are not the undead(I have never known a true vampire who is dead, and we don't live for millions of years either)
You did make a good attempt, though... I do have to give you credit for atleast trying to explain how we came to be... You could have a point with the whole "vampires relating to Anubis or Osirus" thing... A nothing little fact, Osirus and Anubis did not rule at the same time... Any god or Goddess that shares the same title as another either came before or after the other... I'm done now... Enjoy!...
*~Gylanah~*
The Rose...
If those three may be related then in one way shape or form, they have to be related to Lillith. because Lillith is the creator of all, but at the same time it is also out destruction.
nice thread and if u look in my profile and journal i have some stuff on there u might like to read and i like many others belive that the god and goddess of old are real just might still be around today but i hope what i have helps more with this subject
Thank you Darkflame for clairifying about Isis, As she is My patron Goddess, it was a bit upsetting seeing her portrayed as the keeper of the dead.. Blessings Sister

OK that is classic.
Now as far as there being tombs for the gods, at the time the Pharaoh’s were considered to be "gods".
Interesting thread. I am going to have to do some more reading on this one later tonight.

Very interesting, I am going to read more on this subject . I love Egyptian mythology. Very cool topic.
I think that all together this would be a very intresting theroy..I don't know how very possible it could be..but it's neat.
truly awesome must read more no you've peaked my curiosity lol
Many myth and many legends get warped over time. Some may want to believe the story of them being aliens. Some may believe them vampyr. The only thing we know that most vampyr of that time were said to hide and only the bragerts came forward to show faces and cause more trouble for our ancestors. I would really like to believe you stumbled onto something, but for all we know, it may just be another guess at our past
very well point made and taken as well we shall truly never know if these things are myth fact or just what we want them to be..
is anyone else seeing the one point that struck me FIRST (all the way at the top/begining/etc)
How many cultures, period, do you find TOMBS for dead GODS...I mean, come on...temples, yeah...other kids of ceremonila place, yeah....but a TOMB??? There HAS to be a significance to that....
Interesting thoughts here, but has anyone ever wondered about the chance the animal headed gods might have been werecreatures?
That's the best point I've heard yet. Werecreatures, maybe that is so
That is a really good theory.
Anubis was diptced with a jackel for a head.
In concern with Lilith, I did a little research into it. The character is actually spawned from Rabbanical Sumero-Babylonian myth, and is allegedly Adams First wife before eve. Lilith is known to have faunicated with lucifer and in some religions actually be his wife. What links her to vampireism is when she drinks the blood of abel (as in cain and abel from the old testament) and has her red sea which gave birth to all things but needed periodical replaishment (presumably from blood). This is another variation of Kali Ma's ocean of blood (the hindu mother godess of destruction).
If you want to find out a little more about Lilith (feasibly one of the first vampires if you go by her drinking blood) then check out www.pantheon.org/articles/l/lilith.html
Excellent thread. I am sadly lacking in knowledge about these periods and players. Running off to the university to do some other work, gonna bring a lucnh and do some research too. Love it when a thead tickles my curiosity.
~Lady~
Minsk,
There is a thread open on Lilith and Cain. You should check it out.
As far as my opinion goes, I think living vampires are really mutants. The dead ones, well, maybe they are legends, maybe they are real. Never met one so who knows. Evolution, it is a wonderful thing. So is natural selection.
This thread was very informative and I thank everyone for giving what they know.
I am a Athiest and one of my beliefs is that If there were so many god and goddesses before Christ. Where did they go? So how can I follow Christ when he states he is the one and only when thier is proof that their were other gods and goddesses out there.
Just one reason on why i do not follow Christ.
I will look for the books mentioned so i can inform myself further. Thank you.
Basically, myths are created off of some real person, event, or experience, but it gets amplified and changed throughout time. There is plausible cause to believe that Anubis, Isis, and Osiris were the first vampires, but maybe they were revered too highly by the Egyptians to let that secret be spread.
lol well then i guess the cats were all vampires...lol anubis might have been the god of the underworld but he wasnt no vampire if he was then the greek god hades was so is satan and the grim reaper aka the soul gatherer cats as well i mean wernt they the guardians???
There has been alot of research the question who was the first. if research is done I beleieve we foudn that Julius Iscariat was among the first believed to be one.
Judas Iscariot
Judas betrayed Christ to the Romans for 30 pieces of silver and for doing this; he and his family were cursed. When Judas tried to give this back, it was refused and Judas cast it away before committing suicide.
If this holds true, you can see why vampires hate the crucifix and its meaning. Judas died with a guilty heart. Also in most European countries folklore and myth, it states that vampires can be created by people committing suicide or being excommunicated from the church.
Lastly, Judas was said to have red hair. Again in most European folklore and myth, red hair is the mark of a vampire.
just wanted to add this here it is all heresay who was the first. some cay cain, And some may say the god Anubis. There are many theories but the one I have found for the most part in vampire research backed up the idea that Judas was the first. Heck some even have tried to say Jesus Christ was the first. Who knows we all can speculate on our ideas.
well to me i dont think there wasa first i believe there were many because ofd all the covans out there wouldnt you think that if therewas a first there would only be one? i know that over time there would be more but if you think about it eveyone has a different opinion as in lillith dracula cain and amducious imean come on there was probably more than one or elseno one could be born one am i right cause have you ever heard of a vampiric child being born from a vampiric family?as in dracula did he have a kid? nina his supposid wife killed herself but back in that day if you killed yourself you would be cursed with the undead well where is she?
sorry about all the misspelling and stuff this is a an old key board and im kinda bad at spelling anyway its hard to space cause the spacebar dont work very well
my knowledge of Egyptian systems is sadly limited, so I don't know much...but I WOULD like to learn more!!!
my knowledge on egypt is limited...and although i do believe in anubis, I'm not so sure about him being connected to vamps ....but it is I good therory...one in which I will surely investigate.
i think the things that arnt know are that way for a reason if we knew everything there is to know what would be the fun of trying to guess or decipher what we thought or our opinions??i mean no no knows for sure about the whole egyptian culture back in the day when pharohs ruled what if there was something more powerful and more intelligent if it was then what happened it all disapeared ya the pryamids are still standing and how did they make them i heard from the discovery chasnnel they dont know how they got those stones they wernt even from there if they were that smart to do that then how come they didnt survive but to me i belkieve what is mean to stay hidden should stay that way hyrogliphics arnt always read right if they were how were people able to read them with out knowing what they truly mean the people in egypt nowdays dont write like that it has been lost for years so what if every thing we know about ancient egypt is wrong????
Good post corpus, most of history is just speculation. The only ones who know what really happen in the ages before, are the ones who were there, and are most likely ones who are not here today. .
Thank you.. And this is For Scion of REquiem just wanted to add soemthing to what he mentioned with reguards to Sekhmet. She is mostly known for reproduction and child birth. She is the one alot of pagans turn to when they are seeking a child and are having fertility difficulties
Actually (as an obsessive Egyptian fanatic) this actually sounds reasonable to me...This is a great thread and It makes perfect sense to me!
Thank you all for participating in a most interesting discussion on the topic at hand. Many of you have had some very intriguing comments, but now i think it's time to bring this one to a end.
Thanks again, Vlad
