Okay, I know I'm going out on a limb here, but what happens when I vampire has claustraphobia? I mean I know it sounds silly, but I hate small enclosed places, I want to be cremated when (and if) I die, so where does that leave me with the whole hiding in a coffin routine?
well, not all vampyres sleep in coffins and nobody says you have to.
and i dont think you really mind being in a coffin when you are dead ;)
I just ca'nt get over the whole tiny space with no room thing-hence the cremation...but I know we've gone the vegan vampire thing, I was just wondering if anyone else had a thing for small places the way I did..
My bf has a bad case of it. He can't even get on an elevator with out wigging out. As for the vampire that I am sorry I cannot say I am not nor is he a vampire. But I do have one ? Cremation is even a smaller container that does not bother you?
If it were required I would just get myself a nice large mausoleum.
I think in a mausoleum you could be fine, or in an underground house? Well... if you read Anne Rice in Intervew with the Vampire, Louis saed thet in first time he feel like something going to happpend, when he were in a coffin even more... with someone else (Lestat) but when he get in there were just human fears, and when he became a Vampire everything desaper
like some of the other ppl said a big place to put the ashes with a little window mabye i dn
Actually i used to suffer from claustrophobia, however, ever since sleeping in a coffin ive learned to fight and control it. Thank the devil for coffins
Since not all vampires sleep in a coffin it doesn't have to be a big deal. But I also agree with OniKage. The best way to get rid of your claustrophobia is to face it.
as far as cremation is concerned, some one is going to have to love me enough to scatter me out to sea-which is what I would like....and the really big crypt thing is a plus....as far as a really big coffin, if I ever get the bed and breakfast for goths up and running, I fully intend to have KING size coffins in every room...LMAO
Don't worry, you aren't alone. lol. I don't like enclosed spaces either.... Feels like I'm about to be crushed or something. '~'
ok here's what you do, buy a coffin, then take each side off, and nail it to each wall of your room correspoding to the coffin
Im extremely claustrophobic, but Ive found a way to get past the whole sleeping in a coffin thing. For my birthday my mom bought me one and I replaced my bed with it, I slept in it with the top open, ever since then I havent been as bad as I was.
I'm also claustrophobic and I agree that the best way to get over it is via facing the fear.
I think you should just sleep where ever you feel must comfortable. Don't worry 'bout myths and legends.
Get a huge coffin with a peep hole on teop, or dont sleep in a coffin
Interesting topic....
I'm really not sure how many claustrophobic vampires there are, but I've seen indications of a few in profiles, so I know you aren't alone!
As for the cremation thing, that's a very personal choice. My dad's wishes were to be strewn over a specific bit of land in Florida, but by the time he died it had been developed... turned into like a 8 lane highway! He's... in my sister's closet right now, with our brother! (Yes, he was cremated, also. Legalities won't permit his ashes to be strewn where he'd be happiest...) And when I die, I say, "Cremate me and plant a lilac or rose bush on me!"
Once you are dead (when not if) your consciousness will cease. You won't know if you are cremated or not and certainly will no longer be claustrophobic. While you are alive I would think sleeping in a bed would be much more comfrontable than a coffin. Who wants to lay in a wooden box?
im unsure as to your solution....... you have been given much good sujestions here..................smile but the b and b sound ok .........you'll have to tell me some time...........smile if worst comes that way .........i'll do your ashes............smile
you guys have been a big help-it was more for fun that I actually asked as opposed to seriously, but claustrophobia is a serious problem of mine, although not as bad as some-but again, I appreciate everybody's participation
so am I honey-I always wondered about certain contradictions within the myth as far as someone who has turned, do you keep the same fears, phobias, whatever? Hence my question-yes, if you die all that goes away, but what about undead? does the same thought apply? I always assumed it was just a matter of keeping to the dark and someplace safe, so obviously it doestn' have to be a coffin- and I suppose the coffin itself can be any size...
not all vampires rest in coffins
its possible for a vampire to have
Claustrophobia
If you don't want to try to overcome your claustraphobia, ignore the myths and enjoy your bed.
I guess you're S.O.L... or you could always reign in a dark house... ???
I have actually never thought about it. I love tight places, it is the large places that I hate with all those people buzzing about. Anyway, try having a coffin with one to two inch slots on both sides. Put a wedge in the lid to keep it from closing all the way. That worked for Tommy when he had problems.
I understand where you are coming from about the tight space thing. Easily fixed.
This is what I have nearly ALWAYS have done. Dress your bedroom in the deepest most sumptuous colors you wish, go over the top if you wish. Soft handkerchiefs over lamps to severely dim the light, red light bulbs, heavily draped curtains, matching the sumptuous bedding of course.
Just because we need our rest doesn't mean we are sequestered to a pine box. Remember from Lost Boys "That's what this place IS! One giant coffin."
Plus for good measure when I die I'm going to have my body turned into a diamond and set into a gothic setting necklace, maybe a dragon wrapped around it or inside a coffin "ironic isn't it?" and I will be with my beloved always. And who ever inherits 'me' will come to know what it is to be 'permanantly affixed' to a piece of jewelry.
Just my two cents. A great topic!
I know the feeling. I can barely ride in a car without rolling down the window to let air circulate. But you don't have to be in a coffin. Just darken your resting place so that light doesn't come in.
And once you do die, if you are creamated it is not going to be an issue anyway. Unless you think about the small urn your ashes will be in. But once you are gone, you are not going to care.
I myself have a tendency to be claustrophobic at times. However if you find that you cannot sleep in a coffin then simply don't. Find yourself a nice dark spot in a mousilium or make your bedroom as dark and comfortable as possible and you'll be fine. Belive me...I've been doing it for centuries. It really helps when you live in a society that would sooner stab you in the chest before saying hello if they knew what you really were.
I'm claustrophobic so I'd just have to have a HUGE coffin.
Actually Im Claustrophobic to but when I sleep in my coffin I have no problems.. elevators I'll freak out in crawling under the house freaks me out and the thought of being barried alive BRRR dont get me started ...
So dont feel left out Im Claustrophobic to
Is this a joke? Where a Vampire shall rest if he has claustrophobia? I am hardly amused.
there are lots pf people who are claustrophobic and we just figure out what works for us.
i to be honest can understand your reasoning behind this.
((sorry hit enter befor ei was done. But anyway, I can see why you would want to be cremated but i think that it really is just a state of mind, I am not sure how badly your cluastrophobia is but i can sympothize on a level as per why you do not, I have a few friends with the same problem. But they figure they can be put in a coffin seeing as they will be dead & will not care lol... anywho, good luck with that
Yeah, I would say that if one is confined to a coffin, or other small space then claustrophobia might be an issue
lol maby a large coffin? or alternatly get cremated as you said lol not all vampires sleep in coffins that is just myth
they make glass coffins..... so ud never kno u were in one
I suffer from claustraphobia too. Thats why I am having my coffin custom made to be really really really big! and made out of a strong glass. I'm not being put under ground though. I am going to be put in one of those wall tombs. And if I can't have that, then I am turning myself into ashes and I am going to be spead over the sky.
Sorry to hear. Good luck with the cremation. See you on the other side.
:)) really funny
i have claustrophobia too but i think that when u become a vampire u'll be ok :)
a vampire with clautrophobia...hmmm that would be quiet interesting honestly...kinda odd at the same time. I'm people claustrophobic. I think you shall be okay with all of it though, just get a big big big coffin hehe
why confine to a coffin it is only a symbol or morbid reality not needed in the actual life so why follow in the routine break free from such thoughts
As far as I'm concerned, I have no sence of claustrophobia. I may be a person with large stature, but I don't mind fitting in tight places. I actually enjoy fitting in tight spaces. ... *looks to attractive goth gurl and winks at her*
The opposite is neither the case. I enjoy spaciousness. ...
Of course,... none of you are necessarily me. So... just.... sleep out of the coffin. No strings attached.
wow thats is a difficult subject because i am claustrophobic too and i also want to be cremated when I go to the other world but i guess they would have to build an underground chamber and sleep there!!
never really had the fear...i feel more secure in small places actually...but its prolly due to the fact that i use to hide alot as a child
well claustrophobia is generally more an unconcious fear of suffocation than the actual closed space with no movement... so i suppose if you should be so lucky and hit on the [millions, billions and zillions to infinity] to 1 chance of actually being turned into an immortal vampire... well once you get used to your immortality and the fact that suffocation won't kill you you'd probably find that coffin quite accomodating also considering that the sun hitting any part of your body would probably be a bigger fear anyway... plus as others said it doesn't have to be a coffin anyway who the hell would want to live forever if you can't even chose where to sleep?
Just get a huge coffin, and spray it with some purfume.
i am not entirly sure, i also have claustrophobia too yay go us
Everything and everyone dies. Death is a natural part of life. so no reason to be feathered with claustraphobia afterwards.
well... i think that coffins are more of a "movie thing"... than reality
hmm..I've heard of this before...but I don't know what to tell ya.
Well I doubt that once you are dead, vampire or not, you would really care much about where or how your body was enclosed...coffin, shadow grave, large crypt or cremation urn.
While alive though that's a whole other matter. I don't sleep in a coffin. Never have in fact to tell the truth. I am far too attached to my nice big bed to give it up for something as restricting as a coffin lol.
As for claustrophobia, well I have it to a point. As I was saying to someone earlier today, I can be in the tiniest space imaginable and be just fine so long as I know that I can get out of it any time I wish. However, stick me in any space, large or small and let me know that it is locked or otherwise enclosed and I can't just step out of it whenever I feel the urge and I will completly loose it.
Ever see a grown woman try to claw, hack or chew her way through a solid wall? It's a pretty funny and yet disturbing site believe me.
Which is probably why I was always so careful never to break any laws and end up in jail. Being confined would kill me. Or at least send me over the edge into insanity.
*looks at Dead Prince's post*
You know you not only being rude and childish with those posts, but you are disrupting what are otherwise interesting threads.
Please tone down the comments. They are rude and uncalled for. Not to mention vulgar.
I have actually over come claustrophobia not for sleeping in a coffin purpose but just cuz i hate fears lol anyway ...
The way I did this was by takeing cardboard and puting around my bed at first it was very hard then I more and more got use to it so I would move the cardboard closer and closer.Untill eventually I just didnt have the fear anymore :)
I'm with Elyria on this one, long as I know I can get out at any time I'm good.
Sometimes when I'm wearing a heavy sweater (especially the hooded sweatshirts), tight shoes or something around my neck, like a turtle neck, even a loose one, I just reach a point where enough is enough and the damn thing has to come off.
Other times I like it, I don't know, I spose I'm strange like that.
okay, vampire or not....being freaked out by tiny spaces seems very ordinary....most people that face thier fears are joined by many others to help them. Either way....you dont have to ever be in a coffin if it bothers you...no one can make you do anything you want...and when you're dead...what the fuck's the problem? you're DEAD! out of this hell...as some of us never will be....
well ok you can do one of two things:
1) try to get get over your problem a little at a time
2) forget about the coffin and sleep in a nice bed, but do not forget to black out all the windows or you will be in trouble the first light of day
i agree that a mausoleum would be the best way to go, something large enough to deal with your fear.
I don't know, a mausoleum, is iffy, some vampires can't stand the smell of those who are dead dead and not undead lol
If a vampire was claustrophobic it would suck to be it.
That would be very odd, that's kind of asking what if a fish doesn't like water.... but not reallly
I used to be scared of small spaces but like u just gotta think whats there to be scared of?
enjoy small spaces its where all the fun happens :)
I don't think that coffins should really play a part.... claustrophobia would suck to have, but I think it's a bit tacky for people to believe in coffins protecting them and whatnot.
But after death, I'd prefer to be cremated, because I don't want to be skull fucked by maggots, and I adore fire. As a few have said, your dead body wouldn't mind being in a coffin....
I myself have never encountered a vampire with claustrophobia, but I expect they would just sleep in a bed in a room with no windows
well wow that is out there and the thing about cremated i dont want to be cremated cuz like i feel like if i am cremated i have no chance as comin back as a vampire
pull a coneheads moment put your bed against the wall cut your body figure out and sleep standing up some what lol
I personally like the King Sized Coffin idea. That sounds like something I have been trying to work on, a coffin built for two.
screw the myth, you dont need a coffin....just find a dark corner of your room
ROFLMAO @ Raz....well, that was certainly the most unique suggestion- I guess it all depends on what you are the most comfortable with- I can't stand wearing clothes that are tight around my throat or wrists...and mausoleums, and vaults have always fascinated me- I just hope when the time comes whoever is with me honors my wishes to be cremated and scattered over someplace-thank you to everyone who took this thread seriously, and for the ones who were just being insulting-small minds...
I feel for you I also suffer from Claustrophobia But I find that my bed surrounded by thick dark curtains works just as well without the feeling of being closed in aand trapped.
i know how you feel i have a horrible case of it and i find it hard to stay in any small space for to long without crying...so i say stay away from coffins and stick with a nice big spacious box.
